This place is absolutely amazing... nicely re-done! The ambiance is so unique! The live music is mind blowing good! There's over 25 beers on tap! My fiance loves the STRAWBERRY BEER... I like the underground feel! The service is excellent as well! They have billiards and an awesome on-the-wall photo booth that takes pics! CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! If you're not a big beer drinker, go w/ the strawberry beer... they will also let you sample a couple to see what you like!

Heck yeah, its finally re-opened!! Time 2 start guzzlin my dark bitter stouts from a goblet again. The undergrond bar i had grown 2 love months prior is still the same good ol dimly lit bar with benches that resemble those of Valhalla. Keep in mind this place caters 2 beer connoisseurs. Theyve remodeled the bathrooms (not that it matters) but it still has that really tranquil vibe. They had a band playing "top 10 radio covers" they wherent bad, they helped set the proper ambiance 2 keep havin a good time

After a big dinner at the Playground, I saw a chalkboard sign for "80s Night" and "No Cover" so naturally I wanted to go down the dark creepy stairs to check it out.

Yea there was a deejay playing 80s music.   It was dark cool bar waiting for us to dive in.  Wasn't crowded.  We played two rounds of pool on the last free pool table and drank some strawberry beer (YUM, more please!)

I'm looking forward to going back for more.

    - Locale Destination -
It's on N Broadway and W 3rd St in Santa Ana.

This place is located right next to "Chapter One", but faced on Broadway and downstairs. If you see the bouncer, that's it! Show your ID and go downstairs! It's very very dim. Nice simple and modern design with very chilled atmosphere. It's like any other "hipster" downtown "Art Village" things going on (that's a compliment. I like the cool vibe in this area). Bar on the left, a big communal table in the middle, 3 pool tables on the right (by  hour), stage at the far middle. There're shows without the cover, which is pretty cool. The crowd were mixed surprisingly - Asian, Mexican, and white etc. (This downtown area is surprisingly crowded with "hipster" white people - it's in Santa Ana after all..) Many Asian beer pourers (bartender but no mixed drinks nor wine) - I suspect the owner must be an Asian..

    - Gluttony Expedition -
They have decent menus on tap and bottled beer - from Domestic to Belgium. No wine, No cocktail - ONLY beers. The price is like everyone else in this area - it's almost the same as LA hipster places.

Tripel karmeliet : Belgium bottled beer. At the beginning, it tasted like a hot dog :p - it's great to drink with a hot dog in a hot summer day. Light body with yeast flavors. Not bad!

Allagash black: $8. Tap. Roasted Coffee flavors. Light, mild and smooth stout. I'm not a fan of stout, but this wasn't bad!

Fruli strawberry beer : Belgium beer. Bottle. "Wurstkuche" in LA has those fruity beers on tap. Very fruity like a strawberry daiquiri. Very light. Not bad.

    - Conqueror's Deduction -
3.5 stars because many of the beers were good despite of the fact that the menu was not so big. They do have good beer selections - even for this sommelier/beer connoisseur. Many Belgium beer selections. Belgium beers have a great quality if you didn't know about beer.

The menu isn't as big as "Chapter one" nor any similar establishments in LA, but good enough to hangout with friends for good beer, live band, and pool.

I went here for the first time on a night where I was craving whiskey.  While they don't have a full bar, the beer selection is great.  This place has a really fun atmosphere, fun pool tables and great drinks.  It has a very underground feel (mainly because it is underground) but the dim lighting and the feel make it feel like a speakeasy.

I was there on a night with a live band playing.  While I did prefer the jukebox, the beer definitely held me over.  The beer variety is unique and fun.  Definitely going on a night where I'm craving a variety of beers.

Great beer, great service, great setup. Cool place to hang out. I remember the old place that used to be here and this place is way better. Live music is here as well. Still have the pool tables.

Copper Door is a great place to meet up with a large group of friends for a casual night out.

Next door to Proof, head down the staircase to what I determined as a high end yard shed interior design - nice woven floating lights held up by ropes, and floating fireplace with woven stools as well as vintage low watt bulbs created a warm and dimly lit atmosphere.

Plenty of table top to place your drink as it was a large floating counter top that ran around the interior of this large space.  Wood walls, wood picnic table top in the middle, wood bar - kinda reminded the bf of Big Foot Lodge West in Culver City sans the lumberjack and grizzly bear.  Pool table, stage, dj booth and a nice dance area - we got our groove on to the Ubiquity dj's spinning all night long while sipping on our beers.

