This place is really great and has super tasty burgers and fries with the best red pepper aioli! This is probably the only place that has aioli in Toledo. Â There are often bands playing on the weekends and are often pretty good. Â The downside of this place is that it is a bit expensive for burgers and it has a lot of older people hanging out here. Â I wish it had a younger crowd but I guess that is what comes with a classy bar.
Review Source:We came for the burgers but we stayed for the eggs.
Driving around like two zombies, moaning for FOOOOOOOOOOD but not sure where to go, we ended up on Monroe street looking for something different. We noticed the parking lot was full at Bar 145 and figured it was a good sign.
The set up was a little confusing. Other than the obvious buffet spread being laid out, there was no signage or menu explaining our options or pricing. We had hoped to order burgers, but the only thing we were able to order was a custom omelette or mac&cheese.
I opted for the omelette and the wife tried the mac. My omelette was ok, but as far as presentation goes it was pretty awful looking being haphazardly flopped into a bowl like plate. My wife's mac&cheese was good, but it came out 15 minutes after my order which was a little frustrating from a pacing point of view.
While she waited for her order, she hit the buffet and brought back a little bit of everything. Conceptually the chicken and waffles were great, but suffered from the "buffet effect" of being a little over cooked and dried out. I think if they offered made to order fried chicken and waffles, they'd have a real hit on their hands.
It was really busy while we were there, and they clearly have a good thing on their hands. I think if I had known going in that it was only breakfast I would have probably enjoyed myself more. Something about going to a burger joint for a burger only to end up with some locks and cream cheese and a bagel is just a little weird.
My only real complaint was the service. It took 20 minutes to get a refill on my tea, which was frustrating.
Over all it was an interesting experience and we'll be back. We'll just know what we're getting ourselves in for next time.
Tried the brunch buffet today. I admire bar 145 for their approach to gastro-pub/ hipster chef- cuisine. Usually pretty solid and inventive. The food all looked good on paper- Mac and cheese bar, herbed scrambled eggs, chicken and waffles. Only chicken and waffles were good. Everything else was- meh. Always a danger with buffets. At $15/ person for the buffet, we found ourselves going back for something, anything that was "great". This was not happening. Partly, this is a function of the buffet, not THEIR buffet, but the very choice to be a buffet only. I was really hoping for a menu as well. Sadly, no. That would have bumped this up a notch because I know what they're capable of. Gripe #2- bar 145 sometimes lives between being a good restaurant and a hip bar for the college age crowd. Normally, this isn't a huge issue, until you get to the service. A crowd of 19 yr old clones prowl the restaurant with a serious disinterest in food service and ingredients. I've been here after hours, with thousand of bud lights flowing through ice tubs, that's the crowd the staff thinks they cater to. I would suggest different teams, more food literate teams for brunch, something to elevate from where they are to where they could be. Also, add an a la carte menu that shares the ambition of the rest of the menu.
Review Source:Food was way better than last time (as I assumed about a year and a half later) based on my recent lunch experience this past week. I had the slider/spinach wedge combo for lunch. Great deal for 8 bucks, plus it won't leave you weighed down. The croutons are some sort of insane hamburger bun toasted with 8 lbs of butter (and are amaze balls).
I would have given 4 stars, but the service is TERRIBLY slow (2 stars at best). Â Don't expect to leave this place and head back to work within an hour (even on a not so busy day), not gonna happen. Instead of having 3 food runners and an expo, you really need to add a third server. The girls are sweet, but can't seem to handle a "steady" lunch very well. Â But still, I'll come back, just for the food.
Um, HELL YES.
This bar is a win for Toledo.
Ambience? HELL YES!
Band rocking out on stage so hard you must end your phone conversation with the beat in your chest. HELL YES!
Good food? HELL YES!
Cool staff? HELL YES!
Will I be back? HELL YES!
Okay, okay enough with the hell yessing.
I found this bar on Yelp on a whim, because as a typical fat American I had a taste for a good burger. And no, not the kind from Good Burger.
Pulling up to the bar with keys still in the ignition and the radio off, I could feel the bass rattling the metal on my Chevy. Then almost abruptly the song ended and the vocalist began to croon out Dobie Gray's "Drift Away". I wanted to hold up a lighter in my car and sway back and forth. I'm no smoker though.
