Service was excellent.  Our waitress Kailee was top notch.  The food is decent but I found the BBQ sauce a bit too sweet.  It's interesting that you can see into the kitchen while waiting for a table.  The smokers are up close for you to see in action, and the food prep staff makes the pulled pork right there for all to observe.  What I saw was a few rack of uncooked ribs sitting at room temperature for a half hour, the entire time we waited for a table.  I bet this is a no-no but what are you gonna do?  Gots to have bbq.

This place is not bad. This is one of the better bbq places that I have been to but not the best. The best probably would be phil's bbq down in San Diego. Anyways, i have had the pulled pork, porky mac, and the ribs. The pulled pork is good. They dont have the sauce in the meat which I like. The porky mac is really rich and creamy and it is really good. The ribs could be better. they dont have the meat falling off the bone but they almost do.

the bar area is awesome. they have pretty much any big game on and the atmosphere is great. The inside has a bbq feel to it. i would definitely recommend this place to other people.

I'll say  I'm a fan.  I've eaten here three times.  And while I've had to wait particularly during the summer the wait staff has always been attentive and the food is good.  The best meal I've had there was with family we ate right on the water.  the ribs were succulent and the sides generous.  For the amount of food your given the price is reasonable.

We have been here about 4 times, and most recently today for their thanksgiving buffet. Everything was excellent as always. I love the pulled pork. My only issue is that in the summer this place is packed. So much so, that it can become unpleasant.

Big cavernous place, with outdoor seating on the river, very scenic!  Menu is large, with lots of options and "combo" meals.  Hubby had one of those combos, bbq ribs, chicken and some kind of sausage.  I had a Carolina style pulled pork sandwich.  Hubby liked the ribs, said the chicken and sausage was OK.  My pulled pork was dry and lacked any flavor other than smoke.  I was hoping for a nice vinegary type of sauce, but that wasn't the case.   I used the sauces which are on the table and it did perk up my sandwich to the point where I did like it.  Restaurant is clean, service is good, parking was convenient on a weeknight, but clearly weekends in this area must be challeging for parking, as there are numerous restaurants along this waterfront with limited parking within walking distance.

Great view of the river.  Awesome decor.  Good food.  I haven't seen so many different options of loaded fries in a while.  Decent Brisket.  The atmosphere totally sold me.  I live 35 miles north of this restaurant but the experience is worth revisiting.

We went with a group of 5 and got to share the different dishes. The sausage player was very good and so we the ribs. Carolina chili cheese fries very tasty but not for the faint hearted. They had live music on a Wed which was nice. That was my 2nd time there and I will come back. Location is right at the water and they also have an outside bar.

We've been here twice now and would recommend to anyone looking for casual but good BBQ.   Congrats to the management, as service is spot on.   The staff is always moving, checking on you, making sure you are happy.   This time we ate outside, and the view was fantastic.  They had an acoustic duo, who were better than average...and unexpected at 4pm on a holiday.   The food is delicious.  Get the Carolina fries...a terrific twist.   The steaks were cooked as ordered, and the creamed corn was seasoned nicely.   Even the banana pudding dessert was above average for such simple fare.   In short, we will be back again.

The only reason I gave it two stars was for the amazing view from their terrace.  The food?  Typical corporate, high salt, high fat mounds of food on a plate.  I've had their ribs and pulled pork a few times and found it to be dry and overcooked.  Drinks?  Very expensive!  Bar service?  Severely lacking in skills not only in how to prepare drinks properly, but how to serve them with a friendly smile.  Food servers?  Hit or miss.  A few times I've eaten there, our server never came back to ask a table of 8 mind you, if anyone wanted another drink or cup of coffee.  The restaurant has a great band line up and weekly entertainment schedule, so if you don't go with any high expectations for the price your paying for both food and drink, you'll be ok with just the entertainment, view and great crowd for people watching.

Great bbq - beef ribs and sides excellent, chicken so-so - service is fine, mixed drinks are okay (mixing is meh but no skimping on the spirits themselves so their hearts are in the right place). Brownie Sundae is excellent. Pecan pie the only major disappointment. Add in the reasonable prices given the portion size and an amazing view: Just under 4.5 stars.

