We truly enjoyed the setting of this bar. They don't have a huge menu, but it's enough to find something decent. We enjoyed our cocktails and the food was yummy. I had Chicken Parmesan and it was really awesome, didn't seem out of the freezer like so common. Mom had Fish & Chips....they were good, but I've had better.

Our server was great. I don't often ask for a description, but I was a little concerned about the chicken parm; he gave a great description of how it was prepared and it was very accurate. I will crave the spicy sauce for weeks!

Such a beautiful building. We appreciated the free 2 hour valet service. It's an unusual destination to try.

The Bird Dog is a standard bar at a college campus hotel - it's conventional with not a whole lot personality. $5 cocktail specials on Thursday nights help to offset the ordinariness. I was actually really pleased with service; the bartender gladly altered the menu's wild turkey old fashioned to my taste. Plus, when a bug decided to drown itself in my drink, he made me another so I was able to finish my drink sans insect. I'll probably return a couple more times during the summer when campus isn't as busy; but at the end of the day I'm not sure if the Bird Dog stands out enough to make me a regular.

Ive had lunch and dinner several times, and sat at the bar each time. I could not love it more.
For being a bar, they definitely have upscaled bar food items. Most recently, I had the Wedge Salad (& I'm a wedge connoisseur) and it was totally original and delicious. The bartenders have always provided amazing service; fast, friendly, funny.
It's also great people watching because you are adjacent to the lobby, and I've been lucky enough to watch both World Cup and Olympic soccer from their big flat screens.
When I'm in from out of town, I wouldn't go here if I want to really have a full dinner, but when I'm looking for comfort food with quality ingredients and fast service, this is the place.

Great atmosphere.  Having said that, that's about the only thing that's great here. Service was simply awful.  Everything took forever.  Worse yet, we *saw* her taking forever (going from server to server asking for change for our payment, going to bar to ask for change for our payment).  Our appetizer came out on the same tray as our entrees.  We kindly asked her to place our entrees in the back under the warmer so they wouldn't get cold as we ate our appetizer first (gasp, what a concept!)  The food was mediocre at best and certainly over-priced.

I was expecting soooo much more.

This was our first time eating there. Our group of eight ordered beer and 3 appetizers to start. Our beers took a while to come out. The waiter took a while to come back to take our food orders. We never did get our appetizers...they were taken off our bill. He never even checked to ask if we got them. The noise level is high but the atmosphere is good. Several vegetarian choices on the menu. Overall, the service was not good, but we were with friends so it we didn't mind waiting while we chatted.

The location is the best for a KU post game or weekend hang out.  The food is average.  I'd give it three stars and the bar is pricey.  The atmosphere is four star.  Service is friendly, usually college students.  A fun sports bar to watch the Jayhawks play and still have a conversation.  We go a few times a year.

This was my first time to the Bird Dog Bar.  Loved the layout and that it's right in the front door of the Oread.  We had a large table, good service and the food was good as well.  They have a great beer selection and the menu was impressive for a bar.

The Oread offers two hours free of valet, then $5 if you exceed that.  Pretty fair in my opinion since you are right on campus.

Great atmosphere, there were lots of players from the team there after the game.

We were a party of four standing around for 10-20 minutes at 11:50am but couldn't get a waitress to seat us. The lights and the TVs were on. We couldn't tell if they were open or not, even though there was staff walking around. The girl at the hotel front desk didn't know if the restaurant was open. Finally other people started coming in and we were seated. The server said they didn't have a soup of the day like the menu states. The menu items look okay, there is a weird, really long story about the owner's dog on every menu and the ice cream comes served in a dog dish.

The Chicken Fingers (fingers?) had a weird seasoning on them and were $10! My friend ordered the "Sustainable Farm Raised Tilapia Tacos" which were also $10 and not very good. We thought that it was funny though, to care about sustainable fish in a a bar themed after sport hunting with birddogs.

This place is inside the Oread hotel near KU's campus. There is also a high-end restaurant called Five 21 in the hotel.

Went to the Bird Dog for the first time tonight.  As many know The Oread is a magnificent building and fits well into a quality college town.

First off you should know parking in the neighborhood is a nightmare.  The only parking they provide is underground parking via a valet.  That kinda annoys me as I don't like giving away my keys to a stranger.

We sat outside, and it was a bit chilly.  I suspect they'll add some kind of heating units for outside.  The music was a bit loud for casual conversation.

Service was respectable, though our server was unclear on the menu, but apologized for being new.  That's fine.  We knew the beer selection was extremely high quality and I knew it was a changing menu.  I asked if the menu was correct and she said yes, but when the wrong beer was brought out, she didn't inform me in advance the stout brewery beer was replaced.  That's fine, but I would like to have known in advance of the beer being put on my table in order to give me another choice.

We started with some pretzel sticks with some spicy horseradish and cheese foundue dipping sauces.  The sauces were great, but the pretzel to sauce ratio was off.  We kinda spooned the sauces and ate them raw (blush).

I got the chili seasoned salmon and potatoe/green chili hash browns.  Mike got the nacho appetizer as a meal.

Both were very overcooked.  My hash brown was basically a pancake and the salmon was way overseasoned.  The nachos were overcooked so much that there was no melted cheese-most of the oil had cooked off and he was left with cheese crumbles and fossilized chicken chunks.  Nonetheless, they had potential and I'll chalk both up to a inattentive kitchen to a flaw overall in the restaurant.

The atmosphere was fun and we'll go back!

A wedding at Danforth Chapel offered an opportunity to revisit the Bird Dog Bar.  The food was quite good; patty melt with fries (although the menu states 8 oz. burgers, I think that's overstating things quite a bit, even pre-cooked) and Santa Fe chicken salad for the Mrs.  $2.75 Blvd. Irish Ale helped narrow down my choice of beer from their great selection.  Prices are average.  The place kept pretty busy while we were there watching K-State hit the end of their journey into the NCAA big dance.  Friendly, attentive waiter, at least until we were ready to wrap things up; maybe he was rooting for the Wildcats.  Anyways, still worth a return trip.

Our bartender was horrible. She had a lot of attitude for someone who is supposed to be very service-oriented for a new hotel. The drinks are WAY overpriced. The pizza was pretty good that we ordered from the bar, I think it came from the "Slice" place. I would say go try it out, and get a good feel for it. I've been twice. When my mom was with me, it was way better.

The Bird Dog has a good bar & grill atmosphere with a lot of TVs for sports.  The food is good, although a little pricey for what it is.  There is very good beer selection, both on draft and bottled.  Service was excellent.
