I know people say that Casa del Mar is the best place to get Mexican foud in NWI. I think "they" are wrong.
Everything here tasted cheap. Doesn't that make sense? The meat was super chewy and the meal was ok.
The guac was amazing but you can't really mess that up.
I am a huge salsa fan, most people dip, no- wrong. I scoop as much as I can until the chip is outnumbered by the salsa. First bite of this cold, fridge tasting salsa and I didn't go back for more. :( My heart quietly broke.
Absolutely the Best Mexican Food in Indiana! Â Fabulous homemade salsa! Fresh guacamole! Â Amazing steak fajitas and delicious coctel de camarones! Â Excellent service in a vey clean and beautiful environment! Â
Forget about the other Mexican places, go to Casa del Mar! Â They even have an amazing full bar with homemade Sangria!
The atmosphere was great! Live music was fun and not too loud. Our waitress was really nice and accommodating for our group. Drinks were really good, super tasty pina coladas, and super sweet sangria (it might be too sweet for some as it lacked a red wine flavor).
However, the food was really bland. The beans tasted like just that, beans and water with no extra seasoning. None of the meat seemed to be seasoned either. However the rice was good, if not a little dry, and the guacamole was really good.
I might go again for drinks, put probably not for dinner.
On 9/9/2012 I had the pleasure of dining at Casa Del Mar with my better half. We came at 8:30 pm and we were seated immediately. The special was $5 piña coladas and $3 draft beer. I had an awesome top shelf piña colada  The service was great, the food was flavorful and portioned just right.  We ordered a beef burrito and beef taco dinner both came with rice and beans. Everything was great! Kristine
Review Source:Don't eat at this restaurant. I just went there and saw one of the servers put her finger in someones drink to get something out and she took the drink to the costumer. It had to have been something gross because as she was digging it out she had a look of disgust. It was the most repulsive thing I have ever seen! DONT EAT THERE!
Review Source:I guess I just was not impressed. Â The waitress was very nice. Â I have only been here for lunch and find the food to be kind of bland and blah. Â Even the free chips and salsa were just ok... Â I have had much better salsa elsewhere. Â The bar in the middle of the restaurant takes up 2/3 of the place so maybe its better during better drinking hours? Â Maybe I might give it another try then...
Review Source:Went here for lunch on Wednesday after making the treck to 3 Floyds for some zombie dust. Â Prices were reasonable. Â Food was very good. Â Carne Asada lunch special was awesome. Â I wish I could make skirt steak that good at home. Â Free chips and salsa to start. Â When in Munster, I will go back.
Review Source:Best Mexican food by far in NWI. I have lived in Munster for years and just discovered this place a couple months ago and have been back many times since. I order something different every time i go and haven't had anything I thought was less than fabulous. Service is always friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.
Review Source:Pretty decent Mexican food in an area of the country that I wouldn't necessarily say is flooded with excellent international cuisine. Â The portions were decent and the service was friendly (although the wait was horrible due to our party size). Â The best part of the meal was the circumstances that brought us here. Â A group of friends and I went to Dark Lord Day (see Three Floyds) and had just took part in the most epic tailgate party I have ever seen. Â So we came here for food since it had the highest Yelp reviews in the area and even though we were pretty nicely buzzed, we still demand quality food. Â So when we finally get seated they put us right next to the man who was setting up to play live music. Â The drunken boys in the group were through the roof excited and I was preparing to be mortified. Â The singer had his guitar (which he sometimes played) and a stereo with background music. Â We were expecting Mexican music or something along those lines since we were in a Mexican restaurant and the man was Mexican. Â Well that is not what this man played. Â He played all classic rock and it was amazing! Â We all sung along and shouted out requests which he sometime took. Â The whole restaurant probably thought we were wasted (which we were) but if they looked at our table we were only drinking waters! Â It probably looked pretty funny to see a bunch of rowdy boys acting like fools drinking water on a Saturday night. Â Anyway, this rambling probably doesn't read as funny as it was so I will end with recommending this place to anyone looking for something good to eat in the Munster area.
Review Source:Great Mexican Place in Indiana!
The order:
Queso Fundido
Guacamole
Carne Asada (Have to try!)
Tamales
Red Sangria
Margarita
Coming from California (aka the mecca of Mexican food) I can tell you that the food here is solid. Fresh ingredients, great flavors and good sized portions. (We ordered family-style for our table and had tons of food left over).
