Chose the healthier meal - veggie sub and salad. I loved their cheese and the bread was crispy... so good. My only complain was the service was super slow. We waited over half an hour after we ordered even though it wasn't so busy at lunch today.

    Horrible experience today!

Went in for lunch, and the older lady that was serving was absolutely TERRIBLE! Not only did my sister not receive the dressing for her salad, but once she asked for it, we found out that THEY CHARGED US. Seriously? So you have to pay extra if you want your salad dressed? That is ridiculous.

The server constantly messed up, and we kept having to repeat ourselves to her over and over and over again.

The food, as always, was good though.

I'll think twice about going in for lunch--and having a salad here.

I like this place.  Tucked into a little corner of Port Warwick, it is cozy and feels local.  I prefer going for happy hour drinks after work as it is just far enough from the Oyster Point Industrial Park to make you feel like you've gotten away from the office w/out being a pain in the butt to get to during rush hour.  It's a good place to stop by, shoot the breeze and take in a little Sportscenter over a pint.  I get the impression that it becomes a college hangout later at night, long after I've changed out of my work clothes and gone to bed but I'm not expecting to do any field research on that anytime soon.

Anyway, the food is good, but I won't say great.  The pizza can tend to be on the greasy side and I'm pretty much guaranteed heartburn from the sauce they use if I go for more than a slice.  Sandwiches, wings and such are on par with what you'd expect for a typical pizza joint with no real stand-outs.  Nonetheless, I'm a regular as it generally represents a good value with service that is consistently better than average.  It doesn't hurt that they have decent beers on tap too.

Good drinks, pizza, ambiance.  Kitchen closes earlier than bar.  Boo-hiss.

Was looking for a good lunch spot this past Saturday with my husband and Yelp steered us in this direction. Reviews mentioned how the pizza was "the best" so you can imagine my disappointment with my slice of pepperoni. Couldn't figure out if it was the cheese or the sauce but I did not like it. The onion rings we ordered as an app were good. My husband ordered a burger (no bun) and a salad. He said his food was good. Service was okay. Had to ask for a refill of soda.

Pizza and beer, novel concept. Went with a group of friends on a Thursday night and this place was packed. There were 6 of us, so it took us some time to be seated, so we had a drink at the bar while we waited. The inside is small, maybe 10 tables, so it had a crowded/cramped/loud bar feel to it, but also family friendly.  It seriously reminded me of Pizza Hut on a Saturday night growing up. But Better.

There is a pretty large selection of beer on tap there, maybe 12-15 taps? I couldn't see them all, so instead of listing them off, the bartender asked me what I usually like to drink. I love it when bartenders do that, it shows they know their stuff and enjoy the challenge.

I ended up having a hoegaarden, one of my favs and I was glad to see they had it on tap. We settled into our table and ordered some apps. I ordered the wings, Jose style, which is a mix of buffalo and BBQ sauce. They are seriously awesome. Brickhouse grills their wings, which I love, they come with a bit of char on them and that makes them crispy and delicious.

We ordered 2 pizzas for the table, the supreme and the white. They were both yummy, I preferred the white, mostly this pizza met my high standards for garlic content (seriously,  I could mainline garlic).  The supreme was just that, there were a TON of ingredients on it; green peppers, pepperoni, black olives, mushrooms, etc. It was almost comical watching everyone trying to get the pizza on their plates without the cheese and toppings sliding off in the process.

The waitstaff was efficient and effective, not overly friendly, but I can understand that given the crowds. I think this place will end up being our new go-to for pizza on the Peninsula.

Definitely like this place... Good thing I don't live nearby otherwise I'd be here all the time.

    Cool, relaxed atmosphere.
    Good selection of beers.
Plenty of TVs to watch whatever.

The meat lovers pizza with the stuffed cheese crust was excellent.

    Enjoy.

A great little place to have pizza and beer. We had lunch on a Saturday afternoon. No crowd and the waiter was an older gentleman who took our orders quickly and with a smile.

Our pizza (The Brickhouse) was one of the TASTIEST we've ever had. A pretty diverse beer selection also made this one of the best experiences with a pizza shop I've ever had. Definitely will stop by again when I'm in the area!

The best pizza place on the peninsula, and they have a lot of other great food as well.

