I am gay and have frequented 1220 here and there in the past and I am an acquaintance of Michael the DJ.  I know that they have a karoake night on Wednesdays.  Being an avid singer, I decided to go sing.  I got there close to 9 p.m. and found out the karaoke doesn't start till 10 p.m. so I decided to have the drink and the bartender (forgot his name)  was real friendly and made me a nice strong drink.  I sat at the bar and was having a great conversation with a guy sitting there.  But a little later, on returning from the bathroom, a young straight couple were standing at the bar in front of my chair, they appeared to be ordering drinks. When I approached them they seemed friendly and we briefly chatted and I mentioned I was sitting there and asked them if they were waiting for their drinks and they replied yes.  I waited patiently until their shots arrived and then they kept standing there and I asked them again to please move which they finally did.  Meanwhile, I put my name in to sing and Dave the KJ was very professional and friendly and took care of me.  On returning from singing my second song back to my seat, the same young straight couple were again standing in front of my chair.  When I approached the girl rudely said to me, "Oh you again!"  And I said I would like to sit down which they then left for the dance floor looking back at me and motioning rude gestures at me.   I soon left the bar disgusted.

I love everyone but this couple was so rude showing no respect for me.  They make straights look bad.  If they are going to act like this, they should stay in straight bars.  Makes me not want to venture back into 1220 where I should feel at home, safe, and respected.

I saw great potential in this place, but that's the keyword: Potential. Cool decor (love the giant sofa!) and a nice mix of both gay and straight.  There were two bartenders; girl and a guy.  Guy made drinks so weak I wondered if there was any alcohol in them.  Girl made them STRONG, like CRAZY strong.  (That's what I'm talkin' about!) So, I definitely recommend having this chick mix your drinks if you go.  (I'm sorry I didn't catch her name!)

As for the minuses,  I'm not sure if we just caught this place on an off-night, but it was very empty for a Saturday.  Everyone just looked sad sitting at the bar alone and playing with their i-phones.  I saw very few couples and/or groups of friends.  NO ONE was on the dance floor and I mean NO ONE.  The DJ was playing salsa almost exclusively, so maybe that was it?   Really cool gourmet pupusa stand that sets up outside around 9:00.  The best part is they let you bring food into the bar, I really appreciate that.

THE BEST GAY BAR IN WALNUT CREEK.  Well, ok, the ONLY gay bar in Walnut Creek I have found, but they live up to the reputation of gay bars, weird things happen, awkward moments always come from drunk people making passes, conversations get wild, and drinks are strong enough to drop even the most alcoholic person ever.  Mondays have free pool, which is fun.  They also do karaoke some nights, dancing, etc.  If you want to dance, watch Ru Paul's drag race, have a smoking area where you can drink, or generally just love gay bars, it is the place to go.  Also, and this might just be me, the cover on weekends does not seem all that strict.  It seems likely they would rather just get the business if you seem like you are going to walk away from a cover.  Also, Holatta (I hope she still works there, I haven't been on a Monday in a little bit) is amazing! Her fruit loop drinks are killer, and she is hilarious!

We decided to try a new place last night (Saturday Feb 16th) and so we made the trek over to Club 1220.

The guy at the door was really nice - funny to be carded - and the crowd was an interesting, friendly mix of orientations, ages, shapes, and colors... maybe because there aren't a lot of competing options in close driving distance.  4 stars for that.  (My sweetie and I are straight but we patronize a wide variety of venues - including Swing Out! at Lake Merritt Dance Center in Oakland on 2nd Fridays and the Sundance Saloon at the Beatbox in San Francisco on 3rd Saturdays - to satisfy our dancing urges.)

