Love the location! (Right on the beach) This is a great bar for military or non military. If you have military ID or your Hale Koa card you get cheaper drink prices.

Drinks are strong and taste good!

The best bar around. You have the beach and the trees and the bartenders are the greatest. They are just a bunch of awesome people that look out for you above and beyond. They all deserve raises. ( I had to try).
The TV's on the other hand are just not the thing you want to look at when you are on vacation.. I get why they are there but I can get that at home.
All in all a great experience and will be seeing it again soon.
Mahalo.

I've been here twice now and had good experiences each time. As others have mentioned, the bartenders didn't exactly smile and try to start a conversation with me, but that isn't the reason I went. The mai tais are good...especially with the military discount and for being in Waikiki. Nice view of the ocean too. Will return.

Location, location, location. The Barefoot bar has a great view of the water. On Friday nights this is in my opinion the BEST place to watch the fireworks in Waikiki. There is always some sort of live entertainment going on, and it is always free of charge. The two stars I rated are for this paragraph only.

This used to be a great bar for military and non-military vacationers. A few months ago they changed the pricing. Everything went up $4, but you get $2 off if you have a military ID. They used to have a great Happy Hour every night as well, with $4 drinks. That is gone too. That being said, the drinks are not bad. They have one of my favorite Mojitos on the Island. I have never felt like I have been cheated on my alcohol here. I would come more frequently if not for the fact I can walk a little further up the beach and get better prices.

The service is pretty poor here. The waitresses are atrocious. They are unattentive, unattractive, and unfriendly. If one will stop and take your order, expect to wait 20 minutes until you see her again. The best course of action is to just go to the Bar. There is an order station on both sides and they move pretty fast.

You can't beat the view, but there are better prices and much better service to be had nearby.

My Navy buddy told me this was the best bar on the Waikiki Beach Water front, very laid back, not touristy mainly because this is a Navy facility that the bar is open to the public. Let me be more specific why it's the best bar, best prices for drinks, even for the public. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village next door, but liked coming here for drinks instead. I liked it because if you want a more laid back atmosphere and still the view of the ocean, this is the place to kick back at sunset, there is even live music.

If I could see the job requirements for the Barefoot Bar, I would guess they are:

Applicants MUST:
1. Be above the age of 40
2. Hate smiling
3. Move as slowly as possible
4. Ignore customers, help whoever you'd like at your own pace
5. Be great at making weak drinks.

OK, my joking aside - I can honestly say this bar was a joke. We were SO excited to hang out here, as the location is amazing, and we were staying at the Hale Koa. However, the bar staff were rude, had no personality and was so slow. They would walk right by us, multiple times, staring at the ground. We would great them: "Hi sir! How are you today?!" And we'd get a grunt in reply, if we were lucky. The worst part is, this was day, after day - until we finally quit going there (we thought maybe we just came on an off day. Nope. This was normal day in and day out). We started going to the Shorebird everyday instead - and had a blast there. Barefoot Bar, we were really bummed at your service - and don't plan on ever going back in our future visits.

Best price for Mai Tais and other delicious drinks, with a great location (right on Waikiki Beach). There are definitely perks to being military at times.

I've been here several times... for happy hour to going away parties to birthday parties.

It's located on the beach side of Hale Koa hotel. Parking can be a bit daunting since its in Waikiki.

I have no complaints with The Barefoot Bar. The service has been great and the drinks are delicious. There's always table and chairs to accomodate any size of the group. I think its a place to just go for some good drinks and enjoy the beach.

It's not the greatest place in the world, but it does its job.. which is to provide you with drinks and a nice view.

I attended a wedding held at the Hale Koa Hotel. After the festivities had ended, a few friends wanted to grab a drink nearby. I pulled off my bridesmaid dress and walked though the lobby to find this little oasis nestled near the pool.

After a long day of wearing taffeta, it felt nice to kick off my heels and enjoy a plastic cup of Chardonnay. They don't have wine glasses here, so this may not be a great choice for people who want a fanciful evening. It's a pool bar. Don't get huffy and enjoy your Solo Chardonnay!

The drinks are quite good here (we ordered mai tais, a bloody mary and pina coladas) and the prices are reasonable for Waikiki. The location is great and food is available at the snack bar next door. A bar right on the beach is never a bad thing! The people-watching is top-notch as well.

The staff range from wonderfully accommodating to brusque or borderline rude. Confusing, really but overall it's a place that's worth visiting.

The ONLY reason for 2 stars instead of one is because of the variety of drinks and the one drink I had was delicious.

