Jackpot Music Hall was really small for shows/concerts but cozy. Â I was here last night for the Dana Buoy and Youth Lagoon show. Â The stage wasn't big but it got the job done plus both groups were only two people each. Â There were bar stools surrounding the bar and a few benches on the side. Â A lot of people who came to watch the show were all standing near the stage. Â It was pretty crowded but luckily I was on the side bench right next to the stage so I managed to take some good pictures... at least I think they were good. lol
My friend bought a Guinness which was $5. Â I'm not sure if the prices were like that when there were shows or if it was just a Monday night thing.
Anyways, it got real hot inside with so many people standing close together.  I don't think there were enough ceiling fans or at least some kind of cooling system but I guess that's fine.  After all, that's part of the experience of being in a mosh pit even though I wouldn't call it a mosh pit for such a small place. lol  The acoustics of the place... well I don't think there was any acoustics.  They just had a bunch of speakers blasting which was on the verge of being deafening because of how small the entire room was.  I was behind one of the speakers so it wasn't as bad, but I've been to other shows at other venues where I was directly in front of the speaker.  That wasn't great.  The person in charge of setting up the electronics did a good job since there were no problems during the show.
Great show!
This is a very small but intimate venue.  You will not go here for the decor since I would imagine the last refurbishment took place during the Ford administration.  The beer selection was small but varied, but you are not going here to drink beer.  What you would go here for is music.  You will be up close to the band and packed in with humanity close to you.  I, however attended a smaller event.  This event was Burns Night, which  is a Scotish thing where poetry is read in an incomprehensible dialect, Celtic music was played, and Haggis was served.  I do reccomend the Haggis only if you are fond of liverwurst.
Review Source:Quite possibly my favorite place in the entire state of Kansas. Maybe the Midwest.
For concerts, it doesn't get much better in the Kansas City area. The small venue provides for intimate performances. I've seen the venue packed to the doors on several occasions (Bane, The Gories) and even from the back, the sightline is much better than most other venues. The large open standing room and the stage are very mosh and stagedive friendly, if that's your thing. The ceiling might need some repairs so stuff stops falling out whenever things get rowdy, but it just adds to the DIY charm of the place. Sound system is great and the sound guys really know what they're doing.
When they aren't hosting concerts, the Jackpot hosts a variety of other events, including movie marathons, NFL watch parties, videogame tournaments and chili cookoff's, just to name a few. It's never very crowded and all the bartender's are really friendly and make you feel welcome. No credit cards, only cash accepted at the bar! But they usually have some killer drink specials, from cocktails to cans.
If it's for a place to see a show, a place to hang out with friends, or anything in between, you can't go wrong with the Jackpot.
