We came here the other day for a company luncheon. It's centered inside a very nice and newer area (the Palladio), so the location is definitely up to par. We ordered a variety of appetizers to begin with -- spinach stuffed mushrooms, grilled artichoke, baked crab and artichoke dip, and calamari. They also brought out complimentary dip and what looked like a sun dried tomato spread. Let me tell you,t he spinach stuffed mushrooms were the clear winner winner chicken dinner! Can you say freakin' AMAZING??? We were all raving about them! The first bite was an explosion of creamy goodness! SO, SO ridiculously good. I didn't try all the appetizers but I have to say, I was super disappointed with their grilled artichoke, which I did try. It was completely bland and lacking any kind of flavor! It definitely needed some kind of seasoning or salt to get it that pizzazz.
For my lunch, I ordered their steak salad -- grilled bistro filet with chopped romaine, mushrooms, toasted hazelnuts, chopped egg, avocado, diced tomatoes, red onions, bleu cheese crumbles, tossed in a creamy bleu cheese dressing; it also came with petite onion straws, which I passed on. The steak was very good, not dry at all, and the salad itself was super tasty and filling! The waiter also ground some fresh pepper on top. The one complaint I had was that the "creamy" bleu cheese dressing the salad was tossed in wasn't creamy at all! I actually even asked our waiter if there was dressing at all on the salad since I could barely detect the flavor nor change in the romaine's color with the dressing on it. He did offer to bring out a side of the bleu cheese dressing, which I drowned my salad in. There was also a generous serving of avocado (always appreciated.) The salad was so big that I couldn't even finish it. Definitely a must try for steak and salad lovers out there!
So, why did I give this place 4 stars, instead of 5? Funny story, don't judge me ... their bathrooms are ridiculous! By ridiculous I mean the measurements are completely off. The toilet is very high (so high that my feet don't even touch the ground when I'm sitting on it! Yes, I am 5'2" but still, that's not short by any means!) and what's worse is that the toilet paper dispenser is VERY low, to the point where you really have to reach down in an uncomfortable position to grab some TP. No bueno! I knew it wasn't just me being overly critical or crazy when a coworker of mine mentioned that to me, too, before I even said anything.
Overall, I love this place, though I will try to avoid using the loo there next time. Ain't nobody got time for all that TP grappling when they're trying to let nature run its course!
Came here for dinner with my mom and sisters. The service was good. Waitress was friendly and very quick. Our drinks were great. I had their bloody mary and dirty vodka martini, which were both just perfect. The food is a different story...
I had the steak and lobster. Lobster just ok, a little bland and chewy. The steak just BLAH, tasteless and rubbery. I have had better steaks at Outback for a fraction of the cost. This place is over priced for the quality of the food. I like to give places another chance but for these prices, most likely will not be coming back. Needs improvement!
Living towards Natomas, the drive out here was a freaking road trip! I know there's a downtown location, but we were meeting a group of friends here.
The Palladio itself is really nice. Chops is no exception. We came here around 7:40pm, and since I always research place before going to eat, I knew that Happy Hour didn't end until 8pm! Since we were in the dining area, we couldn't get happy hour, but we just went up to the bar and ordered our drinks. Drinks were strong, so it was definitely worth the money. Happy hour is mostly beers, and each day there will be one type of mixed drink. The bartenders were very nice.
For dinner, my boyfriend and I ordered the steak skewers for appetizer. They were good, but not as great as I had hoped. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Linguine, and he got the Two Tails. I don't care for lobster, but apparently it was really good. The Smoked Salmon Linguine wasn't that great. It was actually a little bit bland. I didn't even want to take the leftovers.
3 stars for the mediocre food, 5 stars for the great service.
Service was great and I like the atmosphere but the place was empty on a Tuesday night at 7:30pm, even though the theater and all of Palladio's was busy.
