The atmosphere is great! Tons of TVs everywhere for all your sports watching needs. I love all the beer signs, I want to take some home with me. There is a patio area that allows your dog to join you. Inside there is tons of room for groups to sit together. They also have quite a large bar area if you just need a drink.
Boondoggles is one of the best places to get beer in the Clear Lake area. They have a large selection and try to rotate it as often as possible. They have about 15 taps with a good bottle list as well.
Not only do they have a good beer menu but also a good food menu. They are known for their pizza in the wood burning oven and you can't go wrong with any of them. I love classic pizzas so the Margherita pizza is my favorite. But my family also loves the Robusto. We tried the wings for the first time this weekend and they were great! I would compare them to real Buffalo from Buffalo, NY. I also tried the ceviche while was very tangy with lime juice and is full of shrimp and scallops. We also love the pizza chips. They are the perfect appetizer with beer since they are cheesy and salty. I love both the ranch and tomato dipping sauces and are really good mixed.
Parking is a little crazy. I suggest you pull into the parking lot from Lakeshore (the interestion nearest the restaurant on Nasa Pkwy). This will put you closest to the most parking. If you pull into the parking lot right off Nasa you will have to zig zag throughout the lot to find a spot as many of the other restaurants have reserved many of those spots.
They have a great beer selection. I had the dunkel and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was also great. The stuffed jalapeños were awesome to start with and the Tejas pizza was great. My fiancé had a Caeser salad and she was very happy with it. Probably one of the best places for some good bar food. Also has a nice view of the water.
Review Source:I've never sat inside Boondoggle's because it often smells fishy inside, but I love their patio with a nice little view of the bay! Nice craft beer selection for the area, only bested by Nobi Public House. Most of their beers can be purchased at Spec's so unless you're feeling like paying double or triple for a beer out with your buds, I wouldn't bother.
Consistently good service and knowledgeable servers. Great tasting pizzas, bruschetta, and fried pickles. The nachos are kind of meh.
They skimp a bit on the pizza toppings- particularly the Primavera. I expected a veggie-loaded pie, but mine arrived with a very scant amount of zucchini and mushrooms which were very finely chopped and piled in the middle. I suspect they may be using a frozen mix. For $11, I certainly expected more.
I feel that this place is a bit overpriced for the type of food served. The quality is relatively high, but it's not a place I can afford to go to often.
My favorite place in Clear Lake! Â Great selection of beer, fantastic pizza, and... THURSDAY CRAB NIGHT! Â
Everything here is good (I've probably had the entire menu at least twice!), but the pizza (the Robusto) is my personal favorite. Â The nachos are a close second, they're enormous! Â Wednesday nights are Big Ass Beer night - do it!
It's close to my house, has a big beer selection and I almost never go there because the service is so reliably bad. Good deal on big beers on Wednesdays. Tejas pizza with goat cheese and chorizo is yummy when they don't burn it. Sometimes they burn it, and staff and management are offended when that is pointed out to them.
Review Source:What's not to love about Boons? I probably come here on average once a week.
The food is great. My favorites are the John Dough pizza, bruschetta (seriously good), and the ceviche. Don't forget to ask for the free popcorn! And on Wednesdays it's 'big ass beer night' - so you can get a larger oz. beer for the price of a regular one. They have other specials throughout the week too: Mondays are steak night, Thursdays are crab legs, crawfish (when in season).
The prices are very reasonable and the service is quick. The beer selection is great and they are always getting new seasonal brews in. The patio is first come, first serve and the indoor seating is nice too. They have dart boards that are open on nights when they aren't too busy.
They also have a place to tie up if you want to come by boat!
My only complaint is sometimes the service can just be okay - but for the most part they are on top of it!
Boondoggle's is my favorite place in Clear Lake with out question.
Let's start with their beer selection:
1. Best draft selection anywhere
2. Always getting in new seasonal brews
3. Always cold and never flat
Now for the food:
1. Easily the best pizza I've encountered in the area (75% of the time I order pizza here)
2. Haven't had an appetizer I didn't love (Fried Mushrooms or Pickles are my go to t)
3. Have never had or known anyone I've taken here to not love what they ordered
I find myself in boondoggles usually at least once a week if not more than that.
I suggest you adopt a similar habit....
