This is the best bar in San Carlos.  Great drinks great bartenders very friendly atmosphere.  They are Dog friendly as well!

They open up at 11 not 3 as the site says and they have $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon on Tuesdays!  How can you beat that!

It's a pub in San Carlos. I am surprised they even have one. Decent selection of brews and a pool table in the back. You can expect some drama late night...I've been here twice and both times been asked to play bouncer.

Good pub for a correctly poured pint of Guinness.

There's pool for a buck. It's not going to impress any date, but if you want to hang out with some of your buds in a non-pretentious setting, here's the place. You come here to drink and chill. That's it.

I'll probably be back--minus 1 star for a drunk fool whose violent (yet friendly) antics kind of put a damper on things... but with a friendly bartender and a proper Guinness in an unpretentious setting, you can't go wrong.

Was in there on a Friday night around 9:30.  Asked for 2 coffee drinks.   Bartender refused to make coffee, said it was too late.  Asked for an after dinner drink made with milk and he said they had no milk.  Bartender was very rude.  We would not go back; they were not even  busy & still very unaccommodating.

Probably a great spot if you live close, are under 25 & think it's appropriate to wear pajama pants in public.  I'm not joking.

So it's a bar, not the greatest but we went not so recently on a weekday post sushi, it wasn't packed so we could actually shoot the shit.
And I understand there's a Ms.Pacman which is probably the only reason for the third star.

It was the sheer opposite crowd you'd find at Town but ironically almost equally entertaining.
Blue moon and hefe on tap, the leather couch was available and nobody was falling over drunk. Except that one really old guy high fiving his local hoodrats.

For anyone who has ever spent time in San Francisco, this is no different than any local neighborhood bar, namely in the Sunset except you won't find as many Irish lads and everyone is under 25 instead of well over 25.

If you're ambitious and happen to be in the area, check this place out but truly don't go running to it.

The only good thing I can say is the beer was cold. The service was bad. There were only 8 people there which should have been my first sign. No greeting and we practically had to beg for service. My beer was flat. We left as soon as hubby finished his beer. I didn't even finish mine. We left and headed to the office. It was 5 stars!

Standard Dive Bar. Not bad for after-work drinks. They don't have a kitchen, but you can order from any local restaurant who will deliver to the bar (ask for menus). There's a pool table in the back, and a smoking patio further back.

My boyfriend and i decided to stop in  on a sunday afternoon.... we sat at the bar and were ignored by the bartenders for about ten minutes... not to mention there were only about 5 people in the entire bar. We finally ordered 2 bloody marys and it took 15 minutes to get them!! The blonde bartender who works there is HORRIBLE! Not to mention she didnt even make them correctley and im pretty sure she tried killing us with the amount of tabasco sauce she put in! The other bartender went to have a smoke as soon as we sat down and didnt say a word to us. Also noticed the blonde didnt know how to work the register... which was an old time one cash only! she had to get help!! Wow, doesnt surpise me. HORRIBLE service... and HORRIBLE drinks. This girl needs to find a new career asap and develop social skills. Very rude people.

So, my Hair Stylist told me that this would  be my kind of place to hang out with friends and enjoy some good drinks... and now?

I am writing in order to pass this information on to you!

We walked right in to Clooney's (after showing IDs to the bouncer ofcourse) on a Saturday night.  The bartender greeted us and took our orders and then we grabbed the booth right by the door.  They played an odd selection of music that didn't quite go with the "That 70s show" playing on the tv, but all in all we loved the atmosphere there!

Everyone was just enjoying their night with friends.  There was plenty of room for everyone to have their own conversations and you don't have to worry about someone knocking into you making you spill your drink on your way to the table from the bar.

I recommend checking the place out for sure!  I know we will be back to mix it up a bit sometime very soon!

The bouncer even chatted with us for a bit and then... when we left a coupe workers were on a break outside and they yelled "Thanks for coming to Clooney's Pub ~ Happy Holidays!" to us!

They are a friendly bunch here for sure!

This is a decent place, I really only go there because I live a few blocks away. It is a little pricey for the type of place it is.  Definitely not enough seating or room on some weekend nights.  I do like the fact it has a pool room and a 'backyard' area.  It does have some charm; scratched machine, working vintage cigarette machine, juke box, ms. Pacman arcade, darts.  Cool spot to check out with younger crowds on the weekends but not my favorite bar.