Why, well the food isn't good and it isn't inexpensive below average food. Some stuff was obvious that this owner doesn't understand the Folsom market and some stuff was that this owner doesn't have a great kitchen staff.
But come on, survey your guest and be willing to change...makes me wonder why someone would open a restaurant if they didn't want to please their guest....did I mention the place was empty!
I am going to review the service. Can you say NOT SO MUCH.  Andrew or Anthony (can't remember) but self stated long time employee has a seriously bad attitude. It took 10-15 min to be acknowledged. Had I been alone I would have walked out. Then when he brought the meal incorrectly he fought with me.  Seriously? When he pulled out his scribbled list I pointed out the order he delivered correctly  was for the guest to my right. I had ordered the same thing but with mashed potatoes. All he could say was "Oh you're right" Not I'm sorry, my mistake or by your leave! boooo  THEN it took 4 ever to get the right meal.
It was so overpriced for a bit of salmon and some mashed potatoes.
If you need a steak - go to Outback. You will enjoy it much more.
I went here about a month ago on a date. And the service was amazing. The food was amazing. They ran out of one of the appetizers we ordered of the stuffed mushrooms, so got another appetizer comped. we will have to come back to have the mushrooms another time and try their cocktails. Our server James was fantastic and made the experience at chops even better and I will definately come back and ask for him again.
Review Source:Crab Artichoke Sandwich was amazing, OMG! Â Whole fresh pieces of crab inside and not diluted with mayo or sauce. I got it with the garlic mashed potatoes as a side. Well worth the $15. I have to say very impressed with the service, presentation and quality of food. Can't remember the servers name but it was a tall older gentleman with tons of personality, we really appreciated his recommendations. We will be back!
Review Source:Excellent reception even though there was some confusion. Reservations are for 6 or more.  This place has personnel management working. Everyone there seamed genuine and engaged. Dan the manager saw that we were comfortable and taken of. Luke and the other bar staff were excellent and new their jobs. Leslie was fabulous as our waitperson. She understood our needs and catered to us. This place is fabulous without the pomp and snob of LO. Had fillet and tail and my wife had two tails. Lobster cooked to perfection. MR. I have to eat meat MW now but they know how. Perfect light pink. We sampled several of the libations and had wine by the glass. Coffee to finish with  the cream brûlée. We will be back again and again. Loved the noise level. It was just loud enough so you could not hear your neighbors talking. There r some appetizers have my eye on when we return. . Ciao
Review Source:I went here with my mother. We ordered Calamari for appetizer and it was pretty delicious, i've had better but this is pretty good. I ordered the Chops Calamari Steak Sandwich and Baked Macaroni and Cheese. With the first bite, I was hooked. The sandwich was mouthwatering. I only ate half of the sandwich and tried the Mac & Cheese. It wasn't that special, but tasted way better than the boxed Kraft Mac &Cheese.
The food was pretty good, i'd give it 4 stars. So why did rate Chops a 3? Well the service was not up standard. There was only one guy working, so it was understandable that he was a little busy but he served people, that arrived later than me and my mom, before us. He rarely checked up on us and when taking our order, I had to repeat myself several times. Overall I really liked the food, but I wouldn't come back because of the service. Maybe other Chops locations are better.
This review is mainly for the bar/lounge area. I love this place for happy hour. Â Drink specials and a long list of appetizers at low prices make this place great for a drink and a light meal. If you like veggies, try the green plate-it's seriously fabulous. Â All the staff are super friendly, especially Chuck.
I have only had dinner here once. Â The service in the dining room was great also, my lobster not so much. It was mushy. They corrected the item, and were super friendly about it.
The mixed reviews on this place here on Yelp made me think I should try it and see for myself. Well Yelpers, it's not great.
The decor is very contemporary and reminded me of a bay area restaurant. Suffices to say, we're about the food and service but the decor is nice if a bit stark.
