I got a chance to try the Auburn James Tasting room today. Â The Chardonnay was my favorite. Â I got to chat with the sommelier, and learn about the history of how Auburn James came to be, and hear all about their recent blind tasting WIN taking home 1st place. Â Great wine, and great service! Â 5-stars!
Review Source:The wine here is delicious, the atmosphere is cozy and warm with Napa Style written all over it and gorgeous hardwood everywhere, and beautiful art to top off the visual. Â The taste buds next... the wine is absolutely delicious.. we've had every tasting, but my favorite is the Block #2 Cab. Â We've also had many of the tapas here, I love the sliders by day and the spicy ahi tuna dish by night! Â They have amazing cheeses too! Â Sounds: they've had great live music when we've been there, not too loud and lively enough to keep it fun. Â They have great nightly deals and their flights are generous! Â You've got to try it, and their email list is great to be on too.... keeps you informed of town events as well without being bombarded.
Review Source:We had a deal to have a wine tasting and a cheese plate. Â The wines were delicious (we even bought a dessert wine there) and the cheeses were great. Â My favorite was the truffle scented honey with blue cheese! Â But the other cheeses were excellent too. I think my husband liked the triple cream best. Â The service was great, and the ambiance is very pleasant. Â They have lots of cool gourmet salts and spices and other foodie treats for sale.
Review Source:A nice place to hang out and catch up on some convo with friends. They have snacks to go with the wines, which is nice, but they weren't awesome. I ordered two bruschettas, waited a fairly long time for one of them, and then when it was served, it was mushy! The wines were fine, and the experience was a good value. I'd go back, simply because I love a place where you can really hang out and relax with a flight. The service was friendly without being overbearing.
Review Source:It's a great place to start a date. It's expensive but the wines are pretty good, and the pear and goat cheese appetizer is worth the price of admission.
The Cab was good, but as I said, the wine is very expensive. I would love to be able to afford to make this place a regular stop, but with an infamous wine bar across the street it'll be tough to justify.
Stars are for: good looking tasting room, good appetizers, wine was fine.
Negatives: pours are too small and expensive. When a place is only pouring one winery's wine, they should be definitely more generous for the price. Same goes for appetizers.
"Just OK" service. Server was nice but she wasn't on her game in making sure glasses weren't empty. I'd rather make the drive to Napa.
I drive by the tasting room almost every time I visit Danville and have always been curious about the tasting room. Â My husband and I decided to check it out and overall we are fans and will probably go back to visit soon! Â We had two flights and a three cheese platter. Â The first fight was the Rhone flight, which I do not recommend. Â The second was the Bordeaux, which was great! Â The Cab Franc and Meritage were our favorites. Â The cheese plate was delicious. Â Lovely tasting room, very classy!
Review Source:I brought my friend who is being deployed to Afghanistan here for our good-bye for a while. Â I first happened upon this place on my way to Papyrus and lets just say, I forgot all about Papyrus upon visiting this delectable spot. Â I felt the wine was exceedingly good and bought a bottle of the Bella Vista Cabernet reserve as well as the Cabernet Franc which I feel are quite comparable to St. Supery with their imported wines reminding me of being back in Paris.
I love their cheese platter with the warm crustini. Â You can get 5 good size portions of cheese with crustini or $18 to go with the wine tasting. Â It is enough for a meal and moreso since I was very full upon eating it. Â I also recommend their meats. Â They do bring out so much flavor in the wine.
Also what this place has that other wine bars don't is comfort. Â They have a lounge type atmosphere where you can sit down, drink your tasting slowly and not have to cling, standing up to the actual bar, though you can if that is your wish.
Anyway, there is not much more I can say but that it's definitely worth a visit and I will soon be returning. Â For some that gave the wine a bad review, well taste is subjective, but hey, more wine and cheese for me!
Room is beautiful and staff is nice, if a little stand-offish. Warm up just a bit guys and gals...wine tasting is a joyous event! Â Â
Wine should be the focal point and  I understand that, as a winemaker, one is in business with nature, but that is where the pixie dust of the winemaker comes in!
Welcome to Danville.
It's about time we had an upscale wine tasting location in the East Bay ...short of driving to Napa! This place is right on spot, great location and ambience, wide selection of wine varietals with excellent food pairings provided by it's own chef no less: plus the charm of it's manager, Stacey, formerly owner of a Pleasanton restaurant by the same name.
My wife and I have gone back on several occasions and have not been disappointed yet. While not by any means cheap, I found the wines, which I believe are all made from Napa Valley grapes, to be very good and on a par with comparable Napa wineries. The food pairings consisted of a variety of cheeses, fish and cold meats, and bakery style breads...many dishes were served in the Italian crostini style. On each of our visits, the chef presented a featured special: stuffed potato skins, bacon wrapped scallops, and small pizzas....all of which were excellent. Â Also, on certain nites, live music makes this more of a total entertainment spot to spend an evening with a date or to meet up with friends.
Of course there were the rough spots typical of a new venture..the worst being slow service at times, but nothing that can't be worked out as the staff becomes more experienced.
A strong thumbs up!
My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place while walking around Danville one afternoon. The idea of having a chef on site is an excellent concept. The staff was very friendly and this place is a great addition to downtown Danville. I recommend the Cab but unfortunately our favorite one was only for sale to members. We are looking forward to going back when they have their live music nights.
Review Source:I stopped in here with my GF the other week to check it out. The place looks fantastic but the wine is horrible. The staff is nice but hey if you don't have good wine, you don't. The only thing that was approachable was there pinot. They really need to fire their wine maker and learn how to blend better. I am not spending $90 on a bottle of cab which I wouldn't even drink if it was given to me.
Review Source:The fun crew is no longer there :(
Service seems to have dropped now that Stacey is no longer there. Â It's ashamed, we really enjoyed her as a host. Â Her wealth of knowledge on wine and pairings was what kept us coming back. Â We miss our expert!
Sorry for your loss of a great host and several regular customers.

Happened upon this place on Saturday after lunch at Pete's Brass Rail, walking by there was really no indication what this place was but with the doors open and a couple of people inside we decided to look and we're happy we did.
Upon entering and asking 'what is this place' we were greeted by a couple of friendly faces, 'we're the tasting room for Auburn James Winery', to find out Auburn James is a artesian winery in Livermore that sources most their fruit from terroirs the wine maker feels represents each varietals the best (nice we thought since we've really never been fans of LV wine).
Well we took a place at the tasting counter (standing only) and took a look at the wine list, they have it broken down by flights (which you can mix and match), they only have three whites but we're red fans so we tried the Bordeaux and Alternative red flight, all 3 oz pours. We really enjoyed the Cab Franc, Pinot & Meritage, we're pretty picky about our wine but half the wines we tasted held up very strong, we'll be picking up some bottles of the Pinot & Cab Franc in near future and we hardly ever do that for wines tasted at tasting rooms, their Pinot might become our everyday Pinot!
They also have small bite ('nibbles' their term not mine) available that pair well with their wines we were told, we didn't try any but all sounded appetizing.
Overall the experience was fantastic, the people there were knowledgeable, friendly and really seemed interested in wine which was a pleasure since our typical experience at tasting rooms is so assembly line, we'll definitely be back to taste more and think we found our new after work/weekend wine spot, but shhh don't tell anyone our secret ;-)
