Good and funky atmosphere, I had a really good burger, and my wife had an excellent reuben. We wanted cole slaw, but we found out it comes in a jar, not fresh made; so rather than risk disappointment, we both ordered the fries, which were pretty good. The photos here are pretty accurate, it is really crowded, so you might want to be sure the person who doesn't mind a fair amount of body contact with strangers is seated closest to the pathways for waiters and other customers.
While some people seem to think the burgers here are the best, I disagree. they are prepared well, good quality condiments, etc. The beef is better than most restaurant's burgers, but I lower them a notch to the burgers at the Airport Restaurant and Gin Mill in DeLand, about 25 miles inland. Similar atmosphere, except you watch skydivers instead of the beach, and not nearly so crowded.
I really could do without all the sports channel televisions all over the place, tends to distract from conversations. Nut I guess they know their audience, as they seem to be quite successful!
I give it three stars, because of the crowdedness and the teevees, otherwise, would have given it a four. Taste varies according to the reviewer/diner, so feel free to adjust according to your preference.

I would classify this place as a "semi-dive bar" - place was packed on saturday but there was still a few tables open. no hostess (in this place that is probably a plus).

you got to get the corn nugget app - it was great.

we both got burger - blue cheese burger and the NSB burger, they were REALLY GOOD!!

my draft beer came out warm-ish, my next beer - a bottle was cold. only really downside.

right on the beach so you get a nice breeze and view.

I know a beach bar probably shouldn't get 5 stars, but we have never once been disappointed.  We have been to breakers at least 6 times and I swear my wife would go twice a weekend.  The burgers are quality and it is that way every time.  The sweet corn nuggets are great when we want an appetizer and the beer selection has enough variety that you can use that to change it up.  Breakers is a must stop when we hit NSB for the weekend.

Great Burgers for lunch...and the Corn Nuggets

Went last week during vacation. I ordered the Jalapeño Burger which was good, but nothing to be exciting about. I wished there was more substance to it; the jalapeño was there, but I like flavor accompanied with my heat.

What you absolutely MUST order are the Sweet Corn Nuggets. It sounds a little unconventional, but they were AMAZING. If I manage to get back to FL, I'll totally order  it again. They're also small pieces so its not too overwhelming. There's a good amount in the basket too; perfect for one or for sharing.

Great restaurant. Reasonable prices and delicious burgers. Wait staff was professional and service was quick. Best Jalapeño Burger I've ever had! Beach decor with no frills, obvious great location!

ABOLUTELY the BEST BERGER ever had!!!!  Always go there when visiting.  Wonderful beach view...very casual and always the same juicy Berger. Can't comment on other cuisine cause Bergers are the reason you go there. (And beer)

Awesome atmosphere with excellent Pina Coladas (rum topper included!). Get the fish sandwich (mahi) or fish taco salad and you wont be disappointed. You can walk right up from the beach...be prepared to fight for a table as its first come first serve.

Good service...good food. I have no real complaints here. Don't order the chips and salsa. The salsa was more like ketchup with some peppers in it. I'm not going to knock them for it because the bartender told us before we ordered it. We thought we would give it a shot though.

They have tons of different kinds of burgers if that's what you're looking for. The burger was cooked perfectly, messy as hell (a good thing) and more than enough to eat.

If you want something a little healthier then they have some great choices there as well. The plastic cups of beer are a little small for the price but they're not too terrible.

Overall, I will definitely come back here.

I never go to New Smyrna Beach without visiting Breakers.  I dream of Breakers when I am home in Chicago.  Although it is not much to look at, the atmosphere is live and friendly, the seating takes advantage of the ocean view, the drinks are amazing and the staff is always friendly and accommodating.  They actually have amazing burgers and fries (which is all I eat there) and I will continue going to the Breakers as long as it is around - or I am.  I tell everyone who is visiting NSB to check out Breakers.  I love seeing the pink building when I come to town, it evokes memories that go back many years of good times had in NSB.

I love the view! Big old skool swing-out french casement windows overlooking the ocean spread open to hear the teens shotgunning beers below. The old wooden floor covered in sand and sea water from the constant flow of beach goers flopping in right off the beach.  A better than average dive bar on the beach with decent seafood and a couple of semicraft beers on draft. Its my kind of place, I wish I could give it more stars.

This place not only had great food, but a great atmosphere.  I was charmed by the staff and how they were ever vigilant on everything I needed. But most importantly I was impressed by the customers. I sat next to a truly giving person who overheard my friend and I as we were sprawling through both of our wallets looking for cash as we had just discovered it was a "cash only" joint. He just laughed and waived down the waitress and told her to put our bill on his tab. This man truly made my experience here. I just wish more people out there shared his kindness.

We always make time for a trip to visit Breakers whenever we are in Florida.  My favorite menu item is the Blackened Ahi Tuna sandwich, it's always cooked perfectly!
The two other foods we've tried here, burgers and chicken wings, are also amazingly delicious (try the wings with the special sauce! So good!).

