I'm a New Yorker who went to highschool/middle school in Fart Myers and I'm down visiting my folks. We had a truly great meal from beginning to end at Cibo's tonight. Â Wally the waiter (no joke, that was his name!) was a great guy, as was the hostess. Calamari was very light and flavorful; cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth with great sauces and an arugula salad. My dinner of pulled pork ravioli sounded strange to my parents, but I had a feeling it was going to be awesome and sure enough it was. The slightly 'lemoned' cannoli was a great ending, along with the wonderful wine. Only issue was the portions were too big...my meal was a special, so it was average size. But my parents got something off the menu and they were ridiculously two portions dumped onto one plate, as was the dessert (who provides two full-size cannoli for one?). Americans are already too fat and food is best enjoyed when the portions are fit for human consumption not obese consumption. It's a little gross when there is that much chow on your plate, so I'd hold back a little and have us craving more rather than reaching for the tums from over-eating. That's why they don't get 5 stars.
Review Source:This place is amazing! The service was fantastic, food great, even the bathrooms are cool. The only thing they could improve is location. You would never expect something so great in a strip mall. Time to move to a free standing building or in gulfcoast or coconut point. Great stuff though!!
Review Source:In an area bursting with "Italian" restaurants, this place clearly stands a step above.
Relatively compact menu but each dish is a well composed, satisfying option. The Veal Porterhouse is an obvious choice for those looking for rich, meaty decadence. Served with a Marsala spiked Porcini risotto and grilled Asparagus spears, it delivers all you would hope.
I'm a fan of their seafood options. Nice to see a kitchen that knows how to put a sear on a scallop but leave the melting translucent center intact. Pair a few of these with large prawns on a bed of sweet pea and Parmesan risotto with a moat of red pepper puree and basil oil and each bite is a new adventure.
Really, it's hard to go wrong here. The service is always on point. The wine list is decent, although not overly creative, but then living here I can hardly blame them.
If you've ever been to Fort Myers, you know there are strip malls everywhere. In one of them you'll find Cibo, a nondescript Italian restaurant that gives off a pretty homey feel once you step inside. From the moment we got there, my party of three was well taken care of. The host was gracious in seating us, wishing us a great meal, while our waiter, Wally, was an absolute delight.
My plaudits must stop there, however, as the food was pretty disappointing. I enjoyed the salumi plate that we shared to start, but some of the offerings, like the housemade mozzarella, were a little bland. The Gnocchi con Fungi, despite its unappetizing name, was probably the best thing we had all night. They were light and fluffy, and coated in the most delicious marsala cream sauce.
My entree, a 16oz strip steak with a marsala demi glace, was on special, but it disappointed me mightily. For one, I asked for it medium rare and it came out medium (perhaps even closer to medium well). In addition, the flavor of the meat was lacking, and what little there was was overpowered by a black peppercorn crust that wasn't even advertised. The polenta that accompanied it tasted of little more than plain cornmeal, and a side of broccolini was altogether unremarkable. For $42, I would expect MUCH better. (This must have been the most expensive thing on the menu. Whoops. Make sure to ask how much the specials are before you get too crazy.)
Dessert, a cappuccino cheesecake with an Oreo cookie crust, was pretty good, but tasted nothing like cappuccino. I guess the kitchen forgot to add the flavor? The same could be said of most things we had that night...
Wow, was this a good meal. Â One of my friends had the lasagna, which was the size of a meatloaf but with a wonderful texture and taste. Â The other had this lobster/shrimp concoction over angel hair, while I had a shrimp penne pasta with a vodka cream sauce that was outstanding. Â I think the only shrimp they allow on the plate is the huge 8U type. Â It was probably funny watching three big guys of various ages scarfing off each others plates like we were kids. Â The Cesar Salads were on the mark and the service was over the top, especially considering we came in at closing time and had the last meal before the kitchen closed. Â Great job!
Review Source:tried this place for the first time a week ago and it was excellent.. our server was Deegan who was well spoken and he described each one of the chefs specials in great detail. Service was on point and so was the food. perhaps some ambient music or some type of other white noise would help in the dinning room. conversation was difficult all i could hear was the woman sitting adjacent to us... she would not shut up. appetizers were amazing entrees were spectacular, and dessert...outstanding...
Review Source:Nice place. Busy, and pretty good food.
We had a reservation and were meeting another. We arrived a bit early, gave the reservation name and were seated to wait. The other person arrived early also, gave the reservation name and was seated in the next room. We were both SEATED & WAITING for the other. Knowing we are always prompt, after 15 minutes he called our cell phone to find out where we were, and, of course, we were in the next room.
Let's get it together, guys. One demerit.
Having said all that, this is still a fine restaurant. The filet was beautifully prepared and presented. My salmon was rather ho-hum, and the pasta bolognese was just fine.
They have an excellent wine list, so you'll leave happy.
I was skeptical about an Italian place in Florida, since I'm a snobby NYC elitist. As it turned out, the place was really nice. The food was excellent, generous portions. The bread came around with olive paste, butter, and olive oil. I ordered Penne Vodka, of course. They did a great job with it. For dessert we had a chocolate volcano cake, topped off with a scoop of ice cream, which was also excellent. Cafe Cibo had a nice atmosphere and cute little bar on the other side opposite the dining area. The hostess and waitress were both dolls as well.
Review Source:Cafe Cibo is a tiny (maybe 12 table) restaurant in Bridge Plaza that's often quite full.  I've been for lunch a half dozen times and always enjoyed myself (especially the caprese salad...the mozzarella is some of the best i've tasted, and they use a wonderfully rich balsamic 'syrup' to dj the mouth party the salad creates), though i've stayed fairly basic, having salads and water.  but i recently went for dinner with a friend and had a proper experience, with wine and without workout shorts on.  our waitress  recognized me from lunch visits and paid the perfect amount of attention to our table, despite her full section.  we started off with a slight variation on the caprese salad, with multicolored baby tomatoes and a bit of basil oil to contrast with the balsamic drizzled mozzarella.  amazing.  next we both had risotto (i think it was pistachio, but i had a bit of chardonnay) with skewered scallops and shrimp.  the scallops were charred the way i like, giving the outside some bite with a perfect tenderness inside.  we cleaned our plates.  dessert was vanilla creme brulee, not too eggy, with a crunchy skin.  i'm looking forward to hitting up this spot again.