The second thing I noticed was a packed outside patio seating area at 10pm on a Thursday. There was ample seating however, and very few people, if any were standing. I liked this place already.
Upon entering the building the colored lights and young guys on stage take you by storm. They didn't look a day older than the first day after college, but they rocked out anyway to a mixed crowd, young, middle aged, and just plain old.
As for the food, I created a "stack your own" burger which included the natural beef, American cheese, pickle chips, red onions, artisan lettuce, aioli sauce, honey mustard and a side of truffle fries. Hey, I told you I wanted a burger, no adventures tonight. My burger was just as I ordered it, well. It was not pink nor was it burnt, I appreciated that. I also appreciated the $10 price tag. It was an adequate size (another review claimed there were small burgers), as I did not finish it all.
My food was in hand about 20 minutes after ordering, but when you're watching a live show time flies and you may not want to leave. I also appreciated that someone, who I only could assume was the  manager or owner because they weren't wearing a "Bar 145" shirt brought out my food. I also appreciate the tight shirts of the guys at the bar. The girls wear the same shirts too, if thats of any importance to you.
My only complaint is that the band is literally rocking out so hard that they can not hear you on the phone. I tried to order over the phone before arriving but it was extremely difficult and a lot of repeating because of the noise. Move the phones to the back or a separate area.
I will be back Bar 145. I will be back.
I really like this place and come here often. I really appreciate that they use Niman Ranch beef, so you know you're not going to get e. coli, and I like that you can build your own burger and even get it on top of a salad instead of a bun. This place is a great alternative if you want to eat a good burger with interesting accoutrements. The fries are good too, and the kids burgers always leave my kids feeling full. Kids eat free on Tuesdays.
The only thing I wish that would change about this place is if they banned smoking on the patio. I love sitting outside, but when there's a smoker I can't handle it. The smoke often flows inside too from the patio, so sit far away from the patio if you're inside and want to avoid smelling cigarette smoke!
This place took me by surprise. A strip Mall bar, but it is cool. I was impressed with the layout. Nice open atmosphere and a outside Patio. They have LIVE music with a stage for the bands to perform on.
I just had a few beers and some appetizers. My daughter and I were killing time. Chris at the bar was very friendly and attentive. My daughter and Chris struck up a rather lively conversation.
Looks like a good clean place with a entertainment value that you will enjoy.  The parking  on weekends would be scarce, but adjacent parking lots not far from the bar will be you best bet.
Overall this is a good place to frequent. I will be back when I come to Toledo.
I have been to Bar 145 several times late at night and enjoyed the atmosphere, music, and prompt and friendly service at the bar. Most recently I stopped in later in the evening for a burger and a drink. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect. The burger was cooked exactly as I ordered, and the fried green beans were equally delicious. I also appreciate the extensive variety of Bourbon they offer. I will definitely be back.
Review Source:Holy Toledo!
Boy was this bar a shocker. Â After leaving Arnie's, I was sure this bar in a strip mall was going to be less fun than a dentist appointment. Â Boy was I suprised! Â nice big bar, with a good patio area outside. Â The only problem I had, was the stage/dance area was a bit on the small side. Â you do get upclose and cozy with the band though.
I believe this is the best burger joint in Toledo. The food was fantastic! The fries seasoned with truffle oil and thyme pared so well. The place had a nice buzz in the air and the place was decorated creatively. Tuesdays they have Pinot on the patio. We were able to enjoy the wine for only $15 but it was to hot to be on the patio. I would defiantly recommend checking this place out.
Review Source:This seems to be a burger town. Â With so many new options and few for vegetarians this is a decent locale. Â The vegetarian bean burger is a little too salty but at least it's an option. Â However they have many side options that easily substitute for a meal. Â The truffle fries and the salads are great. Â Service is finely honed even if the atmosphere is a bit trite.
Review Source:If you truly like burgers and know how to order one properly, this is the place to go in Toledo. Â The build your own feature may be a little more expensive than the pre-configured burgers at other locals but it's worth it. Â They do have a little trouble hitting the 145 degree mark sometimes though. Â Try the pretzel bun and make sure you get the fried egg on your burger.... it's really messy but well worth the hassle!
