- Service extraordinarily nice. Owner knows what he's doing and how to treat people.
- NO delivery charge?! Awesome.
- Soup is nice, fries I'm not big on.
- I've tried almost every sandwich, all really great.
- My one issue is the grease. Ideally, it would get toned down a bit so I don't feel like this is as much an unhealthy option is as it is.
Barhops always create a different kind of food yearning. Granted, I yearn for grilled cheese a good amount of the time, but it just gets magnified when beer gets involved. Since being at the Globe at 10am on a Sunday is of extreme importance, food would be needed for after such an excursion. Enter Big Cheese on Lincoln as my friend and I walked up to Half Acre.
I only got takeout from here as Half Acre allows you to bring food into their tap room. So, I stepped inside and quickly decided on the mushroom grilled cheese. I have to say, I did like this. There were a lot of mushrooms packed into the sandwich, and there was a good amount of sandwich as well.
The food was quick and very good to solid. It's not far from Half Acre, so it's likely I'll be back here in the future. I wouldn't go out of my way for them, but I certainly will stop in when the hunger pangs strike me and I'm in the area.
Tuesday evening I was wandering around North Center looking for a place to grab some carry out. Â My favorite thai place was closed for the evening, I didn't feel like pizza, it was raining, I needed a solution. Â I saw The Big Cheese across the street and decided to take a risk.
There was only one table taken in the restaurant, and I am always tempted to walk out of places where there's no one there. Â But I carried on, because I was hungry and I didn't want to go back outside in the rain immediately. Â I ordered the mozzarella chicken with pine nuts and radicchio. Â It was pretty bland, and didn't really come together as I imagined it would. Â However, it came with soup and the tomato soup, while salty, made the sandwich palatable when dipped in.
I picked up the mushroom with fontina and truffle oil for my partner. Â It was very oily but had better flavor than the chicken sandwich. Â I got it with the parmesan fries, which sounded great, but were cold and mushy. Â Sad. Â And the cheese really did nothing for them.
So, all this is to say, the meal was passable as dinner, but if you want good grilled cheese, there are definitely better options in the city.