The restrooms are kind of awkwardly located behind the pool table - though the shooters were really nice about letting us through.  I used the women's restroom at about 10pm (i.e. early in the evening) and it was already looking a little bedraggled.  Parking (in the lot behind Club 1220) was easy.  We didn't try the drinks.  Too many TV screens for the easily visually distracted (me).  Temperature was fine.  The music (DJ'd) was a mixed bag dance-wise; after an hour and a half it got a bit monotonous - fast, square-beat thump.  It was fairly loud but not more than the nightclub norm (i.e. it's fine if you're wearing earplugs).  The dance floor was painted cement with rough spots where there used to be a wall - okay if you're wearing sneaks and twisting, writhing, or posing in place but hell on the knees if you're trying to partner dance (e.g. West Coast Swing or hustle); we scraped quite a bit of black paint gunk off our (hardsoled dance) shoes in the parking lot after dancing.  On the plus side there was enough room to dance (at least while we were there; the floor may have gotten more crowded after midnight) - though one or two of the guys pinballing around the floor made the space a lot smaller.

Big yay for no fake smoke - can't dance when breathing that stuff - but a very big boo for the real smoke wafting through the place thanks to the smokers puffing away just outside the back door.  This was the dealbreaker for us; if you're going to have the smokers right outside (isn't that illegal?), then for goodness sakes set up a fan to blow the smoke away from the building!

1220 has changed and it's refreshing. See for yourself, truth is stranger (and more true) than fiction.

People change. They break up and they get back together. It's all about how you feel when you are around them. Businesses change and it's just our luck. Keep doing what you are doing now 1220, because we need more dance and music, more open-mindedness, more gay bars, and definitely more open-mindedness. Did I mention open-mindedness? A place where you can be whoever you are and have a great night?

The new lighting and glass entrance is nice. What's more important is that the people working there are lovebugs. Yes, that's what we want: friendly and cute, and damn you have that covered!

As luck would have it, we were greeted by Zak and served by Ric. It simply doesn't get any better than this. They rock for going out of their way to let our posse know we were appreciated. Good energy will be returned many times over.

True story: I danced til at least one of my knees hurt with many good friends, enjoyed the excellent mixologists, hugged 5 amazing people, and observed the diverse crowd at 1220 having a blast. No attitude or strange energy. Playful people, convenient, better service than ever before... and we all lived happily ever after in the burbs.

    Love,
    Your loyal girlfriend djdf

Sweeeet a gay bar in WC. I came here with this super hot gay guy because we thought if we went to a straight bar everyone thought we were a couple. I'd been meaning to check it out. I was kind of surprised that they charged a $6 cover because I feel like we went on a Sunday night or something... (I'll update this later with the actual day we went) but the drinks were good and not too expensive.

My friend and I were sitting on these couches talking and all of a sudden we we heard loud slapping sounds! I was like "Someones getting spanked!!!!" We ran around to the dance floor type are and there was a guy with his shirt off, jeans pulled down with his butt out (veryyyyy nice butt btw). Each arm was tied and being restrained by a guy on each side of him and another guy with a tassel whip thing just going to town on this guys butt. BDSM showcase YAYYYYY totally worth the $6. Thank you. So good to find a place like this is in the washed up frat boy community that is Downtown Walnut Creek.

Where the hell was yelp at when I went to this place? Back when my brother lived in the burbs, we would go to this place often because SF was sooooo far away. Let me start off by saying that it would always take forever for me to get a drink at this place. Was it because I looked so young, because I was brown, because I look like a bitch? Maybe all three?  Secondly, there was an inicident in which my friend and I were the only ones carded in the place and were given wristbands. We were also the only Black people there at the time. I haven't been to this place in about a year and I definitely have no reason to go back.

The Good: It's a local bar and the only gay bar in Walnut Creek.

The Bad: It's small and a bit cliquey. The sound system is old so they crank it up so you have to yell over the music if you want to talk. They charge $8 cover.

The Ugly: None, it is what it is (e.g. it's not SF folks so don't expect much).

Thank God the management has decided to decorate the inside and it actually rocks. Love the Hawaiian theme, nice and kitschy kind of like the bar itself.

Advice on how to generate more revenue: Build a 2nd floor deck. I would go to this bar after work on Fridays, or Saturday / Sunday afternoons if they had a deck with music and maybe some light food (they could even use the sushi restaurant next door). Walnut Creek has some great afternoon weather that would be ripe for hanging out on a rooftop deck, tossing a few back and then going downstairs to bust a move to some 70s classic rock or 80s dance tunes.

