Sorry, usually great experience. We went in two people asked for a booth. Only waited less than two minutes for a table. The bad part they didn't clean it just took the plates away. Moving crumbs I let it go. The waiter said be right back with cornbread still waiting for that maybe when the corn ripens on the stalk. Out food came really fast but no one would stop to get us silverware. So I went to get it myself while two servers chatted with each other and never came to apologize. I made it thru with one check in from the waiter as he breezed by not really stopping. No drink refills. Couldn't get another waiters attention. So I went to the drink station and passed my waiter with my cup in hand. Passed me by not a word so I went behind the curtain and helped myself. Never saw him again til he dropped the check off. Man chin would never have let that happen. O well.
Review Source:Unexpectedly great BBQ. I had the pulled pork (it doesn't come with any sauce on it and doesn't need it). It was perfectly done. I wasn't big on the creamed corn because it tasted a bit too much like artificial cheese.
I'm giving it 4 stars for the ambience and the price. It seems like a great place to bring a big group or hang out in the bar but I wasn't a fan of the decor and huge amount of space/tables.
We went here with reservations for 25 people and they set us up in the back room. Â There was darts for the younger kids to play and a big tv on with sports.
The staff was super friendly, the menu had something for everything. Â Being a little weary of having a menu full of ribs and pulled pork I was pleasantly surprised with an arugala salad with apple and parm and a broiled crab cake.
There is def something for everyone. Â We had delicious kona beer that had a hint of coconut and they also had an extensive bourbon collection and I choose the pappy van winkle 20 year which was a special treat!
During football season this year stopped in to catch a game.....glad I did.....the special during the game in the bar was great $3.00 items..... that's less then a gallon of gas here in LSD........tried the smoked wings and they were outstanding.......I have lived here for three years and that was my first time in the place.....will be back for more......
Review Source:Finding a good restaurant is a difficult and maybe an impossible task at the beaches of Delaware and Maryland. With that said... Bethany Blues is about as good as it gets for the area but still is nothing special.
The ambiance was standard. Plenty of comfortable seating, televisions and good lighting. Unfortunately the band playing that night was awful and loud. At a BBQ joint a decent blues band at a reasonable level would be welcome. This band was just awful and loud.
The food was hit or miss:
The Shoe String style fried pickles were well cooked, salty and had a sweet honey mustard sauce. Delicious. Â
Crispy BBQ Pork Belly was tasty and smoky but not that crispy on the outside and could be more tender. The flavor was still good but not spectacular.
The cornbread was awesome!
The BBQ sampler included ribs, chopped pork and brisket...a feast. Ribs were dry on the outside but moist inside and needed more sauce and needed the be slow cooked properly. Chopped pork was an alright Carolina style barbecue with good flavor. Brisket was super dry and bland, a disappointment.
The sides were all tasty. Satisfactory Mac and Cheese, Tasty baked beans and phenomenal Collard Greens.
I'll break it down for you:
1. Fried Pickles - Delicious. Shoe string style with a honey mustard dipping sauce that perfectly balances the salty flavour of the pickles.
2. Crispy BBQ Pork Belly - It took a few bites to truly reason out whether I liked it or not, but I finally decided that I liked it. The belly itself is an odd chewy crunchy texture that takes getting used to. The BBQ sauce somewhat lacked the kick it needed to pull it all together. It came out on a wood plank, but I didn't catch much smokiness/woody-ness.
3. Cornbread - You're missing out if you don't like cornbread and honey butter. It's hard to screw this up, and I'm glad they pulled through. Very tasty and definitely wanted more.
4. Tex Something Or Other Platter - BBQ Ribs, chopped pork, brisket. Ribs were super dry on the outside and lacked sauce to soften it up. Inside was tender and very meaty. Chopped pork was slightly drowned in a vinegar-based sauce. Definitely not my favourite. Brisket was barely touched, mainly due to the fact that it was ridiculously dry and lacked any flavour (very boring).
5. The Sides - Mac-n-cheese was pretty good. Not the best cheese, but cooked well and tasty enough. Baked Beans were in a great sauce. I loved the chunks of bacon(?), but I would prefer no giant red beans. Give me the little guys. It was pretty liquidy, so prepare yourself with a napkin in your lap. Collard greens were the best I have ever had. Crisp, cooked, just right.
6. Skipped dessert, as I was about to explode. So much food!
Very good pulled pork. Also you must try the Mac n cheese was great. My husband had the ribs which were very hood as well. Having been coming to the Delaware/Maryland beaches for 31 years I do have my favorites. But we decided only to try new places this year. Bethany blues did not disappoint.
