A friend wanted to stop by here on Thursday ladies night...so off we went! There are also some good drink specials on this night. It was crazy in there so the bartender gave me a glass of vino on the house just for the wait. Fine by me! I've gone to Cowboys a couple of other times with friends who get down with the country music. Me...not so much but I can bust out a 2 step every now and then! They also play other genres of music. We did the wobble! Get out on the dance floor and strut your stuff. Don't forget your cowboy boots. Oh and ride the bull. Don't act like you're too good for country dancin'. If you're into people watching this is the place for it.

I enjoyed my visit. It's much better and much larger than the Houston location of Red River. Since it's in Dallas....smoking is on the patio only. the drinks are average when it comes to pricing and the cover for us on a Saturday was $8 a person.

The pool tables aren't in great shape...but it's not a pool hall so you can't really fault them. The bartenders are fun and the performers have never been anything short of awesome. Call me cynical...but my only complaint is that they allow 18-20yr old minors in.

I LOVED this place!!!  This was my first visit to a Cowboys ...I guess I'm one of the few people new to this establishment.  The place was packed yet comfortable.  They had a stage with a live country singer and even a mechanical bull. I loved they way they switched between hip hop and country.  Next time I'll be prepared to dance the night away in cowboy boots or flats.  Save your feet from discomfort and don't wear heels.  You'll be the only one lol.

Was in Dallas on a short vacation trip.  This is a great spot for two step, mechanical bull riding, live music or just grabbing a few beers and shooting pool.  The staff is great.  Band was fantastic and the local crowd fun.   Nothing better then girls in cut off shorts and cowbow boots.

On vacation in Dallas, I was surprised to find that there aren't many country western bars. Since an impromptu trip to Fort Worth wasn't possible, we found Cowboys Red River.

It's a big place and people watching was really fun. The live band was really talented. The downside is that unless you like to two-step, you won't be dancing. With the racetrack shaped dance floor, there were no traditional line dances, even when they played the Boot Scootin' Boogie. I was really disappointed that I didn't get to do any of the dances I know.

Next time I'm in the area, I'm going to head to Fort Worth to get the real Texas cowboy experience!

Had a wonderful night.  Band is great, a lot of activity to watch, and beer is only $2.50 this night.  Lots of room until about 9pm then suddenly it is crowded.

Only thing I would suggest is eat well before you go.  Had no idea there wasn't even bar food available but they did allow us to order from a local Italian place and get delivery.

Well I finally got to experience line dancing for the first time, and what better place to channel my inner-Texan than Cowboys Red River. I'm not too much of a country music fan, but I do know a fun time when I have one. This place was totally different than my expectations. It's gigantic inside with cowboy hats and jeans everywhere you turn. 100% Texas, baby!

Parking was a breeze and that's really appreciated considering how huge this dancehall is! There's no other real way to describe this place than music and dance heaven for cowboys/ cowgirls. Inside, there's a huge stage with a band playing live music. They were energetic and of course the crowd was loving it considering how couples were twirling about the dance floor. I was pleasantly surprised to hear a variety of music as the night went on. Aside from the busy scene, there were several bars spread throughout so you didn't have to wait too long at all to order from the bar. Nice touch. Service was friendly and the drinks were relatively cheap.

A mechanical bull and a lively crowd is the perfect recipe for a great and very interesting time. I had a blast, and thought it would not be a place I'd go out of my way to return to regularly, it was definitely a hell of a time. For the country music fan or the dancing queen, this is a must-try though- for sure!

A great spot for country dancing, mechanical bull riding, live music or just grabbing a few beers and shooting pool.  The pool tables, however, could use some TLC.  The bartenders and waitresses were friendly and attentive.  We went on a Friday night around 8pm.  There was no cover and there was line dancing instruction going on.  Wear your beaver hats and ostrich boots y'all!

The most beautiful track dance floor, great live music/DJ, bull riding, and most of all , smoke free! My favorite place to be when I visit Dallas.