This was one the biggest disappoints in very long time. I have heard great things about Boondoggle's for a few years, and the reviews on Yelp have been mostly good. So my husband and I gave it try. The wait person was friendly and the place had comfortable atmosphere.
I ordered the Pizza Primavera and my husband ordered a burger with chips. The food arrived quickly. Maybe too quickly. The Pizza wasn't hot. The crust was heavy and soft, like a frozen pizza, and the cheese was melted like it should be. The problem I had with the Pizza was it seem like the crust and sauce were cooked ahead of time and the small amount of chopped vegetables, which were bunched up in the center, were raw. There is no way the the vegetables should be raw in an oven hot enough to cook Pizza. Usually when I order Pizza I have had to wait for it cool down to avoid the famous Pizza hurt. This didn't have that kind of temperature.
The burger was only warm and the chips were over cooked.
This is probably a good beer drinking place, because without a few beers I don't see how anyone could enjoy the food. You might ask why we didn't send the food back. Because I don't want them handling my food after a complaint.
My other issue with this Bar eatery is that they use straws without paper covering, which means the straws are handled with dirty hands. Yuck! We won't be back.
Honestly, my favorite restaurant in the Clear Lake area, and well, ok, the world probably.
I have no idea why I haven't written a review yet. Perhaps I didn't think I could do it justice.
Best description of Boondoggles: I have never had or been with someone who has had anything that wasn't great.
My favorite:
Spicy Chicken Wings (16), basket of fries, and a cold beer. (get an extra cup of buffalo sauce for even more friendly fire)
Why?
Chicken wings: real chicken wings, not the tiny pigeon wings that Buffalo WWs gives you, but large thick, perfectly crisped and sauced.
French Fries? Best anywhere in the world. Trust me.
Texas Tuesday: $0.35 wings is even better
Other greats:
Wood fired pizza is amazing.
Quattro Formaggio is my favorite.
I've had the John Dough (pepperoni), Jambalaya (lots of stuff), Margherita, Robusto and Mediterranean and loved them all.
Ceviche: delicious and fresh.
Fried Pickles: good portion. Very good.
Bruschetta: they've changed and it is very filling and full of flavors.
Chicken Strips: kids love them and so do adults
Fish & Chips: The best my wife or I have ever had. Â The breading has an amazing browned crisp that is full of flavor and has a soft breading under the crisp. The fish is perfectly flakey.
40+ beers on draft.
Great pub atmosphere with tons of TVs for sports, outdoor tables with bar and large flat screen.
Don't forget Crawfish time. Great spice and portions.
The Best of the Best.
Love me some Boondoggles!
This has been a mainstay of the Clear Lake / Seabrook area for a decade or more. Â Their particular strengths are service (always fast and friendly), beer selection (huge draft selection, plus some hard-to-find bottles), and brick oven pizza. Â Other positive features include TV's in every corner, very comfy atmosphere (wooden interior, high ceilings, some areas to seat large groups, intimate bar, lots of picnic tables out on the porch in the shade). Â They also have a warm hearth/fireplace and free popcorn.
Their biggest positive is a fresh and plentiful beer selection, be sure to ask what is seasonal. Â And last I was there, they serve all the microbrews from Houston (St. Arnold, No Label, Karbach, Southern Star, etc.)
The location is good, it's a bit behind a building from NASA Parkway so it's an awkward turn into the parking lot. Â They have a lot of parking, but it will fill up during happy hour almost every day of the week.
During the spring months, they'll cook out crab legs and crawfish fresh in the parking lot for a good price (and great quality).
My only complaint would be the crowds (so don't go here, LOL). Â It can get a little cramped inside and sometimes, as I said, parking is full. Â They share a lot with another wine bar and seafood restaurant (be sure not to park in a reserved spot).
Outside of the pizza, the rest of their menu is average, not bad, but not outstanding.
This place was the highlight of our mini break to the brown coastal waters of HTown, Texas. Not only is the service stellar, but the food is wonderful too!
Do yourself a favor and order the jalapenos off the appetizer menu-- wow and wow.
My BF said he's never had a better stuffed jalapeno and that's saying a lot coming from a guy who eats them on the regular.
I had fish and chips --- off the hook. Lookie there, a pun!
But seriously, it was a really great meal (enough for two meals really).
We happened to sit on the patio for a view of the water. Â It was very nice but the indoor space looked great too! They also had really good drink specials on Sunday, when we went.