This place was remodled about a year ago and it still has this nasty porta potty which never gets cleaned in the back..Just  shows what kind of people run or work this place. Have some pride in clean up that shit.thats why theres never any hot girls wana stay there..plus the bartenders are some fags!  (u know who u are!) resenty they just fired a bunch of bartenders...there getting food soon? thats what i heard..the new owners shaped this place up alittle ..happy hour drinks $4 pool table...music..not the best place to watch a game...tvs are old and too high!

Reasons why I love my neighborhood bar:

Get here early and snag the best seat in the house, the leather couch. We made ourselves very comfortable and ignored the jealous looks.

An interesting variety of folks. From the super laid back regulars to the over the top black mini dress girls.

Juke box, pool table, darts and Happy Hour 10-11pm - genius!

It's comforting knowing Clooney's can deliver the goods. Also knowing I can crawl home if I need to is a plus.

Great Neighborhood Bar.  Often stop off on the way home for a tall cold one and a game of pool with my buddies.  They offer strong drinks and plenty of beer choices at very reasonable prices...and also a pretty good jukebox.  The bartenders are all fun and attentive.  The young loud crowd jams the place after 9pm and it can get packed, so I enjoy the afternoons/evenings better than the nights.

Check it out...a place where you can be yourself...not like the meat markets at town & carlos club where everyone is trying to impress everyone else.

My favorite bar!  Excellent happy hour until 7 pm.   Play pool for $1.  Pabst on tap.  Only $6.50 for an entire pitcher.  Always a nice mixed crowd of patrons.  Please ignore negative reviews that complain about strong drinks.  That is actually a positive.  And anyone who is wasted after only one strong drink has a problem.  Don't blame the bar.

UPDATE:  The owner fired Cassie, and gave some shifts to a really bad bartender, so I'm lowering my rating.  This new bartender takes TONS of smoke breaks.  She is always leaving the bar unattended, then returns reeking of tobacco.  Sometimes she leaves the other bartender behind the bar to do all the work, while she does whatever.

Came in last night with the girls and 1 boy. Had a great time. Sean the bartender is a complete doll! I liked the room for pool but disliked the fact that there is no where to sit. Also juke box only blows.

Been here a few too many times Cassandra the bartender is cool tip her well, prices for drinks are good the crowd sometimes is just ehhhh.San Carlos locals that never moved on in life i guess its all right when its not too crowded management should remove that Porta-Potie fuckin nasty...Sometimes on a dry nite will hit Clooney's but there's no real attraction, hot girls come threw but stuck up biatch's "they're 6's in LA but think they're 10's".... Expectations this bar pretty low......Hey owner why did u fire Cassandra? She has the most personality & the best bartender in San Carlos, u made a very stupid move.

Overall good/relaxed vibe. Good place to meet up with friends to grab some drink without doing to much. Does get pretty loud but that's ok because it's still a good time. Has some chairs and tables out in the patio area, just be ready to inhale lots of smoke because its not that spacious...but, definitely will be back.

Clooney's is a good place to hang out when it's not crowded.  When it's busy, good luck getting a drink (or your credit card back!  I waited 20 minutes just to pay the damn bill).  Some bartenders are good though it seems a majority serve their friends and give them drinks for free over paying customers.  Several times the bartenders didn't even keep track of my  tab and then asked me what I ordered...which is not MY job!   There's only ONE bathroom (one toilet) and a lot of girls go in there all at the same time so you should get in line before you even have to go.  It is also very loud and the pool table is always in use by the same people.

This bar is everything I want it to be when I'm down home.

Reunion bar w/ HS friends? check.
    Cheap drinks? check.
    Sweet bartenders? check.
    Close to home? check.

Minus 1 star for being SO FREAKIN LOUD
Minus another for me not having a voice for 2 whole days after spending just 1 hour in here reuniting w/ said old friend from HS.

I came here once, just an hour before I had to go to SFO and fly back to my mediocre life here in Mission Viejo.  If you're a fan of PBR, you'll enjoy the fact that they offer pitchers at  a cheap price ($6.50).

