The best thing I can say about the place is that you can enjoy the sunset on the outside deck. It's extremely casual and laid back. The food is subpar, the sangria is more like a punch w. a little wine yet it's refreshing. The food is more like a 2 stars  than 3.  But the staff is very friendly &  fast.

Love the atmosphere of this place. Once inside, you feel like you could be in a bar in a European city with the creaky wood floors, funky juke box, and quirky magazines. This is a great place to hang out and relax with a glass of wine, cheese plate, and carrot cake (don't pass it up!). They've greatly expanded the outdoor space recently, so on a good nice you can sit on the deck and enjoy the water (there are strikingly few places on Clear Lake to do that). It's definitely worth a visit.

I love chelsea. I really really do.  I am there ALOT.  However, I've had to knock down my review  a star because of the incredibly rude winetender.  You know the guy--taller, heavy-set.  He is a real JACK.....hammer.  I am obviously a regular, but everytime I walk in he treats me with absolute disdain.  I.e. When I'm looking at a wine list he blurts out "We are out of alot of those", so when ask him what wines are available, he sighs, says he doesn't know.  When I asked him to check, you would have thought I had asked him to move heaven and earth.  Then, when I ask him for prices (none are published on the 1/2 price wine list, and even though it's half price, I still would like to know what kind of damage i'm going to be doing--and if it's going to be a 1-, 2- or 3-bottle night!), he says "I don't know.  I know that this one is $12."  GREAT.  So let's recap.  you don't know what wines you have, you don't know how much they cost....how do you have this job again??

most recently, I was trying to see behind him to take a look at their bottled beer selection.  As I was looking in the case, as they have no bottled beer list, just the refrigerated cases with glass doors, he talks behind me and asks "is anyone else ACTUALLY ready to order?"

let's just say that first beer went down real fast inorder to quell any desires I had to publicly berate this dude.

So here's the deal chelsea--get rid of the angry winetender, or pay for his therapy, and i'll bring your review up to 4.  HECK, let's be crazy....5.

Debbie is the manager of this establishment. All of the people in this place are just the nicest and friendliest you can get. The place is old and very elegant. There are leather couches to sit on and two out door decks as well. The bay windows point directly at the sunset. The cheese platters are delicious and the wine prices are wonderful. They also have great food. You will not be disappointed going here for a romantic evening or to hang with friends. My favorite place around.

This is a cool after work hangout spot if you are not too hungry and need to unwind with friends, instead. The wine selection is huge and wine tasting is excellent. It's a good place for a date too!

Chelsea's is an awesome laid-back spot in Clear Lake. They offer great daily specials on both food and drinks. Thursday's are $1 sangria, $2 champagne. Sunday's they have $10 steak night. There is a wide variety of beer and wine to choose from, which is great.

The only negative thing I've noticed more than once is the cake (while it looks delicious) tasted stale often. Stick with the cheese plates or salads (personal favorites) and if you're not in the mood for wine, they offer excellent coffees too!

It's a great spot to go after work or on the weekends.

The best part about Chelsea's is how it's different than most other bars in the area.  It feels like a house when you walk in.  There's just one small (wooden, rustic) bar up front and not much of a line.  There's a "living room" downstairs, with comfy chairs, couches, etc. to sit and visit.  Or go upstairs for more seating area.  There isn't any inherent entertainment other than a few TV's.  Which is what makes this place nice, it's about the company.  It's quiet and great for conversation.  If you hit a lull, just grab one of the many coffee table books around.  Outside is plenty of picnic table seating, also enjoyable (although the view is mostly parking lot with a side of harbor).

I have not partaken of the wine selection, but it seems to be extensive.  Actually, that's not true, if/when they have homemade sangria wine, I've had it and you will want to try it.  Last I was there it was discounted for ladies at like $1 and quite tasty.

For beer, Chelsea's has a very good tap selection (and I'm a beer connoisseur)  and also not a bad bottle selection (significant import selection).  You will certainly find something you like.    Plus specials every day, beer, wine, and food.