Great service, yummy noms, and good drinks .... you really ought to go!
Nothing ever changes here. Â Which I love. Â The location is almost right on the water. There is a large brick patio with a small bar as you walk up. Inside is all wood with a fireplace. The dinning area has high ceilings with some tables scattered about. Some dart boards as well. The wood bar runs along the right. Just a handful of TV's and low music playing. A very chill place when I stopped in for an early lunch. Though I have been here at peak hours, and it still never gets to over crowded. Â Family friendly as well.
Service is attentive and friendly. The bar is well maintained, and the kitchen is prompt. I wish the quality was a bit better (beer taps). Some old taps and soapy taps are not uncommon. The food is good. Pizzas are big here, but that is not the only thing on the menu. Some killer appetizers like bruschetta and ceviche along with the more typical pub grub.
Lots of taps that caters to all tastes. Â One of the first places in the Houston area (along with Gingerman) to be a true beer bar. Â Though other places like Hay Merchant and Petrol Station have recently passed them up. Â Still plenty of good options. Â Saint Arnold, Real Ale, Deschutes, Stone, Anchor, Lagunitas etc. Â They will do a cask every once in a while. Â Usually something from Saint Arnold.
I always enjoy Boondoggles. A great atmosphere, good beers and food. Very unpretentious. What a good pub should be, it is hard to ask much more out of a local pub.
I was pleasantly surprised with the decent pricing and good food. Â I have heard of this place but never been to it until recently. Â I'll agree with Farrah that they have quite a nice selection of beers, though I don't drink beer. Â What was much more important was the wide variety of unique pizzas! Â We had the jambalaya pizza and an order of fried pickles. Â I hadn't had fried pickles in quite a while, and was impressed with the flavor. Â The pizza was really tasty with crayfish and shrimp! Â Between the pizza and an appetizer it was plenty to share for dinner for two for about $20. Â I'm looking forward to giving this place another go when I'm on the SE side of town.
Review Source:Ahh! Must try the fried pickle chips! Â I didn't see them on the lunch menu, but saw some reviews that mentioned them. Â They are probably my favorite fried pickles ever!! Â The fish tacos were good and I would also recommend the wings. This is a great place for a lunch, but I'm guessing its even more chill for happy hour time. Â I heard Thursdays are snow crab night - DEFINITELY coming back to try that out!
Review Source:Hooray Boondoggles! My husband and I just moved to this area and a coworker turned me on to this place after our bonding moment over a love of craft beer. We went on a Friday night and it was way crowded and the parking lot is a death trap. But finally we squeezed in to what we collectively decided was a parking spot (?) and headed in. They have a nice patio overlooking the little bay that comes in. Inside its a huge brick room with big wooden tables. There is a wood fire grill that creates delicious pizza. The bar is in one corner with a great selection of beers on tap and in the bottle. Lots of homage paid to St Arnolds, which I am totally okay with. Knowledgable bartenders who are friendly and like to offer up samples.
Our server was a little off... she was new and when she forgot to bring our appetizer, she just said "oh I forgot"... no sorry, no can I bring to you now? or to go? or offer you a free dessert? Just "I forgot". Ok yeah we figured that one out ourselves. Therefore, I subtracted a star.
The pizza was really good. I got the white pizza, a friend got one with canadian bacon and lots of stuff and they were both good. They had names but I cant remember. Did I mention there was a lot of beer going around? The burger was just ok, nothing worth remembering.
Come here for pizza and beer. Really, why would you go for anything else anyway?
Boondoggle's is a great casual place to meet up with friends. I love the bar area for an intimate setting if I am just going out with my husband. The outdoor area is great when the weather has cooled off.
The drink selection is wide, and their food is delicious. I love their fried pickles, burgers, and poboys. Everyone raves about their pizza, but I'm not a fan.
Nice pub near the water with pretty good bar food! Â I went on my lunch break, so obviously I couldn't bother being tempted by the beer menu, but everybody says they have a great selection. Â
I ordered the mediterranean pizza and it was delicious- the goat cheese gave it fantastic flavor. Â My friend recommended next time ordering it extra crispy, which I'd never thought about doing before. Â Great idea, can't wait to go back and try more of the menu!
My absolute favorite bar in the area.
They have a huge draft selection and waitstaff and bartenders that know it. I'm a big cider person and they always have at least two or three ciders on draft.
