Question: Who goes to the airport to eat?
Answer: Nobody
Question: When arriving early or if your flight is delayed what to do?
Answer: Eat.
Under the 2nd set of circumstances you're at the mercy of what's available and Biergarten is one of your better options..
We sat down to kill an hour or so - the menu while small provided enough options.
We enjoyed the Pulled Pork Sandwich with its tasty cole slaw and spicy sauce.
Also ordered the "Knocks in a Blanket" (small but thick frankfurter also w/cole slaw) from the small plates menu which did not disappoint.
There are a number of unique beer selections if you so desire.
Service was polite and slow but - again - under the circumstances - who cares?
We're hanging around anyway.
Not very impressed, waffling between 2 or 3 stars. Â We ended up at Biergarten after finding out our flight was delayed by a significant chunk of time. Â What else is there to do when this happens but wander the terminals, look at NYC souvenirs, and imbibe? Â The bar was full of other delayed passengers, so we sat at a table. Â Our waiter was on the attentive side, water glasses were kept pretty full.
I didn't try any food so I can't comment on it. Â This decision was cemented by noting an Artichoke nearby and wanting to try that. Â The menu offered up things like burgers and wings and cheese dip and steak tartare, along with some desserts, all of course at airport prices. Â It was also kinda hot in the area. Â Crank up the AC please!
There are a fair number of beers on tap (and some bottles too), so my travel buddy tried Saison Dupont, a Green Flash IPA, and Thornbridge Jaipur IPA. Â Sketchy is not having prices for the beers on the menu even though the glasses of wine had prices listed by them. Â The waiter said that the beers were $8-9 so we were not super pleased to find some for $12 on the bill. Â Buyer beware!
On the bright side, there was some cool music playing, albeit a tad on the loud side. Â As I write this, I'm listening to a song I heard that I am now addicted to. Â There are iPads with free internet access that you can use at the bar, along with outlets for charging your device of choice. Â And the placemats are made of some silicone material and are fun to touch.
It this was a restaurant in the real world it would fail like most poorly run businesses. Unfortunately they have a captive air traveling audience. The service is the worst. The staff talk to themselves and dance around. They never once checked on me. Â They brought me my wings and walked away. Â I had to ask for napkins and a glass of water. Do not tip on the credit card! Pay cash tip so you can tip AFTER you see their poor service and tip accordingly. Â Hopefully a restaurant with real waiters will open that can take an order and work for their tips and wages. The only plus is the bar area has outlets for charging your devices. Â
I had a beer that came in a bottle. I wasn't asked if I wanted a glass. I ordered the wings and they were extra crispy and dry. So for the two, Â I paid $17 plus tip. Â As I was leaving one 'wait' staff was asking a customer if he needed any help with ordering. Thanks Ms. Melodie O. you rock.