You know, this place isn't too bad.  I've been here twice now, and it neither wowed me nor disgusted me.  I had fun playing darts while the boys played pool, and they serve blue moon which is one of my favorite beers, so that made it better.  The bartenders were both friendly, but it kinda felt like a place for local regulars and not much for visitors.  Although, it is San Carlos--- don't get too many out-of-towners there!  I struggle to find anything to rave about with Clooney's, but there also isn't much to hate.  It would never be my first choice for a bar to go to, but it isn't bad!

I had fun. Some guy was buying drinks for everyone! I had 2 Gin and Tonics for free. Played pool with some cool folks. Of course there were a few snobby bitches... but most people were chill. And the bartender reminded me of a 25 y/o Buddy Holly. I went on a Thursday and closed it down. Finished off the night at my hotel with two people from the bar

A good watering hole for any night of the week.  A good selection of draught and plenty of other liquors to keep one busy for a good period of drinking.  And then there are the distractions, the crowd is a mixed bag of young San Carlos drinkers, hipsters, hardlined oldies and tats.  Ah, games too.  Pool in the back, a dartboard or two to keep you busy and some nice cushy tables and chairs to relax and play a game of cards or pigs.  Does the job nicely for the neighbourhood joint.

Clooney's gets 4 stars from me for the fact that they have Smithwick's on tap.  Other than that... just a normal, neighborhood bar.  Very young crowd.  Punk and hard rock tunes in the jukebox (ok, that was another reason for 4 stars from me).   Got very busy/crowded later towards the night.

Very clean restroom, yes, but they have only one for the boys and girls (unisex).  So thank God they had the porty-a-potty out on the patio.  Which, by the way, was *the* nicest smelling one I've ever been in.

Only 1 pool table ($1.00 per game), couple of dartboards.

So right when you walk in there's the bar on the right hand side (my bad Rommel H. your right it's on the left side). Perfect, you get your drink then you can play a game of pool, sit or go outside and smoke a cig. It's pretty small when it gets crowded but it's manageable. The employees there are nice to talk to.

Oh one more thing there's a porta potty outside on the patio... anybody think that's weird except me?

Only place I know of that has a good dartboard.  They should try to stock up on the darts though.  Last time I went, they did not have any.

They know how to pour a Guinness, which makes this place awesome without the dartboards.  There seems to be many punk music lovers, mostly the bartenders I believe so the music is pretty good.  The bartenders are great - Sean and James.

The only complaint I have is the bathroom.  On the weekend, it is nasty.  That is the case with most bars though but it would still be nice to see an improvement.

I changed my mind... only because of JAMES, the greatest/nicest/best/cutest bartender in the universe. Go on Thursday and Sunday nights to meet him. James makes Clooney's better than it is when it's not good, i.e. bad, which is the best.

    Hahaha.

Two complaints cost them two star - the place needs more seating, and the music was WAY too fucking loud. Like, live-band-ringing-ears-when-you-leave loud. And there's no fade out between songs, which is embarrassing when you're shouting to your friend and the music cuts out mid sentence. Especially if you're talking about porn.

We have only been here once...

It is a local neighborhood bar that was remodeled.. It is pretty small...

They have some tvs... a place to sit down...

I wasn't that impressed nor was I put off...

The drinks were fair priced... The service was fine..

I think if I enjoyed myself the next time I go, I could end up giving it 4 stars...

    It is what it is....

A decent neighborhood bar that I go to occasionally with the lads when we're in the mood for a pint or two away from wife and kiddies.  The place used to be a total dive, but was remodeled a few years back and now looks really nice inside, including a new bar.  The bartenders here do a great job.

The crowd here is not as yuppy as some of the more popular spots in San Carlos and for me that makes it more interesting.  When we go (maybe once every few months) it's typically on a Friday night, which tends to be dominated by  a younger, twenty-something crowd from the local apartments, rounded out by a mix of blue collar types, oldsters, suburbanites (like me I guess), with a pinch of odd characters for flavor.

The jukebox is decent: mostly classic rock, but with some blues, reggae, Frank Sinatra, even Irish folk music.

The one thing I don't like about this place is the single unisex bathroom. It just isn't enough when the place gets packed, like it does on occasion.

Bless their hearts, they do serve Guiness and they do it right. It's usually the first word I say after I walk in the door.