Billy Joe's Ribworks is located on the Newburgh, NY waterfront.  It is a large restaurant with extensive indoor and outdoor seating (during warm weather).   It is deservedly popular, so expect to have to wait for a table on Friday and Saturday nights, as reservations are not accepted.  Parking can be a bit of a problem, although valet parking is provided.  The views of the Hudson River, boat and barge traffic, and Beacon Mountain on the other side are very nice, particularly from the outdoor patio seating.  Prices are moderate, but the food quality does seem to vary somewhat.  The baby back ribs, the pulled pork, and the burgers have been reliably excellent.  Avoid the salmon.  For sides, the fries, sweet potato fries, onion straws, baked beans, braised greens, mac n' cheese, and cornbread have all been very good.  Avoid the calamari.  They offer a nice selection of bottled and draft beers.   The service has usually been very good.   All in all, a nice place to have a relaxed meal, with nice views an good, though not fancy, food.  Particularly if you avoid the busy Friday and Saturday evenings.

First time going here and it was a great experience.  Even before you walk in the restaurant you can smell that great aroma of the BBQ.  I went with my dad and friend after going to the motorcyclepedia museum because one of the locals told us that it was the best BBQ in town, and she was not lying.  The atmosphere of Billy Joe's was amazing, it wasn't too crowded when we went in but we heard it gets crowded on the weekends.  They have a big selection on the menu and a good selection of beer on tap.  Even though I didn't have any beer the selection was quit nice.  My dad and I both had the BBQ breuben which was brisket with cole slaw, provolone, and your sauce of choice.  Which was the house sauce and kicking sauce which was a more hotter bbq sauce.  All of this was on thick texas toast.  Both of us had onion straws on the side but you can get fries or sweet potato fries.  The waitress was very nice and always came back to our table to see how we were doing and even though we sat in the nice AC we had a great view of the hudson.  You choose from sitting inside or out and outside seemed reasonable with the nice deck but it was a hot day so we decided to stay inside.  I give Billy Joe's a 5 because it was crazy good! Everything about the place was great, when I'm up in the Newburgh area again I'm so coming back!

On a recent visit to the Motorcyclepedia Museum, my son, my friend and I were recommended to Billy Joe's by the museum owner's wife.  After giving us directions we headed to the Ribworks.   Her recommendation was perfect.  You could smell the barbecue a few blocks away and our anticipation for lunch peaked.

Located in what appears to be an old factory the Ribworks has a large dining area with an adjacent patio that overlooks the Hudson River.  Indoor and outdoor bars compliment the dining area and patio.

The menu is quite extensive and the prices are very reasonable, having something for everyone (even the non-barbecue person)  After perusing the menu, I settled on Breuben sandwich.  A generous helping of barbecued brisket with coleslaw, provolone, and barbecue sauce on thick Texas toast.  It was served with onion straws.

The brisket was as tender as it gets; melt in your mouth tender and the slaw, cheese and sauce heightened my enjoyment.

The Ribworks has a large selection of beer and my friend enjoyed a Newburgh Cream Ale.

Next trip to the museum, Billy Joe's Ribworks is on the itinerary.

Good BBQ place.   We randomly found it on a leisurely drive through the area.  Was on vacation visiting family in Upstate NY.

This place seems really well run.  It was nice so we sat on the patio but as rain moved in they closed in the patio and opened the windows facing the river giving us the A/C to help with the humidity.  All without disturbing any table's meal.  This really made the experience more enjoyable that the hot wet mess it could have been.

The food was very good.  I often am disappointed by brisket and was not.  I got the pulled pork and brisket combo, both were good, side items were good and all came out hot.

I had a draft beer from a micro-brewery that I was told was right next door.  It was not $6 good but plenty drinkable.  I suspect that this would be an expensive location to drink for an evening but I'd go for one and my meal.

Server, (Angelique I believe) was very attentive and friendly.  You may have to park a short distance away due to the close proximity of a few other restaurants but there seemed to be plenty of parking in the area.

My group of 4, including a hard to please 80+ grandma, all enjoyed it.