No one is going to give a rip and do anything about my complaint, so I didn't bother telling anyone there, but here it goes.

I was meeting a friend at the pool and this was the first time I have ever been to the pool there. After about 20 minutes in my chair, I see a woman walking around holding an order pad, so I said, "Can I place orders out here?" And she RUDELY and flatly responded, "That's why I'm here." I said, "Sorry, I didn't know... never mind then." And she turns away, never to be seen again. EFFING B. Seriously?!?! THAT'S how you treat guests at your pool/bar/hotel? Absolutely disgusting! "That's why I'm here." Well I'm here to pay for good drinks and nice ambiance, not to have you basically insinuating you hate your job and your life to your customers. We all have bad days, but really lady?! Even the women next to me who I didn't know commented on her rudeness and how she clearly didn't want a tip.

When my friend got there we went up to the bar instead. No big deal. They have one menu, and it's taped to the counter, so you can't even see what your options are until it's your turn to order. The 2 men were very abrupt and annoyed we needed a second to look at the menu. I got a Koala Bear and it was really good, but while waiting on our drinks, another bar tender said, "WHILE YOU'RE WAITING LET ME OUT." I couldn't understand what he was saying because it was loud and he repeated himself and just opened up the counter and pushed open a door we were standing in front of. Crappy placement for your menu if you want your bartenders to leave through there.

I'll be back in a few weeks because we are staying at the hotel for sub ball... and they better change their tune or this will be updated to 1 star.

My cousin was staying here with her friend, so I wanted to stop by and have a drink with her on the beach. Especially since we were both vacationing in Hawaii at the same time.

Service was sooooooooooo slow! Wasn't even busy on the patio. Took 20 minutes to get the first round of drinks, and another 15 minutes by the time I put my order in. I didn't even bother to order a second one.

It's too bad, I really wanted to enjoy it here. The location is perfect, and has such a great view of the beach.

Coming off of a disappointing Mai Tai from House without a Key, Barefoot Bar's Mai Tai put a smile on my face. It was smooth, citrusy, fruity all in a delicious way for $7.50 a serving (for military, $9 for general public).

The waiters wont serve food, but there are two snack bars available behind the bar. The snack bar closer to the bar has nachos, hot dogs and chips. The one further behind the bar had burgers and other more substantial fare.

Sad they don't have better deals, but with oceanside views and decent music, still a great place to get drinks.

One of the travel books we got recommended this bar. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village right next to Hale Koa (military hotel) and we ended up getting drinks a lot from here. You don't need a military id to drink here and the drinks are the cheapest you'll find on Waikiki beach. The bar is right on the beach so you can have a couple drinks and enjoy looking at the ocean at the same time.

The waiters and waitresses are very friendly and will bring your drinks to you pretty quickly.

Perfect place to stop when you want a reasonably priced drink when you're hanging out on Waikiki beach.

I always have a good time at the Barefoot Bar (when I can find a seat). The location is great. Right on the beach of Waikiki isn't shabby. The drink prices are high, as I've found with every resort in Waikiki. They are not particularly generous sizes, but they are tasty. The Barefoot Bar is a great place to watch the fireworks Hilton Hawaiian Village puts on every Friday night. Just be early (about an hour before the fireworks), this place gets packed with people squatting for a good view of the show.

First of all, you do NOT need to have a military ID to enjoy this bar on the beach! We moved to the island a month ago and have enjoyed a few awesome mai tai's at this location already. If you do happen to have a military ID (active or dependent), you get a drink discount.

As far as food goes, you must get up and go to the snack bar that is maybe 30 feet away from the bar to pick up some nachos, a salad, hot dog, etc. This is a place to have drinks, not to eat. There are MANY other restaurants on Waikiki beach for that.

If you want to get off the beach right before the sunset to enjoy a cocktail AND watch the amazing view, this is where you want to be!!!

The waitstaff is limited, but the bar isn't too busy for you to walk up and grab your own drinks. If you are concerned about your server not coming back for awhile, then order yourself more than one drink! It's not rocket science people. Stop complaning...you are in HAWAII!!!

What a great bar for sipping some drinks and sitting in the sun. The Barefoot Bar is located right on the beach at The Hale Koa Hotel. The drinks are very inexpensive for Waikiki and the Mai Tais were very strong. The bartenders and waitresses could use a few lessons in customer service, but they seem to be very busy on a regular basis, so it is understandable why they may not be in the most pleasant moods. I would definitely recommend The Barefoot Bar for some beach or pool drinks while in Waikiki.