The sides are nothing to brag about at all. Â The truffle oil french fries are very unique and good but everything else is kinda bland. Â Give the rest of them all a try just to say you did but you won't likely order many of them a second time.
The atmosphere is very trendy both in look/crowd. Â It is kid friendly (at least during the daytime and early dinner). Â Can't say that I would wait more than 15-20 minutes to eat here though. Â I'm giving this 4 stars because the burgers make up for the sides!
Oh, Bar 145, where to begin? Â Their food is DELICIOUS. Â If I was voting on food alone, I would give them five stars but this is for the overall experience. Â I made my own burger with beef, sharp cheddar, onion straws, pickles, lettuces, tomato, bbq sauce with an onion bun. Â It was the best burger bun I have ever had. Â I know that may sound strange but I've had some bad buns before. Â The meat was cooked just like I ordered, medium. Â The fries were good and came with a "fancy" sauce. Â My husband ordered the mac and cheese which left something to be desired. Â Overall, great meal.
Our waitress was extremely overloaded but made us feel at home and like "one of her friends". Â It was really nice and speedy service.
I wish I would have gone before 7 on a Saturday night. Â This place turns into a club after 7. Â To get a table, we waited an hour and a half after being told an hour. Â The bar area is crowded so there's no place to really stand and wait as there is no lobby either. Â Before our meal came, the lights dimmed to more a club lighting. Â The band was supposed to start at 10:30p but began tuning and warming up at about 8:30p. Â When we left at around 9:30, they were charging a COVER! FOR A RESTAURANT? Â I know it has "bar" in it's name and Doc Watson's charges covers too after a certain time but if your kitchen is still open, you shouldn't charge a cover. Â Bar 145's kitchen is open until 10p.
I will go again but for lunch, not dinner. Â Their food definitely warrants a second visit. Â As far as going to it as a bar for a drink, it's like a "classier" version of the Bier Stube. Â No thank you.
We pop in here now and then for lunch. Perhaps, that is why we haven't had the bad experiences others have regarding staffing issues and long waits!
The service:
Absolutely no problem with the service. They've always been prompt to take our order and bring us our burgers. Again, we're usually there at lunch so it isn't slammed.
The food:
I started off getting the turkey burger which was excellent but I've been getting burgers lately. Generally, the burger is cooked how I ordered it but I have had a little inconsistency here. It wasn't so bad that the burger was ruined...but it wasn't perfectly cooked.
This place is The Distillery for Sylvania, Ottawa Hills, Westfield Shoppers, yupsters, Cougars, and the flamboyant. Â One time I even saw some of those kids in colorful clothing, and white, flat-brimmed baseball caps. Â If this Jersey Shore/Bieber/high school crowd starts to be the norm I'll never come back. Â If you know The Distillery in the South End of Toledo then you know what to expect- except that everything at Bar 145 is just a little more refined when it comes to the look and feel of the place. Â
They have a great bar, and an atmosphere to match. Â It gets loud and crowded on the weekends, but this is to be expected with live bands and people on the prowl. Â
The food? Â It was good the first time, but got progressively worse the more times I dined there. Â You can create your own burgers with all kinds of toppings, and this is a nice twist; however, the burgers are just okay. Â The sides and appetizers are nothing to write home about either. Â They always try to push the pretzel wedges as an appetizer, and I found them to be dry, bland, and boring.
I have a feeling this place will be more known for its night life, than for its food. Â With this, I just hope it doesn't get run down and close like many bars in T-Town. Â This will depend on how they keep up their prices and quality so they can maintain the clientele (see above: Jersey Shore/Bieber/high school crowd)
The service? Â This also subtracted from my experiences. Â The girls who served us had kind of an attitude on a couple of occasions. Â One in particular seemed like she was annoyed at having to work, and would have rather been drinking with the crowd.
With all of this written, go to the Burger Bar for great burgers, and go to Bar 145 for a great bar (indoor and outdoor), with live music and fun atmosphere.