If you like country dancing, you should definitely check this place out. Huge dance floor (tho it is shaped like a big race track, with a bar in the middle of it--some people don't like that, tho I never have minded).

The most popular nights are Thursdays (ladies get in free that day) and Saturdays. Fridays are not as popular there, which is good for you if you like to have a clear dance floor--but if you're looking for a crowd, definitely stay with a Thursday or Saturday.

No smoking inside--so you'll pass by a big line of smokers outside on the way in.

It's a mix of music -- they'll play about 30 minutes of country, then 10 minutes of club music, then back to country. (I'm estimating)

I had a BLAST at Red River! This was my first trip to Texas and I wanted to go big or go home and do some cowboy dancing. Red River Thursday night did not disappoint. First off there's a mechanical bull- score. Second off the drink specials are priced for fun. A round was less that 1 drink in LA- badass. And third, it was legit Texas, there were not one but two dudes there dressed in overalls- not ironically. Hilarious.
The music was 1/2 DJ 1/2 live band and there was a moment where they even played popular tunes like Cupid Shuffle and Gangum style (which admit it, after a few rounds is a lot of fun to dance to)
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there wasn't really any line dancing, just couples dancing- so if you go with your girls you gotta find a group of guys. We partnered up with some adorable cowboys who were great dancers and this NYer learned how to Texas 2Step!
Idk if locals think this place is hokey, but as an out of towner I can honestly say Red River is a really fun Texas night!

I love this place.  It's the only dance hall I know of in the Dallas area.  Thursday nights ladies get in free, so I've only been on a Thursday.

Drinks are CHEAP!  $2.50 domestics and wells.  They have a house band that's great and alternate between the band and a DJ.  This place is great for people-watching.  Younger crowd of townies in the area and older couples with serious moves.  They play mostly top 40 country music on the radio.

It would be great if the dance floor was a little wider, it tends to get crowded and you bump into people.

    Fun times!

I dunno about the "huge" dancefloor. I used to live in Denver and been to the Stampede there and that dancefloor is really huge! Google it if you don't believe me...

But, its a great fun place. Spme eyecandy guys, thursday is best I guess cause guys come out to try to get laid... If you want to bone desperate I guess this is the place to go. Lots of drunken hoebags dressed slutty enough in too tight daisy dukes jiggeling their trunk on the table.

Anyways, if you just seek dancing it is also highly recommendable.

If you are tall like me and dont give a crap that idiots stare, its also good :)

This place is decent with mostly kind employees and friendly people. The music is mostly good too. The only problem I have with this place is that it is TOO LOUD. I've been to concerts that weren't as loud as this place. Prepare to have your ears ringing for 2 days every time you go to this location. Other than that, it's a decent location with decent people. If you love to dance, there are a lot of beautiful ladies in this place.

This place is okay. I prefer Billy Bob's in Fort Worth, but if you can't make it that far West, then Cowboy's is probably your best bet in Dallas.

I'm giving it 3 stars because the band was really great, and the bartenders were all very friendly and helpful in suggesting good mixed drinks.

Wait staff and dancing are great.

DJ admits that management is "very corporate" and thus song requests are unlikely to be played unless it's "Top 40 Country" or the like.

Not bad, all in all.  A big group of us went on a Friday night and had a ton of fun, but it was in spite of several major drawbacks.

The Pros: (1) No cover charge before 9pm was very nice, (2) the dance floor is nice, clearly well kept up, (3) pool tables and plenty of places to sit, not too crowded.  (4) TVs showing music videos and a football game was a lot of fun.  (5) very friendly bartender (Renee) although, see #3 below.