If you want that "I'M IN HAWAII" bar feeling then the barefoot is the place to be!! Situated right next the big resort pool as well as the mighty Pacific ocean you simply can't beat this beach bar. Period!

Add to that, the bartenders were so cool and laid-back that it just made the whole drunkfest one to remember (or possibly not?) I remember ;-)

My favorite place to get my drink on along Waikiki Beach. Cheapest prices in the area if you present your CAC card as it is part of the Hale Koa Resort which is exclusively for Uniformed Service members, retirees, and civilian employees of DOD. They have one of the best and strongest Mai Tais around and a good selection of tap beers including Kona Brewing Co. favorites. Live music in the evenings and a terrific crowd of fellow service members, retirees and the public is welcome now as well, drinks are just a couple bucks more for civilians.

Great view from the bar!! The bar is virtually on the beach and is ultra casual. Bathing suits & bikinis.

Stopped in for a bite & cocktail, but never saw a menu. The service staff paid little to no attention to me. I never saw a food menu and was never offered one. Refill came eventually. Bartenders (2) were very slow and barely attentive to the 8 people sitting around the bar.

My two Blue Hawaiians were very tasty and served with pineapple wedges.

I'll reiterate, the beach & ocean view from the bar was great. It was very Hawaiian.

One of my all time favorite bars to come too! Kiddies & hubby love coming to the pool and me I can just watch them sipping in my Lava Flow (best ever)! The prices are reasonable and the service, it varies from each time we go. Sometimes it rocks and the server is able to refil my drink on time and others I have either flag them down or go straight to the bar. The bar opens at 11am which is perfect timing cause its hot and my drink just cools me down.

The GOOD: This bar is good only for people watching. The music is so-so, and every now and then it's surprisingly decent.

The BAD: Service is horribly slow. For example, last weekend a friend and I decided to pop over for a couple of quick drinks. Ha! Not only did it take Winnie, our "waitress" 18 minutes to bring us back change (after we'd already been there well over an hour waiting on just one drink a person), but she was also "waiting" (it has new meaning since we were the ones waiting on her) on four other tables at the same time and wouldn't assist one without also serving the others at the exact same time. When she finally brought our drinks, she had about 10 other drinks on her tray. Several times I got up to check to make sure she was still there and bringing our drinks and I even went to the snack bar because I wasn't getting service on the patio and I was dying of thirst.

The UGLY: I've said it once before and I'll repeat it--Barefoot can't get their act together when it comes to pets on the patio. I've gone and been served multiple times with my dog in the past, but it was only when I was with another active-duty female rather than a male friend that I was told I would not be served with my dog there. Unbelievable, illegal discrimination, and quite a shame. I've had innumerable tourists ask to pet my dog, which turns into a pet conversation. Whatever bogus reason the Hale Koa will give for arbitrarily enforcing whatever unwritten policy they might or might not have, it's bull.

For the price and service, you'd do better to walk a few feet away from Diamondhead to the Hilton for real entertainment, better atmosphere, and better service at the same price.

Ok happy hour menu. The service was ok as well. I'm sure there are probably better and worse bars on beach. The most redeeming factor of this bar is that it is RIGHT on the beach.

Overall a good bar if you are looking to just chill next to the beach and drink tropical beverages. However, because of the limited selection of tropical drinks on the happy hour menu the average service I only gave 3 starts.

Ah, The Barefoot Bar! The Hale Koa's pool and beachside bar is a fantastic place to relax under umbrellas with sweet tropical drinks and live music (well, they don't have live music all the time but when they do, it's usually very nice and relaxing).

The service at the tables are sometimes hit or miss but for the most part the servers are polite and helpful. The bar is also very consistent with the drink making. I love their mojitos in particular and if you've got guests in town or are staying in Waikiki and want something a little less hectic than Duke's but just as close to the water, I'd highly recommend Barefoot Bar as tropical alternative. They have a wide variety of tropical and other mixed drinks and the beers are pretty amazingly priced, too ($6.25 for a 22 oz in Waikiki!)

The bar itself doesn't offer food but there is a very competitively priced snack bar nearby that sells sandwiches, fries, chips, salads, drinks etc. (There's also a larger snack bar like stop just outside of the pool area but unless you're a hotel guest and/or in the military, I'm fairly certain you can't purchase anything from it).

The bar is located at the Hale Koa so it's probably worth noting that unless you or someone in your group is in the military and/or staying at the hotel, you won't be able to purchase food or other items from some of the stores/snack bars on site. But you can certainly have drinks at the bar and order food from the pool snack bar.

