The food is delicious but the restaurant is far more vegetarian friendly than vegan friendly. Â You would think it would be possible to make cous cous without butter OR at least make a separate batch with olive oil instead (all you do is boil water, throw in the cous cous and let stand for 10 min).
I know most people could care less about vegans but those of us who are extremely challenged on vacation greatly appreciate a chef who goes out of their way to accommodate a vegan. While the Babe's menu LOOKS vegan friendly, be forewarned, the chef is not.
Having said that, what I could eat was delicious.
My wife and I Â visit the Cape every August visiting our generous and loving friends who have rented here for the last 25 years. We like to take them out for a special dinner. The last 2 years we have gone to Babe's. The Moroccan flavor is a welcomed departure from the typical Cape flavor and Babes does an excellent job representing the style. Â From selection and combination of ingredients, presentation and hospitality you will walk away happy and satisfied. But keep in mind the restaurant is tiny tiny so call ahead. The wine selection is reasonable and we were well guided by our waitress. Service was excellent. Menu has something for everyone, that is if you are into Mediterranean food.
What we ordered either first or second visit:
Arugula and Pear Salad, excellent
Spinach and Feta Salad, excellent
Sanbusaks, OMG! excellent
Izmiri Kofte, (meat balls) were dry and hard.
Lemon Chicken Tagine, amazing, There was some jealously at the table, but I got a taste.
Lamb Souvlak, white sweets and tzatziki sauce. Yum Buckets!
Turkish Beef Kebab, Delicious!
Spinach, Mushroom and Leek Lasagne, AMAZING!
So check them out. For being the only Med Food around they don't rest on their laurels.