The Cons: (1) EXTREMELY loud....I prefer to be able to speak to and hear my dance partners, and that was impossible here.  Even at the tables it was very hard to hear each other.  (2) The bar in the middle of the dance floor is a bit odd....if the place was any more crowded than it was, dancing would have been difficult because you would quickly run out of room.  (3) They told us on the way in that drinks were $2.50 before 9pm.   My wife and I had 8 drinks between the two of us before 9 and 2 drinks after 9.  Our total bill was $43.  You do the math - none of our drinks were anything remotely special or expensive.

I would go back, but I really wish the volume level would go down a bit, and I'm still perplexed at our bill.  I felt cheated at the end of the night and that really deflated my opinion of the place as we left.

I'm a sucker for detailed leather, country top 40, and men who can spin me like a dreidle.

The dance floor is huge. You want to twirl in a big circle? Check. Want to dance 4 feet above everyone else and to everyone's great pleasure (I hope)? Check check. What about a little island above everyone's shoulders? Check to the max!

I love the vibe and wish that more people ask people to dance! Most of the hour if pure country top 40s, while they throw in a few pop top 40s and 1 or 2 oldies for the...uh...well, yeah.

Crazy thing are the prices of the drinks. $5 for Bud Light? You're sh*itting me. Are you trying to promote flasking?! Oh well. Water's free. At the bar.

Next up, the bulllllll!!! I'm sure I can beat all you.

This is a really big, really fun bar, especially if you are looking to actually go dancing. The dance floor is large and a lot of the people that go have dance skill and you can find a partner and hit the floor. The drinks aren't expensive but the wait at the bar can get a bit excessive. The bathrooms aren't the cleanest either, but there are plenty of them so no lines really. They have a mechanical bull you can ride (or watch people fall off of) and often there is live music. The music selection is good and its a very "country" place to go when you are looking for a not-so-city kinda Dallas night out.

Great place if you're a dancer. Circular dance floor, good country music (mostly live) with some popular songs mixed in here and there, pool tables, and an mechanical bull!

No smoking inside, which is really nice, and good-priced drinks.

Dance floor, Check. Shaped like a racetrack and people literally "ride" around it with their partner! (no glass permitted here)
Bar tenders- ladies in cowboy boots and oh so short tops, some of them even sell jell-o shots.
    bathrooms, big and pretty clean.
Games, check. Billiards and I believer Darts.

thursday night is lady's nice and free dance lessons so gets busy.
most seats are reserved but you can reserve online for free.
also im pretty sure they keep it 58deg inside so you might want to bring a jacket

I have been coming to Red River for the past three years.  It is a great place to just hang out and chill.  This club has a great band called Run'n Behind led by Tod and the beautiful Stephanie!

Club has a "horse rink circle" as their dance floor with a huge horse saddle as their disco ball!  You'll hear music from George S. to Carrie Underwood and more.  Nick the DJ will mix it up with some G6 and Cupid Shuffle to make it interesting.  (Just don't mind the guy dancing on one of the boxes)  :/

Place is huge with a total of five bars where you can get drinks fairly quickly.  My bartender of choice is Ashly!  She has the looks, moves and skills to keep you coming back for more!!...drinks that is.  Just don't ask for her number.  Lol.

There is a food cart just outside the front doors where you can get something to grub on before heading out.  Greats place to watch all the drunks stumbling out the front door!

How are there only 12 reviews on this bar/saloon?!?! Texas must not be big on yelp is my assumption.

Anyhow, we had such an awesome time at the Red River on Saturday night.  Sure we felt out of place but you know what they say about southern hospitality.   The people and the staff... all really nice.

Red River is really spacious.  What was unique to me was that the dance floor was right in the center and had a bar in the middle.  Oh, they also had this cool saddle hanging above that was all blinged out.   People danced counterclockwise.  It reminded me of being at a skating rink.   Let me tell you, Texans sure know how to dance!  This made my bf and I want to take some lessons when we get back to Cali =)  Most of their style appeared to be a little like the modern jive while keeping in rotation going counterclockwise with the crowd (heck, I am an amateur when it comes to dancing techniques).  They even line danced a bit and did the cupid shuffle.  So fun and different from what we have in Cali.  This is the authentic saloon that Saddle Ranch on Sunset (LA) tries to be.