It's a great place to visit for lunch or dinner to relax and enjoy the view looking out over New Smyrna Beach.

I love this place, first time here and already this review is going to be really slightly biased.

The waitresses are cool, this place sits right on the edge of earth and heaven. And the food sucks like a hot dog stand. Bur it's just the back ground here, like extra's in a movie. The scenery rules!

The view is breath taking, you better sit down and get a cigaret. Take some mental pictures, put up with the greasy offerings, take in all of nature and ponder about a higher power.

Took 1 star off on account of the food. But I will always have fond memories of this little spot loved by the locals. Thanks the Hyatt in Heathrow crew for this suggestion.

Second thought, heavenly places deserves five stars.

Beach side view while eating a great burger with some cool beer. it doesn't get any better than that. We found ourselves here after our friendly tour guides from East Coast Paddle steered us in this direction.

This place is literally a large shack turned restaurant - but it's pretty cool because we sat facing the open windows where it looks like we're sitting right on the beach because that's what you see when you just stare straight ahead.

A burger here will set you back about $10 and a nice cold brewsky will set you back another $5-6. Not too bad considering the type of view you get.

Service was nice and friendly and I was definitely soaking in the view as much as possible. Nothing more relaxing.

How could anyone not like a restaurant on the beach? Breakers is an institution in NSB.  Our Server (Jen) awesome personality. Service was ok. Food was delish. I order the Mahi sammie blackened... Perfectly cooked and moist. My guests ordered a couple of burgers, one was undercooked but corrected immediately.  Two of our guests dining with us wee at this very restaurant 48 years ago--how cool is that? This seems to be a place where locals mix very well with beach-goers.  I would recommend you not choose a burger; you're at the beach -- come on!

This place is awesome. Great burgers, wide selection of bottle and draft beers. Perfect laid back, causal burger place. Located right on the beach. Hawaiian burger is great!

If you're a snobby prick, you probably won't like Breakers. I like Breakers simply because it is grubby. Apparently you're supposed to come here for the burgers.. but I preferred the fried fish. Fried food..on the beach. Whats not to like?

Right on the beach!  Always a plus.  Great view and the jalapeno burger was pretty hot.

One burger and 4 beers came to $34, though.  So about $6 a beer?  A bit much.  But nice views.  Friendly, quick service and nice and clean.  Did I mention the view?  It's pretty amazing.

New Smyrna beach is awesome. This place makes it easy to eat right next to the beach with a view of the water from one of the bar seats facing the ocean. The burger is great, if not perfectly cooked, the shrimp with key lime salt is just right for a sunny day, and the bustling beach crowd is very festive. Grab a few beers, be patient with the wait, and enjoy the sun and the sand.

Wouldn't usually give this kind of place 4 stars: Loud, crowded and the service was slow. BUT the view was awesome and the burger was pretty good (tho I ordered medium rare and was mid well). Great view of the ocean, good place to watch people on the beach and waves rolling while sipping on your favorite beverage.

Located directly on the beach, Breakers has one of the best views of NSB. While there is no outdoor seating, pull up a chair and sit at the ocean-facing bar with windows opened wide.  This old school dive is clean, friendly, and cozy!

The burgers are amazing. So much flavor, so juicy, and so many to choose from.  Prices are typical for the location. A burger is about $10.00 and a Mai Tai is $6. There is a large bottled and draft beer list.  Breakers also has sandwiches, fried dishes, and some tuna options.

Tons of locals and regulars eat here.  That says it all!

Afterwards, enjoy a walk on the beach or shopping for beach gear.

Always enjoy visiting the Breakers and having a drink and a bite to eat.  The burgers are the best in town - hand made with fresh meat and char-grilled.  The wings are really tasty as well.  They have a great steak sandwich too.  Have been going here for a long time and always have enjoyed it!  Not to mention the view is spectacular being right on the beach.

After reading the warning on the menu for thier chicken wings, I was looking forward to trying it. I am always on a never ending quest for some nice hot wings..
These fit the bill nicely. Getting the numb mouth and fingers tingling after the first one. I wasn't able to finish the full order.. and thats what I look for in a hot wing.. hot enough to have leftovers :) and then they get even hotter.
So if you enjoy hot wings.. do yourself a favor and grab an order

Burgers & view are great. Wish their kids menu would include burgers, being that's what their known for.  Gets expensive when you're paying for kids to have a huge burger that they could never finish. Other than that, loved the food, service, & atmosphere.

The burgers are award winning ("Best of Central Florida" for I didn't count how many years running), the view is great, the service is excellent!
It can get kinda crowded sometimes, when you arrive with a group, be prepared to wait unless you called ahead!

