I was really close to give this place a 4-star on our first visit. Unfortunately, one waiter ruined it!

Our first visit gets a 4-star: We just arrived to the hotel and we were extremely hungry. We noticed this pub right off the bat walking in. We dropped of our stuff in the room and ran down. This place is so nicely decorated. Love all the wood around. We went straight to the bar and sat down to order. The bartender- wish I could remember her name. She was so friendly and outgoing! She welcomed us and took our order right away. She let me sample a few white wines so I could choose which I liked best. There are complementary pretzels with mustard sauce. So yummy.

My boyfriend and I wanted something easy and quick so we ordered BYO Burger which comes with Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion in a Brioche Bun. We added cheddar cheese and bacon. Not even 5-10 minutes later our order was in front of us. It was so delicious and perfectly made. We could not have asked for more. I was so happy that I could see myself coming here quite often while I stayed at the Marriott.

Our second visit (rude waiter)- I give you 1 star!
Just coming back from church for a wedding we are again starving. We wanted to order a few appetizers and drinks. We walked in and we were immediately greeted and the host asked us if we wanted a table or go to the bar. Since the bar looked full. We said we would like to order "some appetizers" and drinks. So she sat us down at a table. (only the bar was full. plenty of tables are empty). Once the waiter heard "appetizers" she went up the hostess after we were seated and told her "they want appetizers, they can just go to the bar. I don't have time for this". Of course when I heard this I felt uncomfortable. The waiter then came to our table and took away our utensils and cloth napkin. She brought back a fork and small paper napkins. It was all done in a rude manner. I asked her for water and a glass of red wine. Then we placed our appetizer orders.
Flash Fried Calamari - Sliced Cherry Peppers, Tomatoes, Balsamic Glaze, Harissa Aioli. & Celtic Wings with Carrot & Celery, Bleu Cheese. The appetizers were good. However, I am eating chicken wings with buffalo sauce! It is messy and the small paper napkins are not helping. So, I decided to take the cloth napkin with utensils from the empty table next to us. (while doing this I was hoping the waiter would not see me) To my surprise she was looking straight at me. She comes over right away and rudely places a new napkin and utensils on the empty table. It was just so uncomfortable. I was tense the whole time and wanted to leave.

I wish we had experience a better service like the first time. This waiter needs to take so customer service courses.

Thumbs up to the happy bartender that took care of us the first time. You were awesome :)

Large group of us 2 nights in a row (this is a hotel restaurant). Waiter first night and Manager were very friendly. Second night was not so good. Waitress seemed in the weeds and very put-out having to wait on us. I returned my seared tuna as it was significantly over cooked. Within a minute of taking my plate, the waitress put another plate of overcooked tuna down in front of me (clearly taken from the heat lamp as well). When I noted the grey appearance, I received a blank stare as if to say 'nothing I can do about it'.
Went home hungry.

I like it! Located in the lobby area of the Marriott. Service and food were very good. It was busy on a Monday night, lots of locals seem to enjoy the food as well. I would recommend.

Better than a three rating really. Took a client for lunch. Both of us got salads, one with salmon one with steak. Lettuce was fresh green and had flavor. Fish and steak was cooked well. Bread served with meal was fresh and flavorful. Waiter was a bit slow and prices are well, hotel prices. Overall though it is a good place for a business lunch.

Last minute dinner reservation for 10 on a Saturday night brought us to the Auld Shebeen in the Marriott in Parsippany. We were promptly seated in the Library room which was cozy and comfortable and our drink orders taken and drinks turned around quickly. As for our meal order we did have to track down the server to have her take our order. (no rush because fixed gratuity for a party of 8 or more?). Meals came out in a timely manner, however, one had to be sent back because it was the wrong order. Again it took us tracking down the server to get the corrected meal. Needless to say the service was the weak point of an otherwise good meal. The menu is your basic Irish Pub fare and the folks in our group had the fish and chips, reuben, corned beef sandwiches, shepards pie and turkey club. Feedback was positive from all though the shepards pie folks did state it was a bit salty. Overall everyone was satisfied.

I enjoyed the atmosphere, the Guinness and the meal and would return again. Next time will be with a smaller group to test my service theory.

No Irish cider in an "Irish" bar, inconceivable!