Speaking of food, selections are limited, there usually isn't a kitchen so most selections are cheese plate types, sometimes they'll have a pot of spaghetti going at a good price.  You don't want to go here for a meal, head next door to Boondoggles (and deal with the crowds, limited seating, etc.).

This is the kind of place you schedule to meet a small group if you'd like a couple of drinks and conversation, which fits my bill on several occasions.

Good white sangria, old fashioned coffee shop ambiance, great wine selection, but it can be overwhelming, and the person working the cashier wasn't exactly helpful in narrowing the wine selection down for us, so that was a big turn off for me since they pride themselves on their wines. It's close to where I live, and my friends and I like to go here to catch up.

Sunday night they have a $10-15 steak deal that I heard is amazing. Will be back to check it out.

Panini's were more bread than fixings.
Space was large. Upstairs was nice and intimate . Intricate murals downstairs, and live music is a plus. I will visit here again, as it had a beautiful beer and wine selection - that I can truly say was impressive.

This is a good spot if either (a) Boons is too busy (b) you want a nice atmosphere to hang out with a few friends or (c) you wish for a low-key night with your significant other.

The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and the prices are decent. Be warned - ordering can sometimes take quite a long time thanks to ridiculous middle-aged women who pretend to be pretentious wine wizards and take forever to shut up and pick a bottle.

Yeah, yeah, its not your average wine bar in that you order at the bar and then go find a seat...but it's charming in ways that those perfectly polished, stuffy wine bars are not. I've been to others and sure, they're brand new and sparkly and made to be reviewed by the Houston Press, but they're sort of impersonal and lack the coffeeshop comfort of Chelsea that I have come to know and love.

Maybe I'm getting old, and maybe there really is a dormant hippie somewhere deep inside of my being but there are few things I love more than buying a glass of a nice Pinot Noir and staring off into space over Clear Lake listening to Neil Young over the house speakers at Chelsea. Occasionally I'll take my laptop but put it away when I feel myself wanting to check reddit, and other times I'll grab one of the weird hodge podge coffee table books down on the bottom floor. Every time I go, I end up really chilled out...and it's not all because of the wine!

Unlike other recent reviewers, I've never had anything but exceptionally friendly, helpful, and professional customer service. I'd actually rate it on the conversational, bordering on personal side before I'd ever say it is rude, detached, or inappropriate. Maybe things have changed in the past few months since I've last gone, but I find those things hard to believe. If they ARE true, I hope the management addresses it because I adore this place and would hate to have a bad experience there.

The food is really great too! We don't typically go without ordering the baked goat cheese and garlic bread and you shouldn't either (unless of course you don't enjoy cheese then it definitely wouldn't be up your alley). We've ordered the charcuterie plate a couple of times and really enjoyed it too. The wine selection isn't exhaustive or even anything super high end, but who cares? If that's what you're looking for, there are plenty of super expensive black tie wine places in the city that would be perfect for you. Just leave Chelsea for the rest of us heathens who just want a relaxed, enjoyable chilled-out wine spot with no pretension.

I came in wanting to cut this place up on the review. For some reason....I just never really liked it.Dark, filled with wine drinkers....anyway who goes to a wine bar and complains the bar staff is "rude" or its dark full of wine drinkers? LOL. I guess a few people. Myself , I like surly bartenders.Bar staff comes in two flavors. One , looks at you like your an idiot. One kisses your ass. Either way , I'm getting what I want. Is the wine any good ? Couldn't tell you. Alot of it was being consumed. Beer ? Can't help you there either. Food ? I don't really eat in wine bars , so...nothing for you. Coffee ?An improvement. I think it was"american classic". Basically double shot of espresso and water. Had way too many. What am I doing in a wine bar drinking coffee ? Dont you have other things to worry about ? Looking for a cozy but still spread out format to enjoy some adult beverages , listen to some music and relax. Come on , it'll be fun.

