What's not to like about a place that has free cheese and crackers at the ready? Something so simple, but incredible all the same.
The bar scene was hoppin, had I not been with my boss, I could have got down with some drinking there!
I stayed away from the bread to make room for my meal, but it did look pretty tempting.
I ordered the skinny margarita which was pretty terrible. Watered down tequila, not my style. If a RHONY can make a margarita that tastes decent, this place should give up trying and just use hers. It was skinny because I couldn't drink it.
The tuna I had on the other hand was delightful, rare. No, it was literally rare. Just the way I like it.
Overall a decent meal and I'd go back if I was is in the area. Oh and they give you white chocolate with the check. Just a small sweet something to cleanse the palette.
One of my favorite spots!
Real homey feel to the place. Â Nice setup and decor; vintage New Hampshire feel.
The food is simply great! Â I just had probably my favorite pot roast ever at this place and my favorite bowl of corn chowder (I'm not generally a fan of corn chowder... but my wife ordered it!).
This is not the type of place to go if you're on the South Beach diet, but if you're looking for a nice New England spot, this is it!
Great find near the Merrimack Outlets. Â After a few hours shopping it was nice to hit up a spot that was supposed to provide a little taste of New England, and it did not disappoint. Â It looks quaint, and it provides that type of local atmosphere well. Â The food was good, the service was friendly, and the price was right. Â
They offer you free cheese dips and ritz crackers. Â The house made potato chips that come with the sandwiches were great.
We go to the CMan every so often, and we have never been disappointed in either the service or the food. Â The last time we were in for dinner, my husband asked if they could make him the lobster roll, even though it's only on the lunch menu. Â They complied, which scored points with us. Â Waitstaff is always friendly and helpful, no matter how busy they may be. Â Definitely our favorite local restaurant.
Review Source:Vintage New Hampshire. Where else would one be offered serve it yourself Ritz crackers with a cottage cheese/catsup dip? Decent diner/Denny's like food, but better. Service slightly pokey but friendly. With my dining dollar I will almost always go local and you can't get more local than the Common Man.
Review Source:my first time at this Common Man and the parking lot was full (6:15pm) so looks popular with local crowd. met "dinner club" companions at long table in dining room. service was very good, and the C Man menu was, as usual, full of comfort food and steaks, chicken, etc. dishes.
the bison meatloaf w/ mashed is always good and the beer & wine selection will satisfy most.
the CMan is not gourmet, but the food is always good and the prices decent. try it!
happy trails.
I couldn't say enough good things! A friend and I ordered some take out and there was a minor issue. She called and spoke with Scott. He offered us two new meals at no charge. She had ordered escargot and dinner without viewing the menu. When we looked at a menu to order, we saw that all the meals were pretty pricey and these meals cost more than what we had ordered. She called Scott back, told him about the price difference, asked if he was sure, but he still wanted us to place our order.
She ordered the Portsmouth Pie and I ordered the Uncommon Steak Oscar. She loved her meal as much as I loved mine. This was also the first the first time my steak came the way I have ordered it (and I have ordered from Texas Roadhouse). The sweet potatoes were absolutely amazing and the other sides were just as good. They also gave use some bread, something that tasted like a muffin, and some of their white chocolate for two :)
I had never ate there before. I plan on eating there again, and again. I forgot to mention how AMAZING the escargot was too! Please believe I am not just saying these nice things because he gave us the two meals at no charge. The food was great, the service was great, and they went above and beyond.
I love the Common Man! Â It's a great place for dinner and balances nicely between "nice" and "comfortable". Â It manages to be classy without being stuffy. Â Whenever my picky parents are in town, we take them here because there is truly something for any taste on the menu.
The cocktails are wonderful, the bread is wonderful, the appetizers are wonderful, the cocktails are wonderful, the meals are wonderful, the cocktails are wonderful, and the desserts are wonderful. Â Did I mention the cocktails? Â They have an amazingly fun selection of cocktails, and they are always tasty.
I've also always had fantastic service here, the hostess and waitstaff are polite and attentive.
If you're driving up from Boston to Merrimack to do some outlet shopping this is a great place to stop for lunch either before or after some bargain hunting. It's a very "cottage" type of feel that makes you think you're in some farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. The free crackers/cheese/dip is a nice touch, but a little strange I guess. The menu was surprising with many decent lunch options AND they have a dedicated gluten free menu.
