I enjoy a rowdy (and somewhat cheesy) good time, so this was one of my favorite places.
I haven't been there for a while now since I moved out of state, but I still hold some very fond memories and hope someday to find a similar place near me.
It has something for everyone - pool tables, dart boards and even air hockey, spread around the areas and room surrounding the dance floor. Â
When you walk in the main entrance, you are greeted by a beer cart where you can get your favorite bottle right away, served in a paper bag. Go on in and get settled around your favorite activity - the test tube shots will be around before long. Â Toss it back, throw it on the ground, and stomp! Â Grab a bag of peanuts or popcorn to snack and if the cash starts to run low, try your luck at the black jack tables... maybe you'll win another round or two.
Of course, my favorite was country nights, but the DJ's there play all sorts of music - weekends were usually country to start, and then switched to top 40/dance.
I miss you Borrowed Bucks! Â Y'all go and have a great time there for me :)
"C'mon down to Bucks" (That's the theme song!)
Bucks used to be THE SPOT when I turned 21, which was about ten years ago now. Â And surprisingly, when I was home this last summer it seems the crowd had returned and it was a cool place to be again. Â
I always liked the vibe of Bucks. Â Occasionally, you have your fair-share of 21-year olds that could kill the vibe anywhere but it seems to be a mid-20's-mid-30's bar and the nice thing is that everyone seems to get along. Â There's a casino area with blackjack and pulltabs and a couple bars upstairs and plenty of cocktail waitresses to keep your night moving along. Â There's a little dance floor in the middle of all the action and the music is usually a pretty good mix of everything. Â Thankfully it's not strictly a country bar but they play enough country to make it fun and so little rap that it makes the bar enjoyable. Â They seem to always play Alabama's "Mountain Music" which is great because I like to air fiddle across the dance floor when I'm there. Â
Bucks is a fun place. Â I will definitely stop back next time I'm home.
This is a pretty fun bar with a lot of space and an energetic, young crowd - even on weeknights. It's definitely a college drinking atmosphere, so if that's not your thing (or if you're over 35) don't even bother. The drinks are cheap and the staff is friendly, and the DJs are always making sure patrons have a good time. Some attractive ladies definitely come here, so keep that in mind.
My chief complaint is that they do NOT play enough country to call themselves a country bar. It's at least half pop...and even some hip hop. I'm okay with a little pop or top 40 stuff interspersed with my country (especially at a younger place like this. I get it.) But when you abruptly transition from Boot Scootin' Boogie to something by Notorious BIG, you lose me. I'm excited to try out Cadillac Ranch this Thursday, I hope it will be a more authentic country experience.
