The small stop in Highland here is a very tasty way to spend lunch. Â My dad and I love to eat mac and cheese sides, and baked beans. Â For the main dish we eat the boxed chicken piece selections. Â The sea food special pulled me into the drive thru yesterday. Â What an amazing taste from the cooks and their tasty fried mushrooms as well. Â I hope that the speaker in drive through will be fixed. Â I think the volume was high.
Review Source:Let me start off with saying I grew up loving Brown's chicken so when my friend & I were in the area it was between Popeye's (2 blocks away & my friends preference) or Brown's (3 miles away and my nostalgic preference). Â Full of anticipation, we opted for Brown's in part because they have more options than Popeye's and my Mom wanted pasta.
As can happen with fast food places, the inside is starting to look a bit shabby, not dirty but not really clean either. We ordered 2 chicken dinners, mostaccioli w/ meatballs & an extra order of mushrooms to go. Â The guy at the counter was feeling the heat of the day, but cheery and professional explaining that white meat would take 8 minutes. Â Nooo problem, we'd wait for fresh chicken! Just after this, things started to fall apart as the customer line started to grow behind us.
Once the chicken was ready and trayed (oops...it was take out), we had to wait again because the biscuits weren't ready. Â A few minutes later we were on the road, but something made us check the order ... no mushrooms! Â Back we went. Â Once home we discovered the pasta was missing the breadstick and the pasta the meatballs (at least we weren't charged).
The saving grace and the reason for the 3 stars? Â The chicken was huge, meaty, juicy, tender and wonderful! Â Still, this Brown's had serious management issues that day and given a choice in the future, Popeye's will probably win my business. Â Even if the chicken isn't as impressive, at least if they mess up my order I'm not driving 3 miles to have it corrected.
So, I've lived within 1 mile of this Brown's all of my life, and have probably eaten here twice. Â I'm not sure why I decided to come here now that I live 300 miles away, but I'm SUPER pumped that I did.
I know the name is Brown's CHICKEN, but I went with a couple of Chicago Style Dogs. Â Absolutely PERFECT, authentic Chicago dogs--right down to the neon green relish. Â I believe they also serve a pretty solid Italian Beef here. Â
The most impressive part, the part that left me regretting 20+ years of not coming here, are the CORN FRITTERS!! Â Think mega-delicious fried cornbread. Â If you don't order these instead of fries (at no extra charge) you are an idiot!
A-OK by me! Â Tasty fried chicken - large chicken breasts, which is nice (much bigger than KFC). Â Corn fritters are super-tasty, too. Â My favorite here is the fried mushrooms. Â So flippin' tasty, but I was shocked at the price! Maybe it's Browns way of keeping me from eating more of them... ;)