I had a buffalo burger, which was really juicy and tasty. We also ordered a gluten free flatbread that everyone loved and the wife had a chicken sandwich on a gluten free bun. This place isn't exactly "light eating" so nobody had room for dessert, but we'll definitely be back again next time we're up in that area.
This is not the best place to eat if you want to be healthy. Â I tend to avoid carbs and things that are deep fried. Â The result is that there are only a handful of items on the menu that can be ordered. Â Like a lot of bread? Â They have it. Â Want dessert with white chocolate? Â They have it.
Want a nice broiled fish? Â I would suggest skipping it. Â The scallops were rubbery and the shrimp was overcooked. Â The gluten-free menu has high calorie items, such as Yankee Pot Roast, Pork Tenderloin and Apple-Walnut Crusted Chicken. Care for fruit for dessert? Â The only fruit came in a pastry with ice cream on top. Â (I did like the Cucumber Salad, but get the dressing on the side.)
I am really sorry. Â I wanted to like The Common Man. Â But, it is just a little too common for my waistline.
So I heard from a family friend that the Common Man in Merrimack, NH was haunted... So I had to check it out.
We didn't find any ghosts, but we did find a great restaurant that we are sure to visit again.
I personally love steak and seafood, so almost everything on the menu looked appetizing, especially the appetizers. We tried the mussels and the escargot... Excellent choices. Everything wa served piping hot and delicious.
Our entrees were also just as good. I ordered a steak, medium rare, and it was cooked to perfection. The potatoes were great too!
My one complaint was that there was a bit of something in my water glass, but our waitress noticed it before we did and replaced it right away.
In conclusion, for the price point, the Common Man was a worthwhile experience and has earned our approval. We plan on eating there again and hope we get the same great experience that we did the first time.
Great place. Â I was meeting someone for lunch and there's not too much around - but I saw this place and thought it looked interesting. Â You can't tell it's a restaurant from the outside because it looks like an old house - which it is. Â Inside it looks cool - like it has character - an old 1800s home which has been carved out and turned into a pub/restaurant. Â Menu has "regular" stuff - burgers, quiche, and things like lobster corn chowder. Â Neat / different. Â The quiche and caesar salad were excellent, and under 10 bucks - you can't beat it! Â Waitress was wicked nice - brought us "copper pennies" which are some kinda partially cooked marinated slices of carrot. Â Neat. Â They have cheese and crackers here for you to help yourself - nice spreads like garlic/cilantro cheese, etc. Â It's just really nice. Â A great place for a casual meal with decent foods and nice beers!!!!
Review Source:Great service, even for a large group. Â Good variety of entre's but hit and miss on whether you will enjoy the meal. Â I loved their beef wellington, cooked just right. Â My husband couldn't finish the pork loin - too dry. Â The salmon was fab, but the seafood medly in the casserole was "fishy" and the scallops were rubbery. Â Fun atmosphere. Â Nice bar to finish up after the meal upstairs.
Review Source:The Common Man was a nice distraction. Â Our group spent a few hours at the upstair bar chatting it up with the staff. Â The upstairs is set up to resemble a trio of living rooms. Â The building is ancient - and awesome - with old wooden beams and brick chimney. Â The location on the Yelp mobile app is incorrect - call for directions.
We heard that the CM is haunted. Â Boo!
I've been to three of the Common Man establishments and I tried Merrimack most recently. Â Like the other restaurants, the decor here is charming and fun. Â I tried the veggie burger this time, and it was pretty good. Â Service was excellent as expected from my past visits to other Common Man restaurants. Â It is too bad I don't remember to come here more often, since I do enjoy it. Â I only wish they had more unique vegetarian options.
Review Source:This is a hard one for me to review.  The setting is very charming indeed.  This was my first time here and I did not check any reviews, I only went on local recommendations.  We walked in and were seated at the first little room to the left.  Since I was unfamiliar with the restaurant, I thought this was it.  Everyone was having a great time in the bar above us as we sat alone in this room  I was next to window, freezing.  We asked to be moved upstairs.  As we walked through, there were other, cozier places to sit than where we were.  We went upstairs and it was unusual with the couches and coffee tables.
The waitress was very nice and attentive. Â It took awhile to decide. Â We settled on the mussles and chicken wings. Â Hubs was very happy. Â The pizza looked really good, so that is what I ordered. Â I am sorry, that was absolutely horrible. Â It tasted like a matza with no sauce and cheese. Â You know how this girl likes her pizza. Â Started getting irritable so I ordered the chicken tenders ( I never order this in a restaurant, only for the kids). Â I didn't want a large seafood dinner tonight. Â Chicken tenders, nooooo. Â Dry, thin slices of chicken that is very hard to eat. Â She asked me if I wanted the fries with that, I said sure. Â The sweet potato fries were sliced too thin and fried too long to be tasty. Â And, she charged me five bucks for something I could not eat.