This is a strange place in my opinion.  They turned a massive warehouse on the Newburgh waterfront into a massive barbeque restaurant.  It isn't fancy at all, but they have valet parking.  They aren't a chain restaurant, but the random-ass decor and t-shirts being sold inside say that they might be.  The staff is managed professionally enough and comes off very chain-ey.  The menu as well.  This isn't all to be negative, as the place looks nice inside for a converted warehouse and the deck has great views of the Hudson.  Billy Joe's is just a little off is all.  And I think that is part of their marketing and appeal!

Food is decent but pretty generic BBQ.  I've had several differnet things, such as the pulled pork sandwich and the hickory burger.  The pulled pork was pretty blah, with it really needing bbq sauce to make it more palatable.  The burger was surprising good for a place like this, with them being very generous on the toppings (bacon, cheddar, onion straws and bbq).  Maybe even a bit overkill.  Luckily the beef was good though even though the roll was below average.  Both onion straws and fries are good but not great.  Multiple barbeque sauces are appreciated, and they range from good to meh.  Plenty of options to dip things in is all.  Regardless you will definitely have enough to eat here, as the portions are very generous.  Their beer list is good, ranging from Dogfish Head to Keegan Ales to more common options.  In fact, since there aren't many places that have a great beer selection around--let alone a tap selection--this becomes one of Billy Joe's larger selling points.  Ironically enough with it's good-not-great food and great beer selection (for the Hudson Valley), in some ways, Billy Joe's is almost better suited to being a bar for us adults.

Luckily it does have a bar area off to the side, so that is what I'd advise using the place for if you want to see its best.  Weirdly the place seems to be marketing to more to families which makes sense too; after all, daddy needs a good beer list, especially when he's dealing little Jimmy and Sally.  You're not going to come out of your way here for the food, and kids sure as hell don't know the difference.  Hell, maybe that stupid goat mascot has a better business plan than I thought...

We came (party of 7), service & food were great. I must be honest, I was slightly concerned before we arrived (some of the negative reviews, led me to this worry ...unnecessarily. When reading reviews, I try to remember how not ALL can ALWAYS be "pleased.")
This place was very nice. Portions were sufficient and tasty. Some in our party got the "Billy Joe's Feast," & it was 2 big guys & they had some to take home! I got the Ribeye w/this broccoli &I sweet potato fries..very good. My two kids got the "kickin shrimp" ..they said it was very good ..I'm allergic ..so I took their word. Some got brownie sundae ...very good!  Some1 else got the meatloaf & said it was very moist.   ;)

I almost 4got ..we sat on the deck, overlooking the water,  boats going by.. very nice.

It seems like they have a regular "later crowd,"I 10pm-2am..I imagine around that time things could quickly get out of control ..buyer beware for THOSE times ONLY.

Also when you're driving down to the place u might tend to want to not proceed (preceeding neighbor isnt appealing)..but its ONLY 'that way' until 1 block before u reach the actual place.
    I'd definitely will go again.

I wasn't expecting much because honestly this type of restaurant is not my style, but... the service was friendly and prompt (fast), the view and patio are amazing, it's great for kids (big garden next to the patio for running around), and the food- while not the best I have ever had- was quite decent. We tried the ribs, pulled pork and brisket. All good. Portion sizes are quite small for a rib house in my opinion, but that's fine. Sweet potato fries were tasty (they could really put more on the plate- they are such an inexpensive vegetable, come on), greens were tasty and the beans were sweet and meaty.

We went early, but the crowd was mixed. Lots of families, a few couples and a band was setting up for later in the evening. We will be back I'm sure.

Probably the best dining experience I've ever had at a restaurant I expected to be entirely mediocre.  Shocked by just how good every single thing I ate really was.  Got there at 7:30 last Friday, basically the busiest time there is, and only waited about 15-20 minutes when they projected 25.  Got some drinks from the bar while we waited and everything was good.  Plus by the time we sat down we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to order and got some appetizers going right away.  Waiter seemed like a bit of a rookie, but it didn't put a damper on the visit in the slightest.

Ordered the smoked wings, fried pickles, and fried green tomatoes.  Pickles were in spears (I prefer chips) and came with two tasty dipping sauces.  Tomatoes I liked a little more than the pickles, but unfortunately had to split them 4 ways.  Both had a nice crispy breaded outside with a soft warm inside.  The one that really impressed us was the wings.  Awesome smokey flavor and fall off the bone tender.  Tasted amazing with or without the bleu cheese.

