Tasty food. Reasonable prices.  Service was slow.

Inside smelled stale like the bar isn't clean. Patio was comfortable and spacious.  Band was not my style so we wrapped up our dining and dipped out.

I came to drink and not eat so I cannot say anything about the food.  However, I do not think I will be making a concerted effort to return to this bar and grill concept.  Coyote is in all honesty a great place for some good people watching, there are all types that come here.  By the looks of the patrons that Friday night, Coyote is a depository for the residual "Ocean Slime" folks that makes their way south into Carlsbad. We got in before the cover charge kicked in, but I would never pay cover for this place. Why?  There is nothing particular special to justify charging a cover for a random DJ with no particular mixing talent and a small makeshift dance floor.  If there was anything good from my experience at Coyote Bar & Grill is that the bartender poured some stiff vodka/tonics and the fire pits outside.

For what it is: an outdoor bar and grill with music of some sort 7 days a week...where ELSE can you actually get this? Food is very good. I love the cajun shrimp salad, ribs, sweet potato fries... and their pasta dishes are GREAT on a splurge night.

Great people watching..lots of ''individuals'' there who just dance alone...kind of crazy people at times but all good.

Went here about a month ago on a friday night. I used to love it as a kid, but the menu now confused me since I remember it being Mexican food...but it's more like twisted Mexican fused with American and even cajun. My server was friendly yet missing sometimes. The margaritas were pretty tasteless and not strong and the salsa was bland. However, my chicken fajitas were still really good! Also the unexpected entertainment was quite enjoyable/uncomfortable at the same time. After dinner we noticed an older crowd all partying together...and dancing...and touching...it was bad but hilarious. No offense to them, I'm glad they still have their fun!

The food and atmosphere are great.  There is ample outdoor seating and multiple gas fire pits.  Coyote has live music and room to get up and dance.  Many regulars here too.

Coyote has a wide variety of clientele, by day a different animal than by night. You can feel comfortable bringing the family for a bite to eat and some great entertainment outside on the patio, around the firepits, which is fun winter and summer.  At night, especially the weekends, this basically turns into a nightclub with bouncers and Dj's and dancing.  A great place to hang out and have a great time. Just make you pick the appropriate time to go as the atmosphere changes day and night.  Parking can be tight but can be found!

Saturday afternoon+umbrella shaded patio table+LobsterCorn Chowder= delicious . Friends and family can chill at an outside table in the afternoon. This institution is located in the center of the village. park your car and take a stroll before and after stopping in.This place is jumping in the evening but mellow during the day. We started with the lobster corn chowder served with this amazing grilled cornbread. We were full but we had already ordered large fresh salads for entrees.  Probably want to share if you start with the chowder.Enjoy.

Definitely great food!! The crowd is on the older side and I really enjoyed watching them karaoke! Their carnitas were delish! My hubby ordered the Cajun shrimp tacos and his tacos were overflowing with big fat shrimp!! A little pricey but food was great!

Good food. Nice fire pits. I don't  come here all that often, but its a fun place to hang out, grab a bite, and have a few drinks now and then. The servers are always nice, polite and attentive. If only they would only add Guinness on Tap, as its just not the same coming from a can.

Coyote leans towards being and older crowd and usually on weekend afternoons and nights there is dancing on the patio. Its a fun place for people over 40.

Came here for a birthday party, or I probably would never have tried this place.

Service was friendly and attentive, especially for such a large group.  The drunkards of the group were having a blast and seemed to like their drinks.

The salsa was good, but my entree was terrible.  Overseasoned, overcooked.  Dry beans and tasteless enchiladas, blah.  How can something be overseasoned and tasteless at the same time?  Don't ask me, but I don't know how else to describe it.

    I probably won't return.

Coyote is my secret pleasure like reading People.

Kinda embrassed to say it, but ok, I'll just say it - I just love it here.

Live music, sitting outside, fire pits, margarittas, chips and salsa.

No one taking themselves too seriously (except maybe the perv grandfather I see once in a while grinding on the dance floor).

But seriously?  Come on, you know you love it. At least I do.

What else would you want in a beach town bar?

All my out of town guests love it.  Especially my folks.  Hysterical, but love it.

Stumbled across this restaurant and decided to give it a try. It was a Sunday afternoon and we were so delighted by the outdoor fire pits and music. Had a couple drinks that tasted great and were very impressed with the presentation of the food. Everything looked so good and tasted GREAT!

