My actual experience this time warranted a 2 on the food, but my prior experience was much better. The ambiance is nice and the wait staff attentive. We went with our neighbors for the early bird special which was good a year ago. Maybe it is food inflation but the offerings were chicken and pasta centric and the were very heavy on the butter to the point of being inedible. I comforted myself with my 1/2 price bottle of Rhone ( they do have a nice wine selection). My friend ordered off the regular menu and had a steak which she much enjoyed. I will not make the same mistake again. Pricey or not it is the regular menu for me.
Review Source:if you are going on a friday evening during season at around 6, make sure you have a reservation, or sit al fresco which we did - the outdoor area is lovely, and they had propane heaters on this wonderful january evening ...
we sat down just before 6 and asked for the early menu - we were denied the option - server had some lame excuse about being seated by 5:45 - did not let this effect our evening, they did have a drink special until 6:30 and the bloody mary's were some of the best ever had ...
salad and pot sticker appetizer very good ...
wife fillet cooked as requested, and my pepper crusted seared tuna was quite a treat ...
service was spot on
no room for dessert
when leaving, about 7:30 - the place was absolutely packed
nice restaurant for a birthday celebration, menu is pricey ... however, the old adage applies - you get what you pay for ...
We love(d) Chops. It has been a staple restaurant when we take friends out and travel between Naples and Bonita. Amazing selection of liquors and nicely prepared menu. The bartenders are incredible and the wine and liquor selection is top notch (small batch bourbon/gin/vodka you rarely see out in SWFL). Â Food has been pretty good - not great - but the experience, variety, and staff made us come back.
I'm really reticent to write this review, but the last time we ate there we a terrible experience. The night after Thanksgiving, my wife and I ate at Chops and everything was fine until a few hours later when my wife became violently ill. She couldn't stand. She was vomiting, sweating, completely ill and disoriented.
I took her to the hospital and called Chops to let them know there was a bad batch of Oysters they should avoid serving everyone. The manager assured me that no one else has gotten sick so it's likely not the Oysters - thanks me for the call and denies anything to do with it. (Side Note: I don't eat Oysters. Since it was Thanksgiving, my wife and I had eaten the exactly same foods for the previous 48 hours - aside from the Oysters.)
I spent that night in the ER with my wife constantly throwing-up; carrying her from the room to the bathroom and re-inserting her IV. The doctor confirmed it was a shellfish borne illness and kept her through Sunday while she recovered. In addition to the toxic oysters and hospital bill, we also missed a yearly animal benefit we had purchased tickets for months ago.
When we called back on Monday, we spoke with the manager and he tried to downplay the issue. Not ONCE during this entire time did anyone offer an apology or offer the bare minimum (refunding the check) - even though my wife was deathly ill and ruined 3 days of our Thanksgiving Holiday.
Look it up: even one bad Oyster can cause food poising. To try to deny this and be condescendingly dismissive when your customer is deathly ill is a terrible response.
I really do like this restaurant, but the experience the one time something went wrong has ruined our experience here. My wife swears she will never go back.
The steaks were great. Â The problem was that everything else we had sucked. Â
Watermelon salad: Â Great in theory, but it was so drenched in dressing all you could taste was dressing. Â
Caesar salad: Â Picture a salad so swamped in dressing that it was like a stew. Â The lettuce was disgustingly soggy and drenched. Â
Spicy Hawaiian Roll:  This was the biggest disappointment of the night. The description on the menu is "colorful array of shredded tuna, hamachi and nairagi in a spicy sushi rice roll with jalapeño "yum yum", ponzu and pickled ginger."  What actually arrived was a single colored "mash" wrapped in seaweed that tasted like mayonnaise.  Disgusting.
Steaks: Â We had NY strips and a petit filet, all of which were cooked perfectly and tasted great. Â One of them was Pittsburgh style medium rare and they nailed it perfectly, which is not common. Â What a pity that the rest of the meal was so awful. Â The sides were okay, but just not "special" and of the caliber they should have been for a decent place. Â Also, one of our party ordered prime rib (it was 7pm) and the waitress came back 10 minutes after we ordered and told us they ran out. Â
As far as service...we had a very friendly waitress. Â That said, we had to flag down another waiter later for waters because she had disappeared. Â Oh yeah...when they brought out our meals the first time, no one had cleared any plates so they had to bring them back to the kitchen and send someone to clear the table first. Â Not a terrible mistake but it should not have happened---the food is that much less hot when it does come. Â
Just bad experience. Â I strongly suggest you find someplace else, as there are many choices in the area.
Bad service, okay food but way over priced. Â Definitely a step below Morton's or wildfire, a more acccurate comp the outback, yet this place twice the price. Â Their deal munu was okay, but misleading, and not much of a deal. Â Nice decor, but was very cold. Â Overall it was okay, but it gets two stars because when you pay big money for a meal, it better be better than okay.
Review Source:I could not have been more disappointed with not only the restaurant but the horrible follow up. We were recommended to the restaurant by our hotel as we were visiting the Naples area. The meal was nothing short of a complete disaster and a horrible experience. First off, the "three" lobster cakes became two and when we questioned this, the General Manager said that the owner "did not speak good English" and while they tried to change the meal (instead of false advertising) they would not let him. Then the fish we ordered came--completely raw inside to the point it could not even be opened up. The prime rib also came filled with black pepper and the waiter indicated that "the pepper shaker probably fell in." They did  bring us two new entrees but the med rare steak was so red that the entire plate was filled with blood. We did not eat the meals (they left the cold sides and did not bring out new ones) and really wanted to simply get out of there to avoid any more wasted time. It took forever for the waiter to even bring the check and they left on the entrees that went back. I called three times to speak with the manager but was told there is a gentleman Keith who handles all the complaints. It is a really bad sign for a restaurant when they have one person who does nothing but complaints. He was borderline rude and thought it was appropriate to send me a gift card for $5.00. I was insulted and simply told him to forget it. The restaurant is a complete disaster and it is only a matter of time until they close up. Stay away!