For my entree I ordered the smoked prime rib.  It is hard for me to pass up prime rib when it's on the menu and having never tried it smoked before I had to give it a go.  Meat had a nice crusted edge with smokey juices flowing though the inside.  The au jus and creamy horseradish sauce on the side just topped it all off.  I also got a side of grilled shrimp, which came as a skewer of about 6 or 7 I believe.  This came along with two sides and corn bread.  Corn bread was really good, but quite filling.  Cole slaw was some of the best I've had, but I must admit I'm not a big fan of cole slaw in general.  I've actually saved the best for last though.  More than the fried goodies, the wings, the shrimp or the prime rib, the one thing I absolutely fell in love with was the mac and cheese.  Hands down the best mac and cheese I've ever had.  One of those things that you bite into and your eyes just light up each time with astonishment.  If you read through the extensive menu long enough you'll catch that they actually offer the mac and cheese as an entree.  My biggest regret is not ordering the  Porky Mac, which comes with pulled pork on top that same awe-inspiring mac and cheese.

After 3 appetizers, 4 entrees and some extra sides our bill only came to $100.  We even got a discount because one of the members of our party serves our country in the armed forces.  Couldn't have asked for a better experience.  Our friends enjoyed it so much they went back the next night too and said it was going to be their new go-to when they have company in town.  Can't wait to get back up to West Point for a visit knowing it's probably going to mean another night at Billy Joe's!

I went on a Monday afternoon for drinks and some food with a friend at 1pm to hopefully try out the new Newburgh Brewing Company beer since I knew it was served here.  Walking into the parking lot it looked like the place would be packed however we walked in and it was rather empty.  We were sat immediately by the beautiful waterfront however it took over 5 minutes to get our drink order.  And the waiter that came was not even our waiter that took it.  We both ordered whichever Newburgh beer they had so we could try it.  About 5 minutes later, our waiter came back to tell us they were out of this beer.  No big deal, however when I ordered my next beer they were out of that as well.  I understand it was after the weekend however when you have a lot of selections please let your staff know which is out so that you do not have to get excited about your beer coming only to have to choose another.  Ordered the Fried Pickles because my friend never had them and they were delicious as always.  My friend tried something that he never had before which was the Fried Catfish, Mashed Potatoes and Braised Greens.  I had the Pulled Pork and double order of Mashed Potatoes.  Very generous portions of food and that is why I ordered the double Mashed so that I had good leftovers.  My friend ate his fish very quickly and I said that it must have been great however I realized there was a lot of breading on the plate still, so there was not at much fish in there as we thought.  Still good food though.  When getting the check we asked for change.  The change we got back was nothing that we could really make a tip out of.  Luckily we both had small bills on us to give the waiter a tip.  If the change was all the cash we had on us, the waiter would have killed himself out of a decent tip because there were no small bills.  I love the atmosphere of Billy Joe's, however it seems like the service is hit or miss.  I will continue to go back because of the ambiance of restaurant and the food!

This place has got one of my alltime favorite setups.  The whole side of the restaurant opens up to face the water in the spring time.  WOW, someone actually thought to utilize the most crucial part of their location.  Open air is what it's all about for me and they have both an indoor and outdoor bar to suit your taste.

Prices are good, you'll stuff your face.  BBQ  will curb your craving but I wouldn't classify it as the down south authentic good stuff.  I appreciate that if you're on a diet they have grilled fish dishes and salads so you don't feel cornered.

You can most of the time find someone cool to talk to at the bar and if worse comes to worse the staff is very cool to hang with.

To me, it's the bathrooms that give the place this super chill and laid back feel.   With the brick walls, corrogated tin ceilings and old fashioned lamp fixtures.

Oh, and this is a big hang out for bikers when it's nice out!  Whats better than being able to checkout a bunch of Harley's (and their riders) after downing some Corona's.

I don't know, there's something about this place I just love.  They give you what you want and just leave it at that.  Brilliant!