Come on owners, you're the only place for gays to go to out here, spend some money to make mo money mo money mo money.

Wow!  Wow and damn. Visiting from NYC,  I went to 1220 Saturday night (I think is called "One Love") and it was spot on. I could not keep up with the drink specials and the great sound. Whoever thought a club in the 'burbs would be so much fun?
I have found my club home away from home.

OMG this place stinks!  I tried it numerous times and every time I walked out thinking if only I had the energy to go to Oakland or SF!  It's like a joke really of what a gay bar should be - but it's not funny - more pathetic than anything -and you can avoid the cover by slipping through the back door where the smoking patio is located.

    was fun.

Friday night.  Played pool early.  Came back for the dancing.  No cover if you get there before 9pm.  Small place but nice dance floor, good music and clean bathroom!

The crowd is very gay.  Lots of gay guys, a few lesbians, a lot of straight girls dancing and some straight guys hitting on those straight girls.

OMGhey! What IS this place??? Call me a snob ALL you want but this place is CRAPOLA! Seriously, you're set-up behind a 7-11 in a space that looks like it's an old 70's business park! You're inundated with mounds of Lesbians that would scare my Ex-Con family members (don't ask!) and there was not one ounce of cuteness ANYWHERE in here. Then the bartenders moved slower than a snail stuck in quicksand! And on top of that on a Fri or Sat night you choose to have not so good looking bartenders??? I mean, bar 101 have HOT bartenders, period! They bring in the crowd! Then there's the issue with the music, according to their website for that night it was some DJ spinning Hip-Hop/RnB so I thought at minimum I was gonna enjoy the music. Well, if that DJ wasn't some 50 something looking white guy that was playing, I mean, spinning his iPod with tracks that were 5 and even 10 years old!
Oh and 1220, DO NOT charge a cover charge for that, EVER!

Sorry you East Bay folks, I know this is the only gay bar out here, but may Gay Party Gods help you and help you FAST!

WUUUU HUUUUU yay for the single gay bar in WC! It was my girls' bday and the bartender gave her a free bday drink! SCORE. Then we had to suddenly leave to meet up with friends and he was nice enough to give us bracelets to come back in for no cover! SCORE again! When we came back we got our dance on! No line ever for the restroom! The men were so nice to my gf and l! I'm coming back again and again for awesome drinks (inexpensive for wc) and crazy dance time!

1220 for me is alright. The venue needs a little renovation.  The sound system can be better.  I thought 6 dollars cover charge (on a Friday) was a little indulgent but I have to support the "only" gay club in this area.  I'm a local yet I feel like I'm in Sacramento when I hang out here.  Maybe it's the crowd?  There's a smoking patio, pool table, lounge area and plenty of parking.

Love this place! The staff is lovely & the location is better than heading to the city. Some nights are hit & miss but always check out the drag shows, they're packed!

I'm giving 1220 3 stars, because they appear to be open to hosting local talent and events.  I visited for the first time last Saturday for a Bay Area Bandits football team fundraiser, and had a really cool time.  The drinks were tasty and inexpensive, and the crowd was friendly.

The music, on the other hand, was...off, so don't go expecting to hear your most favorite in the whole wide world dance tunes.  You are better off knowing that Michael Jackson will be mixed in with Journey and probably some other country group or singer.

I also dig the pool table and mirrors throughout (yeah, I can play, and yeah, I can be vain!).

Will I return?  Maybe, if I'm in the area (which I probably never will be) or if they're hosting another event.

I can't help but love this place. I grew up in concord and years ago when I was a baby stylist (as in new to the industry) in WC I came here with all my co-workers. Before I was out I would dance my little heart out every saturday night (I even ran into my Best friends aunt on square dancing night). Well this summer I took my girlfriend to the japanese festival in concord and on the way back decided to step in for a drink. Ummm timewarp!!! It was like I was 21 again, it looked exactly the same. It is a little of a mature crowd and 99% men but we had a great time. We look forward to bringing back my girlfriends father and his partner. Cheers to 1220!

This place was super fun. (Attended on 1/14/10)  I felt it was a great mix of people.  Very chill and open minded.  There is pool, dancing, and good times.

