Scofflaw is one of my favorite speakeasy bars not just in Chicago but in the US. Â The bartenders take great pride in their craft and have extensive knowledge which they willingly share with their patrons. Â On my recent visit, I had an old school gin cocktail called a Martinez that was exquisite. Â This place is very unassuming and laid back to which I have returned several times.
Review Source:Dimly lit atmosphere with a fireplace, sofas, and classic R&B music...you know what that means? SOMEBODY GONE' GET PREGNANT. Or you're at Scofflaw.
Aside from it being small, loud-ish, and always being in someones way when standing, it's a pretty chill place. The beer list is adequate. You have to hover over people until they leave to find a seat. Or you can just sit on them. I'm sure they wont mind. I was fortuitous enough to gain a small coffee table and really uncomfortable chairs with a friend. I've only tried the french fries, but for what its worth, they were quite good.
Worth checking out.
Finally! A hip bar that doesn't have an air of cultural and moral superiority! Between the unique accouterments, artisan cocktails and friendly staff, this bar definitely lives up to its reputation. A word of warning, however... either get there on a weeknight or very early on the weekend. It's not uncommon for lines to be out the door by late evening.
