Just like everyone else I was thoroughly disappointed with this place. Wings were not restaurant level. Soggy and zero life. It's a shame when you can't live up to the name of your business. I'd rather chase a chicken and cut it myself than pay this place again.
Edwardsville restaurant level has gone down tremendously over the last year.
Remington, the owner greeted us while we waited to be seated for 5 minutes. Â No big issue. Â Like other comments on here, the decor is subpar, but doesn't necessarily determine the quality of food.
I ordered the lunch special 1/2lb boneless wings and my wife a chicken wrap. Â We swapped her french fries and opted for the pickle chips. Â If you are looking for a quick lunch, don't go here. After placing our order with the owner (only waiter there) it took 15+ minutes to get a portion of our order. He asked me again what I ordered and brought it out 2 minutes later (on the fly). Pickle chips that Remington the owner recommended were so salty and greasy. The boneless chicken was small, but good. Not better than BWW. Fries were standard nothing special. Â I see the Boulevard Wing Street and it's neighbor Coyote Bar and Grill closing soon.
We ate at Boulevard Wing Street on a Sunday afternoon. The iced tea tasted instant and they only had the "pink" sweetener, but the server was very helpful and pleasant. As we waited quite awhile for our food (there was only one cook and two servers) we had time to look around a bit. I feel as though the place could be spruced up, especially the restrooms, but it wasn't horrible. The cartons of beer were sitting on the floor behind the bar...the paint was chipped, smeared and splattered...just aesthetics. We ordered the queso dip which was the worst part of the meal. It was a bright orange bowl of melted cheese-ish dip. I ordered the naked chicken buffalo sandwich and it was tasty. My lunch partner ordered the smothered chicken sandwich, which was also "okay". Â The fries were pretty good. Overall I probably wouldn't go there again if I had other choices but it wasn't the worst place I've eaten. Lunch was $25.00 for two with no alcohol.
Review Source:I would like to begin by saying that this is my best attempt to give a fair and accurate account of my first experience here.
I came to this restaurant with my wife after church on a Sunday afternoon. We didn't know if we actually wanted to eat here, but I heard some good things and we thought that maybe we should check out the menu to see if the prices were reasonable. This is where I try to briefly walk you through our entire experience.
Arrival:
When we got there, I checked out the scene because that's what I do. The decor seemed contemporary inspired and there were several plasma screens situated around the restaurant. I saw a big Boulevard Brewing Co. sign which excited me because that's one of my top favorite breweries. My wife and I stood there for about a minute waiting for someone to greet us. A young lady greeted us and we let her know that we wanted to take a look at the menu first. After a little deliberation we decided to stay.
Seating:
When we were seated, I was able to take a better look around. My wife pointed out to me a section near the rear of the restaurant where there seemed to be a poorly stored tabletop or something. The menus were on duplicating paper which I assumed was because the restaurant is in its trial stage. We were happy to see that the prices were reasonable. From what I could tell, the bar wasn't particularly impressive, meaning that if you're looking for quality cocktails or great beer on tap, this isn't your place mostly because there was no visible bartender or taps.
Food:
We ordered 2 lbs. of breaded hot wings and Boulevard fries. For desert, we ordered the funnel fries. Â I'm being honest when I say that I wasn't particularly blown away by the wings. They were mediocre at best which was a bit disappointing because you come to a restaurant hoping that you'll be able to get food that you can't or don't know how to cook better yourself. The wings I make at home are comparable, if not, better than what we had. Â The Boulevard fries were a strange concoction with a semblance to chili-fries. They had some poorly melted cheese, tremendously minced meat, and strange sauce to top the well seasoned fries.
We were full, but somewhat dismayed at the taste and presentation of the food. Â My wife was excited for the funnel fries as she loves funnel cake. Â We were brought out a small black bowl which contained a nice scoop of ice cream topped with chocolate sauce and 4, count them, 4 funnel fries. Â I wish we would have asked about them before we ordered them, but we decided we wouldn't gripe about it. To their credit, the few funnel fries we had tasted awesome, just wish there was more of them for $4.99.
