The Baltic is a very cute bar/restaurant/biergarten. It isn't 'trendy' (= fake); it's a laid-back, simple, honest, fun, and friendly place to hang out, eat, have a drink, play foosball, and listen to music. Go with friends, or go alone. If you're alone there will always be some friendly local patrons to chat up, if not the staff themselves.
The food is German themed, with all of your standards - schnitzel, bratwurst, spaetzle, Â potato pancakes, etc., plus burgers and sandwiches. They also have lighter fare such as fish, chicken, and salads. Good, simple food that is well prepared.
I don't drink so I can't speak to the beer selection, etc., but I did note that they have ~20 German beers. However, I can say the iced tea is good. ;-)
The interior seating available includes booths, tables for 2+, and the bar of course. There is a biergarten/patio that is nicely shaded with wisteria and jasmine. A dance floor is located in an open area where live music sets up. For those lazy afternoons The Baltic  has free wireless and plenty of outlets, even the patio has outlets for almost every table.
There is a regular schedule of live music throughout the week as well as a karaoke night. Check out their website <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.balticjoint.net&s=f65331371b89268b831beb78b0a3306e555a039c2b3426cb3e84c26255b0f653" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.balticjoint.n…</a> for the schedule.
The staff is very, very friendly and service is excellent.
I really like The Baltic. I've been here several times, and each visit has been very enjoyable. Check the place out, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
After just landing at SFO, my friends decided to take me around downtown Richmond and brought me to this place. I was a little skeptical at first since it didn't look like there was a lot of people outside the place, but just a like a book, you shouldn't judge it by its cover.
This place was bigger than I expected. There is a bar area as well as a dining area  for people to eat and drink as well as a sufficient backyard area.
Service was a little slow as most of them were busy tending to the people at the bar and at the back but nonetheless were friendly and were able to suggest various items from their menu.
I ordered their special burger, which was a buffalo burger, which according to them, is made from real buffalo. I was surprised on how good the burger was. It also contained lettuce, mayo, tomatoes, and onions. They suggest that I forgo the cheese. The taste of the buffalo was different than a beef patty, but tasty nonetheless. Further the lack of cheese made meant that the buffalo was the focal point.
This place a good place with decent bar food and your typical selection of beers, wines and spirits.
Love the food here. I've never had a bad meal or a bad beer.
Once or twice I've been disturbed by the mediocre music that was SO LOUD I could not think, much less talk to my companions.
The only thing I wish they would do is work on the atmosphere. The bar part is fantastic, but the main dining areas are pretty bad. There's nothing on the walls, the carpet looks straight out of a disheveled trailer park. The chairs and tables are like diner rejects. There's no *style.* And there's SO much potential in that building and with the German theme.
Their kitchen closes at 9:30pm, and we would get there at 9:15pm. We called ahead to make sure they would keep the kitchen open for us, which they did. So awesome of them!
We ordered their salmon and pork chops. Pricey, but delicious! Yumm! This was our 3rd or 4th time coming here, and we'll be back!
I walked into this place yesterday afternoon with my husband. There were 2-3 people at the bar and tables. One of the employees, a young woman, clearly saw us but kept walking back and forth between the two rooms, doing I don't know. She never acknowledged us for the 10 minutes we were sitting at the table by the door. I even walked by her to go to the restroom. She didn't go behind the bar (otherwise I would have walked up and ordered). Then a guy came from out back and walked in behind the bar, the girl followed him and both got busy there. The guy started serving a guy who had just walked in and sat at the bar. We sat there another couple of minutes hoping they'd come around and was wondering if we should go up to the bar and order. But in any case, it doesn't justify why the girl didn't ever come around to us to give us menus and ask what we want to drink and that neither of them acknowledged us nor told us to come up to the bar (if that's how it's done at this stupid bar). So we left and they looked at us as we were leaving. :)
Review Source:Great German Food. Great German Beer Selection. Great Atmosphere. Great Deck Off The Back. Live Music. Always full of fun people. Lots of History. Very safe atmosphere. The kind of place you feel right at home. Kind of reminds me of bars and restaurants in Tiburon or Sausalito in Marin, when I was a kid back in the 1970's. I am kind of surprised Point Richmond has such a great German restaurant in such a cool little town!
