After a minute or two we were seated, we were told by the hostess our waitress would be right over. over 5 minutes later our waitress came to greet us. She stumbled through the specials, correcting herself after almost every other word. We ordered our drinks I ordered a sprite and my fiance ordered wine. She came back with our drinks and asked if we were ready to order. We put in an appetizer order and told her we still hadnt decided on our meals. She came back over ten minutes later reeking of perfume, honestly I could taste it. Her eyes were blood shot and she had this stupid grin on her face. She was clearly stoned!!!!!!!! We placed our dinner orders and after another 20 minutes she came back to our table and told us that they were out of the calamari (with we ordered for an appetizer) She asked what we wanted instead, we declined another appetizer because we expected our food to come out shortly there after. She said okay and went back into the kitchen. Our waitress came over to check on our drinks, and my fiance asked about bread and the salads that came with our meals. To that she said "oh fuck, I forgot" She brought us the refills for our drinks and then the salads.
It took an hour after ordering for our food to arrive at our table. After delivering the food she brought out bread and asked if we needed anything else, we said no. With our salad dishing still sitting on the edge of the table when she walked away. The food was decent nothing to write home about. Luckily the waitress never cleared the salad plates because never gave us a bowl for the shells for our seafood pastas.
After what must have been another half hour an older woman in an apron emerged from the back and began counting the cash drawer. I walked up tp her and asked if we could have the check. Very warmly she said she would bring it right over. She dropped off our bill immediately. Our waitress then came to our table smelling like a cigarette. She asked if we were ready for her to take it I pointed out the calamari was still on the bill. She rolled her eyes and walked away. When she came back she practically tossed the loose bill on the table and walked away without saying anything. The woman from the register was sitting in a booth near our table going over what looked like financial records. I walked over to her and asked for to go boxes for our food and asked her why the time stamp on the bill was for 40 minutes after we got there. She asked if she could take a look at the bill. I gave it to her with the money in it. She went in the back and came back a few minutes later with our boxes, and the bill. SHe took of 20% and apologized for her "staff" She also insisted that we keep our change.
So I gave the place two stars both of which are for the sweet old lady in the kitchen. But Chianti our waitress was a nightmare.
It doesn't look like much when you enter but the food speaks for itself, and is quite delicious! Excellent. Â Love the homemade Italian dishes. Â I've been here multiple times and it's always good! Â Stuffed shrimp is awesome and the sauce is on their pasta dishes is so good. Â You always get a lot, possibly too much but no worries here just more to enjoy the next day.
Review Source:Painfully slow service is offset by decent food. the entrees seem to be homemade too. The rolls are unlike any others that I've eaten, and are especially good. Â I was surprised that the air conditioning was kept as such a low setting. Â It was 90+ degrees today and a good 80 degrees in the restauarant. Â That just shouldn't happen, and detracted from what would have been a nice experience.
Review Source:Overall, the food here is pretty satisfying. Don't go here if you're looking for fancy ambience or "evolved" Italian dishes. The decorations are sparse, the building looks old, the food is simple, BUT it is pretty delicious for Newburgh.
My husband and I started off with mussels in a light marinara sauce. Very simple, very fresh, very yummy. For entrees, I ordered the linguine in a white clam sauce, and my husband ordered chicken and Italian sausage in a tomato sauce over penne pasta. Both were homemade and good, and the portions were HUGE. I think 2 entrees would be plenty of food for 3 people.
Despite the rather negative reviews on Yelp, my husband and I tried out this place after it was recommended by a friend. The locals must know something that the Yelpers don't, because there was a surprising number of cars in the parking lot and people in the restaurant, given that it was a Wednesday night.
Okay, no exaggeration, the worst dining experience in my life!!! And that's saying a lot. We went here on Christmas Eve with 7pm reservations. We arrived full of Christmas spirit and ready to really enjoy a nice dinner. Wow, did we make a mistake! I was raised in Orange County and most of my family still lives there, so according to family tradition we spend Christmas Eve with our mother. We used go to Chianti's, but new owners made that forgettable. With such limited dining opportunities on this night, my brother chose this place. We arrived ten minutes early for our reservation and were greeted by a line of about 15 people waiting to be seated. No big deal, we're just happy to be together. The head server, (I say this with all sincerity-holy ghetto) greeted this large group of people with language that would make the most hardened Marine blush. There were elderly people and children in the line as she slammed menus and cursed other guests at the tables. She clearly needs to find another line of work, because the hospitality industry is not for her. While waiting thirty minutes to be greeted and seated, I realized there was no bartender working that night, as the little podunk bar is right at the front door. Finally, Ms. Congeniality told us they were bussing the table and we would be seated in a few minutes. All of us in line were praying this psychotic angry person was not our server. Finally, we were escorted to our table, in the overly lit dining room. Seriously, I got a sunburn from the lights. They must have forgotten the three secrets of good restaurants. 1-Lighting. 2-Sound. 3-Service. We waited another ten minutes to place our drink orders, I ordered a Ketel and Soda. Another angry, ghetto server, brought me a Ketel One Vodka and Coke-again, I know this is Newburgh and not Manhattan, but come on man! She seemed annoyed, and disappeared into the bright abyss that was the dining room. When she returned, she gave me a glass of Club Soda sans the Ketel. No big deal, we're together. We sat there, with no bread or water, but we were laughing and enjoying ourselves. Finally, angry server number 2 took our orders. After about another hour, I approached the server and asked her to check on our order, as my elderly mother (who by the way was wearing her cutest Christmas sweater and is the sweetest old lady ever!) needed to eat. She offered no excuse. I returned to the table to inform my family of our conversation. It was okay, because we were all together, right, not so much! I went back to the "bar" area to inform my waitress that I would be paying for my drinks and leaving. She was cursing through the kitchen door at the kitchen staff, blaming them for her inability to put our order in. THEY NEVER GOT IT!!! Amazing...I was born and raised in the restaurant business and and run an 11 Million dollar a year restaurant in Manhattan-I know one thing, 99.99% of the time when an order is wrong-it's the servers fault. I know Newburgh is not Manhattan, where I live and work, but service is service and this place is terrible. If I could give 0 stars I would. I should not have paid for my drinks, but I did. We ended up going to Napoli's in Vails Gate-TOTALLY AWESOME 5 STARS!!!! If you live in this area and want good food and GREAT service-got to Napoli's. Now, my wife is more eloquent than I and has scripted a letter to the owners of this abortion, I hope they take heed of our letters. Seriously, if you are unwilling or unable to staff accordingly on these Holiday's then stay closed. Thank God for Napoli's, they saved our Christmas. Avoid this place like the plague, which by the way may be in full swing, by the huge cock roach I saw running across the bar....
Review Source:For Newburgh, this place should be a five. Great food all made to order, wonderful family owned restaurant, inexpensive and a great atmosphere. Â The onl reason I give it a four is because its somewaht slow. This doesn't bother me at all, in fact I think its great to slow down and enjoy our meal, but other people might not think this was so great. SInce everything is made to order and baked fresh, including the bread, it takes a while for the food to come. But it is worth the wait.