Menu - beer and wine only, no food however there's a taco truck that shows up street level and a couple of food joints on the same block.

One of my absolute favorites/my favorite bars in the area.

    Beer lovers, Listen up!

This place reminds me of those underground taverns in Prague that I used to visit. They always have great music- either vinyl spinning or performing live.
They don't have hard alcohol or TVs so not a great place to get wasted or yell at a sports game... There are other places in the area for that so don't trip, chocolate chip.
The candles, hanging ropes, rock structures, centralized bar, benches, pool table, corner piano, stage, and fire pit are uniquely decorated in a minimalist fashion.
This is a great place to grab a beer with friends, hang out before or after a visit to the Yost or hang out at if you can't think of anything else to do- hek start up a game of pool or dancing.

Conveniently located directly under, yest under, Chapter One- it is a great venue, sure to host a great time.

Drinking odd beers while cloaked in darkness is one of my favorite past times. This place feels like you're on a viking ship; It's made mostly of a rich mahogany and there are tons of dudes with beards. Yeah, why not?

So this is where the cool people hang out! This place is awesome! First its door is at a bottom of a flight of stairs. Then you walk in to a dimly lit bar hall that you might mistake for something out of Dusk Till Dawn (without the worry of vampires) they have a variety of delicious beers on tap. Unfortunately, we were not there on a night that they had live music or a featured DJ. There are also a pool table and long picnic sized tables that will make things a lot easier to rub elbows with strangers to make some new friends. I definitely need to go back to this underground tavern!

I've only been to The Copper Door one time, but I think overall, it was a decent experience. To me, this place screams hipster-beer-connoisseur hang out spot. The place is very dimly lit, and I mean so dark that I had to use my cell phone to read their beer menu.

If you're the type who likes trying new and exotic beers from around the world, you'll like this place. Short of being pretentious, the environment and crowd may take a little getting use to. The beer selection definitely leans towards Belgium brewers, but there is a large assortment.

Adore this place for the beer and unique decor. It's a hidden gem in the OC and if you're walking too quickly on Broadway you might miss it. They have an excellent beer selection and feature some pretty great bands here. The first time I went was to accompany a writer reviewing the band Amherst Aisle. The show turned out to be an epic cover of the entire Sergeant Pepper album by ________ (if you don't know who then TSK TSK). The laid back atmosphere, beautiful decor and yummy beer all made for a great night.

Plus, afterwords the band mingled with everyone in the crowd over drinks. Aka, it's definitely not a stifling pretentious place. More of the fun little spot to hang out and chat with friends.

Great Bands + Great Beer = Excellence

Beer Selection Good , But they try to hard to be Exclusive......Have some foo foo stuff but also have  stuff people like.

    Djs: Suck, Hispters

    Some good bands..........Some

The people seem like they only want to cater to the how should I put this NEW visitors to down town Santa Ana..........News Flash you moved in to a MEXICAN/Latino neighborhood if you wanted a "more sophisticated clientele" you should have opened your bar in Costa Mesa, or better yet stayed in Long Beach.

We went to the area hoping to find some nice night life. The Copper Door looked inviting, so we checked it out.

The inside reminded me of Saddlerack only because of how much wood was everywhere.

We were surprised to learn they only serve beer. They suggested the strawberry beer since I was hoping for a fruity drink. It was bomb! Loved it!

We went home early, but this place was a nice way to end our night.

Great place for an evening get together! nothing but great microbrews and your non-typical beers. environment is ideal for some light dancing, socializing and they even have two pool tables. Bartenders are nice and their prices are reasonable. I also love the dim lighting and wood furniture/accents.

Drawbacks: only one restroom and it can get pretty warm due to no AC.

Overall: Great place for beer enthusiasts and people looking for a relaxing social evening!

LOVE the look of this place. I was only here for about an hour, but I can tell you that they do not have air conditioning and they only have one bathroom for each sex, which have VERY low ceilings and feel cramped. But I suppose it adds character. Friendly service, good choices of beer for a good price, and Im sure the bands here would be cool to see.

Cant wait to come back and experience this place a little more.

This is probably my favorite place to come to in the OC for drinks. It's located down a very unassuming staircase next to Chapter One, and might come across as sketchy - it's anything but.