This is just your average place to eat. If anything, I would say it is on the pricey side for what you get. Bar 145 is said to be a 'burger bar' where you can create your own meal or go for one of their set burgers. Since I was having dinner there with a friend, I didn't want to waste time and create so I went for their blue-cheese burger. It was good - not great. The sandwich alone was about nine or ten dollars, and did not come with anything but the burger. Most places would give you fries with your meal, but if you want a side - be prepared to shell out a couple more bucks for a fairly small order of crispy string fries (which are pretty good).
From the points above, it probably sounds like I am just bashing the place. I don't hate it - just did not think it was better than your average burger place. I think you could honestly go down the way to the corner of Central and Secor and go to Five Guys and get a bigger burger and more fries than you can imagine for a little smaller dent in your pocket. While the qualities of the burgers, if put neck to neck, would favor Bar 145, I think the overall package serves Five Guys.
I have also gone to Bar 145 on a Friday night, and that is probably their mainstay (or at least it should be). The crowd was large, it was not your college crowd either. The people were of a professional nature, and the music was live and keeping people on their feet. The age of the crowd seemed to be everything from people in their mid to upper-20's to mid-50's. There is not a lot of seating around the place, and it seems like a lot of people want that as folks sit all around the bar. In this, when all the stools are taken it makes it quite tough to order a drink - not the end of the world, but it does make the whole bar idea a little tougher when you're 10 feet away from the edge of the bar trying to catch the bartender's eye to try and yell your order across 15 people between you.
Overall - go on a bar night for the best Bar 145 has to offer.
(Also, not all of the staff members know why it's called Bar 145. Just for a point of information, 145 apparently is the temperature most cooks would say makes the perfect burger.)
I went into this place really excited and I really, really wanted to like the place. But it turns out that a lot of the dishes didn't fit my taste buds- not that they weren't good, but just not prepared how I usually like my food.
Keeping with the build your own burger theme, all sides are a la cart- i.e. no free fries with your burger. A small sides of fries, fried green beans, and mac & gouda were $2 each (I think).
My friend got the Po' boy burger which he wasn't very impressed with. He asked for it to be cooked medium-well but it ended up being more like medium-rare. Not a big deal since he's not picky, but still.... if you ask for medium-well, it should be closer to well than it is to rare.
The fries were small, seasoned shoestring fries and while I love all types of fries, I like shoestring fries the least (I still eat them, but I usually prefer thicker fries)
The fried green beans came with some sweet sauce poured over them. I thought that both were good. But I'm not a fan of sweet and salty so had I known that sauce came on them, I would've asked for the sauce on the side.
The mac & gouda was not hot enough by the time I tried it so the cheese wasn't very melted. Â Plus it was a bit oily, which kind of reminded me of fettucini alfredo- which I am also not a fan of because of the oily taste. Â But the seasonings of the Mac & gouda were tasty.
Also, I ordered my build-a-burger with a fried egg on top. Â Turns out that the fried egg is served sunny side up- which is my least favorite way to eat an egg.
So as you can see, the things that I didn't like aren't necessarily bad things, but just opposite of what my taste buds like. Â I just know that if I come here again to ask for sauces on the side and fully cooked eggs/burgers.
For the appetizer, the pretzel & melted Gouda tasted very similar to spinach artichoke dip. The pretzel bread was soft and yummy.
I really like the build a burger option because you can get what you want, but it can get pretty pricey depending on how many items you put on. For example, you pay $1 for any cheese. And only 3 toppings are included so if you like pickles, tomatoes, lettuce and onions on your burger, you're already having to pay extra. Not to mention any other additives like fried eggs, avocados, etc. But the concept is great because you get what you want as long as you're willing to pay for it.
Plus, the service was great. The host was really nice and even stopped by our table to see if we liked our meals. And we had a really nice, bubbly waitress. She was really great at bringing refills for our drinks and offered to take the meals back cause she could tell it wasn't exactly what we were expecting. But I hate sending things back so we didn't. But I give them points for their willingness to get things right!
The end verdict is that this is a great burger place but the bill can easily add up if you get appetizers and sides and a lot of toppings on your burger.
