I think food has gotten worse here. Often food is cold and once I got a hamburger with visibly moldy bread. I also agree with another reviewer that the hamburgers are pretty tasteless. Cuban Panini is still the only other thing on the menu that is really any good to me and even it is hit and miss. Most of the time you have to get up and get your own napkins, silverware, ketchup, etc.. Bliss is the only really good waitress. I don't really drink much but mixed drinks seem a little light on liquor to me. I also have to disagree with another reviewer in that I think they have excellent ventilation. You still come out smelling like cigarette smoke but it is much worse at lots of other sports bars.
Review Source:The bartenders are very generous with their shots and drink prices aren't too bad. They have ping pong which is pretty rare at a bar. I think it's actually a first for me. The smoke is so bad here and I don't think they have very good ventilation.
You can definitely tell who's a regular and who wasn't.
Meh - I was a bit shocked with my experience once entering Big Shots last Friday evening. The hubby and I went to Big Shots to get out of the house and have a few drinks. Our experience was pretty weird in my opinion.
First: the music? Seriously, who needs heavy metal baring in their ears at 5:30 pm?! It was so loud we couldn't hear each other talking while sitting accross from one another. We asked teh waitress about the loud music - she said they get bored and the music keeps them going during the boring moments. WTH?
Second: The waitstaff. The majority of the time they were just milling about and talking to one another. Aren't you in the service industry to help serve people in your establishment? I did ask if they had raspberry vodka for a refreshing vodka tonic. She looked at me as though I had two heads. Raspberry vodka and tonic - pretty simple. She was unsure about the tonic situation as well.
The food was pretty decent though, we were happy with that portion of our adventure. We got a small side of the buffalo chips - they were tasty. We also got the queso and chips dish. The cheese was straight up velveeta - but the chips were really good. However, they put some weird seasoning on the chips and it was kind of sweet tasting. We asked the waitress about the seasoning - she said they bought them like that. Still didn't get a real answer on the chips.
Overall - it was a place for us to sit, have a drink and and then walk home. LOL! I guess we'd go back simply for convenience - other than that I'd likely never go back. Odd group of patrons also. Some guy dropped his glass at the bar. The broken glass and spilled drink stayed on the floor for a long time. No one even thought twice to pick up the piec es. Really?
I go here for the food. I have to agree with David H, the Cuban Panini is off the hook. The meatloaf plate is also one of my favorites, served with fresh green beans & made from scratch garlic mashed potatoes. About as close to home cooking as I've found.
The only thing I haven't liked is their mexican dishes, which is weird to me because I'm pretty sure the kitchen staff is mexican.
I'll also have to agree that the service is kinda slow, because they have a small staff. I personally believe if the owner/manager spent more time on the floor, this problem would be solved. He "seems" to be very busy in his office. I've been in there numerous when there was just one person tending bar & waiting tables & he's back in the office. I've also seen numerous people walk out because they got tired of waiting. This is nothing but bad management & the staff is only as good as their management.
I for one, get cravings for their food, so I'm willing to wait.
We got there and stood around for a few minutes while everyone at the bar just stared at us. There were no employees around to seat us, so we finally just sat ourselves. About 10 minutes later our waitress comes up and gets our drink order and leaves without asking if we wanted appetizers or if we were ready to order.
I ordered a burger - fully loaded (stuffed with onions, mushrooms, garlic, bacon, and jalapenos and topped with 5 different kinds of cheese) with buffalo chips.
The wait for our food wasn't particularly fast or slow. I asked our waitress for ranch to dip our buffalo fries in and when she returned I apologized and asked if we could get some BBQ sauce too (my burger came out dry and I wasn't going to put ketchup and mustard on a burger with bleu cheese). In the time that it took her to go get a side of BBQ sauce (which she didn't even get - she brought terryaki sauce), I had finished almost all of my fries and my husband was practically done with his whole meal.
By this time I was too hungry to care about the sauce and put it on my burger anyway. The burger was cooked perfectly. I cut it half because it was so large. The first half was very mild and I could barely taste any of the fillers; the second half was so hot that my lips were burning - uneven distribution of filling.
Our waitress' boyfriend came in and they were cuddling with each other literally 5 ft from our table. We had finished eating and were waiting for our check while she was hugging on her boyfriend right next to us. Even after he left, she walked right past us and took another table's order before coming over to us, even though we were clearly finished a long time ago. She didn't even thank us for coming in or wish a good night.
We will not be returning.
I've been to this bar a few times, so I truly believe my review is fairly accurate. First off, this is a total "Dude" hangout. If you're looking for chicks, don't bother because the few that will be in here are either with their b/f's or are "hood rats". If you are a chick, then this place is like shooting fish in a barrel for you.
It's TV's galore here! If there's a UFC/ Cowboys/ Mavs/ Stars game on, expect an over abundance of TV's to watch whatever event it is. On the other hand, expect an abundance of "dip spitting" Affliction wearing guys around looking to try out some UFC moves they just saw on TV.
Service: For the half dozen times I've been here, service is always sub par. The bartenders are not "volume" bartenders. There can be a dozen people around waiting for drinks and they'll be B.S.'ing, definitly not focused. Sometimes they're always pretty buzzed and drunk. You might ask, "Why does he keep coming back?". That brings me to 3.
$1.50 Vodka drinks on Thursdays. That is the only time I will come here.
I pretty much have a bad rapport with this place, but everyone has they're opinion right? I hate giving mediocre reviews, but after coming here a handful of times and seeing the same things, I think it's justified.
