Another visit to Fort Myers, thus another visit to the Athenian! It's a short walk from my grand-rents place, so we always stop by when I'm in town.

Now, normally, I order some kind of main which is accompanied by the largest glass of beverage you've ever seen, a breadbasket, some kind of soup, and also a dessert. It's just way too much food and we end up taking home huge portions. However, this time I chose the gyro sandwich with a side of fries and I was able to finish it all. And it didn't disappoint.

Kudos to our waitress Aleda who prevented me from ordering a gyro plate, which I never would have been able to finish. You're not getting authentic gyro meat cut off the spit here - you're getting something akin to the steak ummm's of the past (PM me if you remember what these are!) stuffed into a fluffy pita with a side of tzaziki sauce. Luckily for me, that doesn't bother me, but I know it would bother some folks who were looking for the "authentic" Greek experience. (If you want that, please go to Greece. They could use your money right now.)

Like I said before, this place is really geared toward the senior crowd and it's reflected in the menu and their daily specials. Get over it. You'll most likely find *something* that you can eat, just wade through the menu.

Next time I'm in town - I'm all over the stuffed grape leaves, Greek salad and sampler plate. Next time, Athenian, next time.

The menu is geared toward senior citizens and has very limited greek options.  This is the least authentic greek food I have ever had and I was disappointed with my dinner.  The greek salad was okay, but we found very little that was redeeming in the entrees.  The employees were very nice and polite and service was quick.  If you are looking for a "greek" experience specifically, look somewhere else.

If you are in Ft Myers and are looking for Greek food, try this place.  It has several selections, maybe too many, but my favorite is the Gyro Salad.  I would place it in the top 3 in Ft Myers.

We have no choice but to settled here for lunch because nothing else open on Christmas day.
I wanted to share a set lunch, but was told there is split charge. It is fine then. a moment later, we were told that we can't share. so I ordered a kid's meal.

    Not a friendly restaurant.
    one and oneth third star.

I hate to tell everyone this, but if you were anywhere in the northeast, this would be a DINER, folks. And not a very good one, either. The portions were generous, but my wife's French fries were soggy and inedible. My baked potato was fine; the dressing on the Greek salad was from a bottle, and the blackened grouper was broiled grouper with a ton of salt spilled on it. To say it's a Greek restaurant is a joke.

That being said, the place caters to an older crowd and the staff was courteous and attentive.

Ok this is as close to Greece as I can get and the food is Autentic. I had the large Greek Salad with Chicken Aka Chicken Kabob Salad then I had an Open Faced Grilled Chicken Samdwich. Bravo Athenian. Will be seeing you soon. Happy eating