The bar is quite large, with a huge oak (?) table with benches going down the centrer of the room. On the sides, there's a stage, some pool tables, the bar itself, and some smaller, more private seating areas.

They have a glorious selection of beers on tap; favorites of mine are the Blanche aux Bruxelles and the strawberry beer, all served in awesome chalice/goblet-type glasses. They also have bar snacks (peanuts, trail mix, etc.), you can nosh on.

This is really the perfect place to kick back and catch up with friends over a pint of something delicious. My review doesn't truly do the place justice, go yourself to give it a shot.

Walking down Broadway came upon a mysterious stair case that led downstairs. No cover, no line, cool security guard...we took the bait. The first aspect I noticed once I arrived to this urban basement type establishment was how big of a space it is. Bar and pool tables to the left, seating and fireplace to the right, looooooong communo table smack in the middle. Lots of dance space and a stage towards the back. A great place for groups, dark, and very hipster.

I don't know how other nights are but Thursday night made me feel like I was on the movie set of Step Up: Break Dancing. Within 10 min of my arrival this bar became packed with break dancers doing their thing anywhere there was open space. My friend and I just sat back and enjoyed, good talent out there.

This place only serves beer and wine. I was not a fan of the Pear Cider...tasted too much like beer and it was on the "Beer Hater" menu. I did LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Strawberry Beer. Perfect blend of strawberry flavor and beer.

Music: Old School Funk...I'm sensing a theme through out DTSA bars. The music is a nice change from the stuff playing on the radio today.

My favorite spot to come down and relax. A chill, mellow underground lounge that serves an astonishing variety of beer and is always playing the jams. My first impression when I stepped in was that it was an old school beer hall/ speak easy with it's long wooden table set-up. little fire place the hang out by and relax, and large dance floor. I noticed they labeled this as a "pool hall", but they only have 2 tables. Come on now, really? With a little rearranging they can easily set up 4.
As far as crowds go it tends to lack on certain nights, maybe because of it's beer only menu, which is sad because this place has potential to be a really rocking joint, if it isn't already. None the less I stop by here every time I go out to downtown Santa Ana, the ambiance alone is what keeps me coming back.

How cute is this place? Underground... intimate, my kind of place!

Located in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana, The Copper Door provides you with an open area... great for groups  and offers 2 pool tables. A longgggg rustic wooden  "community"  table starts from the back of the bar all the way to the stage were you can watch a local band rocking out. On the left you will find a bar that ONLY serves BEER!

Dogfish Head 90 minute? Yes please, and I'll have an Allagash White to wash it down. There are other places to sit, but this feels like more of a stand around kinda joint. My first time here and definitely not my last, I am in love.

1960's music + hipsters + great beer + pool table = The Copper Door

I have to be honest, the whole dark basement atmosphere reminds me of the Three Broomsticks in Harry Potter, but that's just me.

I went to this bar recently during Cinco de Mayo with two friends. We had never been in downtown Santa Ana before and didn't really have any idea what it would be like. We were pleasantly surprised when we stumbled upon this place after previously being grossed out by Proof next door.

The Copper Door is located underground and definitely has that urban, basement-y vibe. The music was awesome and dance-able and they had a pretty big beer menu (no other hard alcohol, though). Their strawberry beer was DELICIOUS, the long tables made for fraternizing with the other clientele, and the overall atmosphere was nice. You could definitely tell they attracted a certain crowd. Beer prices weren't too high, ranging around $7-$9 for the most part.

The only complaint I had was the extremely long wait for the women's bathroom. There was only one stall, and for women, it's not fun having to stand in line for thirty minutes every time we go out because of bad planning by the bar! It's not cute when you have drunk chicks fighting over who's first in line.

Aside from that, it was a fun experience. I would definitely go again.

This place seems like it has potential but it really lacks execution.  They've got a good thing going for them w/ a very extensive beer menu, like Alagash black for $6, Bootlegggers hef for $5, and alagash white for $7.  The thing is they don't have any hard alcohol here.

The inside seems cool because it's in a basement that looks like a drinking hall, but after staying there for a few mins it's actually quite boring.  The music they play is boring (like 60's music or something weird on a Saturday night), there are no TV's around so there's no ESPN or games on (or just play music videos or something), and it's pitch black so you can't even see the drink menu they provide.  The bathrooms also don't have closed stalls, so male restrooms have to go #2 right out in the open.  Go to home depot and install a door you jerks!