Review Source:As a German, I am always interested in finding the definitive food place. Â The Baltic comes close. Â Besides, it is in Point Richmond which is a bay area hidden gem.
Authentic beers: 5 stars
Authentic food: Â 3.5 to 4
atmosphere: wonderful old world (and I mean a bit outdated here)
Service: spot-on
Did not try the entire menu but had the "German salad", Â schnitzel and potato pancakes. Â Friend had the pork shank, spaetzel and red cabbage. Â Of course, we had to try the apple strudel~
Highlights: pork shank, strudel, and German salad. Â Other item were a bit uneven to call great....but edible for sure. Â Can't say I tasted the spaetzel...I have an aversion to swiss cheese...but my friend enjoyed his plateful.
Servings are large, the bar a bit loud as the evening progressed and it looks like they have live music some nights.
I will explore the music and return for the beer selection and strudel--
I came here for a beer after work, and while the atmosphere was nice, the food was horrible. I decided to treat myself to some hotwings and garlic fries. The wings were soggy and tasted like they were frozen tyson wings from costco. The fries were just...i don't even know how to describe it... they were both undercooked and overcooked. I am truly baffled at how a bar could mess up fries. They were chewy and cardboard-like and hollow and tasted like the oil was maybe old or not hot enough. I thought about asking for another batch, but my coworker had some come out ten minutes later and they were even worse (tasted like they shared oil with fish). I know this description seems like overkill, but I was so perplexed to pay 4 dollars for the worst fries i've ever had. Luckily, my coworkers shared the basket and the aftertaste, so at least I didn't eat a whole basket of disappointment.
Review Source:I fell in like with this place because it offers live salsa music and dancing. Â It also offers a wide variety of live music. Â However, they are one of those restaurants who uses old left overs and calls them Specials. Â The waitress eagerly told us about "the specials." Â One was a Lamb Shank dish. Â It could not be cut with the knife given to us. Â It required a steak knife or something, which means the lamb shank was tough. Â
The meat was dry and hard. Â It tasted old. Â The sauce tasted old. Â It looked like, felt like and tasted like something made a week ago and left in the fridge. Â It was dull, hard and dry. Then it's like they decided to freeze it to preserve it. Â But when you freeze cooked meat and reheated, it becomes worst. Â Serving old food and charging full price or even more because you're calling it "a special" is horrible.
When we ordered this "special" at the bar I saw the bartender give the waitress a smile. Â It makes sense now. Â Something was up with that Lamb Shank. Â They were trying to get rid of it. Â It should have been thrown away, not making suckers out of paying customers. Â
I cannot believe this restaurant had the audacity to serve left overs and charge full price for it. Â I'm outraged. Â In addition, no one really checked on us. Â Our waitress never came back to ask us how things were. Â Maybe she was ashamed or scared. Â
The non-special item we ordered, grilled pork chop with sauerkraut and garlic mashed potatoes was better. Â It was something off the regular menu. Â It tasted fresher.
Wow was I pleasantly suprised with The Baltic!
Went in just for some German Beer but after checking out the menu we decided to try the food.
We started out slowly ordering the shrimp appetizer. We loved it! Super fresh, good flavor. We then ordered a couple salads. I ordered the garden salad with Chicken and my BF the Baltic (German style) salad. We loved our salads!
I admit I've never been a fan of German fare. Especially the pickled salad, beets, etc. But they really do it right. My BF loved his salad..........and he usually doesn't "love" salads. I thought my salad was good too. The chicken was spiced well and was fresh.
I would definitely be back here to eat and Drink!