Dave Gwynn (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myspace.com%2Fnakeddj&s=ee4d1967850efe29e8b354780707515c65d567efa177f6cfa9096131a94fac91" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.myspace.com/n…</a>) was playing that night and I had to get his card because he was one of the most fun DJ's I've heard in a while.  Well mixed with great transitions.  Everything from rock, pop, and hip-hop.

I preformed with the Hollywood Jane Revue and it was a pleasure to perform here with the supportive audience and chill staff.

Feeling safe is always a big concern for me a clubs/bars of any kind late at night and this one did a great job of making me feel at home.

The good: A local place where you really feel like you can be yourself (and possibly, dare I say, feel better about yourself).

    The bad:
-too many hags trying to give you hugs and wanting to be your new BFF, that's of course after asking if you're straight.
    -expensive watered-down drinks
    -ridiculous cover (some nights)
-the music (though it can be good at times, this is really more of a toss-up)
-lack of eye-candy both in the patrons and staff

    All in all:
The only reason I wouldn't travel the extra half mile to BART and ride into SF (or brave the douche-baggery of the downtown places) would be that this place is sometimes a little too convenient, and I don't feel like I have to do much to myself before leaving the house.

Give it a try and make your own opinion, just lower your expectations a little first.

First visit to 1220 was on Halloween. We got there super late becuase some friends had to work. We were happy to find it packed when we arrived right before 1am. It took a minute to get a drink. After we got one and explored we heard "last call!". We were in shock! It's Halloween! The time rolls back tonight! We had to hussle to the bar for another drink. We weren't happy that the whole club was kicked out at 2am. We could have got our grove on for awhile! Anywho, we may try it again.

Ok, sooooo 3 stars is rather generous.  What sets 1220 apart?  One word: friendly. From the bartenders, to gays of varying degrees and straights who simply find it conveniently located behind a 7-11 (boy howdy, is right!)...After moving from Oakland and other more diverse parts of the bay, the Walnut Creek bar scene is kinda obvious (i.e thick in the neck, small in the pants, bland and not particularly "inclusive"). Many have 1220 pegged as a gay bar. Ok, perhaps that's mostly true, but it's also a safe place for anyone to get their drink on. That's what the 3rd star is for folks. Appreciate that. Appreciate a place where all you eh-hem Crogan's "rejects"  can dance to radio beats, have a smoke, and maybe even make friends with the oddball next to you.

Sure they charge a small cover on certain eves,  some cocktails are overpriced and the joint is frequented by a topless guy who dances only for himself...the large mirrors are great for one's vanity and the bathrooms are clean, stocked even. So get off the couch, pull up your sweats and round up your "funnest" peeps - 1220 welcomes you as you are.

    Club 1220 (or just 1220)

Okay... so, I am originally from MODESTO (thank you very much Michael M. of San Leandro!) but live in Martinez. I have made the trek out to SF too many times to even count in the four years I have lived in the East Bay. Each time I have gone to SF it has been crowded, sweaty and completely trashy. The bathrooms are always gross, drinks watered down and the boys too bitchy and self-important for their own good.  That being said, Club 1220 is the EXACT OPPOSITE.

This is a good thing in this case. Even when it is packed out (which I have seen on more than one occasion now) it is still manageable and you can still have a good time; I ALWAYS have a good time there. Packed out or sparsely occupied this is a great little hang out.

The bathrooms are ALWAYS clean and well-stocked, drinks strong and bartenders/staff are killer-nice/awesome. Mark is cute with a great smile, Eric is mucho en fuego (DAMN!) and the girls... ehhh... Then there is Dean- the bartender/manager. He seems to have a stick up his ass and thinks he's something hot/special and needs to calm his ass down AND not charge more on my CC to get a bigger tip than the 35% I left him in cash- asshole. (UGH)

    MOVING ON...

Being a Professional, Wedding/Corporate Party/High School Dance DJ of 9 years one could say I know a little about music. The music here is fantastic. (Except country night... but that's just a personal opinion... it should be DISCO NIGHT!!! :-P) But I digress... The music is awesome and always running. They don't have those moments where it just doesn't mix right and open air... they ALWAYS take requests and the quality is pretty damn great for a little bar.