Review Source:This was a special occasion dinner. We were early and were pleased to find an 'early bird' menu until 6:30 pm - 2-2 course dinners $39.95 plus half bottle wine.
We stuck to red meat, steak and prime rib, and were not disappointed. All food was cooked to order and the salads, appetizers, and side dishes were quite good.
Baked potato only had sour cream & bacon toppings - the only change I would suggest is the addition of either some fresh chives or minced scallions as an option. They served fresh parsley with the meals, it is within the kitchen's capabilities without a stretch.
All in all a memorable and enjoyable experience.
Birthday Par-Tay Celebration. Â I reserved by phone to let them know it was a special occasion. Â We were seated at a primo booth, and our meal ended with a chocolate lava cake with rasberry hearts and spun sugar, with a lit birthday candle and WITHOUT any annoying house singing.
Our diners had the 7 oz filet, aged at Chops with a proprietary method, the salmon which was seared to perfection leaving the center pink, and a beef oscar with lumps of succulent crab.
2 for 1 Â Happy Hour was just ending, but we were treated to a warming Pinot Noir and the birthday girl had a set of double vision Cosmos to nurse through dinner. Â
Our server was attentive and cordial, anticipating whatever we needed. Â Though it is bistro style, the decor keeps the sound level controlled.
A good time was had by all. Â Now I want to come back for MY birthday!!
The food is just fair ( the yellowfin  tuna dish is really the best thing on the menu) . Anyway this is another overpriced Southwest florida mediocre restaurant. There customer service is horrible...when we arrived there were 3 people at the entrance complaining about different issues and all they could say is "we are sorry"....oh the the special that a few reviews talk about is only from 5pm- 5:45pm.....and now only includes 2 courses and no wine.
Review Source:Very tasty meal indeed! Started with the iceberg wedge with blue cheese dressing...quite yummy. The calamari was very tender and had a delish dipping sauce. The 6oz filet mignon was cooked perfectly. Hubby had the tuna cooked rare and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ended with apple pie a la mode which was AWESOME (def a must-get)! Service was kinda slow, but server was super nice. I attribute the slow service to the overly packed restaurant - - even on a Monday...current special is $39 for app + entree PLUS free bottle of wine. Can't really pass that up! I would def return if in the area again.
Review Source:Maybe in the realm of steakhouses it would be a 4 star place but for my lack of comparisons I could not go past three. I enjoyed the New England Clam Chowder though it was quite different than what I would expect for this type of chowder and the blackened salmon entree was very good. They were running a special menu for couples on Sunday and Monday that includes a 'free' bottle of wine that we took advantage of and it seemed to be quite a hit for bringing people in to the restaurant -- looking at a packed place with nearly every table having wine bottles on them.
Review Source:This review would be a 4 star for my entree and a 3 star for my appetizer, if that were an option.
For my starter, i ordered the sushi trio. The tropical shrimp roll was one of the best rolls I've ever eaten - I must try to recreate it back at home! The california roll used imitation crab which is unacceptable in a region where fresh crab is readily acceptable. The spicy tuna rolls were good but somewhat drowned in their spicy sauce - a little less would have been good. I wanted to order a sake cocktail with this app, but out server forgot to provide us with the full cocktail list. Only after leaving did we learn that there's an extensive list of specialty cocktails, including some with saki. That bummed me out a bit, hence the low rating.
The meal itself was delicious. I got a 12 oz New York Strip, dry aged for 21 days, finished off with blue cheese. The steak was cooked to perfection, and I couldn't have asked for anything better. As a side, I had creamed spinach with crispy onions, and the portion size was HUGE! If you go with a crowd and everyone orders off the grill portion of the menu, choose a variety of sides and share. I left half of mine on my plate.
Service was spotty - the waiter twice served my food to my mom instead of to me, which is a pet peeve of mine. I like to have the initial "Ooooh" moment with my food, so when that gets dropped in front of someone else, it's a real bummer. The restaurant was crowded, so maybe that's what caused our waiter to seem somewhat absent throughout our meal.
The ambience is great and the food really was delicious; just avoid peak times so you don't experience the same server woes we had.
A very classy and romantic atmosphere, Chops is your typical steakhouse, but slightly above average. I had a filet with the loaded mashed potatoes - very tasty and filling. Â My bf had a chicken dish, which was only OK, but again, his mashed potatoes were also deelish. Â And my drink of choice was the cherry blossom sake - its a chilled sake with a sweet hint of raspberry flavor. Â Our server was pretty good - he was helpful enough when I had a bunch of questions about the menu.
Review Source:Steak house with a twist. Â I have issues with "traditional" steak houses where they grill a filet, steam some broccoli and bake/steam a potato and charge $50 for a meal I could easily make at home. Â Chops adds that certain extra. Â My meal started with a mixed greens salad with macadamia-crusted Chevre cheese with strawberry balsamic dressing. Â Entree was a terrific teriyaki glazed sea bass with papaya-kaffir lime sweet and sour sauce served with Maine lobster stir-fry and coconut stikky rice. Â Husband had the filet with blackberry cabernet sauce. Â While Chops is known as a steakhouse/grill, it's obvious they're way more than that. Â Service was efficient yet unobtrusive and drinks were great. Â Highly recommend.
