    Great beer and bartender

This is the closest bar to my house and I used to avoid it.  I found it expensive and unfriendly. I stopped in this year after hearing it was changing and I've become quite the fan.  It's divey, but with a top notch draft selection.  There's great bartenders and an eccentric late night crowd of neighborhood locals and service industry people.

What takes it over the top is this: great local bands (often free) and great specials.  $2 beer nearly all the time (Red Stripe, Shiner, Bass, Anchor Steam, it varies, but usually good).  If you haven't stopped in for a while, it's well worth the stop.

Outside looks like a dump like Vaughan's, but I wouldn't call this place a dive. It's small, but the ornate bar makes for an entertaining backdrop while drowning yourself in an impressive IPA selections on draft.  $1 taco happy hours also helps

Stopped in here recently (for the first time in years) for a friend's birthday party. Carrollton Station is an oddly configured neighborhood dive bar. Carrollton Station is named as such, because it is catty-corner from the Carrollton streetcar barn.

Small selection of drafts, though selection was reliable and decent (couple NOLA and Abita brews, I think a Brooklyn and Magic Hat #9).

Not much was happening the night we were there, but there's a stage in the back. And there was a sign for some kind of race starting at the bar involving strolling while drinking, which I found highly intriguing.

If I lived around Carrollton, I'd probably go here more often.

This bar is open and is a Great neighborhood bar, not closed, just new management 1/1/2012.  I relay on Yelp everywhere I travel, but I live here and just saying it is a good old style place to hang if you are in town and in the hood.  Check out the music too there are some great acts coming up and always will be.

A good little bar that hosts open mic nights on Tuesdays (acoustic) and Wednesdays (comedy). I come almost every Tuesday for the acoustic open mic night. There is a singer that comes here every week named McKayla. She is quite a talent. Definitely the best regular performer on Tuesdays.

The bar itself is ok. It is a little too small of a bar especially on weekends.

It is just my luck that I finally get to Carrollton Station and hear that it is closing at the end of the year.

This is an old building. I have no idea how old, but it definitely seems at least 100 years old. The bar itself is very cool. The woodwork is something that you just don't see in modern designs.

The area to the left of the bar is the stage and bathrooms. It is kind of narrow and I could imagine it gets very crowded at times. The most recent night I visited, there was a stand up comedy routine. The tables filled up quickly, but even standing in the back, I was able to hear the show.

I do think it is cool that there is a venue where amateur comedians can hone their skills. I am sure the open mic comedy night can get pretty fun.

I did like this bar and am sad to hear it is closing. I can't imagine the building being anything other than a dive bar, so I hope a similar place opens.

They have ok shows, that's about it. The drinks are a little too pricy and the bartenders don't seem like the best. The neighborhood also is pretty dodgy. I've seen a girl get her car stolen from right in of the bar. Just not enough going for this place to get my patronage, honestly. The building is nice though.

I really love visiting this bar. The daytime prices are wonderful.  A cheap, cold PBR and good conversation with the neighborhood "sots" is my idea of a successful afternoon.

They have acoustic and comedy open mics, which I am not brave enough to sign up for but am happy to support by lending an ear. The trivia on Thursdays is fantastic. Some questions are well beyond my scope of knowledge but, I'm there for the beer and the laughs.

I've seen a few musical acts in the venue i.e. Susan Cowsill, Fred LeBlanc, Jimmy Robinson, etc. (all were excellent!)  It can tend to get smoky and/or crowded, but I'm always able to enjoy the backyard area if I need a little air.

Overall, I think it's a great place to grab a drink, meet the neighbors and have a good laugh. The only medicine I ever need in life.

I'd been here a couple of times before and it seemed like a decent venue, but when I went this last Friday I had the worst experience that I've ever had in a bar. A friend's band was playing and I lacked cash for the cover, so I went in and asked if I could put it on a tab with my credit card (as I've done at numerous other places like D.B.A., which was very polite about it). They said no. When I complained that it wouldn't be much trouble to do this, I was pushed out by the bouncer without warning.

I didn't try to reenter, but the owner -- Eric Orlando -- came out onto the sidewalk and told me to "leave his corner." It was a public sidewalk, so I said "no, this is a public sidewalk." He then told the bartender to (I'm not kidding) call 911 to have me removed.

Other reviewers have complained about the cover charges. Apparently if you actually do this face-to-face, they'll call the po-po on you.