Overall, though, this is one of my favorite relaxing stops in any Waikiki bar hop or for a relaxing drink after bbq-ing at DeRussy and I highly recommend it.

If you're heading downtown Waikiki area, this bar is a MUST to stop by at! Even if you're not military, give it a try! Located on the beach behind the Hale Koa hotel is a well placed bar for your EVERY DAY brew. This bar has everything you need to include your "what's on tap" to the making it a "Tequila" night. There's a small food shack right beside the bar as well in case you get the munchies.
Bar opens at 11am, which is perfect as the sun gets hotter. They host all types of different entertainers here, but mostly single instrument players with a beat box next to them.
LAVA FLOW!! You must try this drink! Forget about a mai tai on the beach, this little mixer will get you feeling right and cool you down.
Parking here is easy. Located right across the street are 2 parking areas for the Hale Koa. It's probably the cheapest you can find in Waikiki.
The bar tenders are very well "aged" for their knowledge of mixing drinks and getting you what you need.
I DO NOT recommend sitting down and relying on the waitress to get your drinks if they are busy. I hate to say it, but they bop their heads to their iPod and gossip at the bar while you look at them with dehydration on your face. Once it took them almost 15 minutes to notice that I was even there and the trash left behind was not mine. Regardless if it was....the cup was empty so FILL IT UP!!! (My only compliant)
Get yourself here on Friday night and your in perfect location to watch the fireworks from next door after getting a breath taking view of the sunset.

Oh yeah....is it good for dancing YELP asks? Answer: If your drunk enough it is!!
So get out your shades and put on some sun block
the Barefoot Bar is your home bar to unwind and kick off your shoes!

Great atmosphere and close by if you're staying in the Hale Koa. Drink prices are good for Waikiki beach but still a little pricey. They often have live entertainment which ranges from average to excellent.

This is pretty much our starting place for any night on the town in Waikiki. If you are disappointed, just remember you're in Hawaii and the feeling will soon pass :)

Very basic pool bar in the area of the Fort DeRussy Beach Complex. Tons if military folk and their kids cramming into pools when the beautiful Pacific Ocean is just steps away.

Motivated to get my parking validation and ended up having a beer & decent bloody Mary. Twist my arm, right? Once the alcohol kicked in, my throbbing beach volleyball ankle sprain didn't seem so bad. Well, until I had to walk to my car. Parking validated, so pretty much mission accomplished (and then some).

Mixed drinks are pretty good. The "itch" is pretty strong. There is waiter service. The live music is pretty dated.

It's a very casual atmosphere.

Super casual bar right on Waikiki beach line. Drinks are cheaper than at the Hilton Village, and are of acceptable quality.

There is no waiter service, so you need to go up to the bar and order/grab your own drinks. No bar menu either, however the shack in the back offers hot dogs, shaved ice, nachos, etc.

Live music in a form of a guy with guitar that covers a multitude of songs from many eras.

What's not to like about this place? It's an outdoor bar on the beach on the edge of Waikiki.

The beer and spirit selection is okay and the wine selection can't really be called a selection ;-)

Everything is served in a plastic cup likely due to the proximity of the pool and beach.

Although the prices are slightly below the Waikiki hotel average they are still kind of high. It doesn't seem that bad though when you add in the beautiful sunset view and live music.

I love this bar!! It's a little expensive but it's the best beach front bar I've ever been to on island.

On our mini-vacation I had a couple drinks here. My favorite had banana, coconut and baileys and it was blended into a shake like consitancy. It was delicious.

My favorite bar of this bar is that if you don't feel like drinking on the beach front they have 2 other bars in the hotel that you can choose from that serve the same drinks.

The only problem I had with this bar was the prices. But you can't expect better for being a bar in Waikiki. If your staying at the Hale Koa I suggest you come here for a Mai Tai, a Bloody Mary or even a long board!

*sigh* I have a love/hate relationship with this bar. First off, it's in the Hale Koa hotel beachfront, which is a military only hotel, so you must be with someone in the military or someone with a military ID.

I love the idea of the bar. It is set facing Fort Derussy beach, which in my opinion is the most cleanest, and nicest beach on Waikiki. The view of the ocean is calming and the atmosphere is sublime. On the other hand, the three times I have been here, we were either ignored by the waitress or got our drinks immediately upon sitting down and then ignored for the rest of the day. The service is horrible. Most of the waitresses appear to be in another world, saw one texting on her phone all day, and another was walking around listening to her iPod.