An early Sunday dinner on the riverside deck is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing experiences I can think of.  The service is always amazing, from the servers to the managers.  I always leave feeling pleased.  I highly recommend the ribs, and the baked beans are RIDICULOUS!  I just wish my mouth was bigger so I could shovel the food into it faster.  The desserts are dangerous.

Ok, I moved to NY from TN. The South is very serious for its BBQ. To date, this is my go to for ribs! The skin has a crunch yet, the meat is like a cartoon.. You can suck it off the bone. I LOVE the ribs here. It's like I'm back in the South when I'm in there. The pulled pork is the best I've had in NY so far. And the brisket is orgasmic. If anyone finds a better place then you have got to tell me because I have not found it.

Took the family to Ribworks last night.  We are lacking for good BBQ in the area and I was very excited to hear about this place.

First, the service.  Whitney was our server and she was really good.  She knows the food, knows the drinks, was attentive and a lot of fun.  Looking around the restaurant, all the servers were in good moods.  My impression is that this must be a fun place to work - they all seemed happy.

We purposely ordered different meals so we could try more of the food.  We started with fried pickles and fried green tomatoes.  We are fried pickle fanatics, most restaurants use pickle chips.  Ribworks uses spears - much more gooder!  You get more pickle in every bite when it's the spear vs. the chips.  The fried green tomatoes were very good as well.  I didn't love the sauces they served with the appetizers, but they were okay.  One was a bbq ranch and the other was a cajun remoulade which had a little kick.

For dinner we ordered the St Louis Ribs, the beef ribs, fried catfish and mac -n- cheese.  They have a nice selection of sides - something for everyone.  We ordered the collard greens.  They were a tad on the sweet/vinegary side, but not bad.  I'd say they were just okay.  I think it's a personal preference thing.  Not that they were prepared improperly.  We tend to not love any collards except the ones we make ourselves so I can't knock Ribworks for that.  As mentioned in other reviews, the corn bread is really good.  My husband also ordered the smoked baked potato.  Great idea to smoke the potato.  One of the kids ate his entire potato.

The ribs were really good.  Smoky flavor that you're looking for, cooked properly, falling off the bones, but not dry.  I love that you can order your ribs naked or with sauce.  We tend to not sauce our ribs and most places automatically serve their ribs dripping in sauce.  They have sauce on the table, we did try it and it was very tasty.

The catfish was very good, cornmeal batter which makes it nice and crunchy, their french fries were amazing - fresh and crunchy!  Lastly, the mac -n- cheese.  OMG.  Homemade, very cheesy and absolutely delicious.  I can see returning just for the mac -n- cheese.

They also have live music, but we were there too early for that.  I'd like to go back and check out the music.

I'm very happy we found this place.  We will definitely add this to our list of restaurants to eat at regularly.

A nice dinner place with friends.  Had no trouble getting a table, the atmosphere was very casual.  We enjoyed watching the ladies line dancing on the dance floor.
My friend and I had ribs; watch out for the Full Rack of Beef Ribs - they're HUGE.  I felt like Fred Flintstone - and looked like him too.
My wife and other guest had fish and they enjoyed it.

    The BBQ sauce is awesome.

Bill Joe's Ribworks is THE BEST BBQ restaurant in the Hudson Valley. They cook their meat in gas ovens rather than on a grill, but it's still very good. The atmosphere is very casual - kind of like a sports bar. Not the place for a quiet romantic experience. You have to check it out at least once.

I cannot fathom How anyone could give this place above 2 stars on it's BEST day!

I went on a Saturday evening a few weeks ago as part of a party of 3 to check out this new(-ish) BBQ joint on the overrated, Newburgh Waterfront.  We were told there was a 2 hour wait!  We decided not to wait, and returned to try our luck for a late lunch the next day.  We assumed that the immense wait time was a good omen...well, here are the results:

The food is an absolute embarrassment.  Boxed (or worse) macaroni and cheese.  Poorly prepped, undercooked vegetables, cheese sauce that is 90% water, Dry, overcooked meat (Ribs have "skin"?  Who knew?)