The décor as of late is a little 'interesting' (palm tree scheme from a private luau-themed party three weeks ago) as well as the general decor they've had for the last four or so years that I have been going there. I think they should update it.

OVERALL- if you are tired of SF, don't want to drive far, like good drinks and a good atmosphere do what I do... head to Club 1220 in Walnut Creek. I'll be the quiet/stoic one tapping his toes up at the bar whilst sipping his Stoli-Raspberry and Collins. ;-)

What the hell are people bitching about? I went to Club 1220 last night and had a great time! The bartenders were friendly, I got tipsy, the restroom was clean....what the hell else do you want?

By the way, I'm producing a stand-up comedy show there on July 26th.  If you don't come out and see it, you're gay!!!

After seeing a movie in the East Bay, me and a group of friends decided to take the plunge and see how clubs were on the other side of the world (Walnut Creek)

It's Cheers meets Cher meets a hole in the wall (no.. not that kind of
hole in the wall.. although maybe they have them)

Definitely a step up from its East Bay cousin the White Horse [insert hyperbolic analogy here]... they have strong drinks... and even stronger women
(no joke, the one with a tattoo on her neck could probably bench press
    an entire garage tool set)

Every one was fairly nice and cordial... the music was alright, but it
seemed like every other song was by Britney Spears

This isn't a place I'd go out of my way to visit... but if you're stuck in that barren social tundra known as the suburbs... perhaps it'd be worthwhile to stop by and take a dip

The Eastbay Gay bars really seem to be lacking these days. Between this and White Horse, the places both seem to be empty most of the time and when there are people there, it is few and far between. Where do all the Gay men go if they want a drink? Do they just stay home and have parties at their homes?
Trouble with this place, everytime we try it seems to be Country Western Night?
My opinion is they could really bring the crowds out if they varied from this.

I would like for the owners to update the place, play some non country music and get some young people in there.

Hmmm, I have no idea what to think of this place.  Went for Happy Hour on a Friday night and my husband and we were by far, the youngest and hottest (there I go again tooting my own horn).  I mean seriously, if you added our ages together the sum would be a good ten years younger than any of the other patrons....and I ain't no spring chicken these days either.  Not to mention that the news was on when we got there.  What the?

As the night progressed, the crowd did get a little younger and eventually the 7pm news was replaced with the radio (no joke).  The husband said it was supposed to be "Hip Hop" night.  Finally 9pm rolled around and a DJ arrived apparently because it turned more cluby and it started to fill up.  Chatted with some of the other patrons.

Bar tender managed to completely jack up my tab from 12 bucks to 46 but fixed it once I pointed out the error.  I mean what were the chances of two people named Michael with a platinum check card from WFB being at the same bar?  Kinda random.

I'll definitely go back for a drink and to socialize sometime.

We enjoyed this club on a Tuesday night for Country-Western dancing. Ron Points did a great job teaching a line dance and a simple two-step move. The dance floor is small but the dancers moved well around it. They serve pitchers of beer, which is always a plus in my opinion (and hard to find in the Bay Area). I would definitely go again on a C & W night (every Tuesday and alternate Saturday nights until midnight).
There was no cover charge and a pitcher of Hefewiezen was $17.

So after another awesome night (this time with the girls) I am still very much for 1220.

Especially since this is the new cover charge chart for the bars in downtown WC as of 12/20/08.

    Dan's: 5.00
    Crogans after ten: 5.00
    Spin: 10+ depending on night
Vice (Used to be Bettys/ Liquid/ McKearnys): Haven't been but check back
Mr. Luckys: No cover but very small bar

So sure, they charge 5-6 dollars. But twice now I've gone and had an awesome time which is more than I can say for all the bars besides Dan's. The music is just bad enough where I laugh when the new song comes up, but good enough that I know the words. The drink of choice that night was the B.J. and it was darn good.

I'll continue coming back because while it may not be the best bar in WC, (yes we love you Spoon) to me, it's the most fun.

I couldn't decide between 1 star or 5 stars... I mean, is it just bad or is it so bad that it's amazing?!