I have been staying at the Marriott where this restaurant is located over the past few weeks for work, and two weeks ago I stopped in for dinner on a Sunday night after traveling down to NJ from CT.

After waiting for someone to assist me and the couple that had arrived before me, a group of exiting patrons informed us that we could seat ourselves. To me, a sign of some sort would have been nice. Apparently they do not always have a host(ess) manning the front door, so be forewarned.

As I was flying solo that night, I decided to post up at the bar. There were a few seats open, but there were still plates on the counter. I picked the least messy locale and subsequently waited approximately 5 minutes for the bartender to clean up the food that was obviously not mine. Already off to a bad start.

After the clean up, I waited for the bartender to give me a menu. Then I waited some more. Finally, I got his attention and asked for the menu. As he provided the menu he asked for my drink order. Finally some progress.

I looked over the menu and the corned beef spoke to me. Trying to stay somewhat on track with the diet, I went with the salad for my side. It is important to remember that this is an "Irish" bar, so the expectation was that the corned beef would probably be decent.

After waiting for over 20 minutes, with the two drunk guys next to me successfully ordering two rounds of appetizers to my one "entree", I was starting to wonder what was going on. Not to worry, a few minutes later my food was presented to me by a coughing waiter and I was so pumped to dig in. I hope you feel my sarcasm.

So the food...in a word: blah. In a few words...sub par at best. The corned beef on rye was poor and the "salad" was a bunch of leaves with a bucket of dressing on the side. Best to come to this place if you are staying at the hotel and you want to get a drink or 10. That way you will remember this place fondly and be glad you didn't have to drive home that night.

A generous two stars.

I have been here on several occasions, and while most were great experiences, my last visit there was so bad that I don't know if I will go back again for a while, if ever.

Sunday nights are pretty quiet at most restaurants and it was no different here. However, there was no one at the hostess stand and no one appeared for about 15 minutes. Then we had to wait while a table was cleared for us. The waitress was pleasant enough, but she appeared to be the only waitstaff working that night. It took another 10 minutes for her to come get our drink orders, and 10 more minutes after we got our drinks for her to get our food orders. She didn't come to check on us at all after our entrees arrived. We sat around at least 15 minutes after we finished eating before she came to see if we wanted dessert and coffee. When we finished dessert, our waitress was nowhere to be found. By the time we got our check, we had been at the restaurant for over two and a half hours and were the only occupied table (outside of the bar). I did my time waiting tables, but that is unacceptable. I think it just comes down to being under-staffed, which shouldn't happen when a restaurant charges what it does for its entrees. We saw several bussers/runners - it would have been more wise to have more waiters to assist the diners.

We had a gift certificate from http://restaurant.com so we knew we had to hit a certain dollar amount on our meal - which we did, and then some. I do understand that restaurants need to make money when they have those offers, but we were really disappointed in this place. The entrees and appetizers are priced on par with other restaurants. The alcohol prices were, to put it mildly, absurd. And for the service we received, the 20% mandatory gratuity was significantly more than what was deserved. I purchased other certificates to this restaurant and highly doubt I will ever use them, especially with so many better Irish pub options in the area. It's sad to see a place that I would have given 5 stars just a couple of years ago drop in quality so much. I am now embarrassed to recommend this place to any of my friends.

Great decor, but I got the Corned Beef sliders and they were awful. I've had corned beef many times in my life and these were by far the fattiest pieces of dry beef I had ever had. The buns were stale too. I didn't eat 90% of them and told the waitress I didn't care for them, but she left them on the bill anyway.

This had to be the coolest Irish pub I've been to in awhile and it's located in one of the most unsuspecting place's you'll find. The Marriott, located on Route 10 in Whippany, is a rather classy joint (at least the lobby had me impressed) and unless you've stayed at the hotel or a friend has told you about this place, you'd never know it's there. I've been told everything in the pub is authentic and it sure looked it. It wasn't too crowded at lunch time and we had no trouble getting a table. Service was quick and the staff was very attentive to our needs. My friend and I opted for the Reuben and what a great choice it was. Can you say awesome???? The corned beef was lean and moist and plenty of fries on the side. I didn't leave hungry that's for sure.

By the looks of it, I suspect it's a fun place to hang for Happy Hour or in the fall for football games. Any time of the day or week would be a good time to stop on by so give it a try!