Service:
From what we could tell there were only about three employees working during the time that we dined here. Â For the most part they were pleasant, but they seemed a bit detached, either that or they were still trying to gain their bearings. We asked one of the waiters for recommendations and from what we could tell, he hadn't tried many of the options presented. Â If the employees don't eat the food, that's kind of discouraging to first timers.
Summary:
It's pretty apparent that this place is very much so in the early stages. Â However, if they can work on living up to their hype, they could have a permanent spot in the area pending they bring some serious, I mean serious, game to their competitors, i.e. 54th Street Bar & Grill and Bull & Bear Bar & Grill. Â Delivery will probably be their saving grace seeing that they're minutes away from the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Â My advice, give this place a little more time to get their feet wet in a burgeoning culinary scene in the Metro East, then come check them out.
Stopped into the Boulevard Wing Street for a cold brew and appetizers and I was not disappointed. I had an IPA that was very cold like I like it and then ordered up some Boulevard Fries off their appetizer menu. The fries came in about ten minutes and had to sit on my table while I was conversing with another patron.
About 5 minutes after the chicken, cheese and sauce covered fries arrived, I finally got to dig in. The breast meat chicken was covered with real cheddar cheese and a spicy queso sauce which was piled on top of some fries. I could see it was real cheese and not that nacho sauce either. The cheese was still gooey which I didn't expect since I had waited.
As I ate into the potatoes, much to my surprise the food was still very warm. My expectation was that because I waited to eat, the cheese would have been cold and rubbery, but that was not the case. As I worked to the bottom, I enjoyed every bite and considered licking the paper, but I didn't.
I will come back as the staff and atmosphere was friendly and the food was good. Plus it appears there is a place I can get food till 3AM.
I really had high hopes for Boulevard Wingstreet. It's unfortunate that my first experience was less than favorable. My friend and I received promotional material literally 8 months before this place opened and eagerly awaited it opening. We called almost every month to see when they would be open, and every time someone answered, their response would be, "We're not sure when we're going to open." Red flag numero uno.
After seeing their numerous duplicate facebook updates that they were open (bad marketing), we decided we'd stop in and try it. When we stopped in, we were immediately greeted and seated by a very unprofessional waitress. We asked for the macaroni bites for our appetizer, which they were already out of - along with the fried pickles (after being open for a day or two), so we settled on the queso dip. Queso dip, not so much. It was definitely chili-cheese dip, carrying the name "queso dip" (if you want quality queso, go to 54th Street down the street).
After choking down the "queso" dip, we proceeded to order our entrees. My friend got a soft cheese burger and I got a cajun burger. We were excited that our entrees would be a lot better than our appetizer...wrong again. My friend ordered his burger medium rare and when he bit into his burger it was completely raw. Cold, pink and inedible. My cajun burger was luckily properly cooked, however, it was supposed to have sauteed green peppers and onions on it, and they were definitely raw. Luckily we ordered fries, so we had something to eat.
Our waitress quickly brought us our check right after our entrees were brought to the table, and sat at the bar and watched us our entire meal. When it appeared that we couldn't stomach to choke down anymore of their repulsive food, she scurried over to the table and didn't leave our table until I handed her the tip. Completely unprofessional. Also, I'm pretty sure one of the owners was there with her screaming child, sitting right behind us. She didn't do anything to address any of the problems that we were having (like a good owner/manager), but I wasn't surprised.
Oh and just a word-to-the-wise, don't use the bathrooms. They look like a New York city dump. The only redeeming quality about Boulevard Wingstreet is that they deliver till 3 AM; however, if the food is uncooked and isn't what it's advertised to be, I wouldn't recommend it. I'll just order Jimmy Johns.