I know that reading this review, people are going to think that I don't like this place but that's not true! I actually really liked it here! I just think that I'll have to figure out the menu so that when I come again, I'll be able to get what I like.
NOTE: When they bring out the burgers, ask them what burger is what. They just placed the burgers in front of each of us and we assumed it was our burger without even noticing. But turns out that they switched our burgers. Â The funny thing is that I kept looking enviously at my friends burger thinking, 'wow his burger has everything I like.' Turns out it was because it WAS everything I liked!
I have been looking forward to trying Bar 145 since I first heard about it recently, and today I went for lunch. The place itself is not huge, but the atmosphere was comfortable and the staff was friendly and accommodating. I found the menu to be creative and interesting, and the food was delicious. In addition to the regular menu, there is a create-your-own burger menu, where you can choose from a list of different cheeses, sauces, and toppings. I ordered off the regular menu, but I plan to try the create-your-own on another visit. There are different types of live music featured in the evenings, which I would also like to check out on a future visit. I definitely enjoyed this place and plan to return soon!
Review Source:Being from California, I really didnt expect much when i went to Toledo; but i was pleasantly suprised by this bar. Moder, crowded, live music and a good crowd. Different crowd than the one you see walking around the malls! haha
We came one night and there was a live band which was actually fun to listen to! Then came on the weekend when it was a lot busier, but got a seat at the bar and had a very nice bartender at our service!
Thanks for making my visit to Toledo not horribly boring! :)
This review is for Bar 145 after-hours (aka, not a food review). I went there with a big group. I loved that from the moment we walked in, we were able to buy beer (literally, right in the doorway). It was nice not having to wait in line for the first drink at the bar. We were there to see Empire Drift (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fempiredrift.com&s=0538b1b629cf439dbc09b7f1c8d647590b399bf27c7f5c8a4ceacbebd62ec3cc" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://empiredrift.com</a>) and a $5 cover was very reasonable for such a great band! Awesome atmosphere (dancing is encouraged), reasonable drink prices, and good bar service. Only con... the bathroom was totally  trashed (to be expected in Toledo bars, I guess). I'll definitely go back!
Review Source:I've dined at Bar 145 twice now and it may be awhile before I return again.
The first experience was during their first week of being open, so I naturally expected some things not be up to par. The decor is great, it feels very open and contemporary. We were not greeted upon walking in and it took a few minutes for the server to stop by our table.
Upon looking at the menu, I was intrigued by the "build your own burger" style. Closer examination of the items confused me a little. I dine out often, and cook frequently and I had no idea what more than half of the cheeses or breads were. The menu offers no descriptions for any of these cheeses or breads.
The waitress stopped back and I inquired about some of the breads and cheeses and got the "I'm not real sure, its only my second day." Well ok, understandable, they just opened. I just winged it and took a gamble.
Once the burger came out, it appears small, the presentation of the food was wonderful, but the beef patty was small.
For a beer, burger, and side of fries it was $19 before tip. This was very  overpriced for the food that I received during the first visit.
My 2nd visit was just a week ago. Two of my best friends were in town and we decided to meet up there for lunch at 11am (when they opened). We were greeted this time upon entering but the entire place just felt off. Most of the staff was still performing opening duties (taking chairs down, turning tvs on, and vacuuming.) This didn't really bother me except for the fact that the vacuuming continued well over 30 minutes into our dining experience.
I was still curious about the breads and cheeses so I inquired again. This time I got "do you like goat cheese?" I replied no, then she said "Well you wont like any of these 4 cheeses then." Really? Thats not much of an explanation. If your not going to train the waitresses about the different types of breads, cheeses and other menu items, then please place a description on the menu.
When the food came out, the burger was much larger than the one I had during the first visit. It was tasty, but over cooked for what I selected. I selected the 145 (medium rare temp) and the center of the burger was not pink at all.
My final gripe, was I attempted to use a $2 off coupon from <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftoledosnightout.com&s=d3c5752d190550271ed48ea073d09194b162fdef0e9f474a10f71e91d0db9734" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://toledosnightout.c…</a>. I pulled the coupon up and clicked download on my phone. I showed it to the waitress, she had never seen the coupon before but said "I'm sure I can take it off, I'm just not sure how." A few minutes later she returned and said "No, I'm sorry, I asked the owner and he said you have to print it out and bring it in. Really? Its $2 and your a newer business. I own a business and I would never turn away a coupon, especially a small $2 coupon.