    Bartender was RUDE!

I would normally never go to Chelsea Wine Bar all the way out in CLEAR LAKE! But, I went to see Stefanie Fix play. She is always amazing.

The male bartender was extremely rude at first and that just soured my attitude from then on. The female bartender could see that I was astonished by his rude comments so she came over and helped me right away.

The way that you have to order here is a joke. Everyone has to wait in a line (more like huddled into a corner all looking at each other awkwardly) at the counter while the bartenders just stay behind the counter. There is no table service, only bussers. Kinda weird. I did not go outside, but it looks like they have a nice 2 story deck outside that overlooks some lake.

The wine selection was so so, most stuff on the BTG menu is stuff that you can get at the grocery store.

Sunday is $10 steak night..what?!?! AMAZING! They have the choicest (is that a word?) cut of meat! I'm not a huge carnivore but oh man! The meat just melts in your mouth! It's not pretentious at all. No fancy plating, decor or designs on the plate- salad starter, slab of meat and some creamy mashed 'taters! What more do you need? If you haven't yet, you better soon! They only get so much meat from the butcher so get there early (5:30'ish is pretty safe). OMG...I'm starving just typing this!

Met some friends here the other day for drinks.  The service has that friendly veneer with a slight undercurrent of hostility.  The wine I had was good, but old.  Probably had been sitting in an open bottle for a while.  The food was surprisingly decent.  We had a mix of appetizers that were all fairly decent, not stellar, but good.  We finished it off with smoores.  Never had smoores at a table before.  They had a little flame thing to toast your marshmallows on and a tray of graham crackers and hershey's chocolate.  Pretty cool, I give them the third star just for that!  The atmosphere is dark with lots of wood.  All in all an interesting experience.  Probably come back again but not too soon.

Lovely discovery!  Really good wine and munchies.  I requested an Elton John song from the pianist while I was visiting and his wife sat down beside me and we sang along with him (it was early, so we were forgiven).  My husband and sister-in-law were astounded at the harmony the wife and I produced.

Very good selection of wine, friendly people and a place to which I'll return next time I'm in the area.

I'm not from the area but I'm in a position where I have to seek out a couple of local spots where I can have a beer, read my paper, and relax.

I love the layout of the patios and the atmosphere inside is casual and welcoming.

I do appreciate the cute bartender who made me smile several times while I was there.

Overall it was a good expeience and I'd have no problem going back.

Love the atmosphere of this place.

I'm from the nearby Clear Lake area, but I'm also a student at UT in Austin, so I absolutely love how this place has almost of an "Austin coffeehouse" feel to it. It's also by the water so its got a great view.

The building has two floors, with outdoor seating available on both. The ground floor is where the bar to order is located. There's also a small stage area where they typically have a live band/musician playing. There's dim lighting throughout and candles at every table, so this could definitely be a nice date spot. Ample parking in the massive lot shared with surrounding venues. (There's another pub right next to Chelsea's actually.)

    ---

Chelsea's has just about any beer you could want on tap, not to mention a vast selection of wines and even house-made sangria. They also offer a selection of coffees as well as desserts and pastries. There's also some food selections, like sandwiches and salads and cheese plates.

I'm personally still in the process of developing a palette for most beers, but this is a GREAT place to go and try a variety of different beers since they have so many. My personal favorite is any hard cider they have. Crispin apple cider on tap here is way better than the bottled stuff. Also had a pear cider here before that was delish, also on tap. I think it was Magner, but I'm not quite sure.

    ---

This is a great place to come with friends and share a bottle of wine or two as you catch up. Also great if you're a budding beer enthusiast looking to try a new draught or two. And if you're a wee bit peckish, grab a slice of the always-rotating cakes! This place is open late, so grab your friends and stop by if you're trying to figure out what to do later tonight.

The only qualm I have about this place is that I frequently see mugs and glasses and plates left on tables when they aren't super busy. As the building is kind of big, I guess they don't check the tables as often when business is slow.