I deducted one star on the lack of Ambiance. Because of this we ate on the outside deck but man there were a bunch of chain smokers out there. Other than that this place was awesome.
Used a $25 <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> coupon.
The place was a little confusing, didn't know where to sit, but bartender said have a seat at any of the tables & he will someone would help us.
The waitress came a few minutes later with menus.
We had the potato pancake appetizer, benito sandwich, and a pasta dish with broccoli & shrimp that came with bread.
We enjoyed everything, but didn't have room for dessert. So we took some strudel to go. It sure was small. Maybe 2 bites. Put in the fridge and forgot about it. Don't even know if it was good or not.
But everything else was!
A band was having dinner before setting up, so not sure what the music was like.
Went to have dinner and it was not a great time. Â Survice was terribly slow. Â Was offered bread which never appeared. Â Had the gummy bear and it was terrible. Â Too sweet and bitter for me so I let my BF drink it instead of finishing it. Â Asked for a beer to replace it which never showed up. Â I had the venison and was told it is cooked rare to remain juicy but the brown hockey puck that came was inedible. Â After a good 20-30 min without a replacement drink or someone to do something about the shoe leather on my plate I was over it. Â My BF ordered a jaeger spaetzle which was much much better. Â I wouldn't go back but I have a feeling I might be dragged there again due to the lack of local options. Â Â
If they do anything to help the restaurant take the shitty venison off the menu.
Went here with some co-workers after work for dinner. Had some german food. Had Spatzle & Redcabbage for the first time. Different & Good. Beer selection was good aswell.
I came back again for Happy Hour. They have a Burger and Fries deal for like $5. That was a plus. Had a few beers but haven't had a chance to have DAS BOOT! Have to come back to have 64oz of beer. DAS BOOT! They also have live music on the weekends from time to time.
Ate lunch here on a Sunday at noon. It was quiet and strangely, not too many tables in the front. I didn't check out the patio since it was too cold outside for me.
The lunch menu is very short (sandwiches & salads), but they also will serve you breakfast too, since it's brunch and thankfully not a buffet. We were offered unlimited mimosas for $13.95, but we weren't in the mood. Instead we each a beer from the tap. I had the smoothest amber (not very hoppy) which is exactly what I was looking for and my husband had an Oktoberfest beer which he liked too.
I had the chicken pesto mushroom sandwich and it was tasty. My husband ordered the bratwurst sandwich and declared he will be back. We both had the fries which were crispy and with a hint of cajun (and not too much salt). Yum! Just wish the waiter would have come back and asked us if we needed more water.
This is what I like to call a come-from-behind victory. We went to try this very local place and got a odd vibe upon arrival. It was early but still a reasonable dinner hour and the dining room was pretty much empty, but the bar was full. Not the kind of signal that people come for the food.
We were seated in a darkish corner, although we were offered our pick of tables. The space looks spare and a bit bleak. It would be a great place to shoot a scene for a gritty movie with lots of tough guys hanging out after they've just pulled off some crime. Not cozy, but we persisted.
Our waitress was super friendly and maintained a good attitude as our first three choices for draft beer were shot down because they were out. That was the other thing that got us worried. If a restaurant is out of lots of stuff it's not usually a good sign, but we hung in there.
And were rewarded. I ordered a buffalo burger with fries and my companion ordered Bratwurst with Sauerkraut, and Spatzle instead of potatoes. Â We also ordered a couple of beers we wouldn't have otherwise- I had a Spaten Optimator and my companion a Spaten Oktoberfest (it's well into December mind you). I'm a big hoppy beer guy, but can go for the occasional stout. Double bocks usually don't do it for me, but the Optimator was as complex as any XPA. It was perfect with my burger (cooked to perfection).
It was a solid, delicious meal, every bit of it. Although a heads up on the fries: they taste like they're made in house, so order them a little crispy. Mine had plenty of crackle on the outside, but tasted like they could have used some more time cooked in the middle. Other than that it was one of the most surprising and best meals we've had since moving to the area a few months ago.