This place has a cool Irish feel as the space has been constructed from materials brought in from the emerald isle. Happy hour is very busy, and dinner service is hectic and slow at best. Chicken panini is decent, as is the French onion soup. For lunch, which was much leas busy, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It was very good, if not pricey at $14. As a matter of fact, sandwich prices start with the turkey club, $10, and the prices go up from there. So, to recap, great Irish pub ambiance, decent bar food, slow service and high prices capture the essence of auld Shabeen.

Located in the Hanover Mariott is this authentic Irish pub. I have been here on numerous occasions and my last visit I sat at a table near the bar. The server who took care of me was also the bar tender. He did a great job making sure that I had everything and had a nice personality. I have to say i was slightly disappointed though with my fish and chips. The fish was overcooked and not nearly as good as I have had there in the past. My kid had chicken fingers and there was no complaints from his side of the table.

Ahhh, The Auld Shebeen...good beer, slow bartenders and terrible food. It's located inside the Marriott off Route 10. It's tight quarters at the bar and average dining space. Happy Hour favorite of my old company. Went recently I remembered why I didn't like this place. Yeah the ambiance and look of the place is nice once inside but that's were all the good things stop. The bartenders aren't very friendly and super slow (even if it wasn't even busy), the food is subpar (typical Irish fare mixed with continental) and the beers were the only saving grace. It was the few HH spots rather than going into Motown.

The location itself is impressive, stonework, large wooden bar, really charming.

Being a veteran of the restaurant industry certain things really really annoy me. The big one, an empty hostess stand; which is exactly what we saw on Saturday night. Not even a server wandered near the entrance. So, I ventured to the bar to see if someone was hanging around there to help us. Nope, and the bartenders never turned from the computer screen to see me standing there. Someone showed up and took us to our table. Our server was nice enough, if a bit clueless. I ordered a turkey burger, which was supposed to come with chipotle aioli, avocado and the usual lettuce, tomato and onions. I asked "no aioli." He then asked me, "no avocado?' Avocado is fine, no mayo/sauce /whatever you want to call it.

What I received was a beyond dry turkey burger, with no aioli and no avocado. When I asked about avocado, the server came back at me, telling me what I had asked for and what I had was what i requested. Pet Peeve Number 2: I'm the customer, I might not always be right, but don't disagree with me. Especially when it's sliced avocado, not the difference between Rare and Well Done.Just apologize and correct it.

I'd give it another shot and stick to something less complicated.

I get here every Sunday, late afternoon. The staff is very attentive and friendly, food is good and the atmosphere very relaxing. I love when I see the bartender getting my next beer just before I'm done with one in front of me. Sometimes the TV's are a little loud but that's easily fixed by request. Overall, a great place to hang with friends for a few.

I have visited the Auld Shebeen on a number of occasions.... two of which stand out to me the most.

The first was on St. Patrick's Day and this bar was insane! We actually went there looking for a quiet place to have a few drinks and celebrate our Irish blood..... however, it was packed! Wall to wall people.... and live Irish music. It actually turned out to be a really fun night!

The second time was actually my wedding day. We decided to use the Marriott for all of our overnight guests, so after the reception we continued the celebration down at the Auld Shebeen. It was a lot less crowded and I actually got to get a good look at the place. It is really cute inside..... you feel like you are inside an old Irish castle. We ordered some food and everything was very good. The drinks were a reasonable price and the staff was very happy to serve us.
I always enjoy myself at the Auld Shebeen!

Nice looking place. It is furnished with many items from Ireland. Someone told me they relocated an entire a bar( I don't know if that is correct).

The food is good. The staff is friendly.

The Guinness is served cold. This is forgivable in a normal bar, but not in a "Irish" bar. If your not careful they will pour it in a chilled glass.

What a fun little Irish pub!

Located in the Marriott Whippany hotel lobby, this restaurant and bar has some real Irish flavor, and I'm not just talking about the Guinness. It's decorated to look like the basement of a castle, with rock walls and barrels of beer and whiskey all around. The atmosphere is casual and fun, and it was very busy (but not too crowded). The drinks were reasonably priced, and they have free refills for anyone who orders soda (since you need a designated driver in Jersey if you're not staying at the hotel). They have an extensive menu, including burgers, soups, and my favorite: potato skins.