The free crackers and spreads were good. Â I actually got some more after dinner so that I wouldn't be hungry tonight. Â The garlicky cheese spead was really tasty. Â Hubs asked me what I thought the orange one was. Â After tasting it, cottage cheese and cocktail sauce. Â Wierd.
I am sure it was just an off night and I would go back again, find the right nook to sit in and then oder something different and give this place a good review. Â I can see how it is popular. Â I did not like the fact that window seats are drafty and the windows are in desperate need of paint. Â It felt really gross. Â Paint the walls upstairs. Â This reminds me of younger days in bad rents.
Never a bad trip here. I highly recommend getting the nachos if you go there. They are HUGE and stuffed with everything you could possibly want. Â The prices are a little high, but it isn't unwarranted. The quality of the food is perfection. I have never had a bad experience with them. The plate of white chocolate the waitress brings at the end of the meal is to a nice touch; very high quality.
Review Source:While I always like the Common Man restaurants I never seem to go to them that often and think of them as an option for going out even less for some reason.
This location is in an old house which means that there are multiple rooms with tables in them. There is also a small bar on the first floor in addition to the main bar (which they call the pub) on the second floor.
The selection of beer, drinks and food is the same as other locations which is a good thing. They do have a slightly different food menu than the other locations with 1 or 2 extra options. The staff are good, but don't really seem to go too far out of their way while you are there. Prices are affordable and portions are very large. All in all a pretty good option and maybe I will remember that next time.
First time to this establishment- great food - I had the Mac n cheese with lobster and my friend surprised me with a delicious rich chocolate cake too. Staff called it a happy cake and they sang and embarrassed me. Very friendly waitress too. I also was amused by the soundtrack in the restroom. Great place- I'll go there again!
Review Source:Susan Sparkles conquers Merrimack, New Hampshire! Â Susan Sparkles manages to not get frozen solid even though it was around 20 degrees! Â Susan Sparkles tries "The Common Man Family of Restaurants" which was very cozy and lodge like. Â Â
The service was acceptable though nothing to write home about.
While at "The Common Man," I consumed about a weeks worth of calories. Â Between drinks at the cozy bar upstairs, free crackers and cheese spreads, giant crab cake appetizer, and and a mammoth prime rib, this meal could have fed every "common man" in the state. Â
Massive portions aside, I found some of my food to be really good and some of it to just be "meh." Â One of the homemade cheese spreads was good (light fluffy goat cheese with thyme and some other herbs), while the cottage cheese based one was not very good at all (watery, lacking any cohesive flavor, and kinda gross).
The "Best Crab Cake in New Hampshire" appetizer was very heavy and dense. Â I felt that it had more flour than crab and had been fried at too low a temperature so it was very greasy. Â Overall, not a fan.
On the flip side, the prime rib was medium rare and AMAZING and a really good deal. Â The "small" (and by small I mean whole cow) 10oz prime rib was only $18.99! Â
Overall I'd say this is a great place to experience a bit of New Hampshire if you happen to go to Merrimack. Â Is it the best food I have ever had? Maybe not, but it is definitely worth a visit (and the chunks of white chocolate that come with your bill.)
I was using my Yelp application on my phone on Saturday night and "The Common Man" didn't show up as in Merrimack.!
Loved the mussels, just the right amount of sauce for me, but I probably would have told a non mussel lover to be careful bc the sauce didnt drown out the flavor (which I love but not everyone does).
Split the lobster mac and cheese, amazing. Wish I could have sat all night in the lounge drinking red wine. Service was great, packed house but we got our food fast.
The food and hospitality are top notch. I enjoyed the Stuffed Roasted Butternut Squash with Chicken - It was everything I love in the vegetable world on a plate. The Meal ends with complimentary white chocolate and comes preceded by crackers and Common Man spreads as well as wonderful house-baked breads. The menu rotates seasonally but I loved the winter menu; I'll have to try them in the summer! My only complaint was moderately slow service (although it was busy) and somewhat overpriced entrees. The space is inviting and warm, at least in the non-literal sense.I'll be back.
Review Source:My wife and I absolutely love the Common Man family of restaurants, and we're very happy to have one nearby in Merrimack. The atmosphere is great, the servers are all very friendly and helpful, and the food is fantastic.
