Bossa Nova Civic Club

I read some of the positive reviews about good music and I came here leading a big crowd of my friends Friday (last night) at 12:30. Figured the spot would be rocking by then, right?  Quite the discreet entrance, that's for sure, and I like that in NYC. Friendly bouncers, that's a check. I came in and was at the bar, and I thought..."Wow, this music...it's like I'm in an A&F store...I bet it's different on the dance floor. It has to be. This music is so bad."

Well, I sat through the blasting, terrible, repetitive beats ordering a drink from the bar. My $9 cocktail in M-train bushwick was less than 8 ounces, and not even close to what I'd call strong. Mostly lime gunk. Grabbed two shots of Jim Beam to make up for it at $6/piece. Well, I thought the crowd was good. A bunch of cool people trying to dance to the "music" on the little dance floor. Wait...that's the dance floor. That's the music they want us to dance to?! Okay well, maybe the DJ's just not here. 25 minutes later, at 1AM on the dot, the music finally changes...slightly, and we leave.

I am not joking or exaggerating, it was the same repetitive beat you'd hear at an Abercrombie store. I would come back to see if it's better one day, maybe the DJ no-call-no-showed, but if it's going to be like that 1 every 10 times and I gotta go all the way to M train bushwick, I don't think it's worth it. Maybe if you live near there you can walk by it and see if a good DJ is in since there's no cover and it's not crowded (but not empty either). I would have literally preferred they went to youtube and looked up a random EDM playllist.

I've had crappy times here and I've had good times here. It's pretty equal to be honest. I don't love it, but I will still come back because of the nice space/atmosphere as well as a lot of friends holding events here.

I lost my keys there, called multiple times at various times of the day, many days...no response. I even took it to twitter to try to get them to respond and also went in to the bar to ask. They were less than enthusiastic and very unresponsive. A bartender/manager also ridiculously confronted me for 2 for 1 drink night, which was "ladies" night. I was unaware and he blatantly yelled at me to the point of ridiculousness for giving my male friend a drink. It's a little snobby and aimed at a specific crowd- it would be more forgiving if the drinks were a little more inexpensive. But good music at times, good crowd at times and vice versa. But these types of things happen at bars I suppose..every bartender has a bad night........or many.

The winey, negative reviews are hilarious, and also..INSANE.

I always have a good time when I come to Bossa Nova...whether I'm wasted or just a little bit tipsy. I don't know what everyone else's problem is! This place really is the best of both worlds: you can choose to chill at the bar (with bartenders that are actually nothing but super nice) or in a booth, OR you can break it down on the dance floor!

The cocktails are rocking, the DJs know what's good, and it's one of the ONLY 7 day dance club venues in North Brooklyn, and definitely the ONLY ONE IN BUSHWICK...and it's about damn time!