The crowd here is very different depending on the day and time you go. The earlier you are, the older the crowd. There have been a couple of times when I've gone in and you'd have thought that the old folks home was having a field trip. Other times (Friday nights), the crowd is much younger (barely drinking age) and hipper and louder.

The drinks are reasonably priced, pretty strong and the service is usually really good. Love playing pool and darts in the back room and the juke box is pretty decent.

The only real negative is that they don't serve any food. The last time I was there they had a rack with bags of chips for sale, but that's it. No peanuts, pretzels, etc. The good news is that they don't mind if you bring food in. I've seen people get pizza delivered, or bring in Chinese take out from down the street.

You know the song "It's 5 o'clock somewhere"?  Well, it was 5 o'clock today when I was in San Carlos and I decided I needed a beer after a long, long, long week.  I stumbled across Clooney's, and it looked cool enough, so I decided to take my respite from the world there tonight.

Walked in and I was visibly younger than the rest of the crowd (the party didn't really hit til around 6 anyways).  Grabbed a spot at the bar and got a Guinness.  $5.25 for a pint, not too bad.  Was hoping they'd have Newcastle, but hey, a change of pace is needed at times.

Anyways, I was amazed with the bartender - not because she was smoking hot, but because she *actually* knows how to pour a Guinness!  She filled half the glass, let it sit, filled it almost to the top, let it sit, and topped it off  - Guinness is supposed to settle before drinking, with a nice frothy head.  This was perfect.  Yeah it took me 5 minutes or so to get my beer, but so what?

As I was leaving, I decided to make a trip to the back of the joint to scope it out and also find the bathroom, so I can make a proper assessment for Yelp! purposes.  They've got a pretty cool game room, with a nice pool table and i think (?) a dart board.  A back patio is a nice touch for smokers, and  on my way out to scope it out an older (much older) lady noticed my 49ers sweatshirt.  She proceeded to engage me in conversation and insisted on ending it with a high 5, an elbow knock and a pound.  She was sloshed.  it was amazing.

The only real negative about this place (it was really clean, btw) is that the bathroom door doesnt lock.  I went to open the door, and it felt like the handle was jammed, so i pulled up...and the door flew open with a guy standing at the toilet taking a leak.  Not a scene that I haven't seen before, but it was kind of awkward, so I closed the door and sauntered to the back to wait for him to leave.  When I went in there I made sure to bolt the door.

Clean place, nice feeling, educated bartender.  Definitely a neighborhoody feel.  I'm down with it.

This place has really changed.  If you have not been to Clooney's in a while then you will see major renovations.

Back in 2004,  I bought a place in San Carlos and  my best friend and I decided to see what San Carlos had in regards to a nightlife.  The Answer: Not Much.

We strolled into the pub, and we were impressed with the service, but the place definitely looked like a dive.

Fast forward to 2007, my best friend has moved to the Peninsula, and we needed to find a good place to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

We stumbled into Clooney's and we completely floored with the new renovations.  The bar has a whole new store front, and all the fixtures and furnishings were upgraded.

In comparison to other bars in San Carlos, I felt comfortable bringing my fiancee with out the typical belligerent oglers.

Well Clooney's has a great ambiance and friendly crowd.

It is disappointing that there is no food, since most of the good restaurants in San Carlos are 4 blocks north on Laurel.  I do have to give them credit for upping the ante, and setting a precedent for local establishments in the area.

The security staff was also very cordial and professional.  I really liked the point that the security staff chipped in, and was helping to clear the tables.  It is apparent that they have a strong cohesive team that are very customer focused.

The bartender did make sure that each Guinness  was well poured, despite the onslaught of all the St' Patrick's revelers.  Despite the point that there is no food, I would still give Clooney's 4 stars since it has really evolved.  If other establishments in the area follow their lead, then San Carlos 's nightlife will be getting a much needed upgrade.

Apparently there is also one in SF, but I've not gone, which I've heard is a dive. This one is pretty nice and new and well, with Irish pubs, it's got Guinness which gives it an auto 3 stars. However they don't have their own food, which they get from other establishments in the area ( I was hoping for some pub food too). It's also in a semi residential neighborhood near a lot of  the Chinese restaurants in the area, which we've  dubbed Chinatown San Carlos. I figure if I lived here I'd definitely be a local and could just stumble home from copious amount of the "Stout".