In addition to our many private dining visits to the C-Man, I've also attended a business function there, and it went very smoothly. The buffet-style food for the meeting was up the the usual high standards of the restaurant.
When a friend asked for recommendations for a local place to hold his wedding rehearsal dinner, we told him that the Common Man was at the top of our list. They did choose it for their rehearsal dinner, and they were very happy with the results.
There's also a bar/lounge upstairs with a different, more "casual" menu. We've eaten upstairs once and it was excellent.
My mom and I went here for lunch before going to the airport for her return to Ohio (sniff--bye Mom!). A born country girl, my mom loved the decor and the atmosphere. I've decided that C-Man's opening for lunch is the best thing that's happened around Merrimack for awhile! Same delicious cheese and crackers, same savory carrots, and, most importantly, same great service. Our server was Nikki (sp?), and she was so nice and friendly, telling us to come back and ask for a table in her section.
Mom and I each ordered Uncommon Combos: she got the Uncommon Salad and the corn chowder, and I got the Uncommon Salad with a ham and cheese on rye. My combo came with a handful of homemade potato chips that were very flavorful and not too salty. We agreed that the salad was awesome; the gorgonzola and the candied hazelnuts worked well together, and my mom liked that the candied hazelnuts weren't overly sweet. She is an iced-tea conoisseur, and she loved the C-man's very freshly brewed iced tea with a sprig of mint. We sat and sipped two glasses each after our meal.
The prices are also very nice: the combos were about $8 each. I have to save room for dessert next time--what a menu! Can't wait!
This was a great place for me to meet up with a friend of mine that I have not seen in quite sometime.  She also was from Merrimack and CM automatically came to mind.  We decided to go up stairs where they have large comfy chairs and couches to sit and relax on.  They have a nice drinks menu and a great pub menu.  I was in a (funny) mood so I ordered a Riesling and an order of buffalo tenders.  The wine was great as always!  Funny thing about the buffalo tenders; when I was pregnant with my kids I craved  good buffalo wings or tenders and I tried many places with no lucky......that made for a not so happy mama to be.  I only noticed that the CM made buffalo tenders and when I tried them they were really good!!  Too bad I didn't know until after I had my babies!  So anyone looking to curve your craving for tenders look no further!
Our waitress was also great! Â She was friendly, attentive and was quick to noticed when anyone of us needed a drink refreshed, someone was looking to order food or just get us something we may need. Â Great job, CM on your food and hiring of great servers!
Instantly fell in love with this place. The decor, the vibe, the friendly staff.. the fun bathrooms. : )
Really enjoyed the cheese and crackers pre-meal. For dinner, I ordered the scallops. Only complaint was not enough salt... but I could have just added some. I like salt. Not everyone does.
I wish these restaurants were in Los Angeles. I definitely want eat here again!
I've eaten at the Common Man a few times and gotten take out once. The take out experience was marred by a missing appetizer, but otherwise it was good. On our last visit we also didn't receive our appetizer, which was probably good because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs that night. However, to make up for it they offered us any desserts we wanted at no charge, which was very kind of them.
The food itself is good. I've tried various things and I seem to keep coming back to the appetizers. The roasted tomato spinach dip is really, really good as are the blue cheese potato chips. The drinks are kind of hit or miss unfortunately. My sidecar the other night was not great, but I've had other beverages that have been stellar (like the non-alcoholic mango basil smoothie). Oh, and of course the free cheese and crackers and the Trivial Pursuit cards are pretty good, too.
On the first floor is a dining area, but I've never sat there. We always head straight upstairs to the bar. There are seats at the bar, but also tables and some comfy seating areas with couches and arm chairs.
As a late birthday present my girlfriends and I went to Common Man Merrimack, I LOVE their recipe for the mussels app a MUST have. One friend and I had been not too long ago, sometime this past summer - and it was delicious.
Unfortunately tonight was NOT the case.
Cons:
We were never properly greeted by our servers
We had TWO servers back and forth and didn't have a name for either
Each of them gave us attitude at different times throughout the meal
It was hard to even make eye contact with them because of their lack of personality and interest
We had to wait for service often
Our food was good; but I ordered the steak daily special - blue cheese and onion sauce over prime rib (which was a bit over done if you ask me and NO one did ask me!) but the entire meal was a bit bland, I found myself adding salt and pepper simply for some flavor.