Review Source:Tried this place for the first time, a friend recommended this. Great BBQ ribs I had, my wife had the pulled pork. Service was very friendly, food came out very quick. Said friend had the nachos appetizer loaded with beef brisket, looked good. Large selection of burbon, I'll have to try some at our next visit. Decent beer selection on tap. Will come back again.
Review Source:Stopped in for lunch on the way home from the beach. Not too crowded. Had a great brisket sandwich. The pulled chicken sandwich looked good, too. Fries and cole slaw were pretty standard. The menu showed they have a nice selection of bourbon if you're there later in the day and wish to indulge. Given the brief stop and sandwich fare we had, it's hard to make a super-sound judgment about this place but it was good enough that I'm definitely coming back sometime for dinner to sample their ribs.
Review Source:I have always wanted to try this place and today we did...and I don't think we will be going back. I am surprised about our not so good experience after reading all the positive reviews but here is our experience:
Thursday afternoon and the parking lot was almost empty and we were not sure they were open. Â That should have tipped us off to not stopping but... Â There are only a few tables with guest in the place and we have to wait a few minutes for anyone to seat us. Â We ask for a table and are taken to a booth. Â Request again for a table, no big deal. Â After we are seated we were forgotten about. Â No one comes to take our order for over 10 minutes. Â We have a couple of tired and hungry kids from being at the beach all day and we are just sitting here. Â Again, the place is not busy at all. Â We notice two tables down from us needs cleared and it will stay in that state for over 30 minutes.
Finally, a young man asks if anyone is helping us and we tell him that we are not. Â He asks if he can take our drink order, which he does. Â Comes back with our drinks and he says he will be right back to take our order. Â He waits on another table, takes their order, and disappears for another 10 minutes. Â At this point we are ready to just get up and leave but the kids are hungry so we stay.
While placing the order my wife requested to know what the vegetable of the day was. Â The waiter replied that he did not know. Â He asked if we would like to place our order and then he would go check. Â My wife said she didn't want to place her order until she knew her choice of vegetables. Â He repeated that we could place our order and then go check what the vegetable of the day was. Â Not really figuring out that what he was saying did not make sense. Â So my wife asks him if he can go to the kitchen to find out what the today's vegetable is. Â He looked none too happy but off he went. Â 5 minutes later he arrived back to inform us that there were no vegetables ready. Â She could order French fries or apple sauce. While placing my order I ask to substitute coleslaw for potato salad as one of my sides (which is on the menu as a possible side order). Â The waiter says no problem and off he goes with our order.
On the positive side the wait for the food was not long at all. Â When the food arrived I noticed that I was given pasta salad instead of potato salad. Â I reminded the waiter that I had ordered potato salad. Â He informed me that they did not have potato salad.
The food was alright, I certainly would not say it was anything to rave about but it was not bad either. Â I would even say that it was fairly priced for a beach community.
One last negative were the bathrooms that were not well stocked (only one soap dispenser was working) and looked very messy and in need to servicing.
I don't know if we just visited this establishment on a bad day or if this is normal for this location, we won't be going back to find out.
Would have got five stars if not for the service, started out strong but failed in the end. The food was great. Had the brisket nachos as an appetizer and I am a big fan! Then had the make your own platter with pulled pork and chicken. Corn on the cob was vegetable of the day and made it have that back yard BBQ feel.
Review Source:Consistently good bbq at the beach. Â My family comes every year at least once when we come to the beach and it never disappoints. Â The food is great and prices are reasonable as well. Â Finally tried the Ultimate BBQ Sampler and it was really good! Â Great value, you get SO much food. Â My husband and I were in a meat coma until the next day! Â We have come as a party of 4 and twice with a party of 12 - they never miss a step. Â When we had the group of 12 a few weeks ago they put us in the larger room in the back again and told us we could put the babies' stuff in the alcove. Very accommodating for kids. Â We are first time parents and getting used to dining with kids, and it was a great experience. We'll be back next year!