To sum it up, I generally received poor service, and the food is overpriced. Its a good burger, but at $14 it should be amazing. I probably wont be returning anytime soon, and probably won't be recommending it to friends or my customers that come into my business (just 1/4 mile from Bar 145).
First off, the decor is wonderful. I definitely felt like I had stepped into a "big city" restaurant. Â
As for the food, I liked the option of building my own burger. Two other people at my table also ordered burgers. All three of us ordered Medium Well. They came out Medium. Â Not a huge complaint, as all three of us will eat a burger at almost any temp, but considering that we requested Medium-Well, it should have been cooked as such.
The bun was very flavorful and fresh, and I liked the toppings I chose. Unfortunately, the burger tasted... like a burger. I don't know if there was a lack of seasoning, or if I've gotten too used to eating buffalo, but from the first bite, I wasn't too overly impressed. I may try a different patty option if I return.
The fries were seasoned well, not not too greasy. My side salad was a little tricky to eat due to the shape of the bowl. Or maybe I'm a little klutzy when it comes to eating salads!
I am willing to give it another try, as I did enjoy some of the components and the atmosphere.
Meh is right. Let's break it down:
Pros:
-Potato waffle, shared by our table of 4, was pretty tasty.
-Lots of different options for your burger
Cons:
-I had to imitate a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man to get our waitress to come to our table. She'd walk up, hear one request, like a glass of water, and then walk away before seeing if anyone else needed anything. We had to call her back about 6 times.
-I ordered my burger medium rare. It came out medium well. If you're a burger joint, you better get the burger temp correct. Just sayin.
-A burger should come with fries (or at least chips) without having to charge extra. $2 for a side? Ridic.
-Speaking of sides, I got the fries. They were greasy, not cooked long enough and tiny. Pretty gross. A friend got the mac n cheese. She said it was dry.
-The pretzel bun was not very fresh.
-Despite the overcooked patty and the stale bun, my toppings were tasty, but they should be since I picked them. I was disappointed in the lack of number and creativity of preselected burgers. Can't your chefs come up with anything better?
-Friend's chicken sandwich was "just OK."
I guess Bar 145 is the new "cool" place to hang out in Toledo. Hope something new comes along soon.
I've been to Bar 145 three times now, the first time the food was great and each time it continues to get better. Â Each time I've done the "build your own burger" with different combinations that turn out great. Â The smoked salmon and garlic flatbread appetizer is also pretty amazing.
I'd probably give this place higher marks if the interior and crowd didn't annoy the hell out of me. Â Bar 145 looks great from the outside and the bar area is nice, as is the patio. Â The interior is wide open (see "faux industrial") with nothing to stop the sound from echoing around. Â As it gets more crowded at night you'll find yourself screaming at the person next to you - and that's before the band starts to play. Â The crowd is mixed dependent on the night but in the evening you'll generally see your fair share of suburban divorcees hungrily eyeing one another, with some Jersey Shore wannabes thrown in the mix. Â Not my kinda thing but it won't stop me from going, especially for lunch.
Searching for something new to try, and after hearing good things from a couple of friends, we decided to head to Bar 145. Seems like everyone is talking about this new place.
I was leary in heading there, as I hate to wait to be seated, but we got right in on a Thursday evening. We decided to sit at the bar, as there appeared to be a wait if we chose to sit at a table. It looked like the seating was not very efficient as it appeared all they have were tables and booths for four. We noticed a lot of unused seats as they're forced to sit a group of two at a table for four.
Beer selection was okay, nothing really stellar. Our burgers came cooked perfectly, except mine was not spruced up exactly as ordered (they added a topping I didn't request, and omitted one I had requested).
Between the two of us we had two beers (@ $6.50/beer for Goose Island, which I thought was way over priced), a mixed drink, two burgers, and fries, and our bill came out to $55 (without tip). I feel it was a little steep for what we got. In my opinion, "fancy" and "burgers" don't really go together.