My biggest gripe is I've been here a few times and they've had Chimay's for $6 a pour a few months ago, but I went back yesterday and they bumped the price up to $9.  I asked the bartender and she said they've always been $9.  That's totally wrong cause I was just here 2 months ago and my other friend was here around the same time and it's been $6 (that's 2 isolated incidents of us being charged $6 for Chimay pours).  I don't mind if they bumped the price up but I don't subtlety being called a liar.

Also I came here the other day and some guy tried to charge us cover (this is AFTER the bouncer upstairs checked our ID's and stamped us to go in); the bouncer up stairs said there isn't a cover charge.  We told the "fake" bouncer we didn't have to pay cover and he "let" us in.  Talk about Santa Ana ghetto.  Managers need to bounce this establishment better, I feel like I'm going to get mugged INSIDE this place.

Cons: Uncomfortable seating, boring interior, sound-system is bad, bathroom doesn't have a closed stall, too expensive for a drinking hall.

My friends and I were eating dinner at Chapter One and kept seeing people go into this place and decided to see what it was all about.

The place was way bigger than expected and totally not what I thought it would be.  There's a huge communal table in the middle with a huge stage, some smaller tables on the side, a big bar and some pool tables.

It was a relaxing spot to kick it with friends, drinks were cheap and there was no cover.  I'd come back

    Pretty hipster for hip people.

Underground with low lighting and long communal tables.

A place for beer connoisseurs for sure.

When I last went, there was a folk band playing X-Mas covers.

    Interesting to say the least.

Nice interior, large free space, seats are not too close each other.
They have a lot of kinds of beer. I had strawberry one. That was sweet and good for ladies.
    Live band was good, too.
I want to try there in the other day for the other live band too.

Great decor, delicious beer, roomy, plenty of seating, and pool tables.
The centerpiece of the bar is a giant wooden communal table.  It's beautiful.
Don't forget to ask for some of their flavored nuts (grow up). A delicious $3.

    -
Spotty music selection, no hard alcohol or wine, and the music's too loud.
Kinda silly for them to not have prices on the beer menu when there are beers floating around at $25~ a pop.

The best thing about this place is the men's bathroom.  There's a toilet without a partition right next to the sink in a tiny alcove.  I can't wait until I work up the courage to drop a deuce there while striking up a conversation with whoever is washing their hands.  Girls are so unlucky sometimes.

One star for the cool location.

One star for the music...way to go DJ Hobo...very cool. Haven't heard a DJ set quite like it.

One star for being roomy enough and having plenty of seating.

If it was just based on the crowd I would give it one star. I didn't though because it's not them it's me. I'm just too old for this shit!! LOL

It is very unsuspecting what happens as you travel down the stairs to go to the bar-- bam you're in this place that looks like what could be a 1920's speakeasy.

Large wooden tables line the floor, for a place to gather. Real fireplace and nice little chairs to tuck yourself around.  I love their use of wood in the entire place with very neutral colors and has a very light, tranquil feel to it. And nothing would make it more complete then Edison bulbs to tie everything together.

Great beer selection-- a bit on the pricer side, but they have a knockout selection and VERY unique that I haven't found anywhere. I really LOVE the strawberry beer. It tastes like jam.

I guess some nights they have DJs playing there. The night I was there the venue was not even full and the music was too loud--my friend asked if the DJ could turn down the volume a little bit to not blow out our ears, and they were more than happy to turn it down a little bit, so we could talk without shouting.

One of my favorite places in the Arts Village to drop by and just hang out.

Please note that they ONLY SERVE BEER. So, with that one special caveat, don't complain that they ONLY SERVE BEER. You've been told now!

Anyways, chill music, plenty of seating, good beer selection and the fact that its NOT super stuff is all very big WINS in my book.

I am also a fan of the communal tables and the decor/feel of the place. I WILL BE GOING AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN in the future. heck, I could have sworn I was just here the other day.

Great place, a definitely recommend for anyone looking to hang out and chill.

The night can only get progressively better. Stop number two was literally around the corner from Chapter One, down stairs and into what felt like a cabin or as the fellas mentioned, pirates of the Caribbean.