I think of Chelsea Wine Bar as one of my main places to hang out in the Clear Lake area. The look and feel of the place is awesome, they have a great selection of wines, and I've attended some awesome wine tastings there.

I wish their food menu was a bit bigger but overall, I enjoy the food they offer. The staff has always been really helpful in picking out a new wine.

They also have WIFI, which is an added perk. It has the feel of a coffee house, where you can relax and spend a great deal of time there, just enjoying the ambiance. I also really like the two-level patio!

Awesome little wine bar in Kemah, TX with a rooftop patio upstairs.   Sundays are steak nights where you can get a steak with mashed potatoes for $10.  They have a great selection of wine and cheese plates/charcuterie plates.  A must if you want to watch the sunset over the water but don't want to deal with the Boardwalk!

So I will give this place this much, it is one of the few adequate spots you'll find in Clearlake, TX.  I mean this city isn't full of must go to places so if you are in the area this is almost as good as it gets.
So the pros:  wine selection, entertainment, and cheese plates.
Cons: anything that is not a cheese plate.
I say this with all sadness and seriousness, stay away from their chocolate cake.  I never thought chocolate cake could taste horrible, but this one did.  Dry with no flavor and even bad raspberry jam shoved inside it, this was not the cure to my sudden chocolate craving.  Then there was the awful panini that came before it.  First of all I am pretty sure a panini should be toasted and second of all it's a sandwich, how can you make it bad?  Well, I'll tell you how.  You put rubbery cheese and meat inside of it with wilted lettuce.  Yuck.
So my suggestion is this.  If you are ever stuck in this town and want something to do then go here and get a glass of wine and listen to the live entertainment and enjoy the atmosphere.  And just make sure you went to dinner somewhere else before hand.

For this area of town, it is a great establishment. I drove out for forty-ish minutes to come here because in the Houston area, sometimes, that's to be expected. Plus, I was lured in by the four star rating.

The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic! The inside was a little darker/more mysterious and romantic. We sat outside on the porch and loved it. The weather was great - a little breeze - and no one was smoking so we didn't even have smoke wafts coming our way.

    As far as the food:
We got the three cheese mac and cheese, salami and cream cheese Pannini, hummus, spinach and almond side salad and the Swiss and turkey Pannini.

The ones definitely worth getting again were the hummus, the mac and cheese and the salad.

The salami Pannini had cream cheese, spinach and strawberry jam. When I found out there was strawberry jam in there I was a bit taken aback. But I decided to be adventurous and try it; I don't think I'll want to eat my salami pannini with strawberry jam again anytime soon.

I ordered the spinach and almond side salad but the salad I got had mixed greens and no almonds -- as such, I'm not sure which salad I actually got, but it was good.

I would go back here if I were in the area and in the mood for a casual dinner with good friends and great conversations.

We had a great time there.  It is very relaxed and they have lots of outdoor seating.  The bands they had up and downstairs were really fun.  We went the night they had the astronaut band and they were great!  It was kind of cool seeing astronauts play instruments and I am told the flute player played in space a duet with Jethro Tull.  Anywho I disgress, but it's fun.  I wish they had a little more selection of wine they only had like 40 bottle to choose red and white from the wine list and there wern't any real exotic choices to choose pretty standard, but overall I will go back definitely!

I wish I could give 3 1/2 stars.  The service was better, except the person who waited on us did not know what Chimay was, and I ordered Premiere, and got Grande Reserve (at the increased price).  The steaks are now filets, very tender, but if you want medium rare, you need to order rare.  Somehow they have a hard time cooking the steaks to order and over cook them.  They are smaller than the rib eyes and do not come with mushrooms.  The potatoes that come with it are instant.  Beer prices are good for a bar.  The general manager was very attentive checking with customers, and that was nice.  Goat cheese was yummy again.