The pizza is phenomenal and they have lots of good crunchy drunk food. Â The patio is a great place to hang out on a Friday or Saturday night.
The only cautiion I would give is that be ready for a long wait if you go on Friday or Tuesday evening. Tuesday is "Big Dog Beer" (a larger beer for the same price) Â night and gets it gets pretty packed!
Love Boons!
First time for BEER! Â Second time for Food & BEER!!
After kayaking next door at Pinky's Kayak Rentals, http://www.yelp.com/biz/…, I stopped in here to get out of the sun and refuel after burning a few calories paddling down the bayou. Â
Place has a pub type feel to it. Â Brick everywhere with a great big long wood bar. Â They have a really nice beer selection, so I indulged myself with a few of my favorites to cool down the first time I was in. Â Just chilled at the bar, chatted with the nice bartender, and wrote in my journal about my paddle. Â
I liked the paddle and place so much, I told my friends about it and we ended up having one of their parties there. Â Again spent the day paddling, then jump out of our boats and walked a few step to this place. Â This time I did grab some grub. Â A few of us shared the following:
Fried Pickles ($ 5.95 Dill pickle chips coated and deep fried served with ranch)
Nice and crispy without being too greasy. Â
Pizzas: Â Florentine ($ 10.95 Romano, parmesan & provolone cheese artichoke hearts, spinach, and eggplant with a white sauce) and Primavera ($ 9.95 Romano & provolone cheese, red peppers, garlic, mushroom, sun dried tomatoes, zucchini, and red onion.)
Both were good, but we really loved the Florentine!!
Definitely a place to stop if you're in that area!!
Atmosphere: Â :) :) :) :)
Service: Â :) :) :)
Food: Â :) :) :) :)
Boondoggle's is a great casual place to grab a few drinks and conversation. I love how it's so spacious, but it gets really packed on a good night! The beer selection is the kind where you'll really need a few minutes to even scan them all, which is always a good sign.
Next time I'll be back for the Pizza!
"Boondoggle's" is just as much fun to say as it is to actually hang out there. It's a lakeside bar, which I like. Great energy, great crowd and great fire baked pizzas!
They've got a good selection of craft beers. I dabbled around and eventually found a really good Czech brew along with Saint Arnold Santo (highly rec). This place has a mixed feel of a patio bar and a restaurant. There were families inside (yes, even kiddos) and then the after-work happy hour groups like my little entourage - kickin' it outside. And there were lots of dogs, too; love that Boondoggle's is pup-friendly. Â
Parking is a plenty. Servers were prompt, and did I mention the pizza was good? Don't forget an order of fried pickles and tater skins.
Nice watering hole with good pizza.
The draught beer selection is quite extensive and cosmopolitan in range with a healthy representation by Texas brewers. One would expect the Saint Arnold choices to be greater given their proximity to the brewery, but that was not the case.
The service can leave something to be desired. We went twice during our extended weekend trip and got marginal attention from the beer wenches on both occasions. It seemed that if we were not college kids or lonesome business men, then the service was basic.
During our second visit, we were seated in the fireplace hearth. It was very cozy. The brick walls and projected mantle dampened the noise from the rest of the room quite a bit. Highly recommended for couples looking for intimacy.
One downer was that they floated two beers that were prominently featured. The first was New Belgium 1554, which had just been tapped the night before; the other was Real Ale Full Moon Rye, tagged as "recommended". One would assume the latter to be in abundant supply. I will cut them a little slack on the deficit though, given that it was the last weekend of Spring Break and the place was packed both nights we were there.
Overall an enjoyable pub. The food was good, the atmosphere inviting and the beer selection offered many choices.
(visited: evening, 20110318 and 19)
This is just a review for the new private party room. We came here for a private engagement party; never went in the bar area, just the upstairs private room. Which was REALLY nice!!
You don't even have to go in the bar to get to the private room, you go in the front door and to the left is a cool twisty wooden staircase that takes you upstairs (trust me...be careful going down if you have on heels and have had a couple drinks...unless you have better balance than me! lol).
There is a little bar up there and a private bathroom (score!!) and it's done in wood with about 7 little tables and extra chairs. I'm not sure how many people it's supposed to hold...maybe 50 tops? It's not real big.