Around the venue they had plenty of full bars and beer bars.  Drinks were not hard to get and the place was packed.  They had several tables to gamble as well (Texas hold em and Blackjack - for points I think).  They even had pool tables that was only a buck per game.  Next to that you will find a mechanical bull for $5.  I even got my boots polished for $8!

I am not a big country music fan, but I enjoyed the music.  They had a live country band too!!! I wish you could hear the excitement in my voice =)

Sum it all up.... I am not from Texas and I wanted to experience something new.  Mission accomplished.  Thank you Red River and I also have to thank Danny that works there.  I spoke to him on the phone prior to making our way over and he took great care of our party!  You are awesome Danny! You deserve a promotion!

I'm a bit disappointed at the Dallas country scene. Not a ton of places to go so I really thought this would be the place to go but apparently I was wrong. I'm seeing lots of reviews that ladies night is great. I may head out there and check it out then BUT I did go out on a Friday night so my review is based on that evening. Now keep in mind, my reviews are based on the fact I travel alone when I go out so here goes.

I was not impressed. This place is huge of course but it seemed so dead. It has a large round dance floor with a center bar. Toward back right (walking in the front door), you can ride a mechanical bull. I saw no one this evening partaking of the festivities. I went by myself so I thought for sure someone might ask me to dance or walk up to even speak with me. It didn't turn out that way. Although someone managed to walk behind me and pass the nastiest gas (they were sweet, left me a fart gremlin to tend to). ANYWAY! It looked to be mainly couples on this evening and catered to an older crowd (35 and over). The band was great. I think it's the regular band that plays so that was surely the best part of the evening.

There's tons of parking but I did valet. Valet is $5 so is very reasonable. I believe they run various specials and again, ladies not seems to be the night to go. I drank liquor and the drinks were strong but not overly so they were good. If you go before 9pm there is no cover. One thing I do warn you about is that it also appears they let under 21 in on certain nights. As a general rule I don't like going to bars under 21 just because of the liability and the crap that sometimes happens.

It just didn't have the vibe of a fun country honky tonk like some other places I've been in Oklahoma. Maybe for a group, I can see this might be a bit more entertaining or if you came with a dance partner. Should it be better on a ladies night, then I'll update this review. Until then you may want to go somewhere else if you can find anything but this may be your best option.

hahahaha. I was searching for something else and totally came across the link to review Cowboys Red River. How could I NOT review this place?

There are so many reasons I love this place. Mainly because it is horribly wonderful! Thursday night is ladies night and this place gets PACKED!

Filled with people from all over Dallas this place is magical. I've seen guys wearing tails (I kid you not, he had a lion tail attached to his jeans. When asked why the tail he stated that it gets attention. I give him credit...it does). I've also had the honor or seeing a couple come here after they got married. It's always a good time watching a redneck couple come in a TX tuxedo and a wedding dress to a bar and down Bud Lights and smoke cigarettes. God bless Texas!

Aside from the circus act (stated above), this place is a good time. Great country music both new and old, they mix in pop music so all the Rocky Mountain wearing girls can shake their butt and at 2am when you leave the BBQ stand outside is SLAMMIN!

I recommend this place for dancing and of course people watching.

I'm usually not a big fan of country/western bars and dance clubs, but this place suits me more than Billy Bob's in Fort Worth.  1. It is closer to home 2.  It is more of a single-friendly atmosphere 3. It plays more country pop music and some R&B/hip hop/hard rock/techno and 4. There's a mechanic bull-riding

It is like Gloria's, instead of a Latin club it's a western/country club that should play country music for the couples to two-step on the dance floor.  But they don't always play that music.  I could never predict what kind of song they are going to play next.  They can play country music first, then the next minute another country, then all of a sudden they play R&B/hip hop/techno.  What's also random is that there's a bar in the middle of the dance floor!  They also have those bar tables for people to dance on, so it's kind of little bit like "Coyote Ugly" -ish also at times.