Review Source:To get the most bang for your buck, check out their Sunday brunch. Year round, $20 for all you can eat, including an omlette and waffle bar, bagels, piles of fresh fruit, tea coffee and juice and a variety of almost  every menu item of what they do best- meat. They even have a selection of deserts- although I must say, the baked goods are ok, not great, but ok. There is also an adorable table for the wee ones; much to my husband's dismay, with tater tots, just for the little guys. It is their height and frisbees function as plates! The house-smoked bacon is so delish, it will bring tears to your eyes. And for another $5, get unlimited, yes thats right, UNLIMITED mimosas. They also have (not unlimited) $5 bloody marys. On football Sundays, they will do their best to accomodate you so you can see your team. Great brunch for $25, unheard of for that kind of quality in this area. They also have live music during brunch, which is usually a lovely acoustic pair that keeps it muted in the background. Great atmosphere, amazing food, and top notch, friendly staff. I am almost tempted not to review on here, so I can keep this spot all to myself.
Review Source:In the sea of overpriced, not-worth-it restaurants on U.S.1, this place stands out as a terrific value. My three friends and I were on a girls' weekend and came here after two straight days of not eating a real meal (basically just eating chips and drinking - you know how it goes at the beach). We were really hungry! My friends had burgers, I had the chicken sandwich. Ridiculously huge, delicious portions, great fries, super friendly, fast service.
Total for the three of us (with two of us ordering salads to start) was only $45, which, if you know anything about this area, is unreal, especially at dinnertime. I also highly recommend the wedge salad - the half portion was HUGE and I really enjoyed it.
This is a great place for large groups and families especially. I wouldn't recommend it to vegetarians or people looking for a romantic, intimate night out. If you're looking to chow down and get a seriously good value, however, this is the place to do it.
Stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Beef brisket sandwich was outstanding. Service was likewise excellent (Dan P) who was helpful in explaining the menu and making recommendations. The restaurant is also beautiful with great ambiance. Only reason I did not rate at 5 stars is for a minimal selection of draft craft beers and there was no blues music playing. Will definitely return and recommend.
Review Source:We stopped in for a quick lunch while on vacation near Rehoboth...and WE WILL GO BACK WITH EVERY VACATION FOR AS LONG AS ITS OPEN!! Its a must.
The fam loves the ribs especially when they have the all you can eat specials when you can sample everything.
I do not eat red meat so I opt for the Spinach Salad with a Crab Cake every time. Its heavenly and there is hardly any filler in the crab cakes. They are so meaty... I can taste them right now. Cant wait to go back. Â BTW, love the fact that there is now one at Bethany too.
GREAT PLACE, keep up the good work!
I ordered the brisket nachos and the serving size was smaller than I had expected. It was tasty, to be sure, but not great. My girlfriend had a grilled chicken salad but she picked the chicken off, as it was bland and without seasoning. So I would not say I am a big fan after one visit, but as much as people love the place, I would definitely try it again. Anyplace can provide a mediocre experience. I hope next time it is better.
Review Source:Absolutely outstanding. My family descended on Dewey Beach for Thanksgiving, and this place knocked it out. Succulent ribs, delicious chopped and pulled pork, fantastic sides... Especially the jalapeño slaw, which is a vinegar lover's must-have. Sauces delicious, friendly staff when I picked up my order, reasonably priced. Very impressed. Bought a shirt. LOL!
Review Source:It was more a 3.5. Â We had nachos as an app. Â They were average. Â The brisket is delicous with the spicy bbq sauce. Â We didn't like the regular bbq sauce. Â The baby back ribs were very tender and fell off the bone. Â The baked beans lacked flavor as did the mac and cheese. Â We did not see cornbread on the menu, but on our way out, saw people eating some. Â I would go back, but I would not get the nachos. Â I would get brisket again.
Review Source:The rebound meal. It's the warm shower you take to get the  stink of that 1-star restaurant off of you. Thank you Bethany Blues for being my rebound meal.
Mind you, perhaps my tastes were a bit warped. But having a decent cooked meal, good service, and a clean dining room helped me forget the "legendary taste" of Grotto.
The wife and I got the BBQ sampler. Which the restaurant informed us feeds 2. It was huge. Could've probably fed 3. Better to have too much food than too little. The chicken was awesome. The Carolina pulled pork was a bit of a letdown - though this is more personal preference I guess. The "sausage" was pretty mediocre. Basically a grilled hot dog. The brisket rocked. Mac and cheese was homey and delicious. Both types of ribs were good.
The server was task-focused and accommodating. Kitchen service was very fast. Most of the food was good. Some of it was ok. Overall happy with the restaurant.
My family and I chose to eat at this restaurant based on the great reviews it got on Yelp and we are happy we did! In fact -- we went two nights in a row!
They specialize in their barbecue and understandably so. The St. Louis ribs and baby back ribs were to die for...the meat was falling off the bone! A half rack with six ribs is more than enough for one person or they have a rib sampler platter perfect for two people to share.