Among my favorite bars of all times!  The crowd is always a mix of regulars, newcomers, and at  least 1 weirdo who wandered in from the iron triangle, but always friendly and relaxed - never experienced an attitude or beer-muscles from anyone.  Bartenders are pros, good drinks, friendly, and will turn on the A's or Giant's game if you ask.  I think the building is gorgeous - stained glass windows and light shades, along with old wood trim and bar counter, surrounded by a mix of old paintings and modern beer signs...it's pleasant. Â
Killer beers  Spaten Optimator if you want a super dark and heavy beer - I recommend the Maisel Weisse, if they have it - It's a hefeweizen that is incredibly aromatic and complex, but very easy to drink. Â
Parking - Parking in Point Richmond can be tough - there is a TON of parking on the street just behind the bar, and a small wood-planked alley connecting the two streets - If you can't find parking I recommend this approach - it may require a 30 second walk. Â There is a large parking lot behind the restaurant too, but I'm not sure if it's OK to park there. Â
I normally don't order food as I'm ridiculously cheap, (not to infer high prices...just that grilled cheese at home costs $0.60 to make) but what I have had has been excellent. Â
So, cheers to the Baltic!
Great little place.
The wife and I stopped in after dinner at Hotel Mac for a night cap... I had the hefe, she had a martini... both were great! Service at the bar was pretty good too.
The crowd here is really laid back and chill, looked like a lot of regulars on a Saturday night... my kinda place.
I can't wait to stop in for dinner one night!
We came here tonight and had the venison and Sauerbraten (beef tri tip). Â Both dishes came with cranberry sauce, spatzle and red cabbage. Â The Sauerbraten was so tender that it dissolved in my mouth. Â It was my favorite. Â I also enjoyed the venison which tasted like lean beef. Â The red cabbage was too sweet for me because it was drenched in sugar. Â I also enjoyed the spatzle which is like gnocchi but lightly browned in oil. Â Everything went well together. Â
Service was professional, fast, and courteous. Â
The only downside is that the place needs a makeover. Â The dining area is dark, old, and tacky looking. Â Old plastic flowers lined the small light fixtures and there were two creepy paintings. One looked like an alien was standing behind a man with no face. Â It felt like a haunted house.
Other than that, I enjoyed my dinner here. Â I'll definitely return to try some other items on their menu.
The Baltic would be a regular lunchtime spot for me, were it not for the absence of parking in Pt Richmond, so it's missing the 4th Yelp star
The patio out back is great on warm sunny days, the food is delicious, the servers are friendly if somewhat slow, and the pricing is about right for German style food. I think the only thing they lack at lunch, though, is customers... I know I've gotten tired of driving around and around the block looking for a parking space, so I'm sure others have given up too and gone somewhere else to eat
If management could figure out where to put our cars, I bet traffic, and income, would pick up a bit
OK, this is for the ole skoolers for just a minute. Â I will come back to the youngins and everything in between momentarily. Â Imagine yourself at a great house party; great atmosphere, DJ doing his thing, good food. Â Everyone is on the dance floor, then someone bumps into the DJ's turntable, and things suddenly come to a screeching halt. Â Vibe all jacked up like in the movie "House Party".
A similar scenario took place with my visit to The Baltic.  The bartender was super friendly, and the band was great, then things took a turn when myself and two other friends decided to do a Yelp check in.  After we checked in, a message displayed stating we could redeem a dessert.  We then showed the bartender, and in return he displayed a look of utter confusion.  He said "we have been having a problem with that".  He then went on to say if we give out the desserts we will run out, and then went and retrieved the manager.  The manager further reiterated this, and compromised by giving us two to share between the three of us after much dialogue(he didn't want to give us any).  When I asked why the Baltic would offer the check in bonus and not allow its patrons the redemption, his answer was that  they didn't, and that Yelp did it on their own(yeah, right).  I then asked "have you taken this matter up with Yelp?".  He said no.  Soooo, I am hereby putting Yelp on notice, on behalf of the Baltic that you are offering check in offers without the proprietors knowledge.  You're welcome The Baltic!
