Had a Groupon. Now I know why... Average food. Fish and chips were good. Decided to try something new. Yeungling battered shrimp. Thought I would have some nice butterflied shrimp with sauce. Oh no... It was like the mall food court shrimp swimming in nasty sweet and sour. Very disappointed!
Review Source:In super short - decent. Maybe good. Not great.
This review is strictly on the bar. I know it probably should be on the whole institution, Â but I honestly haven't sat down to eat - partially because of the bar alone. I mean, c'mon now - you're trying to copy an Irish pub in Toledo, Ohio - do it the right way.
My background - being born in England (sure, not Ireland, but close), I've been to college and may have had a legitimate beer, and I've traveled to Dublin a few times as well. When you walk in, you can feel the Irish nature the place. I would not say it's your true every-day Irish pub, but it's pretty close.
Everyone has a different experience, so maybe I've just had poor bartenders, but the first time I went I had someone take my order while talking to a friend. Then when they surprisingly got my order wrong and I didn't like what I didn't order, they got a little moody. The second time was St. Patty's day. I figure that with Claddagh being an Irish pub, you would have big things happening. When I got here, I paid $10 to get into the door but only to find an empty bar. There were clusters of people, but nothing that was mind-blowing. I don't mind paying $10, but at what point do you take down the cover charge and just let people in?
All in all, I want to like Claddagh, but I'm not going to give it to them. I think it's poor taste if you give a location a low rating because they aren't as good as another locale, but if you're looking for another Irish pub/bar - go to Blarney or Bunker.
I hope my experience is unique and the next time I don't have big bar battle.