Stephen and I were at the Elephant Bar (believe it or not, they do have a couple vegan dishes) and were deciding what to do next.  Suddenly it occurred to me..... I'd heard there was a gay bar in walnut creek, but had never been... this was my night.

    well.

    what can I say?

The first two songs that were played by the dj (who we later learned was from energy 92.7, go fig) were "just a little love" from sister act and "rhythm is a dancer" which is a song that my sister danced to (and I merely dreamed of dancing to) when I was in the 2nd grade.

They have flat screen tv's!!!!!!!!!! exciting, right?  not so much... they had one of those weird computer programs that makes 3d images move "to the movement"....... the kind of thing I used to be totally "into".. when I used to be totally into "ecstacy".

what can only be described as a "regular" was handing out beads for someone named pj's birthday.... they were fake "pearl necklaces" with medallions which read "celebrating 30 years of steamworks"... for those of you who don't know, steamworks is a gay bath house in (i think) the berkeley area (not quite sure, I've never been there).

After maybe half hour, the music got a little better, and we decided to leave on a good note... beyonce.....  even though I got "crazy in love" when I was hoping for "ring the alarm"

Obviously, I realized that this place is just bad..... but that doesn't mean I won't be back.

so...you're either going spend 12 minutes here.
    or 20.

jeez....i've been to some gay bars in other remote areas...and those still sit on the face of this one.  for example: savannah, georgia.  the one and only gay bar i went to there at least had 2 for 1 happy hour and some southern gentlemen.

but this one.....has absolutely nothing....except for a smoking patio and one pool table.

    definitely a sad establishment.

the queers of the east bay need to come together and create something so much better so that we don't have to travel all the way to the city to enjoy a hot drink. or twink. whichever. ;-)

I went into 1220 with a friend....  We missed the Drag Show  (AKA Boys in ugly dresses, lipsynching badly, looking like clowns. )  so we did not have to pay the $5.00 cover charge.  Let me tell you that a real drag queen does not need a portion of the door as they are bringin in the people and the tips should be more than enough.  NO ONE SHOULD EVER PAY A COVER TO GET INTO ANY BAR GAY OR STR8.  I can understand a night club but not this place.  Now on to the WAY OVER PRICED DRINKS $4.25 for a domestic beer and $5.00 for a well cocktail  I work in fine dining and that is HIGH for dom and well.  Being a Bar manager myself I have always followed a tipping rule. 1$ for a cocktail 1$ for a beer and if the bartender is good maybe more.  You should never need to ask for to leave a tip.  So when I gave the bartender a 20 and he gave me change of a 10$ bill and and 3 quarters.  Well I am sure he was not happy with his tip.  What added insult to injury or maybe he was just RETARDED  he did it AGAIN!

Anyway I have been to MANY bars in the East Bay, SF, Sacramento,  and pretty much all over the world.  This one is pretty sad.  Over priced drinks bad drag, and I am sure they have Karoke atleast one night a week.

    My opinion SKIP IT!!!!

12:20. I think that's how long I lasted in this place. Well, however long it took me to drink my one Ketel/Cranberry This place made me sad...really sad. It reminded me of the bars near my shitty ass closeted hometown. You know the kind, where the Gays haven't discovered Diesel jeans yet. And they still play Usher from 2004...when it's 2008. And Boys Gone Wild is on the tv screens, but they edit it so no real peen is showing...which ends up being a bunch of frat boys with backwards baseball hats screaming "BOYS GONE WILD!!!" but the sound is down so you can just read their lips. You also pay $5 to get into this place. Two stars for the hot bartenders. Everything else? They can keep. And I want my $5 back. If anything I expect a check in the mail for making an appearance...

The bartenders are very nice. Country Night, every other Saturday, is a lot of fun to watch, especially when it transitions to "hip hop" at midnight, which really equates to playing top-40 music. DJ does take requests, including Khia - My Neck, My Back.

I would certainly patronize this business again.

Ok, I'm not gay but this was the closest full bar to where I lived.  When I was dating my husband this was a very safe and fun place to have a drink when I was by myself.  I found this place is like Cheers, where everyone knows your name..  I've since got married and moved across town, but still have fond memories of karaoke night.

