Carlito's Way Pizza

decided to come here last week because i didnt want to travel far and its located in the end of my block.. its a little pizza joint that sells gyros, hotdogs, burgers, pizza, etc... there is a few table and chairs for people to eat..

i ordered a slice of sausage pizza and a order o fries.. price is pretty cheap and the food was just decent.. for 5 dollars with change back.. i wouldnt mind coming back here again when im lazy to drive..

I've ordered from this place 3 times and really enjoy their eggplant parmesan sandwiches.  The first 2 times I ordered they were quick and the food was hot.  Today my order took 1.5 hours to come!  I called at 1 hour and they told me 5 more minutes.  When the delivery finally came the guy said the driver and the restaurant was busy and acted like it was no big deal.  He said he was sorry, but when I told him it was unacceptable he walked away with more excuses.  I don't often take offers for discounts or coupons in these situations but I kind of expect the offer because it shows an attempt to fix the problem and that they care about my business.  I will not be using this restaurant again, which stinks because I really enjoy eggplant Parmesan sandwiches and they are hard to find.

I heard that this place recently re-opened with new management about a year or so ago.  The last time I'd been in was maybe 4 years ago, back when I worked in the neighborhood and passed by every day.

So out of nostalgia and curiosity, I stepped inside and the place does look rather different from what I can remember.  Of course, it's difficult to remember much about a place you've been to only once and so long ago.

Having a craving for nothing in particular, I decided that I would try the pizza at "Carlito's Way Pizza" - one would suspect that any food item mentioned in the name of the establishment should be their most prestigious item, no?

So I went with a slice of cheese (they have pizza by the slice for cheese and sausage listed on the wall - no pepperoni??) and they gave me the last one pre-made on the heated pizza wheely display case.

I've always been confused by those - I understand not all pizza can be fresh out of the oven when purchasing by the slice, but somehow it's just not the same pizza, you know?

So despite all of that, I made it home and unwrapped the greasy coverings to enjoy my slice.  A fair amount of grease soaking the paper and the bag holding it all.  I've never een a huge fan of herbs, so I threw up a bit of a mental enjoyment block to see the parsley or oregano or whatever the green flecks were on my slice.  But all in all, it was a tasty piece of pizza.  Not the hottest or best and no melty cheese like I prefer, but a solid standing for a slice of takeout pizza.  the next time I'm in I may have to try their other menu items or go for a full fresh pizza to see if there is any improvement.

Because their rating in my book has a lot of room for improvement, but I'm more than happy to give them another shot in the future.