    I. Love. Chelsea's.

It is one of my favorite bars in the CL/Nasa/Kemah area. I love the quaint, relaxed atmosphere. I've been here with great dates, great books, great friends. It's always a nice, chill time. The staff isn't overly attentive, but are well-informed if you have any questions or need recommendations. Even though I'm more of a robust red-wine kinda girl,  ladies night is great. $1 Sangria that doesn't taste at all watered down is never a bad thing.

Chelsea is what it might look like if a library and a wine bar were wrapped inside the same place. I absolutely love the feel of this place. It's almost hidden from the rest of the world and it's one of those places that you almost lose all comprehension of the outside world. There's a great selection of affordable wines and I enjoyed a few great glasses of sparkling wine. But the real treat was the jukebox!

This was stop #2 for my bday tonight.  I looked them up on Yelp, although I have driven by the place dozens of times.  The balcony (top and bottom floors) have plenty of seating.  Upstairs you get a great view of the water.  They don't open until 4pm, so the sunsets are gorgeous.

Hint: you order at the bar area and they give you your drinks right away, food they give you a number and bring it to you.

We had eaten dinner just before so we were looking for wine, beer and dessert.  They have a really long list of beer and wine selections in every price range.  I had the Rare Red Blend which was a very tasty red at $8 a glass.  (found the bottle runs about $10 in wine stores).  M had Ace Pear, which is hard to find around here.  I also had a glass of the delish, fresh and fruity Sangria they make.  It was so refreshing.

Lastly, we shared the S'mores for dessert.  They bring a platter of marshmallows, wrapped Hershey bars and graham crackers with a little fire pot (yah, whatever they are called).  We roasted and munched until we were sick.  SOOOO yummy.  and fun!

The food that passed by us looked so good, I almost wished we would have eaten dinner there, too.  Sandwiches, pizza (they call flat bread), salads, and cheese plates.  They all looked so good!

Smoking is allowed on the patio outside, so bring your smoke on!
Live music inside downstairs on this Friday night!  The place is open LATE!  Like 1 or 2 am.  Very MELLOW spot.  Great place to hang out and talk.

Found a fave spot.  Will be bringing the sister/ padres here next week when they visit!

Great place to go to end an evening. Upstairs they have plush comfortable sofas and armchairs. I like this place as its so relaxing. They have live music which sometimes is annoyingly shit. Large selection of port and sherry by the glass. Chill out with a latte and a glass of port just try not to trip over some romancing couple who are contemplating consummating their relationship amidst the upholstery.

This place is great! It's a very cool building. Maybe an old house or something. Upstairs is very dimly lit and romantic, sometimes they have live music up there. Downstairs is the bar and some tables. They also have books and games downstairs, and they play old black and white movies. Definitely not the place to go if you're looking for a wild night. It's pretty quiet. It's perfect when my girlfriends and I want a low-key evening.

This place has all the items to make it a great place.  The setting is great, by the water. Nice old building with good ambiance and decor.  Very pleasant place to spend a couple of hours with the wife..

Wine: Wife had a glass of red wine that she said was very good.  At $8.00 it should be.

Beer: Stout on tap.  How can you go wrong?

Cheese Board: A lot of food for the money $17.50. When I pay this amount for a plate I would like to see better bread, and also be able to choose what kind of cheeses will be served.  All the wines are on display and can be tasted, but no such thing for the cheeses.  I am a cheese freak, and would like to see a large selection.  Maybe this is planed as the clientele develops a taste for the fermented dairy products.

    We will be back.

Considering how large my fail-boat collection is of bad "date places" in the greater Houston area I deferred the "where we meet" decision, and in baseball analogy a triple was hit with the suggestion to meet at Chelsea. Chelsea manages to hit a solid three star rating and is striving hard to attain that extra star for coveted foursies, but they have a lot of work to do before they are ready to join the ranks of foursies.

This place is basically Agora plucked from lower Montrose and dropped on the water.