The food is less than impressive, especially given the prices. For two couples and only TWO glasses of house Pinot Grigio, the bill was $250.00 (with 15% tip). That's not your average bill, even for a Folsom steakhouse. But if the food is steller, hey it's a special occasion place. But again, it's not steller.
First, the bread and butter. The waiter made a big deal of the "sun dried tomatoe infused butter". Whatever. It was not special. And the bread they brought out first (focaccia bread, sliced to about 1 inch thick) was cold, stale and dry. The second round of  bread was clearly fresh, hot and soft. Huh? Did we get the remains of last night's bread the first time?
We ordered house salads and one ceaser. They were swimming in dressing which made the greens limp. Not good.
The other couple with us shared the Porterhouse for two. I know Porterhouse steaks and this one was not sized for two. After cutting it off the bone, the filet and the strip side, the meat quantity was on the light side. Sides were just OK - not inspired.
I had the ribeye steak with the demi-glace and sauteed onions (told them to hold the Gorgonzola). It was sized right, cooked to my order (medium) and I was happy with it. I did order french fries as a side just to see what they were going to do with them. They were served med. cold, greasy and not even golden brown. Not good.
Wife had some kind of salmon pasta. It was literally swimming in a very watery butter sauce, the pasta was limp and the salmon - we're still looking for some.
Desserts were similarly pedestrian (usual stuff - chocolate cake, cheesecake, apple crumble, etc.).
Brian, our server, did a very good job. He was attentive, timed the courses well and knew the menu. My only negative is his quiet tone - hard to hear and I think somewhat unnecessary. But he was the bright spot at Chops.
I won't be back to Chops. Too bad as the location in the Palladio is great, the parking is easy and other than Land and Ocean (NOT) and Sutter Street Steakhouse (tre-expensive), it's the only game in Folsom. But I'll keep looking for a reasonably priced steak and seafood place in my neck of the woods.
Went for Easter Sunday early dinner with the fam. I never would choose a restaurant like this, in the first place, since I'm into cozier funkier atmospheres.
This is kind of what you'd expect in the Palladio... A generic looking restaurant with not much of an atmosphere from the decor. Add some life and personality, people. I guess they are going for modern and clean.
The manager was very friendly and put in an extra effort to speak with us mulitple times. The hostess and server were both very young and very friendly, maybe seeming a bit new at what they do, but giving it their all and were quite pleasant.
Everyone in my party got a version of steak, which came with a baked potato and carrots. They all complained that their meals came out cold. Must've been waiting on my meal.... Cause my fries were HOT! So, they all asked for their plates to be reheated. I wouldn't have minded getting my plate a little later than them if it would have gotten their meals to them hot.
I drink a ton of water and my glass was always full.
My burger was fine, the fries were good. I'm not big on steak houses in the first place, but my mom said her steak was quite good, and np one seemed to have any complaints after their meals got warmed.
Personally wouldn't go back with all the other choices out there. Â Unless they started having a guy playing violin play music by your table. :) add some personality!
There were two couples, and we went to celebrate a birthday. The waiter was nice, buy the dinner was not worth the price we paid for it. I was so disappointed. The couple we went with had been to the one in Sacramento, and they commented on the difference. I will not go back, even if I am craving a great steak.
Review Source:This looks like another mediocre corporate chain restaurant with its location in the Palladio next to the movie theater. But it's not - a big chain, that is. Chops is locally owned and this is outlet number-two. The first one is in downtown Sacramento.
The overall experience is ok. The service is solid, the food good, the prices a little spendy. There aren't many $40-plus entrees in the Sacramento-area, but Chops offers a few. Lamb chops cost $42, almost as much as a 28 oz Porterhouse steak roughly the size of Lake Michigan. One person in our party ordered the Porterhouse and, despite some girth and high hopes, only made it halfway through. Dude won't be on Man vs. Food any time soon.
Others in our party had the filet, some fish dishes, and osso buco over polenta and a sprig of sauteed spinach. The osso buco was good but won't make anyone forget North Beach.