Try the stuffed crust or a calzone. Nightly specials/deals are unbeatable. Make a reservation if you've got a big group though -- there isn't much seating available, which lends to the terrific atmosphere, but can be a problem on busy weekends.

Cool feel to the place. Small interior, decent selection of beer, friendly staff.  I really liked the regulars at the bar as well.  I went on a slow night and went back again and watched the Alabama vs ND game.  The pizza is very good, wings looked amazing and a coworker had the smothered chicken.  We were all pleased every time we ate there.  Will be back for beer and more!

Pretty nice casual bar and pizza place to hang out in a nice location in N.N., staff seem pretty friendly.. didn't try the food, but it is a nice bar and quite clean, kind of a laid back sports bar environment on a Sunday evening (when I went), but with a pretty good crowd for a sunday, mostly 20-somethings, but my friend said on fri and sat it is pretty packed.

My family had a great experience at Brickhouse Pizza! Staff was super and the pizza was indeed very good! We are vegetarians and so the taste of the actual pizza ingredients and preparation methods really stands out for us. Brickhouse pizza impressed us and we will be back for sure.

    The quick rundown...
      Happy hour specials: check!
Great prices on food and drink: check!
      Outdoor patio: check!
Enough TV's to watch about any cool sporting event: check!

You gotta sit at the bar and give a nod to some of the coolest bartenders in Newport News. It'll definitely be worth your time. The greeting when you enter the door is like the one you get at other eating establishments, but at least the folks here look like they are actually having a good time.

My only warnings, don't venture too far from their staple foods. The pasta and sandwiches are decent, but they don't hold a candle to the truly great offerings of pizza, cal-zones, and other stuffed Italian monstrosities!

If you have $10 in your pocket, I guarantee you that you can pop into this place at the right time and get some grub, two beers, and a great time!

nice local pizza/sports bar & grill. was immediately as well as in unison, greeted by the staff. it was a trend i noticed quite quickly haha. its weird cuz for a  split second, everyones eyes are on you when u come in.

anyway, pizza by the slice was an option so thats always a plus. they were decently sized and pretty good.

the service (especially for 3 single slices of pizza) did take a little longer than you would think. not sure why. but the waitress did make sure to have refills ready before we were close to finishing our sodas. love when that happens, so attentive! haha

I've only been here one time so take that into consideration. I was here around 12 midnight on a Friday night and it was absolutely packed! We sat outside and that was okay, though a little cold. We ordered a big pepperoni pizza with garlic crust and it was fantastic! I would definitely go back and order pizza there again!

So I rolled into this tavern Wednesday night because I was in the William Styron Square for a Port Warwick concert while promoting Yelp. It was already 8:30pm yet this place was still hoppin' with a dinner crowd. Fellow Yelper Alondo M was in the house so we decided to split a large meat lover's pizza.

Now I haven't tried any other pizza joint on the Peninsula but I'm going to say that this place is one of the better places in the area. I would imagine that it would be very tough to find a place that puts out a pie as good as these folks. The moment I took the first bite I knew I was eating something special. You know when you eat something so good and you walk out smiling with a feeling of contentment? This place is where it's at. It's a definite local's favorite.

I have two more events at Port Warwick on the 22nd and 29th and like the area, concert series and tavern so much that I think I'll gather a group of Yelpers to check this place out!

My daughter choose to celebrate her 21st birthday at Brickhouse Tavern, a regular place for college students.  In an effort to surprise her with both a cake and flowers the owners of Brickhouse could not have been better.  They received delivery of the flowers, picked up the cake I ordered and ensured they were given to my daughter at midnight.  Also, they allowed the outside area of the restaurant to be reserved her her party which made the celebration that much better.  Couldn't say enough good things and  the "above and beyond" service we received.  BRAVO!!  Would highly recommend a visit!

Very quaint and comfy eatery. We were seated immediately by the friendly server and given enough time to decide what we wanted to order. We both ordered pizza--I got the small Supreme pizza and my husband got the small BBQ Chicken pizza. Good size pizzas with delicious flavor! We couldn't get over how yummy it all tasted. The service was friendly, efficient, and attentive. They had plenty to choose from, but we were craving pizza so I can't comment on the other food there without trying them first. I will say they had a nice selection of food and plenty of tap beer at the bar. Can't really complain. I'd definitely recommend to others if you're wanting good beer, good pizza, good service, and good prices.