The bartenders, however, are very friendly if you sit at the bar. (We were forced to get off our butts and move to the bar to get a damn drink since we waited for service for 10 mins at our table.) They laugh and have conversation with you. They also pour pretty stiff drinks.

Scenery, drinks, great bartenders, chill environment yay! Crappy service - meh!

This is home to the World's BEST MAI TAI, trust me, ive checked!

I love the Barefoot Bar and have been coming here for many years. I have grown up with the Barefoot Bar. No, I do not mean that in an illegal way. Every time my family from the mainlain visits, they always stay at the Hale Koa. We always spend days at the wonderful Hale Koa Pool. And since I've been 21...I have been sipping on awesome Mai Tai's everytime I come even close to this bar.

The drinks are very reasonably priced and strong. The Mai Tai is really the way to go though! Fresh pineapple and those yummy maraschino cherries with a cute little umbrella are accompanied on top of each "tropical" drink.

I love the view of this relaxing bar and its nice to just chill out and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii. I can't say I would just come here on a Friday night with the intentions of only coming here, however. I would consider this a afternoon/happy hour kind of place or a pregame kind of place.

The Barefoot Bar is located at Hale Koa, the resort property where military personnel stay when in Honolulu, so be sure you have military ID, or w/ someone who has one.

I wanted to order a Dark & Stormy, but the bar doesn't stock ginger beer, so I asked for a Sidecar, but it doesn't offer cognac, either, so I went w/ a mojito. http://www.yelp.com/biz_… Not bad. Can't tell you how much it was-- probably around $6 to $8.

Probably wouldn't go back again, since I don't carry a military ID, and I'd rather find a bar that carries a wider selection of alcohol. I probably should've tried a mai tai...

Not my first choice in Waikiki, but it works! The drinks are some of the cheapest in Waikiki. I know of some other places, but not this close to the beach!

The bartenders have been working here forever, and they move at that pace too! If it is busy, don't try to belly-up to the bar! Nope, you got to wait in line. Haha, it's a military bar.

You will see a bunch of "grunts" here getting wasted. You will see old men talking about "war stories" and the old times! It is easy to make some new friends here.

The bar is very cheesy! Nothing special. Just cheap uncomfortable beach chairs and tables that seem to blow over with strong winds.

Expect to listen to rock music over their speakers. They do have a musician that starts around 5pm that plays all kinds of music. Ewww, country!!!

The public is invited to the bar, the pool snack bar and this other food establishment called Happy's.

Overall, the place is cool. Oh, by the way, the Mai Tai is decent.

One of my favorite bars in Waikiki. Great mai tais for the price, laid back atmosphere, low key. Their other drinks are quite good as well, but I really just stick to the cheap mai tais. :-)

I wouldn't quite call it a "dive bar" per se - but maybe because I work for a military organization and the folks here don't really stand out to me at all as being "different".

I've gone with local friends who also enjoy the prices and atmosphere...always a good time.

When you were younger did you ever fantasize about being in the movie 'Top Gun'?

Is the soundtrack for your life the Kenny Loggins tune "Danger Zone?"

"Revvin' up your engine listen to her howlin' roar,
Metal under tension beggin' you to touch and go,
Highway to the Danger Zone! Ride into the Danger Zone!"

Well the other night I partied with Maverick and Goose at the Barefoot Bar. Tucked away pool side and right on the beach at the Hale Koa Hotel, the Barefoot Bar is like traveling to another dimension...called the Danger Zone! My BF and I went to the Barefoot Bar for a going away party for one of his high school friends who was moving to South Carolina with her Air Force pilot boyfriend. I actually don't know for sure if he was a pilot but doesn't that sound really sexy? Wouldn't it be awesome if his name was Iceman? If you're a girl you know that you secretly had a thing for Val Kilmer!

As the BB is located in a military resort you will be hanging out with guys who are wearing the worst aloha shirts ever made. I'm talking red aloha shirts with flags and eagles, no lie, I saw it myself. I thought I was going to go blind from the tackiness, but I'm happy to report that my eye sight returned after three beers. On this particular night there was a live band playing cheesy covers but everyone was having an amazing time! People of all ages were dancing and it's always delightful to see drunk three year olds dancing with their moms.

If you're worried about parking in Waikiki you can park in the Hale Koa parking structure across the street from the hotel and it's $3 (for 3 hours) if you validate at the bar. Enjoy your ride into the Danger Zone!