    Positive:
    Large parking lot.
"Old timey" charm to the building.
Bartender guy behind the counter gives you samples of wine as you try to decide.
Big deck/outside seating area on two different levels.
All of the female workers are super friendly, perky, nice, fun to deal with

    Negative:
A bit pricey for a bottle of wine.
Not a huge wine selection (how big is big? Not sure, but this did not seem huge)
Most of the male workers are not very friendly at all, in fact, sort of rude and short with you
Restroom was not clean at all ... cigarette butts, really?

It still hit three stars. This is a good "let's put on a shirt that was not on the floor for the past week" option. I will come back here.

Chelsea Wine Bar is the BEST hangout in the Clear Lake area. It's local, it feels local and yet it's worth driving across town for. It's meant to look and feel like a English Pub and it does. Good food and deserts, a large selection of wine and even some cider on tap.

CWB has some of, if not the best live music in Houston. Many of the Wednesday night acts come from Austin, TX. Once in a while you might be surpised to find a big name sneaking in under the radar like Blue October. There is indoor and outdoor dining. Parking is decently plentiful but will run out.

I came here last night because my friend played classical guitar live. I liked the ambience of the place. Upstairs is a beautiful view of the water; too bad it was so windy and cold! The place is pretty cozy as well. I drank the Bouchard pinot noir ($8/glass), which wasn't too shabby, and ate the goat cheese. I think I would prefer the goat cheese to be served with crackers (which I ended up requesting) instead of the garlic bread. The garlic bread is so delicious that it doesn't need to be tainted with other flavors.

One thing I noticed is that service was lacking at the area of the bar where there was no cash register. Sometimes people would wait about five minutes, give up waiting, and then move to the side with the cash register, even though it was more crowded. Other than that, once you were served, service was excellent. The ladies at the bar came by to check on you every 20 minutes or so, depending on how full/empty your wine glass was.

If you've never been, note the bar is actually behind the street. You'll see a sign for Chelsea, but then you move towards the back of the parking lot to access the front door. The bar looks like a white house from the outside, not to be confused with the brick house next door (another bar). I don't think there is a dress code. A guy was there in shorts and flip flops, people were there in slacks, and many were in jeans (like me). Also, note sangria is available for $5/glass (not on the menu). Last night's house red wine ($5/glass) was a shiraz with a French name, to give an example of what they consider "house."

I definitely wouldn't mind going again!

The rooftop deck was such an amazing view of Kemah. The weather was nice so that made it even better. The staff/bartenders were really great and the clientele were very laid back. Their house made sangria was awesome and the time I went they had mini cupcakes that were killer. Definitely stop by for a glass of wine and dessert - the conversation there will be fabulous!

Every time i come through Houston/Seabrook and visit the rents' i spend many a night up here catching up on work, etc.

Beer menu is always updating and they really do have the best selection around. Great food (boondoggle's features), and they know how to make a proper espresso drink. + free wifi.

I am going to keep rating this place 5 stars because it would be a jewel in the city let along out here in Seabrook.

Please correct me if I am wrong on the address or any of the other info.
I have been to Boondoggles quite a few times and i never really noticed this little place right behind it or maybe it was next to it - either way it is in the same parking lot. It is a pretty cool artsy bar that has a pretty large selection of wines and not your everyday beers and coffees too, but they have not so nice price tags..Walk in on the wooden floors and see the dark room and you hear great jukebox selection music, see shelves and tables full of  different kinds of literature and puzzles..totally mellow people are sitting around drinking wine and reading. They also have food like home made desserts and croissants -we ate the red velvet cream cake and it wasnt too great (or maybe that is because i was already tipsy off of the chimay). We sat outside for quite a while under the bridge over looking the inlet to nassau bay.

Anyway, i think this place would be GREAT to go to after a dinner date. It is dark, mellow and quiet enough so that you dont have to yell at whomever you are with just to have a conversation..I could totally see Justin Bobby (the hills) hanging here..