Really enjoy Brickhouse. Always greeted nicely by the staff and they recall if you have have been there before. Pizza is great, nice thin crust with a garlic style crust. I could eat just the crust and be happy. My favorite is the meat lovers pizza and the grilled wiings. Good happy hour on beer prices. Will return again soon.

Ok, so first time here. I found it through yelp as I'm new to the area. We initially went because it was listed with Sports Bars. I will tell you...it is FAR from a 'sports bar'. They have a few small tv's...but you could find a better sports bar setting in the bar at Applebee's.

As mentioned in previous reviews there is no waiting area -which sucks later in the year when it's cold outside- and it is overall pretty small. They have an outdoor seating area that is 'tented' off the outside of the tavern but there were no heaters, tv's, or even music of any sort. They let us sit out there and order drinks (the small bar area was full) while we waited for a table on the inside.

We ordered their macaroni bites with our beers while we were waiting. They were pretty much what you would expect if you got them from the frozen food isle in the grocery store...but I honestly wasn't expecting much.

We got a table on the inside about 15-20 minutes later. Our server wasn't bad, he was attentive and suggestive with the beer selection. We ordered pizza -which seemed to be the popular choice-, a large supreme and a personal greek. The pizza was pretty good and our server kept our drinks full.

As the evening went on (a friday evening) it got more crowded with the local college population. The three of us got engaged in a heated conversation, that started off with a racist comment, with one of the college kids. He was somewhat relentless at trying to antagonize us. It was quite annoying and would have turned into a fight had we not kept our tempers at bay. It made for a frustrating end to the evening.

All in all Brickhouse Tavern was a decent place to stumble on. I will return for beer and pizza but NOT on a friday night or any other college filled evening and not for a sports event.

Everyone else has ranked this place fairly high, consistently.  Unfortunately my first visit experience was horrible.  And first impressions last a lifetime.  A group of 7 of us went for lunch.  Stuffed pasta shells was undercooked.  Personal pizza looked like it came out of grocery freezer.  Ordered one flavor of hot wings, but 25 minutes later was told they were out of that flavor and I needed to make another choice.  Cheese on the cheeseburger was burned.  And....it took forever to receive our orders when there were less than 12 people in the facility.  Sorry - not going back...

There isn't anything to dislike about Brickhouse. Staff is great, pizza is great, and location is great. Frequented the establishment on a regular basis throughout college and beyond and when I go visit, it is where I go. I get a craving for Brick way to often

great pizza (greek is my fave with the white). Service is very nice, but they have forgotten my drink order a few times when there are big groups there. There is a great open air patio that you can hear concerts at the park from. They are also dog friendly, as there is a bark park across the parking lot. The place is small, but it's very welcoming and homey feeling. Also, check on their happy hours for cheap beer by the pitcher!

Nice, clean bar--good service.  Brockhouse burgers were tasty, but the fries were overcooked and my wife's pasta salad was awash in mayo.  Need to try the Pizza next time--it looked really good.

This is a restaurant I will definitely be frequenting now that we have discovered it! My husband and I went on a Friday night and we were very impressed with how fast and friendly the service was, even though they were pretty busy. The prices are very good for the amount of food that you get - they certainly do NOT skimp on the pizza toppings! Best pizza I've had in awhile. We each ordered different individual sized pizzas and look forward to trying others, as well as some of the other things on the menu. Drink prices are very reasonable & you will want to stay awhile and enjoy a few in the laid back atmosphere.

Being a New Yorker I'm always searching for pizza that gets as close as it gets to New York. I have had lots of pizza in the Hampton Roads area and all I can say is that Brickhouse Tavern comes in 1st place!  The food is absolutely excellent  i cant say enough about the place!  If you love calimari you'll love theirs.  Atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing. The downside is that the tavern is very small so you need to get there early if you want a seat, otherwise it's a great place to go for a good slice of pizza!

I quite like Brickhouse tucked away in the Port Warwick area of Newport News. The pizza is delicious--definitely done right and generous on the toppings. Also, I like being able to order just a single slice or a whole pizza. Especially considering the size of the pizzas--the slices themselves are really filling when you're drinking beer. I've heard they have god sandwich, but I seem to always order pizza when I'm there.