Very typical beach-front bar and grill type restaurant. They have a large, pretty cool-looking, old-school bar and expansive windows looking out on the beach and ocean, but the food was weak, trite, and unimpressive. I had a salad with "Key Lime" shrimp which had puny little shrimp in it and the salad itself tasted like something bland from that Applebee's made yesterday and left sitting under cling-wrap in the cold room. My friend had a burger which he seemed to like ok but seemed pretty unremarkable overall. The bartender and waitstaff is friendly and pretty prompt though, I'll give them that, and it's probably good for drinks by the beach but there's bound to be better places to eat around.

I have been eating at the breakers for 3 years, the service and company was always wonderful and still is. I used to travel all the way there for there amazing fish sandwich. Recently, within the past 8 months, there sandwich changed or something happened and it doesn't taste as strong. I asked what may have changed and they said it didn't. :( I prayed this was a fluke, I revisited and it was still different!
Broke my heart because now it wasn't worth traveling half an hour to get a sandwich that taste like I can buy from a dollar menu. Hope you fix it so I will want to return.

Great burgers, interesting corn nuggets are a must try and the blackened fish is very, very good. With a great view, friendly bartenders and good food, this is a must visit hole in the wall beachside bar.

My fellow Yelpers did not steer me wrong. They have some unique burgers to try and a nice view of the beach.

We seemed to get there just in time to find a table for lunch, by the time we were leaving there were several groups kind of hovering around waiting to pounce on our table as we left... they might want to have someone seating customers instead of the free-for-all that I witnessed.

My family and I have a timeshare in New Smyrna and we visit every year and coming to breakers is a MUST for lunch and drinks  :)

I absolutely love the burgers (the best in the area) and chicken fingers baskets with fries!

You sit right at the bar and view the ocean or eat by the open windows facing the ocean! Great spot for lunch, right off the beach!

The service is friendly, though not always quick; the food is good, but not ever great. The bartenders are good but I'm not a huge fan of getting my drink in a tiny plastic cup.

On it's own, Breakers is a three star affair.  But an extra star is warranted for having the best ocean view of any bar/restaurant in New Smyrna Beach.

A fantastic place to grab a burger and sit by the beach. This is totally a what-you-see-is-what-you-get type of place.

Pretty much every table has a view of the beach and it smells great.

Breakers is a place where no one cares how much sand is on the floor or in your food. The servers I have experienced aren't the best but not terrible either. The bartenders are very friendly, though, and the bar is full with a lot of interesting beer and liquor choices.

Everyone raves about the burgers here but, being a non-cow eater, I could not partake in the fun. However, on my last visit, my veggie burger with lettuce, tomato, and mustard did just fine. My dining companions thoroughly enjoyed their flesh burgers and steak fries.

A nice ocean breeze is always wafting through the windows, and the view of the water is peaceful.

A great local place, for New Smyrnians (?) and tourists alike.

Another essential beach burger & beer joint.  They do it well.  Service when I was there was a bit slow but it was very crowded on a spring break weekend day, so I'll cut them some slack.  And once my glass of beer was finally delivered, it was nice and cold.

The Mahi-Mahi sandwich, blackened was awesome.  My brother had a bacon cheeseburger, which he says was to die for.  The chips and salsa appetizer, however, sucked (hard, stale chips and bottled salsa in little plastic cups).

This  Lil bar on the beach , is proclaimed in all types of lists to have the best burger in central Florida, best burger in Orlando area, etc.  So after a day on the beach we hit there, and it was a very very good burger, in fact probably the best I've had in my many years of coming to Florida.  However  in Boston it would be maybe a 7 out of 10.  With all the great burger joints we have up there, Mr. Bartleys , O'Sullivan's, wild Willy's, etc... So I came there expecting to be blown away , It is a great burger no doubt, but not even in my top 20 that i have had.  However it is right on the beach and if the weather cooperates i will be back a half dozen times in the next two months I'm sure.

OK so I have been living with one vegetarian or another for a very long time.  That translates to not consuming very many burgers.  Veggie burgers yes but ground beef burgers no.  I was on a recent business trip to New Smyrna Beach.  We were having a retreat at a nearby condo.  Everyone enjoyed their burger experiences at the nearby Chases and I stuck to the clam chowder and crab cake.

At Breakers I decided to seize this burger opportunity by the horns.  After all, they are the self proclaimed best burger on the beach.  If I am going to take a walk on the wild side of ground beef, it might as well be with the best.

I aggressively ordered my burger medium well with bacon, cheddar cheese, and all the fixins.  Breakers also has some good beers on tap and a full bar.  So, I was able to get my beer fix as well.  The burger came with some awesome fries and as I began to tear into that burger, the thought came across my mind, what the hell have I been doing wasting my life away with veggie burgers?

Sadly, I tried to recreate the effect on my layover home.  In the Atlanta airport I optimistically ordered a burger from Chili's-To-Go.  It just was not the same.  Now I will be on a quest to find the burger of my dreams.  Thanks Breakers!