Probably the best lunch place in Point Richmond. Â Good German food, beer, a casual atmosphere, outdoor patio, and decent service. Â The food doesn't rank up there with some of the best German restaurants in SF, but they use good quality meat and have a fairly varied menu, Â They also have a few American items for timid eaters who are scared of schnitzel. Â Nothing here tastes like it fell premade out of a SYSCO truck.
They are only open for lunch on Fridays in the winter, and now open Tues-Friday for lunch (April) during the summer, so call ahead to make sure they aren't closed.
This place is a restaurant on one side of the wall and a bar on the other. Â You have to walk through the bar to get to the restaurant. Â It's in an old building in the downtown section of Point Richmond. Â Parking wasn't an issue in the evening when we went. Â It looks like they do live concerts occasionally as well.
Had the gemusestrudel because it was something that I had never tried. Â Wasn't a large portion, but just enough to fill me up, especially after dipping into my daughter's mashed potatoes. Â The staff was friendly and accommodating as we were one of only two tables filled at the time.
Apparently, there's a glitch with Yelp* and this place. Â According to Yelp*, we were to get a free dessert if we did a "check-in" while at the restaurant. Â This was news to the manager and he stated that there was no such agreement between The Baltic and Yelp*. Â To his credit, he did give us a free dessert to honor the Yelp* certificate.
In all, I'm glad we made the drive to Point Richmond to visit this little gem of a restaurant. Â I look forward to going back and exploring the menu further.
Came here for valentine's day with my fiancé. I didnt want to go anywhere fancy and this was the perfect place.
We were one of the first people there and plotted ourselves right next to the window. Van was our server and the bartender, awesome and very friendly guy. He was very patient with us on our beer selections and gave us good recommendations in the food.
The ocktoberfest beer was great, went well with my  jagerschnitzel and my fiancé got the spaten Oppenheimer beer. For dessert, we had apfelstrudel, very yummy! Definitely coming back here especially to bring out of town guests. Can't wait to try the other items on the menu as well.
The Sauteed Garlic Prawns Appetizer with Mashed Potatoes is so good, the prawns melted in mouth. Another appetizer, the Mini-Brats are also awesome. Full of flavor and the German Mustard helps bring it all together.
The NY Steak on the other hand, not so great. The cut wasn't very good. It was too tough and not tender, full of gristle.
But the Appetizer were great! Service was friendly. We came on a Sunday afternoon before the rush and sat outside on a lovely day. It's actually one of the first Bars in the area, so it's very historically important. The interior is like an old western saloon.
On a beautiful day we made a repeat for the HH at the Baltic. We wanted to sit on the patio, yet although it was sunny out - the weather was a stretch, so we hit the bar.
What a comfortable place to come hang out and have a drink or dinner. People are friendly and although old school, this place is fun for all ages. The bartender we had last time Lauren, was really nice.
I had the Seasonal Gordon Beirsch Winterbock in the Liter Mug ($6.00 during HH) and he orders the Spatan Oktoberfest ($3.50 pint). <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/xz9z-qVIHpd9P3x1KdwlzA?select=nuziBoUcVnIfV4p_YtglfA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
We enjoyed our beers and got out of there before the sun fell. ;)
Vegetable Strudel - delish!! Loved the goat cheese in it. The portion was just right. It could have been a little hotter, but nonetheless it was good.
Fries - OMGGGGGG. I love fries. And because I love fries, I am very picky when it comes to fries. These fries, oh my. Yes, I know. They're just fries. But the fries here are seasoned to perfection and perfectly crispy and not soggy and just plain delicious!!!
Burgers - my brother said they have some of the best burgers he's ever had.