The establishment itself is pretty cool. It's always clean and fairly bright. It does get a bit loud and the whole place is basically one giant room, but that's a part of the atmosphere. At night, Brickhouse is a very popular hang-out spot. It tends to get very crowded, but as a last late-night stop for a slice of pizza, one can usually find a spot.

Brickhouse most DEFINITELY gets 5 stars. How could you not love this place? When I think of my last two years at CNU, I think of Brickhouse. It was our #1 hangout spot.

First off, the food is great. The pizza is very good. And I'm picky about my pizza. You can go in and order a whole pizza or get it by the slice. Their sandwiches rock as well. My favorite was the chicken parmesan sub.

At night, the tavern gets a lot of bar business. They have very reasonably priced drinks and the atmosphere is really nice. I've had many nights well spent there, that started out as dinner and led to drinks and I'd be there for hours with friends.

The owners are REALLY nice. They're fun and hip and everybody knew them by name. The employees were always really nice and helpful too.

It was also within walking distance of my house at the time, which was great!

Brickhouse is a pizza place/ bar in Newport News located in the Port Warwick area. They sell pizza by the slice as well as whole pies but the by the slice price is by far the best for the value. Late night on the weekends this place functions as a bar and the pizza is great (especially when you're drunk). They sell a ton of pizza on the weekend and are constantly restocking the different pies.

The pizza here is better than chain pizza and it is worth going to the location to pick it up, because Brickhouse Tavern does not deliver. The pizzas are pretty large sized and they really pile on the toppings. Overall this place does a good job of satisfying their customers.

Really cozy local pizza place. They have happy hour between 4-7pm and i think drinks were half off. The large pizza is HUGE. Really huge. With tons of cheese. Everything was nicely priced. too bad they dont have much seating and dont have a waiting area. We were waiting standing right by the door and it was freezing cold everytime it was opened. Finally found a good pizza place around here!

Edit: 1/18/11 Will not return. Somehow pizza quality went down. And will take you forever to get seated, with no waiting area in the frigid cold. Service is meh with some attitude from the young girls.

Brickhouse is, bar none, my favorite place to be in Newport News.  The staff is always friendly and attentive, including the owner, who frequently roams the establishment talking to clients.  He quickly, and sincerely, gets to know the regulars.

There are food and drink specials every night of the week.  Their pizza especially is great, but there's a wide menu.  During the day/evening it's a great place for anybody to come grab a bite to eat, and later on in the night it's a great bar scene for a wide range of folks.

You've gotta check this place out, you won't be disappointed. :)

Friendly Staff night and daytime.....can't remember the guy during the lunch shift...Older fella, a little slow on his feet, but more attentive than other servers fast on their feet....
    Pizza is purty good.
The only thing on their menu that disappointed me was the pastrami sammich.  @ first I thought I was in an old Wendy's Commercial...."WHERE'S THE BEEF?!?!  It's under the pickle!!!"
2 medium sliced pieces of pastrami on each half of the hoagie.  If I would've know that, I would have ordered triple the meat!  And i was seriously craving Pastra!!!!  I'm not going to name drop my favorite place in VA where I get my P-sammich fix on this review.....just cuz that's not me.....

Great food and very convenient if you're in the Port Warwick area! Don't let the word 'Tavern' fool you; the staff is very friendly, the environment is relaxed- but professional, and the food is great! It's located in a nice area which lends itself to a nighttime crowd. The building is on the corner and both the indoor and outdoor areas are clean and well kept. I would recommend or take any of my business partners or friends to Brickhouse!

Staff is awesome.  Location is awesome.  Food is awesome.  Drinks and specials are awesome.

My favorite?  The Brickhouse Calzone... it's like a Philly Cheesesteak and a Pizza inside the best crust ever.  Dip it in ranch dressing, and it's nothing short of sublime.  Oh Yum.  I miss this place.

I used to live within walking distance of Brickhouse, and it doesn't matter what day of the week, or what time it is, it's hardly ever empty.

The owners are awesome - so nice and outgoing, and they treat their clients like gold.

I definitely recommend it... I make a point to go back whenever I can on my visits back to Newport News!!
