I came here on a sunday expecting an Irish pub (as the front window says). Being a Sunday morning I expected it to be quieter than an Irish pub might be on a Saturday night, but it was too quiet. It was like a hospital recovery room or something. I even asked the waitress if there was usually no music and if it was always so quiet. "I don't know" she said. Maybe she's new.
Anyway, I got a club sandwich and it, was not a club sandwich. It was a chicken breast, with bacon and swiss cheese on marble rye. I guess its not a big deal, but it is also not a club sandwich. I did think their gimmickry was funny though. Everything is so plain and boring, but they try to spice it up by giving routine ingredients these silly names like "Blarney Mayo."
Overall, the food is incredibly boring. The sandwich was accompanied by maybe 7 or 8 "steak fries." It was not filling or tasty, but it did come with complimentary gas and bloating that has lasted all day.
If I could do it again, I would have gotten something at Wawa and skipped overpaying for something so boring.
Fair. Â Just fair. Â My girlfriend got the Fish and Chips, which was "award winning" (Maybe years ago). Â Fish was overcooked and basic Sysco grade. Â I got the Shepherds Pie, it was quite good though. Â The staff was attentive. Â It was a Sunday night, so the joint was deader than John Candy. Â I was looking to do some drinking, but just couldn't get in the mood. Â I couldn't bring myself to give 3 stars based on the subpar food.
Review Source:We stopped in for dinner around 6:30pm on a Saturday night with my wife and children. The location is excellent in downtown Fredericksburg. We waited at the door for about 5 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was almost empty. The Wait staff was not the most inviting and maybe just having a tough night but we were finally told to sit anywhere. Service was painfully slow. My wife had a burger, I had the chicken and my kids had the Fish and Chips. They were out of brown bread for the night and we received no substitute. Fish and chips were good, chicken was dry, obviously precooked then reheated, and the burger was awful, I mean day old, precooked awful. It took an hour and a half to get served and get out. Dinner menu was way overpriced for the quality of food.
I understand the lunch might be better. After the service we received, I doubt we will be eating there again. Might stop in for a pint and enjoy the Irish music but unless they change the service and quality of food, we will not be eating there again. Many better options when looking to eat out in downtown Fredericksburg.
I've never eaten here, so I have no idea what the food is like, but its a great Irish bar to go have a drink and watch a game (especially a rugby game) with friends. Everyone is welcome and fits in here, college kids, locals, anyone who enjoys drinking at an Irish bar. Its reasonably priced and I love the dollar bills you can sign and put up, just adds to the community feel of this place.
Review Source:I'm giving this two stars as a benefit-of-the-doubt since it has stayed in business in a business district where I assume the rent and/or property tax would seem to put a place out of business if it couldn't reliably pull customers in. We were just in town for the afternoon, and we stopped here just for a beer. Bad impressions, though. You walk in, it's pretty dim and dank-looking, and all the chairs and tables look about 30 years old. Besides the beer, we ordered sausage rolls, an alleged Irish dish (sausage wrapped in a flaky pastry) that was deep-fried, a practice I don't think is Irish in its origin. I don't think we'll be back, but I blame myself: I never, until this, have gone into a place called anything remotely like (drawing on Irish cliches) "The Blarney Stone." My visit here demonstrates that it's a good policy.
Review Source:My friend and I wanted Fish and Chips, so we went to The Blarney Stone yesterday afternoon. We stood up front waiting to get a seat in an empty dinning room for about five min. When a couple that where already sitting, told us that the server would tell us to sit where ever. So we sat our selves and waited another five mins before he came out again. When he saw us finally, he was very friendly and answered all of our questions and made recommendations, which we choose.
We both got the fish and chips, were not worth the money! Even though it was a big piece of fish they put hardly any chips with it and no cole slaw like it had been described on the menu. The fish was dry and tasted like they had made it the night before and the fries were cold. We were not impressed and will not be going back.
Weekend in Baltimore(ptooie!) at sister in law's. Took a day trip with my hound down to Fredericksburg for the day. What a charming little town. And what a quaint place to get food. I had the Blarney Burger with Dubliner cheese. Cooked perfectly, massive, lots of chips and three condiments on the side were a thoughtful addition. Prompt, friendly, and cheap. All the other places in town were sort of pricey, so this was a great find. Would be good for a family gathering or a first date. When you walk out of that old timey eatery onto the old timey streets, you really lose track of the year. Then a horse drawn carriage rolls by....Why would you pay Disney $100 for the same experience in a crap hole like Florida? All hail Virginia!
Review Source:Awful service. Â We weren't greeted, and had to find our own tables and menus, of which there were two different versions. Â The waitress was complacent and indifferent. Â When we asked if there were appetizers, she said they were on a third menu. Â We ordered the wings which were greasy and flavorless. Â All in all, a bad dining experience.
Review Source:Stopped in to eat as it is very close to train station. Neat place with lots of interesting decorations. The food was OK. Irish breakfast was good. Fish and chips was poor, but at least the curry gave it some flavor. Bread pudding was actually pretty good, nice taste with real whipped cream. But all of the dishes were very overpriced. Â Nice service. Otherwise not a lot of other choices on the menu. Probably not worth another trip back.
Review Source:Visited this restaurant on Saturday, February 4th. Â While the restaurant had few customers, the service was very VERY slow. Â When we were able to order, the kitchen was out of three items on the menu. Â It was 8pm. Â After a mediocre dinner we were given the check and then promptly asked to leave as the server wanted to clean the dining room. Â This was quite possibly one of the worst dining experiences our group has ever had. Â I do not and will not suggest this place to a single person. Â I will be sure to convey my experiences to anyone that asks if I've heard of the place.