Okay, I want to first off say that I don't do country music or cowboys, but my 3 friends drug me out to this place.

It's Thursday and that means that chicks get in for free!  What this means to me is that there is nothing to lose on my part.  Thursdays also offer $2.50 domestics and wells which is pretty badass.  I don't listen to country music, but if I did I'd dig this place a LOT.  Towards the end of the night they played rap?  I don't get that.

Basically my friends and I wandered around, drinking and chatting, we watched the mechanical bull toss people off of it which was amusing and we also watch the dancers dance.  I am not familiar with this line dancing thing so I was so thrilled with this Cotton Eyed Joe song, people were dance, dance, dancing and then the song sped up!!! It was actually really fun to watch and tempting to do lol.

Anyway, I like this place, my friends and I met some nice people and we had fun.  The bathrooms were fairly clean, the bartenders nice enough and again, lots of friendly patrons.

I'll go back when my friends drag me there and I won't whine about it.  You should go check this place out if you like cowboy crap.  If you don't then, eh, I'd stick with basically everywhere else :p

Thursdays are great-- live band (they're good), packed with people, tons of dancing (couple; no line dancing). It's their biggest night of the week. Can't vouch for what the weekends are like.

Age range: 21 to 61. Average age probably 32. Great variety of people. Be prepared to party!

I had a surprisingly good time here!  First off, this place is HUGE!  I cannot even imagine what it would look like empty.   I didn't come to Dallas looking for cowboys or cowgirls, but I'd say that I found them here.  In fact, I could probably pick out a couple of Texas stereotypes here as well:  the big hair, denim everything, cowboy hats, country music and of course, a mechanical bull.  I was in Dallas for 5 days and I can't say I ever saw much of this anywhere else, but while I was at Red River, I saw little else (which, btw, was awesome!).

The place is all one story but it is spread out to encompass several small bars, a game section, a central dance floor, and a stage (with a big ass screen).  The bar pretty much only serves Bud, Coors and Jack Daniels shots.  Or at least that's all anyone drank.

The stage featured a country band and they were so into their performance, even I wanted to be a country fan for a little while.  The main dance floor in front of the stage never missed a beat.  I have no idea what they were dancing but I was jealous that I didn't know how and that they were dancing too quickly for me to jump in.

The game section was the best part though.  They had pool tables, darts, video game type things, cards, and a mechanical bull.   Really, you could operate the game section as its own institution and still have to totally profitable places.  It's a young, good looking, fun loving crowd and I had a great time!

I was in Dallas for business for a couple days and I always make it a point to get out and see the city I'm staying in. I had my reservations about TX but I am a huge country music fan however.

I'm a California grl but I absolutely love the idea of a big handsome cowboy sweeping me off my feet and dancing with me around the dance floor just like the movie Hope Floats. It didn't exactly go down that way but I did have many suitors which is always great!

I had a wonderful time and would have to tell anyone who visits Dallas to come by this place. The staff is friendly, the music was great and I would also suggest you ride the bull! It was so much fun!!

Country men are gentleman for the most part and if I could have stayed longer I would have.

One last thing- Girls...do not make the mistake I made by wearing high heels...I sucked up the pain and danced anyways but DAMN I still can hardly walk right.

    Dallas rocked my world!!!! hahaha

I had such a good time here. This was another stop on the Rachaelpalooza tour that went to all of the places Rachael Ray went to on her $40 a Day show.  I wanted to have a beer and ride the electric bull in a real live Texas Honky Tonk.