The restaurant is comfortable and cozy, with a very friendly & helpful staff. Love the dark wood interior and having the bar smack dab in the middle of the restaurant. The night I was there the band was a no-show, but live entertainment sounds delightful.
If I ever find myself in this area again, I will be back! =) If you are lucky enough to be in this area...go!
I did not think the food in here was that great. For what great things you see as far as atmosphere in this place the food was not as great. I had tacos, chicken and beef and the beef tastes like it was meat scraped from the bottom of an old cast iron skillet. The chicken just didn't taste grade  A to me. For twenty dollars, the food didn't cut it.
Review Source:Excellent Mexican food in a family style setting. The beef tacos were among the best I've had. Their margaritas were good. The only down side was the smoking...I wish Indiana would hurry up and ban it already. Anyway, if you're in the area and hungry for great burritos, tacos and traditional classics, this is the place.
Review Source:Casa del Mar is easily my favorite Mexican restaurant. Â I have dined there many, many times and I have never had a meal that was anything less than excellent.
Their menu has a wide selection to chose from, and their margaritas are fantastic. Most Saturday nights they have a live band in house. Â My favorite meal there are the beef tacos. Â Flavorful and delicious without being greasy, and topped with fresh lettuce, tomato and yummy anejo cheese. Â They are a hit! Â Service is always friendly and 99% of the time your meals arrive to you with a speediness not matched by some "fast food" places. Â I am seriously crazy about this place. Â I make a point of bringing friends there who haven't already experienced the awesomeness of Casa del Mar. Â Definitely the place to go when you get a craving for Mexican food done right!
Went to CDM tonight on a recommendation of the best Guacamole around.
I am from Texas and Tex-Mex places are like Starbucks down there (you can throw a rock in any direction and hit one). Â
The salsa was an original style rendition with plenty of Cilantro but missing anything resembling HEAT. On a 1-5 it gets a 3 due to it being the only traditional style salsa I have yet to find up here that is not PACE.
Between the two of us we got two different entrees one was the Carne Asada which was cooked as ordered and had a very good flavor. 1-5 it got a 4.5 Â
Next were the enchiladas I got a beef, pork and cheese so I could try a variety.. I lived in the Yucatan of Mexico and these enchiladas were prepared in a Yucatan style and I thought they were pretty darn authentic 1-5 it got a 4.0
Each plate came with the standard re-fried beans and rice sides, sour cream and guacamole with the Carne Asada but not the Enchiladas.
NOW about that recommended Guacamole.. it is a bit pricey at $6 for a 1/2 order or $10 for a full order but a 1/2 order was way more than we could eat after eating our entree. Â scale of 1-5 a solid 4.5 (needed more salt, garlic and spice for me but again I am from Texas)
The only negatives were weak margaritas and an inattentive waiter... we ordered a 1/2 order of Guac but it never came and we had to ask again when the food was delivered so there was a let down there but over all a very pleasant experience.
Oh.. a side note... not sure if they have live music every night but tonight they did and it was just a bit bizarre for me... Like I said I lived in Mexico and  I have been serenaded by Mariachis and Trios but NEVER have I listened to SMOOTH JAZZ by a Saxophonist and Bongo player... a little weird and out of place for me...
Over All the food is a solid 4.25
Service was average at a 3.5
live music which is usually a bonus was a minus but I will not count that so overall I give CDM a solid 4 of 5 stars.
To put it simply, Casa del Mar is by far the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. There are others around that are good, some even very good, but none of the constant excellence and quality of Casa del Mar. In the dozen or so times I have been there, I have never had a meal that didn't leave me entirely satisfied.
Although I am a vegetarian, all of my friends rave about their steak and beef, tacos and burritos, and everything else they have. Their beer selection is nice and they do not skimp--- the standard Dos Equis I order looks like about a gallons worth. The food that I have had is meatless, including a brief stint when I was off the veggie band wagon that can verify the meat is good too. My favorite dish are the traditional enchiladas (enchiladas tradicionales) which are lightly fried and filled with chihuahua cheese and onions. Magnificent.
The service is always friendly, courteous, and quick to serve. I have never had to sit around with an empty glass of soda, as they are quick to refill, even when its not yet empty. They are quick in everything, and yet you never feel rushed when you are eating there. In addition to the service, there is sometimes live entertainment that is always pretty good. I can't recommend Casa del Mar strongly enough.