I love the long wooden communal table and bar. However it could use some better lighting when glancing over the beer menu. Perhaps some tealight along the tops. It was odd to have to look at our menu using the light from underneath the counter top. Overall the selections were good and wondered if they were on a rotating selection since I really didn't see a wide variety of brews. Great taps though!

Overall the space is sparse but had a nice chill vibe that night. It was a good way for us to wind down with beer and just let loose. As seen by some of Maryanne P.'s photos.

Note: trying the strawberry beer next time. On this visit, I went with a Chimay blue label. Yum!

Ehh weird vibe, dead, doesn't have a good "brewery" feeling.  Bars need panache and this place doesn't have it.  Cool space, awesome decor, but no it factor. What are they missing? A liquor license, duh.

I totally dig the Copper Door and I am so happy to have been introduced to it via Yelp.  My first time here was during the CYME that Hazel threw a few months ago and I thought that the ambiance was real mellow and chill and I totally appreciated the dark wood tables, bars, and chairs.  (hehehe dark wood...don't act all mature, I know you thought the same thing).  Anyway, the vibe is absolutely perfect for chilling out and enjoying the nice buzz one gets from taking down a few high alcohol content beers.  On some nights they have live music for entertainment and last Saturday they even had a DJ spinning out some 80's new wave.  Awesome.

As for the selection of beers, it's definitely on point.  They have a few beers on tap and a pretty impressive list of other beers from the bottle.  Now if you need recommendations, don't be afraid to ask the bartenders, they are really cool and friendly.  Brenna (I hope it's Brenna and not Brenda...don't kill me next time I'm there!) was nice enough to take us through a little journey of her favorites and let me tell ya, girl knows what she's talking about.

Lastly, I will say that if you're looking for a place to sit around and pound beers and act all stupid and loud, this isn't the place for you.  They don't have any TV's or Top 40's music blaring over their stereo system and if you just turned 21 and your idea of a good beer is Corona or Heineken, this definitely isn't the place for you.  Save yourself some money and make your way over to TGIFridays instead.  We'll both be much happier that way.

The only reason this isn't a five star review is because they only serve beer and they only have two restrooms (1 women 1 men).

If you can get over that, then you must come to at least check this place out. It's unique and feels hip but minus the hipsters. It's downstairs. It's huge. It's dimly lit. It's pretty much amazing - just too bad I can't order a liquor drink!

Oh and don't come hungry - they only have gourmet peanuts that you get charged for.

Props for having a huge stage with live bands - this could be a really awesome location to bring some friends and hear some music - I should lookup what their upcoming schedule is like...

This magical place is hidden among all the bars in downtown Santa Ana. Once you walk downstairs, it's like the 2nd drop on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The air gets all quiet and cold, the mood dark and eerie, it's like going back in time.

The orange glowing decor is like being inside a tavern back in medieval times. There's a long wooden table in the middle where you expect to see the cooked turkey in the middle surrounded by grapes and chalices of wine, Robin Hood and his Merry Men having a festive dinner.

They serve Old Rasputin Imperial Stout here, which is the beer that makes you grow a beard. The seasoned pistachios are addicting and makes your fingers sticky.

There is no place in all of OC or Long Beach like Copper Door. It damn near perfectly fulfills everything on my dream bar checklist. (The only thing missing is endless free drinks, but - hey, a gal can dream, right?)

The owners are from Number Nine Noodles and (more importantly) The Vintage Collective (not a restaurant, but you know they've got style) in Long Beach, and have completely outdone themselves with Copper Door. You know that dim, underground, kinda sexy, speakeasy vibe you get from some SF or NY bars? Well, that's THIS.

Long wooden tables for communal seating, a couple of pool tables, awesome lighting, a ton of space, a surprisingly humongoid dancefloor/stage area, and a gorgeous bar all add up to Awesometown, USA. But what's even more awesometown? The perfect beer selection - delicious Belgiums on tap! The service - no annoyed eyeroll when I asked her what they have on tap. The tables! Oh, I'm in love with those long wooden tables.

Hopefully they'll snag themselves a full liquor license one day, because I can't imagine a better place in a 30 mile radius to sit back and sip a glass of whiskey on the rocks. In the meantime, looks like they do some pretty cool nights with 60s music and others with a speakeasy-ish theme. Can't wait to see what else Copper Door is going to bring as they really get going.
