The owners and employees here are so sweet!! They have such a welcoming energy, the customer service is the best I've seen in any family owed business.
For example. I was eating there one day, this gentleman came in who was a regular, and he forgot his credit card. They did not turn him away. They worked it out with him. It was amazing to see the PURE DEDICATION and service to the customer. I knew they loved ME, but to see them treat other customers with the same fairness and service was impressive. Â :) Â They always remember me by name, even the cooks. Unbelievable. I love going in there!
THE FOOD!
OMG you MUST try the chicken Kabob Pita! It is out of this world. I seriously order it for lunch almost everyday. Â Amazing Food, amazing people. Way better than any other fast food or even family owned restaurant in the area. And very reasonably priced. They Deliver too!
The food here isn't great, but it's not bad either. The reason I'm leaving a review is the service. The guys behind the counter are some of the nicest I've experienced at fry joint like this. I recommend the falafel. The chicken sandwich is mostly bun, but the ingredients are fresh. It worries me that every time I show up here they're not busy! I'd like them to stay open, especially considering their genuine hospitality.
Review Source:Not a whole lot to say. I got a haircut and was intrigued by the $1.99 hot dog and fries. Can you really make a mediocre Chicago-style hot dog? If it's a beef hot dog and poppyseed bun can't you just put all the fixings and make it respectable? Well, not so much. The dog just didn't taste very good. I'm not sure what brand it was and I'm not sure who made the bun, but combined with the mediocre pickle and all the fixings I just wasn't impressed. The dog had no snap to it!
The fries were lukewarm and pretty bland, despite having some kind of seasoning on it. After passing by this place a million times to and from the Belmont Barbershop I will know not to come here again. $1.99 is not worth it. My stomach deserves better.
When you're jonesing for a hot dog like I am from time to time, this is a pretty decent neighborhood hot dog joint that also has some Mediterranean options. Â The gyros, falafel, chicken fingers, and fries are all passable, but 25 cents for a fountain drink refill? Â Really??? Â It's really clean for a fast food joint every time I've been, an ideal place to stop in for a Vienna dog with the works before getting a quick cut or shave next door at the Belmont Barbershop. Â Unless you're a lady that is. Â You'd look funny with a crew cut.
Review Source:While the $1.99 hot dog and fries special intrigued me, you certainly get what you pay for: a subpar quality hot dog and a handful of decent, if unexceptional, frozen fries. It's not bad for a very quick and cheap lunch, but don't expect anything better than that absolute minimum. I've also tried their falafel sandwich and found it to be nearly flavorless, and their tahini sauce is perfectly awful.
Counter service is friendly, and if you eat in there are plenty of tables and stools, so I can hardly complain about that. Since there's essentially nothing on this stretch of Belmont as far as food goes, I'm sure it's a useful addition to the area, but I wouldn't eat here again unless I really had to.
As I live literally 2 blocks from this place, and walk by it on practically a daily basis, it's surprising to even me that I hadn't been to Cito's before tonight, but I was really craving some french fries. A big problem for me is finding good fries that aren't fried in beef fat or some other animal fat, and Cito's uses pure vegetable shortening. The two guys behind the counter were incredibly friendly in answering my questions and even brought the shortening box up for me to read.
So I ordered a large fry and a grilled cheese (I could have gotten a grilled cheese and a side of fries for 2.50 plus tax, but like I said, I was really craving those fries!) and my total was, with tax, $3.48. SCORE!!!
The fries are really thin and crispy and absolutely delicious and not greasy at all!! And the grilled cheese was better than expected because instead of just buttering the bread, they put garlic and oregano on it too, so it's like a garlic bread grilled cheese and it was PHENOMENAL!!!
I cannot WAIT to go back!! So cheap and SOOOO tasty!!!
surprise surprise. Â when did this place open? Â well since miskas is still closed, we are happy it is open. Â the gyros weighs a couple of pounds & comes with enough delicious yellow rice to feed 2-3, the yogurt sauce is to die for. Â the chicken kebab sammie also stupid big & cost $5. Â they have great deals on dogs, burgers & stuff like that. Â spotless, great service. Â yay :-)
Review Source:Cito isn't in my neighborhood but I have some friends who live across the street so I find myself eating there once in awhile. They are really friendly and the place is spotless. The food is really cheap ($4 and change for most items)
Last night I was there and I used the Diet Pepsi dispenser and it was shake rattle and rolling so I let the guy know (it gave me my drink was was rocking like a washing machine). When I came back in to pick up my food the guy told me he threw in a can of Diet Pepsi for free because the machine was acting weird. How nice! Won't drive from Lincoln Park but when I'm in Roscoe Village I'll make an effort to go there!
It wasn't for the fear of heart attack and high cholesterol, I think I could probably eat gyros every single day. Â I like gyros... a lot. Â Gyro joints in Chicago are dime a dozen with very little, if any, variance. Â Kronos or Vienna brands are your choices. Â That's it. Â Cito's uses Vienna meat. Â I ordered the Gyro plate special and it was good. Â The gyro was nothing original and didn't stand out amongst others. Â Taste one, you've tasted just about all of them. Â I typically don't like seasoned fries, but these were actually quite good. Â Nice job on the presentation of gyro plate in the basket.
On top of my lunch, I ordered a small hummus plate for under $2.00. Â The portion was actually quite large and comes with only 1 pita. Â They should probably make it two pieces of pita, because that is a lot of hummus for one piece of bread. Â
All in all, I liked it and will go back. My biggest gripe is when places nickel and dime you the whole way through. Â Stop charging 50 cents for refills on soda!!!! Â I actually deducted a star for that. Â Really, does it make that much of a difference? No, it doesn't. Â But when you pay with a credit card, the chances I'm going to ring up a 50 charge for a refill isn't going to happen. Â
They do delivery for $2.00 charge.
for a fast food joint, this place is great! I get the same thing everytime so I can only speak for that. The chicken kabob dinner with rice served with a warm, soft pita and a greek salad. It comes with a greek cucumber sauce and I get feta cheese too. It is a huge portion, big enough for both my boyfriend and I to split. The service is always great and you never have to wait long. I was in once while the owners stopped by and they were very friendly as well! I will keep coming back as long as I live in chicago!
Review Source:Very friendly service! Â Good comfort food. Â And quick-- so if you're on your break, or wanna get food FAST and take it home to eat it (like me) this place rocks. Â Very clean inside. Â Cool vintage pics of Chicago neighborhoods, also. Â Specials every day. Â The pricing is so amazingly cheap-- that this place is a little gem. Â
Support this business!  They should stick around.
Simple hot dog, hamburger fair with a sprinkling of Mediterranean for good measure. Â Its not too cramped inside and the bathrooms are clean along with the seating area. Â The staff is polite and the food is usually made pretty quickly. Â Nothing spectacular about the food but nothing bad about it either which is nice when you just want to pick up a meal. Â I would come back here no problem especially with their reasonable prices.
Review Source:I have been coming here about twice a week since starting a job in the area in January.
They offer good lunch specials and what is nice (or boring to some) the specials stay the say, Monday is Gyros, Tues is Philly Steak and the list goes on. Â Ok, I have been going there to long. Â I have not ordered anything other than the "American" food there so I don't have any insight as to the Mediterranean aspect.
The food is decent and reliable, I have never ordered something more than once and have it tastes differently than the first and I think consistency is a good thing.
Service is friendly and quick. Â A good place to grab a quick lunch as they offer seating, take out and delivery. Â They also take credit cards.