The service is a joke.  The building is way bigger than it needs to be. We were seated in the farthest, empty corner in the place.  It took over 25 minutes to even be greeted by our server.  We ordered drinks, and had to wait another 15 to get them, and order our food.  She then proceeded to get EVERY order wrong.  My (incorrect) meal arrived on it's own, about 10 minutes ahead of my 2 companions'.  The server was not personable, nor humble about it in any way, and when asked about it, she broke the cardinal rule of customer service, and insisted we had somehow caused the mix-up.  The manager walked through the dining room with a scowl, and didn't talk to anyone.  There is a general feeling of clueless-ness permeating the entirety of this establishment.  The priorities are all wrong.

Somehow though, they have the tastiest cornbread I've ever had at a restaurant.  Sadly, one good item isn't nearly enough to make me even want to try to give Billy Joe's Ribworks a 2nd chance.  What a shame.

Wide, open restaurant with scenic view of the river.  Large outside sitting area with bar.

Service (or our waitress) was slow. Our appetizers came before our drinks (water, sweet tea, coke, etc)

Prices are reasonable: 1/2 rack Ribs (St Louis style) with sweet potato fries $16.99, drink $3.99, appetizer $7.99. ~$90 plus tip for a family of four.

Ribs - nothing special... Wouldn't order them again. Can't speak for the others, but they all seemed to like their meals.

The place was busy so a lot of folks appear to like eating here. Also seems like a nice place for drinks with friends..

Good ambience.  Rustic,  and open views of the river. I really like the outside bar with outdoor seats.

    Family restroom is a plus.

Good overall was good.  Our ribs for the night we're dry.

Smoked wings and buffalo calamari was on point.

The friends we were with had the pulled pork was moist,  and flavorful.

Nice spacious rooms with a great little merchandise shop.

I enjoyed a fun outdoor dinner at Billy Joe's Ribworks at the Newburgh Waterfront along Hudson River.  Despite the overcast the views of the Hudson River were beautiful.  The historic waterfront has a lovely River walk with scenic views with many restaurants with indoor/outdoor dining.

At Ribworks we had a 30 minute wait so we sat at the the outdoor bar and enjoyed the lovely Hudson River views.  After 30 minutes we were seated by a server who was prompt courteous and had a great sense of humor.  I ordered a half rack of the St. Louis-Cut Ribs (the meat fell off the bone) with sides of steamed broccoli and French fries.  My friend ordered a full rack of Brontosaurus Beef Ribs with sides of sweet potato fries and cole slaw.  Both orders were served with sweet cornbread.  Our meals were delicious!!  Despite being full I went ahead and ordered the Warm Brownie Sundae.....I just can't seem to turn down a warm fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.

Oh where oh where did my Front Street go??? Oh where oh where can it be???? I can't believe they turned that dingy dive of a club into a HUGE rib joint. And who would have thought that it would be such a success?!? By the time we got there (6:30) the place was jam packed. WOW.

Anyway - our table (of about 15) were seated and severed pretty quickly. I was actually surprised on how fast they turned the tables around. We ordered our food and in about 20 minutes or so we were ready to chow down. I order the fried pickles as an appetizer and the mini sliders for my main meal. The appetizer was good - I just thought that the fried pickles should have been chips not spears. It was kind of hard to dip them in the sauce without double dipping. The sliders were really good. Very juicy. The side of mac and cheese tasted like it was made by Kraft and the side of baked beans tasted like Bushes. Kind of disappointing.

Oh and just like the rest of the reviews stated, our waiter was an ass! He was rushing us the whole time and he kept on getting aggravated when we ordered more drinks. Now one would think that if you had a table that wanted drinks,  you would be happy because it meant more of a tip for you. But not this guy - he looked really pissed off each time we asked for something. And when cleaning off the table he dumped by full glass of stoli and sprint out. He was in such a rush that he didn't realize that it was alcohol and not water. Thankfully the manager was nice enough to give me a free drink on the house.

Billy Joe's Ribworks is quickly becoming THE place to be on the Newburgh Waterfront district. It's big, it's loud, the food is great, there's lots of it, and the service is generally very good.

Want ribs? They have 3 kinds, all excellent, meaty, well seasoned, and finger lickin' good. Brisket, chicken, pulled pork, meatloaf, sausages, mac n cheese, beans, corn bread, you name it, it's all quality, and the portions are very large compared to the very reasonable prices. A wide assortment of drinks and beers are available from the bar, and the views of the Hudson River from the large outdoor deck are spectacular. There are always plenty of people working at the restaurant, so service is always attentive, and the food comes out quickly. And, the BBQ sauce is delicious!