Pros:
Our appetizer was delicious though! We had the Roasted Tomato Spinach Dip, which did not come with nearly enough crackers but I can't really complain because they do give them out at a self serve cheese station (but you would think they would still serve enough for the dip?).
I'd have to say I'm really disappointed in this place. From now on I will stick to the Concord location which has never disappointed me in service or flavors.
Summary:
Honestly the atmosphere was amazing and the service ruined it. The food would have been better if properly seasoned. Perhaps they would have even found out it was my birthday dinner if they had even taken a second to look at who was sitting in front of them. Big disappointment.
I just have to say to all waitresses - I used to do the job for a few years, recently, and you really need to learn to concentrate on the customer because that is your BOSS if you think about it. They are the one who pays you** I'm not saying let customers ruin your time but certainly do not ruin their time.
I have coming to the Common Man for years now and it has always been great. Â Servers / bar staff are nice and food always arrives quickly. Â The reason that I only give it 4 stars is because I believe that they changed their menu a bit. Â I miss the "Porky and Bessie" burger. Â Also, the buns the use now are way too much bread and it takes away from the yummy burger. Â Overall I can't complain.
Review Source:Common Man is one of our favorites! Plus, you really can't beat Wine down Wednesdays, 1/2 off bottles of wine! They have Layer Cake Shiraz, which is an excellent full bodied red, 90-92 points! We tried the Mac & Cheese pizza with pepperoni, which sounds odd, but our server (Tina) highly recommended it and we had the mussels too. The mussels came out first and we polished those off in no time. Â Came in an excellent white wine lemony cream sauce, awesomely tasty! Â Then the pizza was ready and it looked amazing and tasted even better! Â Don't knock the Mac & Cheese pizza until you try this amazing pie! Overall, the Common Man is great place to unwind after a long work day in the cube, good location, good friendly service, and delicious food! Â I just hope they bring back the Rack of Lamb... Â Cheers!
Review Source:There are multiple locations of the Common Man Restaurant, but they are very similar. It is set up like an old home and serves homestyle food. I like waiting in the lobby and looking at the magazines that are for sale. There are crackers and dips available for free in the hall way.
I was at another location last January during the Presidential primaries and Senator John McCain stopped in for dinner. The food is like I grew up with, and something that you don't get too often where I live now. I typically get the meatloaf, which has never let me down. This time I wasn't too hungry and they were sold out of the traditional Sunday turkey dinner. Instead I chose the chicken wings. They were good, but different. Instead of a traditional buffalo sauce, they were tossed with a sweet red pepper jelly ($6.95). Very good! The meal also comes with a slice of pecan date bread and a ciabatta slice.
The meal ends with a scoop of white chocolate shavings. Nice end! I gave it four stars because the menu is a little small. If you go with something in mind (like this gentleman at the table behind me did for the Sunday turkey dinner) and it is sold out (like it was for him) you may have a tough time with the limited selections. He chose something which he didn't like (although he ate almost all of it). When the waitress asked how it was and he complained, the manager stopped my later and comp'd the meal. Good customer service.
Common Man has great homestyle comfort food, however it's not that great if you are into eating healthy and/or are a vegetarian. My family loves this restaurant so we go for dinner fairly frequently. The crackers and cheese that you can go up and get are wonderful, the cheeses are very unique. Sometimes we buy some of the cracker dips to take home. Also, the bread they bring to the table is always yummy, a variety including banana bread. My parents always ask to substitute french fries with the sweet potato fries that they offer in the upstairs lounge (they are delicious but cost more than fries that come with meals).
The salads are alright, however the dressings can be quite sweet. The Uncommon Salad (only one without meat) has a VERY sweet dressing that I am not a fan of. As a vegetarian, the only options seem to be very unhealthy (Mac n' Cheese, Vegetable Wellington in puff pastry with creamy gravy). However, when I used to eat fish I always enjoyed the salmon and the haddock. The seafood is always fresh.
We have been to several Common Mans (Concord, Windham, Merrimack) for large family get togethers, with 10-17 people. The service is always wonderful, and the wait staff is very attentive with refilling drinks and is very courteous even in large groups with small children and infants.
Desserts are phenomenal, highly recommend the creme brulee duo or the baked apple with homemade ice cream (order halfway through your meal, baked to order).
I love the lounge part far more than the actual downstairs restaurant part (the menu is good, but most of the stuff on there is just not my thing.)
However, the lounge area is "far out" (in the parlance of our time...).. Simpler menu, nice comfy couches, and a far more casual environment - you can also order stuff off the full menu. Also, a bunch of the appetizers are enough for a meal, and pretty inexpensive (like the potato skins). Their Mac and Cheese is really good, as aretheir burgers.