I won't go into the rest, but suffice to say this is not the type of treatment you expect outside of Bourbon Street. The owner is a hothead and will "bounce" anybody who complains about something as minor as adding a cover to a credit card. I'd never found the service to be that friendly before, but this is the first time it was downright rude. Stay away.

This is a great little dive spot to watch some good music.  Usually it is almost all local folks so this is still a little local gem that hasn't been overwhelmed by tourists...so far.  I've had some crazy good times in here and when there is a good band it can get pretty crowded and HOT.  The drink prices are very fair and the service has always been great.  It can get pretty gross and smokey sometimes depending on the crowd.  Parking in the area can also be a challenge on crowded nights.  This area is getting more trendy with all the development on Oak Street so places like this are getting to be an endangered species for the future as the $12 fast food "gourmet" burger joints creep ever closer.

This is a great little bar and music venue.  The prices were decent if my memory serves me correctly...which it's been failing as I age so...

I've only been here a handful of times, 3 times to see a band and once just to hang out.  My only gripe is no food or snacks on the regular.

My buddy and I went there once (my 2nd time) after I completed a photoshoot (i' m  a photographer) because we had the day to kill.  After a couple of cosmopolitans (just kidding) we were hungry! I was like, "DAMN WE SHOULD EAT!"  the Bartender was like, "sorry assholes, no food is served here, but I can have food delivered from one of these places"  of which he displays a handful of menus.

Being we were that close to Magazine, we decided to skip on over and grab some sushi from some place that kinda sucks..so i don't even remember the name.  But once our bellies were filled, we mosey'd on back to Carrollton Station.

The 2 stools at the bar were nearly still warm from our asses before the late lunch (or early dinner).  2 more drinks in, we were feeling really good and figured why not extend this great evening to some friends and partake in our unplanned festivities!  we were like "HEY, WE ARE POPULAR! AND KNOW SOME HOT CHICKS...LET'S INVITE THEM!"  So both of us scrolled through our phones as the bartender kept the steady flow of liquid refreshments coming in.   After 15mins of texting and calling we had completed our invites.  On short notice, we managed  i think 2 chics and 1 dude.  Well, at least it wasn't 2 dudes and 1 chic.  None of us were available so it's not like were trying to hook up.  1 of the girls I had been wanting to shoot for some time now and we were able to schedule it!

Wait, this is supposed to be a review of the bar right?  Ok,  so it's also a music venue. It's a little small, but actually not bad at all.  If you get there early enough before the crowds, you can grab a table right in front the stage, but if you don't...no biggie, you can hear the music from anywhere in the bar and probably get a decent view of the band providing there are no 6'5" assholes standing in the front.

This bar is also right across from another one called The Boot.  I've never been but I hear people talk about it occassionally.  MOSTLY younger people i think, so if you are into picking up the kind that look almost under age...go for it.

+choices of good food just down the street
    +close to other bars

More local bar than music venue - very little seating other than at the bar and this past weekend there was a $7 cover charge to listen to a band play blues/rock cover songs.  The band was actually okay but I was definitely hoping for more from Carrollton Station - if you're looking to stand in a smoky local bar and drink while listening to decent background music it seems this is the place, except for the cover charge of course.  For me, I don't have any need to return.

They have an open mic comedy show every Wednesday night and occasionally have comedy shows on Saturday.

Comedy is really the only thing I have ever seen here.  They also host bands, but the place seems a little small for that.  I mean, it gets pretty packed for a comedy show, so I can only imagine the crowd that comes to see a band.

Cool little dive to get a drink.

This used to be my neighborhood bar when I lived on Hickory Street, thus I have fond memories of Carrollton Station. It's an excellent music venue, similar to Maple Leaf with fewer sweaty dancing people, as the shows tend to be more chill and rockabilly oriented than Papa Grows Funk-ish. They do an open mic comedy night every Wednesday, I believe, which is funny the first time you see it, and still fun after that because you get to know the comedians who're on the lineup every week.

My only minor complaint is that they occasionally charge a cover, which is annoying pretty much across the board. I definitely want to support local talent, but I'd rather do so in the form of tips and drink surcharges. Paying a cover to go somewhere is too much of a commitment, if you ask me.

All in all, if you live in the Uptown/Riverbend/Carrollton area, this is your neighborhood bar. If you've not been here yet, you really must do something about this. Go meet your neighbors! (And say hi to mine. Well, my previous neighbor, to be precise. I totally still see him whenever I happen to end up at Carrollton Station, which is pretty awesome.)

Great local place!  I only wish they had some benches outside for pets and people to enjoy.
