Cordial, friendly service. Â I'd recommend their fudge brownie, which was moist, super-fudgey, but not overpoweringly sweet. Â Iced coffee was also great, especially since they offered Hazelnut as one of the basic iced coffee options. Â The only downside was that they didn't offer simple syrup for iced coffee! Â Their baked goods looked delicious, so I'd like to go back to check out their lunch options.
The other reason why I gave a 3-star rating was the fact that there was a layer of haze or smoke (not from smoking though!) in the air. Â It was very toasty and warm, so perhaps it was just poor ventilation from the bread-baking. Â I will probably return, but just to pick up food next time.
For a bagel in southern VT this is the place. Â Broad variety of bagels and applications. Â Very friendly and efficient staff who seem to want you to have a good experience, and if you are in a rush this is helpful. Â The coffee is very sound and reliably good. Â Very satisfactory over and over again.
Review Source:The Works (Bakery Cafe) seems to be part of a larger chain, but since I'm not from the area this was the first one I have seen. They had a lot of franchising information at the counter so perhaps they are expanding in that area.
Typical bagel sandwich cafe. You can get an assortment of bagels, and breakfast and lunch sandwiches. They also offer coffees and smoothies. I enjoyed my breakfast sandwich, and my boyfriend enjoyed his salmon lunch bagel sandwich. The coffee, although they only had 1 flavor, was very good too. They reminded me of a Bruegger's Bagel or Finagle a Bagel.
Prices were a little steep, but I got the impression everything in downtown Manchester, VT was a little more than I would pay in the Boston area. The place had quick and friendly service, and was a nice place to sit and eat. If you're craving a bagel, it's a good spot to stop when you're in the area.
