We were very disappointed with this restaurant. It was our first and last visit. Nice interior. Quick service. The food was simply not very good. My food was bland...with a generic brown sauce, and I actually thought my wife's food tasted poor (she didn't care for it either). Prices were a little higher than what we typically pay...which is fine if the food is something you come back for...but not for Chinese Gourmet. I'm sure South Elgin has better Chinese food...
Review Source:First time trying this place even though I've been in the area for the past 5 years. I read all the other reviews first before calling and figured why not. I had a craving for chinese food for some reason. Didn't bother looking at a menu, I already knew I wanted orange chicken, shrimp fried rice, and crab ragoons. Came out to be about 25 bucks. Wasn't expecting it to be that much but  the portions were pretty big so I'm fine with that. When I went in to pick it up, there was 1 couple in there. Kind of felt bad it was so dead. This was a Thursday night if I remember correctly.
As for the food, the ragoons were pretty good. Rice was pretty good. Had a lot of those mini shrimps in it which is great. And the orange chicken was alright. It kind of had a little bit too much sauce for my liking. Though when I called, they asked if I wanted is spicy or not so I wonder what the spicy one would have tasted like. Place is a-ok, didn't blow my mind at all. Average is about right. Nothing wrong with average
This was my first visit to Chinese Gourmet and it will not be my last. I Â decided to try it on a whim after my workout at Fitness 19 a few doors down. The egg rolls were large & crispy with a very good filling. Â The mongolian chicken needed more spice but the portions were large and was more then enough to feed two hungry people. ( I guess I will have to order the mongolian chicken extra spicy next time.) Â I will certainly be trying out their lunch specials. Â There is a lot of seating inside, but looks like they do mainly carry out. Â I agree with the other reviews and definitely recommend.
Review Source:This is your typical Chinese restaurant that has good food served quickly. You can order for take-out, delivery, or dine in. I dined in with my parents. Our waitress was very welcoming and helpful. It was sort of empty for a Saturday night, but they did have a lot of take-out orders. This place has decent food and awesome employees. Will return for more chicken chow fun (which they made our noodles crispy, hmm).
