Blurr Bistro and Ultra Lounge

Like another poster, I can't comment on the restaurant portion of this place as I've only experienced the "ultra lounge", not the "bistro". :)

Completely unimpressed, there is nothing "ultra" about this place. They started off as an upscale lounge type of place but like do many places in NN, it has quickly spiraled downward. The crowd is classless, tacky and loud, lines to get in are way too long considering what an awful experience awaits you.

Unfortunately NN really doesn't offer many other options for nightlife but I recommend steering clear of this place.

I can't comment during the day hour events, but the club experience was terrible. The types of alcohol was very limited. The bartender could only make very simple drinks. The floor was warped heading to the restroom area and the restroom was very dirty. I won't be returning here.

Blurr is a cool little spot in Newport News that prides itself on blurring the lines between how it is defined. Is it a cocktail place? Is it a restaurant? A late bar? Blurr definitely aims for all of these, and also has a nice lunch menu that is too often overlooked by the lunch crowd. Perhaps this owes to its location which is on Pilot House Drive off Jefferson. Truthfully, the food is really good and very reasonably priced. I think this gets overshadowed a bit by its reputation as a great late night hang-out spot. I recommend their Cuban Sandwich--while they didn't quite get the bread right, the flavor-blending concept they nailed.

The late night crowd is an eclectic mixture. Fortunately many of the menu items are still available at this time, and this has made it a good go-to for a late night meal. The music is typically clubby dance music mixed with top 40 hits. On Thursdays they usually have a band, which is a bit hit or miss. Either way, Blurr is a cool spot worth going to.