Stopped in for a pre-movie drink and nibble. The restaurant is kind of modern but also pulls off cozy. My girlfriend and i sat at the bar and were promptly greeted. We ordered the green plate and a few cosmos. The food wasn't exceptional, but it was good. The drinks were delicious and our bartender Luke was good company. He even convinced us to get another round, though it didn't take much convincing. Â All together it was a good experience and we will definitely be back.
Review Source:Swing and a miss!
This place wants to be Ruth's Chris, but it's not. Specifically, my steak was cooked properly, but was pretty cold when it made it to the table, so i guess it had been sitting around for a while before it was delivered. They re-heated it for me when i asked, but it should have been served promplty to begin with.
Chops needs to step up their service and work a little bit harder on their food before they start charging premium prices.
My kids and I celebrated my birthday here. Â We are from Folsom so we decided to try this out instead of driving to downtown. Â Big mistake. Â
Service
- Bad manners.
- Server trying to be funny but ended up being sarcastic.
- They did not let us finish the salad by the time we got to our steak it was cold. Â Beside the appetizer they brought everything out. Â Felt like they wanted us out right away.
Place
- Nice and clean. Â That is for the one star.
Food
- Â Bad the calamari was not cook so well.
- Steak was bad bad bad....Porterhouse, that was very bad. Â The waiter gave us steamed sauce so our steak will feel hot. Â The steak was like the steak you get at Denny's but bigger.
Honestly right now I am still recuperating from food poison. Â I am sure I got this from Chops.
In fact this is my first time at yelp. Â This is my first review. Â I really thought this was a waste of time, but this review really deserves Chops.
I came here the other night with some co-workers. Â Their wine list could be better. Â The service was great but the food was just so so. Â I ordered the filet mignon with carrots and a salad with lemon vinegar dressing. Â The dressing and salad were great. Â The steak was bland and really had no flavor at all! Â For a steak house this is surprising.
Review Source:Restaurant- Looks pretty and clean inside. Located in the Palladio. It's in a horrible location because there's limited parking infront of the restaurant.
Price - expensive. They don't have separate menu for lunch and dinner which is a bummer.
Service - Poor.
I bought a groupon deal and I went to try out the place. The clam chowder was salt. The Chicken sandwich was good and so was the french fries's. Iwould recommend the chicken sandwich and the french fries.
I love atmosphere! I usually go to have a drink before a movie or just relax after work. Nancy is the most AMAZING bartender there!!! She absolutely makes the best dirty Martinis and her personality is even better. She gives excellent service, and obviously knows what she's doing. If you need a great happy hour place with great personality go to chops and have Nancy make you a martini!!
Review Source:Ill start by saying that I'm glad Folsom has another steakhouse to chose from BUT my first experience at Chops was disappointing. Â They're nine dollar bowl of clam chowder was lacking in both clams and portion size. Â I could have easily overlooked this but then we had trouble with our filet. Â It was a 12oz filet mignon, ordered medium rare, and it came out completely rare inside. Â My wife and I each cut into it separately so there the steak was now cut into five or six pieces. Â Randy, our server, was outstanding and offered to cook the steak some more. He then informed us that the general manager would be bringing out our filet. Â At this point I assumed that we'd be getting a new cut of meat instead of our pieces of steak back. Â I was wrong. Â The GM brought our pieces of steak to the table and made sure they were now medium rare. Â I have to say that for a $40 filet I was really disappointed that we weren't at least offered a new cut. Â I probably would have said no but at least we would have had an option.
Overall, the incident with the steak really left me feeling like next time I'd rather go back to LO or Sutter Street Steakhouse.
