Borinquen Restaurant

EVERY TIME I TRY THIS PLACE it's one bad experience after another. I ordered my food at 3. They called me at 3:25 saying the food is ready but there's an extra $2 for delivery based on my area. I told them I should've been notified from the beginning. These people DO NOT KNOW CUSTOMER SERVICE. So they say they will waive the fee. It is now....4:20 and I still have not received my food. It's ridiculous. I called to ask about my delivery and I was told he left at 3:30 and had three deliveries. So...my food has just been sitting in a car for 50 minutes? Are you kidding me? So I ask well is my food going to be cold? She said for me to check the food and if it's cold I can send it back....and i guess ultimately NOT EAT.

Un real.

Ps. It's 4:23....and it's still not here.

4:39 he just found the place. the girl that I just spoke to at Borinquen told me that IT WAS NOT HER PROBLEM!

I have been here plenty of times and the only reason I go back is for the FOOD and ONLY the FOOD. The only reason I am writing this review is so that hopefully they read it and FIX their customer service ! It was the Friday after Valentine's day and my husband and I decided we wanted some food. We don't really live by so it is a treat when we have time to travel to this restaurant. I have to admit its our guilty and unhealthy pleasure, so if you're trying to eat healthy this probably isn't the place. So we arrive and it is pretty full and we ended sitting at one of the larger tables because the rest of the smaller ones were already occupied. The waitress takes our order and we begin the wait for our food. It seemed like it took a lot longer than it usually does to receive our food. We FINALLY get our food after 45mins or so and begin eating our jibarito and rice. About two bites into our food the waitress asks us if we could move to a smaller table because a large party had just walked in. We both thought she was joking or something but she was completely serious. So we moved right across to a smaller table for 4 people( Thats the smallest they have). We were originally sitting at a table for 6, but keep in mind she sat us there. So we move already annoyed that we had too and then we see the party of 4 walk in. Ummmm correct me if I am wrong but she moved us to a table of 4 SO they would have fit there and we DIDN'T need to move. So according to her a large party consists of 4 people who cannot sit at an open table for 4 why?! My husband and I were so astonished that she made us move for 4 people that would have fit at the table she moved us too!! It was SO RUDE ! We thought maybe she will not charge us for drinks or something nice, but no she didn't nor did she help us move our food. Then paying was another hassle it takes another 30 mins waiting in line because they are so understaffed. We could have probably dined and dashed if we really wanted too.  Honestly the ONLY reason I go back is for the food. Service is TERRIBLE and well the place needs a makeover or something. But if you want good food and nothing else go here because you will not get anything else.

I've never had authentic Puerto Rican food, so I might not be the best judge of this place.  I really do believe Puerto Rican food is better than this.  Everything was just kind of bland and greasy.  

I visited on a week night with a group of friends.  We ordered a few different appetizers, and I ordered the vegetarian jibarito.  I expected maybe some sauteed onions and peppers on the plantain, but sandwiched in between the plantain was a slice of American cheese, iceberg lettuce, and a pasty tomato slice.  I ate the plantain because it was crisp and delicious.  

We ordered: Alcapurrias, Stuffed Potato Balls, Mofongo, and a fried fish dish.  None of it was very good.  I tried everything but didn't care for the flavor.  I felt like everything was deep fried and stuffed with ground beef.  

It could be just me though... you might love the food!

The different sodas were good.  I loved the coconut soda.