They provided the pizza and yes, this is some DANG good pizza!!! Nice crispy crust, lots of interesting toppings and extremely yummy! I would definitely come back for the pizza! Although I'm not sure if they were regular size because of them being catered, but for the prices listed on their website ($10-$12) they were a little small. They were good, but a little small. Or maybe I was just really hungry?
Anyway it's a very cool little private room; if you're in need of one, I would most definitely recommend this one. Oh! And the bartender upstairs (I wish I remembered her name...) was amazing!! She was fantastic and if the other bartenders downstairs are even HALF as good as her then definitely come here for great service!
Option 1: stay home with a horrible hangover. Option 2: take a day trip out to Kemah with a friend.
I chose option 2 and feel the right decision was made. He lived in Seabrook a few years ago & took me to one of the favorite hangouts, Boondoggles. I already liked it by the name alone because it's fun to say.
It was kind of tricky to get there because it's located on the other side of Kemah, positioned under the bridge. Actually, this would probably be a great place to visit at night because you have a direct view of the boardwalk, docks, and all the boat traffic.
Since we were there on a weekday, it was pretty empty inside & out. Most people were sitting on the patio, which is exactly where we chose to sit overlooking the water. Bench seating, very open patio, and I think have the option to close it in if it gets too windy. Their wait staff was friendly & attentive. The food was good, above average for pub food. I had catfish & veggies - no complaints there. I also ordered a margarita that was so good I ordered another just to make sure.
More than anything I enjoyed the atmosphere. Boondoggles has a real beachy feel to it, more than any restaurant across the waterway. The crowd is more laid back than the Kemah crowd as well. I went casual & felt dressed up. I'll be back next time I'm in the area for sure.
This is definitely THE happy hour place for NASA folk -- which is why I usually tend to avoid it during the happy hour. Then again I am low on the totem pole, maybe I should consider going more often...
Boondoggles is really a great place for some pub grub and a few drinks. The food is really outstanding for a pub -- I mean really outstanding -- the pizza is fantastic! They also have a pretty decent beer selection, outdoor seating, nonsmoking inside, and great service.
A few weeks ago I planned a pub crawl/scavenger hunt in the Clear Lake area for my best friend's bachelorette party (we wanted to stay close to home) and we started the night off at Boondoggles. I felt so bad for our waitress -- 7 girls all dressed in matching shirts with bright pink sparkly bags ordering drink after drink and bugging all the patrons -- but she was really great to us and even filled our matching pink water bottles up with ice cold water so we could stay hydrated throughout the evening.
I really like Boondoggles for a nice afternoon weekend lunch. What's better than sitting outside at a wooden picnic table, drinking a beer, eating delicious pizza, and watching whatever sports game is in season on TV? Not much that I can think of. If you're in the Clear Lake area you should definitely check this place out.
I love you crawfish...and they got 'em and they are fantabulous. I love my cajun food and this place brings it good and spicy (well during season). The wood fired pizza looks really good too.
Everytime I come here i see someone i know which is kinda eh, iffy..and this pub gets really crowded on weekends and nights that they offer specials...But i love their beer selection, i like coming here in the 2 months we have cold weather, relaxing by the fire and drinking some woodchuck cider :)
Boondoggle: from Wikipedia, (project) - slang term for a scheme that wastes time and money
Boondoggle is a simple, extruded plastic lace, many people refer to as gimp! Â Why, in France, it's called Scooby-doo!
Founded in US Boy Scouts' jargon, or possibly the slang of cowboys, 'boondooggle' is now a useful political term.
Actually, it's a great place to hangout, get a pizza or a calzone and a beer. (Steer away from the limited wine selection.) The seating outside is family friendly during the day/early evening. But it gets crowded on weekend nights. Haven't been for the crab legs and sprimp special on Thurs nights cause I gotta work Friday mornings and that would make it way too difficult to get up! But I heard its good dirty fun.
If it's the week before Christmas and you're:
a) dying to run in to people who went to Clear Lake High School
b) looking for a place to grab a Shiner and some pizza
c) watching a big game of some sort and the couch isn't cutting it
...then Boondoggles is the place.
Tucked away at the edge of El Lago and a bit too close to the police station for some people's taste, it's lasted longer than any of its next door neighbors. Always full and fun, this a better option than Sherlock's or Molly's. Then again, maybe I'm biased since it's technically stumbling distance from my parents' house (if it weren't in the 'burbs where no one walks anywhere, that is).