Oh, the funny thing, I almost forgot.  My boyfriend at the time, now my husband, and I were invited for a birthday party here.  We walked around the building like three times.  We went to 7-11 and could hear the music, but couldn't find a front door.  We actually thought it was in 7-11 somewhere!  Finally, we saw our friend, and we were led to the utility closet door on the outside of the building where, like a magical tiny tent in a far away desert, it opened up into a jamming fun party.

Why do I find myself at gay bars all the time?

Because gay men have nestled me under their glittery, little wings. I end up at this place for two reasons:

    a) It's the only one in Walnut Creek
    b) I'm too tired/lazy to drive to SF

This place would die in SF. All the SF clubs/bars would attack this place if it were walking alone in an alley and run off laughing. MMhm. But it's convenient, it's there and I've come here maybe 5 times in my life. The dance floor looks like something in a retirement home. The DJ plays Top 40 songs that are starting to get too annoying on the radio. It's small, and the crowd is a bit....interesting. This is a place for more of an older crowd too, I've found. Did I mention it's attached to a 711?

All in all, I just have to laugh because while I'm hearing an old Britney Remix, I'm watching the fishing channel on the big screens!

    Um, sexy?

I mean, I like fish, but not while some old guy is yanking it out of the ocean with Kylie Minogue playing in the background...jeez, I'll go to SF.

There's nothing else to compare this place too, since it's the only gay bar in the area, there's no competition.  The club is small, the crowd is laid back.  The drag shows on Sunday nights are okay.  The cover charge is cheap but the drinks are way overpriced.  $20 for 2 Grey Goose Martini's.  Come on!! They think they can get away with overcharging for drinks because there are no other gay bars in the area.  How ridiculous! You're better off going out to Berkeley or SF.

1220 is a pretty damn cool place. I've been twice, and both times I quite enjoyed myself. I went on Friday and Saturday nights, and the crowd was both diverse and fun. Dean, one of the bartenders, makes a terrific (and strong!) manhattan. The vibe is very friendly, and both times I had no problem mingling, and met some really cool people.

On Fridays and Saturdays the music is the usual fare when it comes to hip-hop and house, mostly top current hits and standards. I'm more of an indie/dance-rock kinda person, but the beats are still nice to bounce to. $5 and $6 dollar cover charge.

Check the schedule. Every other Saturday night is Country night... and you gotta know the steps to get on the dance floor... if you don't, then you gotta wait till midnight or so to boogie.

It's a gay bar.  It's in Walnut Creek.

1220 is small, with an outdoor smoking patio.  Since it's the only gay bar for some distance, the crowd is pretty diverse.  It's a fun place to go with your friends or significant other to dance and have a few drinks.

They have themed nights, so check out their schedule before you go.  Some people don't like ending up there on Country night.

The only gay bar in WC, so they don't have to please the customer. My partner and I went there last night. He works in WC and we were meeting some friends out there. Tried to get my Tanqueray and tonic in a larger glass since I don't like my mixed drinks too strong. Not only did the "gentleman" behind the bar refuse to do that despite my offering to pay extra for the extra tonic, when I tried to get an explanation of why, the following interchange occurred:

"If someone sees that, they'll all want a bigger glass.

"Oh, so you just don't have enough of those."

"No, they'll think there's more alcohol in them"

"But there isn't unless they order a double"

"Yes, but they don't know that"

Then one of the drunken patrons told me to shut up and listen to him. He informed me if I wanted a double, I could order a shot extra. He just didn't understand that I didn't want a double, just a single in a glass with more mixer for which I was willing to pay.

I ended up feeling like they were treating me like an obnoxious moron.

Thank god, we live on the other side of the Caldecott!

This is the first place Shatangi's been in CA that reminds me of gay clubs back home. No attitude. Blacks, whites, asians, latinos, young, old, fat, thin, diabled and the the guy with no shirt on dancing with himself in the mirror. They mak a good Tokyo Tea as well. Dated ambiance and music including everything from disco to hiphop.

    Shatangi told you