Overrated. Â I've made two trips here, and have decided I won't be going back for a third. Â I have ordered the beef skewers, two different types of quesadillas, and the artichoke. Â The artichoke was so ridiculously small and wilted, that it was as if we paid $12 just to get an artichoke heart. Â Honestly, I think we had 3-4 "edible" leaves off of it. Â All the appetizers were overpriced for what you get, and the cocktails are small, and a bit weak. Â Service is mediocre and could use some fine tuning. Â All in all, our biggest complaint is the price of the small appetizers and the mediocre cocktails.
Review Source:I ordered the pork chop ($20) and house chop salad ($10). Â The pork chop was tuff, and not very hot when it came out. It was a very large portion of pork, but not very flavorful. Â The mash potatoes were freshly made, with parts of the skin still in it. The mash potatoes were lumpy and a little bitter probably from the skin. I will post a photo of the pork chop. I sent the pork chop back, and they did not charge me for it.
The $10 salad was very plain, just cabbage, tomato, and dressing. Something simple like a few crushed walnuts would make the salad almost taste decent, but sadly they were missing. The taste of the dressing was a little bitter, not quite to my taste.
Service was excellent, and the food was brought out promptly. Too bad they are just let down by the food.
Took my crew here for Holiday dinner, 14 total. Â Waitstaff was great. Â Half the food came out cold but it did come all out at once. Â 4 plates sent back to warm up. Â One plate sent back 2 times because first steak was served cold, second steak was butterflied and overcooked?? Â Really?? Â Waitress spilled wine on my new shirt and was kind enough to offer soda water but brand new $80 Nordy shirt is ruined. Â
They did credit $150 off the bill (7%) but damage was done. Â My money bets they are gone by May 2013.
Worst service ever! My friends and I stopped through here on the way to Tahoe and we are sorry that we did. It was a Friday night but they weren't very crowded (at all) and had plenty of servers on staff so we thought service would be speedy. It took about 10 minutes of sitting at the table just to get our drink orders in. After they brought the drinks she didn't even offer to take our order, she just walked away. We all sat there with our menus closed on the table (pretty obvious we were ready to order) and just sat there for another 10 minutes just looking around wondering where our waitress is. Once our food came out we were hoping that the wait was worth it, but it wasn't. The salads were teeny tiny and cost more than the hamburger. I waited around for a refill that never came until we were about to pay. Basically, I won't be going back there again.
Review Source:Absolutely the WORST service we've received anywhere. Our waitress didn't seem to care that she forgot our appetizer after taking a long time to get our drinks we just gave up and went across the street. They should fire the manager and get someone to run the place efficiently. At those prices there's no excuse for that.
Review Source:I know this place is fairly new that's why I'm only giving it 4 stars. I have no doubt that within a month it will be at 5 stars.
My husband and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. Â The space is very modern and somewhat small.
We had to wait an hour to be seated so we got shots and appetizers at the bar. The shots were a decent size and the bartender was friendly. We ordered artichoke hearts and te trio of sliders for the appetizer. The aioli dip that comes with the artichokes is so good. My husband really liked the trio of sliders.
For the entree we got lobster with shrimp and steak. The lobsters the best that I've had, ever. It was seasoned perfectly. It aw cooked perfectly. My husband didn't even offer to share his steak... It was that good. The bread and butter was really good as well
My 3 complaints are these: it took forever to get the food 30 mins for appetizers , the staff is new and kept checking on us (too) often. It's so rare that I get to sped time with my husband that when we go out to dinner I don't want to spend 1/3 of the time interacting with staff. The last complaint is that they switched our sides. It wasn't that bi of a deal since we both shared but still.. If your paying 250 for dinner don't you want the side dish you ordered on your plate?
All in all it was a nice date and I'm sure we will be returning.
Simply lousy. I read one review where the reviewer said the waitress said the "chefs love cooking the steaks" or something. First of all, restaurants don't have "chefs", they have A Chef, and line cooks. This place has line cooks only, I'm guessing and bad ones. Well done hamburger when medium rare is ordered? Forgot the bacon? The salads were a joke as well. Not coming back. Ever. Expensive lesson.