We had so much fun (notwithstanding the inebriated hazards on the floor late in the evening) on our 1st visit, that we went a couple of weeks later for dinner and dancing.
Food: We ordered the soup of the day (lentil veggie) and some sides (my companion wasn't very hungry). Â There's a nice sounding vegetarian entree, but unfortunately it includes red bell peppers which I can't handle (chilies yes, bell no). Â The garlic butter (with the complementary bread - lightly toasted and a bit hard on the soft palate), and the lentil soup were both pretty tasty. Â I appreciated that they leave the salting up to the diners. Â The red cabbage (hot dish) was a bit sweet. Â The spatzele (basically mac and cheese) was fine. Â The sauerkraut (hot dish) was good for a meat eater - it included bits of bacon. Â I picked out a bit, and found the flavor and texture to be good, though I prefer more assertive seasonings and vinegary flavor. Â The food prices were a bit high, and there was a $5 cover as well (we arrived just after 9pm - don't know if the cover applies before then).
Service: The waitress was nice if a bit frazzled. Â After getting the bread and butter, we waited longer than I expected to get our food - especially since we hadn't ordered entrees - nothing was cooked-to-order, and nothing need extra work to plate. Â Since I asked if the soup was vegetarian, the waitress should have told me that the sauerkraut included bacon (and the menu should also have noted the bacon). Â (Granted, I should have asked.)
Music: The band was a big disappointment. Â From their web site I thought that they'd be similar to Reed Fromer, but instead they were playing square-beat rock that you couldn't swing to, and the vocalist was all about the display instead of the singing - she took up half of the main dance area, and the guys standing around flinging their drinks while they drooled over her took up much of the rest of the area. Â (As I predicted in my first review, the demographics of the crowd are very dependent on the band.) Â It's a bad sign when the music between the sets - Christmas swing and blues in this case - is better for dancing than the sets. Â We'll go back for a good dance band, and get there in time to get some dessert (and a table to park our jackets and drinks).
A review update for the Baltic has been long, long, long overdue.
In the ages since my 1st review, much has changed & all of it for the better. There is now the liquor license & Happy Hour that I was longing for in that old review of yore.
Happy Hour runs 3:00-6:00pm with some sweet deals. Well liquors & pints of beer on tap are $3.50. A whopping liter Stein of beer on tap is only $6.00. For food, the Half Pound Burger & all Brat plates are 1/2 price.
On top of all that, the girlfriend & I discovered that the Baltic has also added music & merriment. We were there on a Friday night when the Reed Fromer Band was performing. They packed the house, pumped out some serious R&B/ funk & got the joint jumpin'.
Now, with a liquor license, Happy Hour, live music & dancing, the Baltic has taken what was already good & made it really great. For me, Point Richmond has 1 more favorite go-to spot.
We decided to meet up with some friends at the baltic since we just returned from a trip to Germany. Upon arriving, I was smitten. It was a Saturday night and moderately busy with a good energy throughout the place.
We were seated right away and I had a beer in my hand not 3 minutes later. Â We ordered up a appetizer (because, you know, how could you not) and moved right on to the main course: spicy German sausages. Â The food was tasty and our server was exceptionally friendly. Â She made sure we were taken care of, but not in an annoying kind of way. Â More like a pleasantly concerned mother kind of way.
We stayed there for 3 hours and, honestly, I thought I could have stayed all night. Â It started feeling more and more like a traditional German wedding the longer we stayed and as more people laughed and clinked beers and danced the night away. Â It was magical. Â And after I downed my first liter of beer, it felt even more magical.
This place would be awesome for friendly get-togethers or family dinners or club meetings or field trips or whatever. Â Bring the family or join someone else's. Â It's all good at the Baltic.