We got there before it really started to fill up so we didn't have to pay a cover charge. Not that I'm trying to be cheap or anything.  We waited awhile for the electric bull to start operating so we adjourned to the bar in the middle of the dance floor. I had the aforementioned beer whilst my cohorts had a margarita. I liked watching the couples do the Texas dance around the oval dance floor that was sort of like a rollerderby track.

Finally the bull was operating. After signing the waiver, I asked the operator to take it easy on me because I'm from California. He did and I stayed on for about two seconds.

We left soon after the band started to perform so I didn't get to see the cheap girls shake their moneymakers. The smoke was bad and as a Californian, I'm not used to smoke. I was shocked to see a real, life operating cigarette machine.

I had a great time living my John Travolta Urban Cowboy fantasies.

Big C&W dance bar with good live music and plenty of bars around and inside the dance floor to kept your whistle wet!  Poker in the back right corner, mechanical bull riding, you name it!  The music will switch a few times an hour to current rock or hip hop and the dancing really changes (including some women up on the speakers and stands getting freaky).

All in all, a fun place to get out that has a real Texas flavor to it.

I love to 2-step and since I live in Texas you'd think it would be easy to find a place to kick it country style, but not in the city unfortunately.  Cowboys is one of the few places (that I know of) where there's plenty of room to dance to a live band, and touristy as it may be I always have a great time here.  The cover charge is very reasonable ($7 or so) and drinks aren't terribly overpriced.  The dance floor makes a big circle around the middle bar, and there are several more bars around the perimeter of the joint.  I love sitting in the middle bar and watching people dance.  The only band I've seen here plays cover songs and that is fine by me, although would it really break the bank to hire someone talented with original songs like The Weary Boys?

There is poker in the rear (har har) and a bull to ride when you get drunk enough to wave your cowgirl hat around for 2 seconds before you fall face-first into the ground.  Gravity is not your friend here!

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars to Cowboys is because after 3 or 4 good 2-stepping songs, they bust out the booty-shaking stripper music and their bartenders go all slutty and dance on the bars (which makes it impossible to get a drink).  I'm sure the guys love it, but it makes me cringe.  Even Billy Bobs, the Fort Worth twin of Cowboys, doesn't go there.

Cowboys Red River is a huge honky-tonk playground conveniently located in the heart of stripperville, or off northwest highway, between I35 and Loop 12.  Dont pretend like you dont know what im talkin about.

My roomate persuaded me to go last saturday in celebration of his birthday.  He's said many times that line-dancing is gods gift to lonely  men, as the greatest sureproof way to pick up little ladies.  So I donned my sweetest pearl snap shirt and we mosied on down the expressway to the busy center of the north dallas strip.

There's plenty of parking space for your big diesel dually...and trailer.  Outside the front entrance there was a dude manning a hamburger stand, looking cold and lonely...kind of strange.  We were greeted politely at the door by your requisite big dude in a cowboy hat.  After he made sure our documents were all in order, we entered and paid the cover.   I forget what it was exacltly, but under 10 bucks.

The first thing you notice is that this place is pretty darn big.  Theres a stage to the right, where a band was playing.  A large dance floor in the center, literally in the shape of a circle, with seating along the outside and in the middle.  There are several bars on each side of the rectangular bulding, with a few pool tables and a mechanical bull in the back.

We arrived pretty early, but barely managed to claim some real estate in the back corner, behind one of the bars, where I spent most of the evening attempting to drink myself into a better time, and people watching.  The crowd seemed to be a mix of people in their 20's 30's and 40's, with most probably in the last two categories.  Cowboy hat and jeans crowd, as you might expect.

Most of the night a band played country covers, or so i was told.  They could have been all originals for all i would know.  Intermittently though they would play booty music, and many of the scantily clad bartenders and beer girls would get up on a stage or their bar and dance under a spotlight.  They were also projected on to the large tv screens above the center of the dance floor.

Overall its a pretty decent place if youre into the big texas meat market type thing.  And if you dont manage to snag a cowboy/girl by the end of the night, you could always just head down the street....