Downsides? Well, it tends to get a bit loud at Billy Joe's, so if you are looking for a quiet night out, this probably isn't the place for you. Also, if you get there after 6:30, especially on the weekends, be prepared to wait for a table.

Otherwise, you really can't go wrong with this place, quality food, lots of it, at a reasonable price. It's a fun, friendly place to be, and there is live music on the weekends too.

Their food is pretty good.  We went for the $40 platter of a bunch of meat (Ribs, chicken, pulled pork, brisket) and ton of sides (cornbread, mac&cheese, fries, and brocolli w/ cheese).  Everything was good.  We seriously had lunch for about three days.  Service was alright too, it was pretty busy and they looked rather light on staff.. but  I'd go back.

I haven't been to Billy Joe's for a meal yet, this is a review of their bar.

Billy Joe's is a pretty large place and the bar is a perfect fit. It's a square bar with seating around three of the four sides and a water tower in the middle with TVs on each side.

The bar has a large selection of drinks including 16 different beers on tap(including microbrews and local beers), more beers in bottles, several wines, and a large assortment of liquors. They also serve many specialty drinks of their own recipes. Prices are some of the most reasonable on the Newburgh waterfront.

Food service is available at the bar, there full menu is available until later in the night when the only offer a smaller bar menu.

The staff is very friendly and knowledge about their offerings.

They have live music on the weekends from the best local bands and occasionally nationally touring acts.

While Billy Joe's is an unexpected addition to the Newburgh waterfront, it certainly is a genius move. Everything around it (except maybe Gully's) is a bit frou-frou and expensive and why should you have to be loaded to enjoy the riverfront?

Anyway, a friend and I came here after an enjoyable experience at Downing. The last time I was in the building it was a nightclub, but they've definitely invested in turning it into something different. The interior is really cool and I suspect it'll be even better when the weather heats up and they set up the outdoor patio. Very family-friendly and open enough to accommodate larger parties.

The food was decent. I had a pulled pork sandwich and it was average. I upgraded to sweet potato fries, which had an unnecessary sweet seasoning on them. My friend had the brisket sandwich, but I didn't really ask how it was, to be honest. We split the banana pudding for dessert, which believe me, was plenty for two.

My main issue with Billy Joe's is that we felt rushed the whole time. Our food came out within 10 minutes and our server seemed like he wanted us in and out from the get go. He nearly took our dessert away when there was a good portion of it left and there was still pudding on my friend's spoon. I felt like turning the table over was more important than our enjoyment of the time there. I kept glancing at the door to see if perhaps there was a table waiting for ours, since I know the drill as someone with 9 years of restaurant service, but no one was waiting.

I know that nowadays many restaurants and their staff rely on turning tables to make a living, but it did turn me off a bit. So, I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy yourself. However, if you're down by the river (but not in a van) and you fancy a quick, affordable meal, Billy Joe's is definitely your best bet.

The Hudson Valley has been craving for more places like this.  A co-worker of mine had suggested this place to me and told me that the food was really good.  The restaurant (both food and ambiance) was beyond what I had ever imagined.

We went on a Thur. night and we were seated immediately.  They have a decent draft beer selection, to include a few micro-brews.  I hope they turn over enough of the micro's to keep or expand their current selection.
We ordered some drinks and an app (Beer Boil peel and eat shrimp) and both were brought out almost immediately.  For dinner I had the Brisket which was mostly lean (I had asked the waiter if the Brisket was lean or marbled, I don't think he had any clue what I was talking about), smoked to perfection and topped with a sweet BBQ sauce that tasted great.  Had the Mac & Cheese and Sweet Fries as a side.  DW went with fried catfish and loved it and DD went with good ol' chicken fingers.  All of the portions were massive and we were stuffed when we left.

We can't wait to go back, in fact we're planning on taking my Sis and her hubby for lunch on Sunday.  The entire menu looked tasty and we can't wait to try some of the other offerings.

    Well Done!!!