The historic "Baltic" is the the Bay Area's newest German restaurant. In December of 2009 "The Baltic" reopened its doors with an extensive German menu - but unfortunately no liquor license. At the time you could BYOB and that's what patrons were doing until earlier this month (October 2010) when the "end of prohibition" finally arrived at "The Baltic". Now we can all (finally) enjoy some great German beers, wines and Schnapps' which became available to customers just in time for the Oktoberfest season.
"The Baltic" has a long history. A large copper plaque above an old upright piano tells us that "The Baltic" was the first tavern established in Point Richmond back in 1904 and that California author Jack London mentioned this historic landmark in his writings. It has a perfectly preserved turn of the last century feel with its dark wood interior and high ceilings just perfect for a restaurant serving up some very wonderful German cuisine.
This restaurant is located in Point Richmond (aka "The Point") which is Richmond's "Old Town" neighborhood. "The Point" is actually cut off from the rest of Richmond by the 580 Freeway and is in many ways also socially and culturally removed from the rest of the city.
Both food and drinks at "The Baltic" are wonderful. Owners Jason Buckley and Chef Jose Guevara have done a great job of putting together a fine menu and I was both very satisfied with my meal and the service.
I started with a very hard to find bottle of "Gaffel Koelsch". I've never found this in the States and was delighted that they offer this fine Cologne style ale. Other bottled beers include Schneider, Weihenstephen, Franziskaner and several others. Tap beers include Spaten, Stiegel, Weihenstephan, Trumer and more. A great idea is the "Six Beer Sampler" for $10.00. California and German wines (including an unusual German red) as well as personal Schnapps favorites "Kirschwasser" and "Williams-Birne" round out a good selection of hard drinks. For non drinkers try an organic Bavarian imported "Bionade" soda.
The "Erbsensuppe" (split pea) was very tasty. Good German style salads include combination cucumber, carrot, potato, white cabbage and red beets - all very traditional.
There are lots of Entrees to choose from including pork and chicken Schnitzel, Jaegerschnitzel, Kassler, Sauerbraten, Gulasch over Spaetzle, grilled Nuernberger Bratwurst, Pfefferrahm steak and Wildbraten (venison steak). I had the Jaegerschnitzel and loved every bite. American offerings like grilled trout or salmon, pork tenderloin, NY steak or a half pound burger are also here. There's even a vegetarian Kaesespaetzle or vegetable Strudel for non meat eaters.
Lunch is served Tuesday through Friday 11-3PM with Happy Hour 3-5PM. Dinners 5-9PM Tuesday through Sunday.
They now also have a  weekend Brunch from 11AM-3PM that includes German style breakfast offerings. You don't find that everywhere!
Live music on the weekends is in the Rock, Jazz or Blues vain. Although accordionist Karl Lebherz and his Band have also played here recently. When the weather is nice you can sit in their patio "Biergarten" and enjoy a cool one.
This place really has that "old time neighborhood" feel about it and should not be missed. I hope the German and American communities come out to support "The Baltic". We really do need more restaurant "diversity" like this in the Bay Area.
Well, there isn't much of a choice in places to grab a drink in Point Richmond besides the Baltic Square, Hotel Mac, or the one really sketchy place on the corner that shares a door with the liquor store. The Hotel Mac is too rich for my blood, and I was warned by more than one person not to go to the corner liquor store/bar, so I headed on down to the Baltic. For the first hour and a half or so, I was by far the youngest person in there. There was a lousy band playing, and almost instantly I was approached by some dude old enough to be my dad...
Old man-"Excuse me young lady, would you like to dance?"
Me-"Oh, no thank you, I don't dance much."
Old man-"Just one dance."
Me-"No, really. I don't want to."
Old man-"C'mon, I'll leave you alone if you dance with me one time."
Me-"No, you can leave me alone anyway, and I don't want to dance."
He left, and this exchange sparked a conversation with a pleasant middle aged married couple who were camped out at the bar next to me. We chatted the night away, had drinks, did shots, I stumbled home and have not returned.
Not to say I will never return, because it really is the only OK place to go in Point Richmond.