I can now say that I went there, but would probably not go back.
Very excited to have a high end burger joint like this in Toledo! The bartender was friendly, they had a very good beer selection, and the decor is very cool. My burger was on the small side for the price, but it was very tasty and filling. The bun melts in your mouth which is a total plus. I thought the the appetizers were very ok (we tried the mac and cheese and the potato waffles) and the fries were the same. I would like to come and eat here again after they have been opened for a little longer. I think Bar 145 is probably an awesome place to see a band play or to go for a drink at night.
Review Source:I still can't believe a place like this has opened in Toledo. A great atmosphere, beer selection, menu, music, decor, etc. I fear this place won't make it long with Toledoans reluctance to try anything that isn't a chain restaurant. I'm doing my part and so should all of you area Yelpers out there in the Glass City.
As a side-note, the burger I had my eyes on from the second I read the menu online months ago was the Benedict Burger. Alas, it is no longer on the menu. Having said that, there are plenty of other burgers to satisfy your cravings.
OK, perhaps I'm just not as inclined to be as rough on a place that, relatively speaking, just opened, or maybe I just had a pretty good time.
It wasn't perfect, but was definitely tasty, and I'll be back. Service was a little slow, but we were there when they were packed, on a Friday night. There was live music, which with the acoustics of the place meant for a very loud dining experience - but again, that's perhaps what they're going for. Next time, I'll probably just try to go a bit earlier in the night, and sit somewhere farther from the band. ;)
Food: was really rather good! I was worried, given the other reviews, but my burger was a perfect medium rare, though a little cooler than I'd have liked. The pretzel roll was wonderful, and grilled, which made it nicely crispy. The garlic aoili was good, though *really* garlicky, so almost overpowered things - next time, I'll probably skip it and go with a different condiment. With a burger, you have the option of small portions of some of their appetizers for $2/ea, which is nice - I got the tempura pickled green beans, which were awesome, and a perfectly respectable side salad for $3. I snacked on one of my companion's fries, and they were also very good, with a nice ?red pepper aoili? dipping sauce.
As far as expensive, it really wasn't too bad - for my burger, plus salad and side, plus coffee w/ Bailey's, it was an even $20, which ain't bad at all. Especially given that it's Niman ranch beef, which is some damn fine stuff. :)
Also, it is a really nicely designed place, open & airy, with a nice ambience.
Check them out - it's worth it.
The burgers were small, and the menu was confusing. I was hoping there would be more specialty selections on the menu, but we decided to make our own instead. Our burgers were ok, but for the price, they were totally unacceptable. Definitely not the best burger I've had in Toledo.
I was expecting a lot more from this restaurant. It was more like a sports bar on the inside than anything else, but the patio seating was nice. We had multiple waitresses check on us, but our food still took longer than I expected.
Overall, the food was too pricey. We might go back if this place stays in business a few months from now. Don't get the potato waffle. We were looking forward to this, but it was sweet and not very good because they use waffle batter. Yuck!
I really, really wanted to like this place.
The menu looked so awesome. Novel, exotic, and local toppings: what could go wrong?
Simply put: everything.
There is a REASON why they don't list the weight of the burgers before cooking, and that is the burgers are super small. I ordered mine at 145 degrees but I usually order my burger well done, but the menu essentially guilts you into ordering it at a lower temp. Well, it came out well done anyway, but that wasn't a problem for me.
For me the problem was that they dress the burger with the smallest portion of each topping you select. I wasn't even sure if everything I ordered came on it. The worst crime of all was that the bun was bigger than the burger.
The pretzel chips were pretty good but the waitress acted like she had never waited tables before.
The waffle was disgusting! It was one of the things I was most looking forward to trying. It tasted sweet. The waitress explained that instead of using baked potato, they include waffle batter. Absolutely disgusting.
I remember when Table 44 opened. They had some serious issues which I am happy to report they have worked out. We MIGHT try this restaurant again, but that seems very unlikely. Table 44's problems were nothing compared to this.
Two sodas, pretzel chips, two burgers: $42+.
I'll pay that if everything is near perfect. It's nowhere close.