Review Source:Small.....and luckily for me I don't have that problem. Â :)
Small. Â My friends and I ambled over to Chops after being told to pay $10 at Toby Keith's to listen to a band that sounded like loud noise and not music...
Loved the decor. Â Very classy and those beige walls that others are ranting about make no damn sense at all. Â
We all liked the drinks. Â My Pomatini was good and my friend Allison really liked her Manhattan.
We ordered oysters on the half shell and calamari. Â The calamari was very good and fresh.
The oysters were SMALL. Â VERY SMALL. Â I was a bit peeved that they charged $2.50 for their size. Â The bigger disappointment was that the required minimum order was 6. Â $15 for 6 small oysters. Â You're kidding right?
The service was impeccable. Â We sat at the bar and nearly EACH bartender asked us if we were fine and content...
Quick tip(s): Â Don't order the oysters. Â They were good, but not worth the price. Â
HEY DUDES! Â This is a perfect 1st date place. Â They have plenty of apps and drinks and it's a nice place to impress that girl. Â She won't feel creeped out and might even be impressed by your creativity and style.
Okay, we gave Chops about 6 weeks before we headed in this past Friday. I'm hoping that another 6 weeks will give them time to improvet. First the good. The staff does a great job. Our server (Stephanie) was terrific. She knew her menu. She always wore a smile and was really personable. The rest of the staff running the floor appeared to be very helpful and attentive. They have a great wine list. From here it starts to slip.
Neither of us were big fans of the interior decor. Pretty cold. Without a lot of additional time, it would be a lot nicer. Big tall beige walls without anything to set them off are simply ugly. The booths are an interesting touch but it almost seems as though everything in the restaurant could be disassembled and moved out in an hour, just in case.
The food. Some good moments. The Crab Cakes were very good. Barely warm but good. The Hawaiian "style" Poki? A pretty big stretch to call it Hawaiian styled. Not bad but misrepresented and while it should have been served on Napa Cabbage, it came out on red cabbage. I had a small, thin New York that came cooked as I asked. It was okay. Once again, not hot but warm, just like the garlic mashed. Glazed carrots were good. They were even good, warm, not hot. Makes you wonder if these guys are afraid to sever hot food. My better half had Surf and Turf. A fillet with a lobster tail. Portions were large and the meal was appreciated. He thought the lobster was overcooked. I tasted the lobster and thought it was very good.
Here's what kicked it for me. After dinner, a good cup of coffee or a great glass of port along with dessert marks a great or not so great end of a meal. Well, while the dessert menu looked great, they had no port. REALLY? 6 weeks after opening what should be considered a top tier restaurant and you have no port. REALLY?
The floor manager did sit with us for a few minutes to listen to our concerns. He has a lot of work to do and we hope that he's successful. Chops downtown represents itself well. This version, so far, does not. And, for almost $300 for the two of us, including a nice tip, we'll go back to LO or Sienna.
The staff here are very friendly. The menu is very nice and i have enjoyed every meal i have ordered.
This is a new restaraunt so i usually expect some problems with the kitchen, but i've had the filet, new york and the lobster and i have found no faults. I would recommend this restaraunt to any family or friends because i am confident the staff would not let me down.
I was slightly concerned with wait time, but nothing to bad. keep up the great work!
I've been here twice now and enjoyed both times. Â I had the Bistro Fillet, which is really the only option I can afford, but it's delicious! Â The carrots are SO GOOD. Â My steak was cooked perfectly the first time, but just a little overdone the second time with slightly less seasoning. Â Still, the service was courteous and attentive. Â The coffee tasted not-so-fresh both times, but I needed my fix. Â The salad was a salad. Â The mashed potatoes and stuffed mushrooms were delicious! Â They have a nice drink menu and dessert menu I mean to try!
I can't wait for them to be open later, especially during the fall when you can sit and have cocktails outside by the fireplace!
