I drive by here almost everyday and I can't believe I just recently tried this place for the first time! I had a very strong craving for fried catfish and fries, nothing else would suffice. I check my handy dandy yelp app for "Fish and Chips" in the West Loop, and lo and behold, 4-star rated Captain Hook's Fish & Chicken came up!

It's located in the Jewel Shopping Center on Roosevelt and Ashland, so parking is a breeze. They have a plentiful amount of $5 meals, ranging from fried catfish, to chicken nuggets, to shrimp and all are served with fries. I got two HUMONGOUS pieces of catfish fillets with fries for only $5! Portions are quite generous and I could barely finish one fillet!

The breading is light, not too heavy at all and it's served with hot sauce (mild if requested). I thoroughly enjoyed my cheap yet delicious meal. If I had one small tiny complaint, it might be that the breading and fries are a tad too salty for my taste, but that didn't stop me from devouring my meal. And for only $5, it was more than worth it. I'm definitely coming back!

Okay perhaps this is premature but I'm headed to CHF&C right now. 10 mins Erica said my order will be ready. If the food is anything close to her patience and help it will be worth the calories!

Erica was great about helping me get the combo I wanted for the amount of food I wanted -- 10 shrimp was just TOO MUCH! I feel the blood in my arteries coagulating but hopefully it will be worth it!

Thank you!

This location has fast and cheap delivery but is not as tasty as the 87th location. The food was ok but it wasn't as well seasoned. I ordered large orders of catfish, legs/thighs and wings. The chicken pieces were so small that many had barely any meat in the bones! Very disappointing!

I know for next time to ask them tonfrynthe fish "hard" because there was no crunch when we bit into it...again I never had to think of this at the other location but oh well.

my friend brought me here because we was craving for fried food and he suggested this place. its your typical fast food joint service here and the food comes out pretty quick. the place is kind of dirty but bearable to eat at.

we ordered fried chicken wings, fish & chips, and onion rings. the chicken wings was pretty decent , it would of been great if the skin is more crispy. the fish taste fresh and the breading was light which is good! the fries and onion rings was just OK.. nothing special about it.

will come back to try their jumbo shrimp and hush puppies that other people here is talking about! cant wait!

Well I don't live in this area but I had a http://restaurant.com certificate and went there. I ordered the jumbo shrimp and 6 wing dinner. It smelled so good while driving home that I decided to just taste a little and OMG I fell in love. The shrimp were to die for! Fresh out of the grease. I was trying to drive and eat these shrimp and I just could not get home fast enough. I have found a new place. Love it!!!

I have been trying to find good fried fish for a while now, and this place finally fit the bill. They serve fresh fried catfish and tilapia fillets with lots of meat on them. There's no fishy aftertaste at all. Ordering the small fish dinner is still very filling. They also give you fries and a huge piece of bread to eat with the fish. Love dipping the fish into their hot sauce as well. Yummy! Next time I will try their hush puppies.

While I totally agree with the Firehouse end of this place.. the fish is the best. I have tried the burgers and steak sammies, but its a waste of money.

The lemonade is good.. desserts are good... any and all fish is good. Sides are standard and hot sauce is just hot sauce..

Servers were ok.. nothing to write home about, but I didn't expect much either. It was a little busy on a Sunday afternoon and I waited about 10 minutes for fish, burgers and sides.. pretty average. I didn't have the energy to drive all over looking for another place so there ya go.

It tastes WAY better then Pete the Greek across the street

I'm a huge fan of this place! Love the sandwiches and love the fried shrimp. They put lemon pepper on their fries and seafood which adds an extra zing. Only taking one star away because sometimes the fries aren't too fresh.

From the outside Captain Hook's appears to be a separate restaurant from Firehouse Steak & Lemonade. Not until you walk in the same door do you realize its the same business. Sort of a 2-in-1 restaurant deal that now wants to attacked the grilled sandwiches market. Who am I to judge get money get paid, its your business.

Now this is where the business owner bites off more then he can chew and starts offering too many food items and his employees go crazy because this fried fish joint just turned into a sandwich shop too.

I ordered an "Original Philly Steak" Sandwich. The menu indicated it comes with sweet peppers, onions, mushrooms, provolone cheese & mayo. Sounds great! But wait here comes the drama.

The cashier had me waiting 4 minutes before she took my order. There was only one other customer in the restaurant. I literally counted 5 female front counter help, 2 female delivery drivers and 6 guys on the grill and prep station. Why did it take soooooo long?!? Okay, I am over that.

After placing the order for a simple philly steak sandwich I waited 17 minutes, by then the lunch crowd started coming in and they were getting their order before me. I notice they were cooking all the Captain Hooks fried fish orders first and the Firehouse Steak sandwiches orders were not even being prepared. I am about to ask for a refund when my order was up and I decided to eat it there.

I opened the bag and there is lettuce on my sandwich. The menu did not indicate served with lettuce...VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!! Placing lettuce in a philly cheese steak is like putting ketchup on a Chicago Style Hot Dog. Neither their carryout menu or wall menu says lettuce on all philly steaks.

Oh it gets worse, only half the sandwich had steak in it. By then the only thing going for me was the 7-up bottle at least that tasted great.

I just have to let you in on the horrible service, this place should have just stayed a Captain Hook's since there is more positive reviews for that side of the business.

I usually get their 20 pc jumbo shrimp and fries and share it with 2 other people. Between the 3 of us, we sometimes have problems finishing this. However, we sometimes will also get hushpuppies or a 10 pc wing, depending on how hungry we are. Their shrimp is truly jumbo and juicy and their breading is light. I really like the lemon pepper seasoning they put on. The wing sauce is really good; the hot sauce is a bit buttery and reminds me of the hooters wings sauce - it's not so hot as to burn your taste buds, but hot enough to have a kick.

I love it! This is a little shop located in a strip mall, with ample parking for the size of the place. It's small- mostly carry out, but they do have booths set up and I do usually see people dining in there.

You go to the counter & order, and then its usually 5-15 minutes for your order (at least on weekends when I've gone.) They have fried seafood, yummy sandwiches, ribs, catfish, hush puppies, rings, and it's all so goooood!!! They have call ahead carry out, walk-in carry out, dine in and deliver (for business orders only.)

Seems family owned, very clean, good prices. I recommend the hush puppies!!

It's sometimes on my way home. I discovered it by accident as I was desperate for some junk food. And really wanted fish for some reason. I was pleasantly suprised how delicious the fish tasted. 4 large breaded Tilapia filets tasted fresh and yummy.
With Dinner you get fries, bread and cole slaw. I have to agree, fries had magical properties. Soo good. and so bad for you.

We also had their wings. The skin wasn't as crispy as I liked it but the sauce was nice and hot and of course, it came with fries. We didn't know and got more fries. There were no fries left.
People are generally friendly.
It is located across from the projects and is in a mini strip mall with Jewel. And the floors can be so slippery they'll kill you.
But if you survive all that, you will enjoy some delicious deep fried fish!

Housed in the newer strip mall built here, the place is still on the very clean side, which is always a good first impression. It is a good idea to call ahead and place your order first, because sometimes the wait for an order can be a little on the long side. But the food is rather good, and the hot sauce on their chicken wings is tangy, but not scalding. They do also offer delivery, but whenever I have called for it, they have told me it may be around a two hour wait. All in all, a pretty good choice for lunch- and the prices are pretty fair.
