One of the hottest cocktail hour destinations for the non-college crowd in town. It's a beautiful space, great design and lighting, including the unique, lit concrete bar counter. The strength of this bar is the main bartender who has been a fixture at the bar for a number of years. More than someone that just knows how to mix and serve drinks, he seems to know his food and the scene here and in Kansas City as well so makes for someone interesting to chat with if the crowd isn't too big.
Good selection of craft beers, wines and for me in particular, a respectable selection of single malts.
There's a bar menu and a nice selection of options. This evening we had the Roasted Marrow Crostini which was topped with avocado, thinly sliced radish and was accompanied by a small container of honey. Mouth bomb... marvelous.
In the summer the patio is a nice destination for a drink in the evening and on occasion they host live jazz. Definitely a date location or just a great place to enjoy the company of friends minus the noise that accompanies some other venues in the area.
Passing through Lawrence, I managed to find possibly the best cocktail lounge in all of Kansas. Â I came in wearing shorts and a t-shirt and found a seat directly at the bar. Â The bartenders are joke around with customers, themselves and with the manager every moment they get. It's so fun. Â The drinks are made and priced very well.
On this particular night, the special was on Martinis. Â So of course I watched my bartender make 15 in a row before I decided to try one. Â Processing this delicious gin martini, I followed that up with an old-fashioned, The Carlos Picante (mezcal, pineapple, cilantro, agave nectar and beer), Weedeater (rye, cherry, ginger, and orange), 8th Street Bourbon Press (fig-infused-bourbon and lemon-lime soda) and the Garden Variety Caipirinha. Â Impressive.
Amazing. Â Did NOT know Kansas has these quality-type bartenders. Â Keep em Pachamama's!