Review Source:I stopped at this place on a whim one weekend in the fall, never having been to Fredericksburg before, and I found it to be a pretty interesting place... and in a cute area too. There weren't many people here on an early evening, and so we were seated and ordered our food quickly. We started off with potato and leek soup. I am a sucker for potato anything.... and the soup was great. I dream of eating it again, it was honestly my favorite part.
I had the fish & chips, my husband had the shepherd's pie. I got the curry sauce with my fish, and honestly I don't think I could've eaten it without it. It tasted good with the fish and gave it some flavor. The fish was perfectly good, but it came at a hefty price. My husband enjoyed his meal and had plenty left over.
Overall it was an interesting place. I'd drive up again just for the soup, if they still have it.
Having kissed the real Blarney Stone in Ireland, my wife and I might have chosen this restaurant for that reason. Another reason is that we like Irish Pubs. Either way, we decided to eat here while visiting Fredericksburg, VA. I did not have any Irish food; I decided instead to get the Blarney Burger which is a pretty good hamburger with fries. Anyhow, I was happy with my choice. The wait for the food did take a little longer then one would expect, however not too bad. This place was fun and the food was good. Next time I'm in Fredericksburg I think we will definitely comeback here. Also, we might try the bar and live music too.
Review Source:I've eaten at this restaurant a number of times. Â The food is actually pretty good. Â However, the quality of the service has been steadily declining, and it's finally reached the level where I don't think I'll ever be going back to this place. Â The last time I was there, the servers were pleasant but absolutely awful when it came to things such as checking on the table or refilling drinks. Â In addition, it took 2 hours for the kitchen to get our lunch order ready and delivered to the table - with no explanation for the long wait time. Â After waiting all this time, some of the food was warm while some was not and several in our group of 5 had items missing from their orders. Â The missing items were brought to the waitress' attention and she was very apologetic, but these things never did appear. Â We did get billed for them, though! Â As I've mentioned, the food here is not bad, but it's not worth the hassle you have to put up with in order to obtain it.
Review Source:I love this pub. Every member of the bar staff has introduced themselves to me and remembers my name. Drink prices are more than fair, and the food is good too. They make everybody feel welcome. Gets pretty hopping on the weekends, and has an awesome neighborhood feel during the week when you come in. If you haven't been here and you like pubs, you're not doing very well at living life..
Review Source:We used a http://Restaurant.com voucher here and everything went just smoothly. Service was great, thanks Aaron, and the food was absolutely delicious. Try the Mussels Malone app and the trio sampler, Shepard's pie, fish and chips and beef stew, it was great. There is a pub to the rear of the restaurant and Graham(sp?) serves up some great drinks, try the Long Beach. There is a also a smoking area connected to the pub.
All in all the experience was fantastic and we would definitely go there again when next in this area. I highly recommend it as a casual and relaxing time with great food and drinks.
It was a hot day in August after a somewhat confusing drive from DC and we happened upon an Irish Oasis in the middle of downtown Fredericksburg. Â It was cool, quiet and the food was delicious. Â Our waitress was a delight and we emerged invigorated - ready to shop, sight see and get exhausted all over again.
If you are in Fredericksburg, be sure and visit and that's no blarney!
This place was really cool and I'm glad I got to experience it. Â I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to get the feel & comfort of a local pub. Â You walk through the dining area to get to the bar in the back. Â The bar looks like something you might expect to see in the movies The Departed or The Town. Â I will definitely be stopping by when back in the area...hopefully with more friends...
Review Source:First of all I am SO GLAD there is no more smoking allowed, I enjoy Blarney Stone (and many other places) much more now. The food is really good here. I love the corned beef sandwich. I have had a couple of incredible house-made desserts here too, the selection varies. I also love the potato leek soup, the cheese plate, and so on. They have live music some nights and that's a lot of fun. I particularly enjoy the Irish comedy playing on the bathroom speaker! The prices are kind of high but you will find that with most places downtown. The service has always been excellent and very welcoming. UPDATE: I take my kiddos here often, they love it. It doesn't look like a kids place but I see kids in there often and the staff is super.
Review Source:I went to the Blarney Stone last night for dinner while I was visiting Frederickburg and was very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside and the front room doesn't look like a pub at all, but once you get back to the small bar in the back room, any regular pub-goer will feel right at home.
They have five or six draft beers--definitely Harp, Guinness, Smithwick's and a few others I can't recall. I ordered a Woodchuck cider on draft. I'm always happy when I can find cider on tap. It was a very reasonable $4 (usually $6-8 in establishments closer to DC). Then I had a bowl of their Irish stew, which I can't say enough good things about. It was thick and rich and piping hot with carrots, potatoes, huge chunks of meat and with none of the bitter aftertaste the Guinness sometimes leaves when I've had stew other places. It was served with a chunk of brown bread, which was likewise warm and very fresh.
This isn't a gournet place--it's a typical pub with typical pub fare. The couple sitting next to me had an appetizer sampler platter that looked mostly fried and they told me it was fantastic. I wasn't really there to socialize--I just wanted a quick bite to eat, but it seemed like a very friendly place, with strangers chatting at the bar.
The service was equally good. My drink and food were both served promptly. I will definitely go back to this laid-back, low-key, but very competent pub.