I also recommend hopping over when they open. Not that I'm trying to sway you to eating during bluehead hours, but parking is truly a mess at this location. They do offer valet parking though.
I think the menu here is too small. Â I mean, how much 'down home americana comfort food' can ya eat? Â Well, I can eat a lot of it so I need more than 2.4 choices. Â I think they need 2 more full pages on the menu because 2 chicken dishes and a beef dish etc, isn't enough.
The food, though, is good and they do some nice twists on American classics. Â It definitely is comfort food.
They have a few neat features.
1. Â They have couches and coffee tables upstairs where you can eat dinner and laze around.
2. Â Their after dinner mint is fresh pieces of white chocolate chopped off a huge block.
3. Â You can get a bottle of wine and if you don't finish it...you can take it "to go".
4. Â You can buy old records, advertisments and other random antiques as you're waiting for your table.
5. Â There is free valet parking
If the menu was larger, this place could easily be 5 stars but everytime I go there I'm always wishing I had just went to Silo's for a nice garlic steak...
NH Best restaurant - Great atmosphere, service and food! Very cute restaurant. The hotel I'm staying at nearby recommended this place  and I'm glad they did.  As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a very nice host.  I decided to eat upstairs in the bar area like the front desk clerk at the hotel recommended. On the way to my table I passed a table of a brick of cheese and crackers free for everyone. On each floor they often the cheese and crackers. Â
I ordered Steakhouse salad and Chicken Florentine. Â The salad is a wedge of lettuce with bleu cheese dressing and bacon with red onions. I highly recommend the salads. The Chicken Florentine was a little dry but I still loved it. Â The best part of the chicken was the stuffing and garlic cream sauce. Â For dessert I had a toll house cookie with icecream. The best dessert I've ever had. The cookie wasn't what I expected it looked more like a slice of Blueberry pie. Â They served the cookie warm with A LOT of chocolate fudge on top with a side of home made ice cream. Â I ate the entire cookie which could have served 2 or more people. Â Also at the end of the meal they give you two little chucks of white chocolate. Â Which I had to take home because I was so stuffed from the meal.
They also offer free valet parking. Â Which isn't really necessary at least on a Sunday night. Â There was plenty of parking in the lot for me to find a space close to the door.
Overall, this dinner was the best I've had in a while. Â Similar to Cracker Barrel but 10 times better for atmosphere, service and food.
This restaurant is open for dinner and for Sunday Brunch. The Common Man Merrimack serves steaks, poultry, seafood, pasta, appetizers, salads, soups, and homemade desserts. The bar menu offers appetizers, salads, pizza, and sandwiches. As you enter the restaurant, a metal bucket on a rope goes up. The restaurant is like entering an old farmhouse with fireplaces, decorations, and two levels of dining and a cocktail lounge. The floors are hardwood with area rugs and tables with table cloth and utensils rolled in red & white checkered linen napkins. The chairs are the hardwood chairs with straw seats. Some chairs are suspended high on the walls. Each table has a lit candle holder since the place is dimly lit. I had an enjoyable quiet dinner in the lower dining room.
Since it was Monday night, I ordered the Prime Rib Special ($21.99), which included salad, potato, vegetable, bread & butter, cheese & crackers, and dessert. What a deal!! The cheese spreads (orange cottage cheese & a soft white cheese) & assorted crackers (in a metal bucket) are self serve in the lobby. The Uncommon Salad (mixed greens in vinaigrette dressing, gorgonzola cheese & candied hazelnuts) was a good tasty portion with the offered fresh cracked white pepper. The bread basket with butter consisted of a warm very crusty ciabatta bread and a cold sweet bread. The Prime Rib (some fat I needed to trim, otherwise a decent cut) dinner came with creamy horseradish dressing, creamy/chunky mashed potatoes, and mashed sweet squash. The dinner was very tasty. For dessert, I chose the Mud Pie (coffee & chocolate ice cream packed in a graham cracker crust with whipped cream and lots of hot fudge), which was very sweet!! The waiter also spooned out some complementary white chocolate chunks with my dessert. Sweeet!!!
Overall, my meal was great and the service was good (given water refills) and friendly (checked on often). Little things such as the complementary cheese & crackers (in a metal bucket), fresh ground white pepper, and complementary white chocolate make this place unique and interesting. I would definitely return to The Common Man to try the other menu offerings.