Our waitress the first night was extremely helpful and gave great recommendations for us. The second night our waiter seemed a bit frantic and wasn't the best but it didn't change our impression of the restaurant.
The restaurant itself is very big so we didn't have to wait at all either night and got our choice of a booth. The bar was also big and had two big screen TVs with high tables next to it for a different dining experience.
Each night of the week they have live bands and different specials going on throughout the restaurant which was a nice touch. Overall, two great experiences! Will definitely be coming back.
A tad pricey, but I LOVE this place.
They have the best brisket you're gonna find here in Delaware!
And the cornbread and most of their sides are tasty.
Sundays in the offseason are worth going...as they do AUCE BBQ for 14.99, which comes with their cornbread, 2 sides, and you can mix and match your meats.
I've had a mixed experience here, when it comes to my servers. Â But one thing remains constant, this place has some damn good food and a really cool feel.
It's always a huge plus for me when I go into a joint and it is playing music I like. Â A rare huge plus. Â And always the case here.
Another awesome thing? Â They have a WHISKEY list. Â Yes. Â A chalkboard with like 50 whiskeys on it. Â SWEET.
I've had a good number of things here. Â Both the carolina style BBQ and the regular BBQ are good. Â Not AMAZING, but really good. Â I've had the sirloin slider....AWESOME. Â Sides are good, cornbread is RIGHT ON.
I would recommend against the crab dip, it was pretty skimpy on the crab. Â It was more like dip with crab in it. Â It was good, but not quite what you're looking for near the ocean when you order crab dip.
The first few times I had really good servers. Â The last time, I had one that was either just in the wrong field, or having a very frazzled day. Â When we first sat, she came by 3 or 4 times in the first 20 minutes saying she'd be right back to take our drink orders. Â It was lunch, there was hardly anyone in there. Â She seemed frazzled, and even dumped a whole glass of soda on me and my lady. Â Granted, she got our dessert, but it could have gone smoother.
It didn't prevent me from having another good dining experience, it is just noteworthy.
All in all a good place to visit if you're looking for some good grub and a cool place to eat it in.
This restaurant offers real food in an upscale, hip environment. Â My guy and I checked it out after reading rave reviews on yelp, and we were not disappointed.
The cornbread with honey butter is wonderfully moist and flavorful -- and on the house.
My guy ordered pulled pork with two sides (mac & cheese and creamed corn). Â The pulled pork was amazing - tender and flavorful. Â I ordered the baby back ribs with two sides (mac & cheese and collard greens). Â My ribs were fantastic - falling off the bone tender, juicy, and with choice crispy bits that provided a nice contrast to the meat. Â I was a big fan of the mac & cheese -- it was creamy and the mac was cooked perfectly; my guy thought it was tasty albeit lacking a bit of cheesy goodness. Â He loved the creamed corn; I thought it tasted like corn kernels swimming in a pool of heavy cream (not my favorite). Â The collard greens were very tasty, although I did have to add a bit of salt.
For dessert, we ordered the blueberry buckle. Â It was tasty, but contrary to our server's claims, it was not like a crisp. Â Rather, it was more like a short cake bottom married to a cheese cake top, with blueberry filling in the middle. Â It was tasty, but not what I expected. Â We ordered it a la mode, expecting a scoop of hard ice cream. Â Instead, it came with soft ice cream, which was fine.
All in all, this was a great meal. Â I would give it 41/2 stars, but I don't think that is possible on Yelp's star rating system, so I rounded up.
Absolutely delicious. We hit Yelp for some food advice and saw the first review here and decided to give it a shot for our family of four. We were seated immediately in a very spacious booth and ordered some of the orange marmalade wing appetizers. Drinks were brought quickly and the wings were fantastic, we ended up keeping the saucy-plate to dip other meats in during the meal. We also got a basket of steamy corn-bread with honey-butter.
My wife and I had the 2-meat plates, brisket & pulled-pork, chicken & smoked sausage. You get two sides with each so ended up with two mac & cheese, fries and garlic mashed potatoes. The portions of everything were good and the meat was fall-apart fantastic. There were a few sauces at the table as should be in any good BBQ place. We all went for the sweet which was a perfect thin molasses based sauce. I think like any great BBQ place, the main meals overshadowed the sides. They weren't great but it's hard to notice something as bland as mac and cheese or fries when you are enjoying a perfect dry-rubbed brisket.
Go, eat well, be happy, kids meals come with a glow-in-the-dark Frisbee for beach fun.