No other outdoor patio cooker can match the fun fare at Coyote if you're a foodie and music fan. Their mouth watering Ancho Grilled Snapper with Shrimp La Paz or Lobster & Sweet Corn Chowder with cornbread should gain chef applause. The music is usually great with the exception of a few hard to dance to bands. But the people watching makes up for it.

Horrible service!!  Came to the bar with my husband and a friend for drinks with the possibility of having dinner later.  The waitress, a blonde with a real attitude, took a while to come over and take our drink orders.  The margaritas were very watered down.  It could be because it was happy hour time but I'm had much better elsewhere for a lower price.  She got chips and salsa for all the other tables except us; almost as if she was intentionally ignoring us.  We left and had dinner elsewhere.    We'll never go there again.

I would have given them a half star if I could.  I guess the food is good but the service in the bar area is really bad.

This restaurant is tucked back into a corner off the visible street area. We decided to go here after spending a day at Carlsbad beach with some friends. The service wasn't super great, but the salsa was super delicious and spicy, the live bands were amazing and fire pits outside added to the ambiance. I would definitely go to Coyote bar again. Margaritas were way too sweet though, get the rum and cokes!

After dinner at a nearby restaurant, my girlfriends and I decided to stop in for a drink to chat and hang out.  It was COLD (freezing) out but we didn't want to go inside where people were dancing and where it would be too loud to chat...so we decided to have a seat alongside one of the many large firepits outside.

We were immediately approached by a very nice waitress who took our drink orders and returned promptly with all drinks in hand. She was very easy to chat to and we exchanged pleasantries for several minutes. She was very cute and perky.  Since it was soooo cold out, we only sipped on our first round of drinks for the time we were here.

On a warm summer night, and if this was your scene - I imagine this would be a great spot to come and have a cocktail in the evening. On a night where temperatures were nearly freezing, the firepits did not provide much heat and we all kind of froze our tushies off.

For me, this really wasn't my kind of scene but I think for younger 20 somethings, this is considered the place to be.  For us 30 somethings, too much young blood and too many obnoxious / just became legal / can't handle my alcohol peeps to tolerate.  Great service though...but warning - the security guards take their jobs very serious!  No feet on the firepit walls!

Fun place, I like to go there. I was even able to take my dog along.
What I am sometimes mad about, is the security people at the entrance. They talk to people very rudely. Also, it's very hard to sit there on a Friday or Saturday night.
The reggae band of last Friday was great. I think I'd go again, especially for the music.

This place is way, way overrated...

The parking lot is a nightmare, the patio is stuffed, often times with the odor of cigarette smoke wafting about, the drinks are overpriced, and they are short wait staff, you'll wait a long time before you meet your waitress, and a long time before you'll see her again. The food is good, but nothing more special than you will get almost anywhere in So Cal where they feature California style Mexican food.

On the plus side, the music is often good, and clearly, what draws people in.

However, beware ladies, there are many vagrants living in the area, and they lurk in the parking lot. If you put your purse on the wall between the patio and the parking lot, they will grab it and run off before anyone can get outside the patio to stop them.

So I have been to this place many times, I have friends who want to go here whenever they are in town, but other than that, I will not be back. There are better places in North County to hang out.

I have always wanted to eat here. There is always good music and they have live music often.
I thought the food would be good and I was right. Actually it was better than I expected. There were a lot of healthy choices on the menu, the food was really tasty and not overly seasoned and I felt good after eating the food; I didn't feel weighed down and tired.
When we have friends from out of town visiting, we will be sure to bring them here!

Coyotes, Coyotes. I have a love hate relationship with you. The food? Pretty delicious, I must say. "Eat my Taco Tuesday".... yeah. But seriously, the tacos are LEGIT. Try the shrimp tacos - Do it!!! Other than that, this is the home of my favorite carne asada in North County and apparently the road kill burger is insanely good too.

The service is great and the waitresses are smokin!

It's pretty entertaining to come here on a weekday night because there's karaoke and random live music... and when I say entertaining I mean there's a man that arrives every week in a super sparkly sequin top and sings the same song every week while the cutest grandma ever is on the dance floor bustin' a move. It's entertaining.

Ok, so if you come here on a weekend night it's definitely a different scene. It's a little bit like if the mayors of 'little camp pendleton' and 'cougarville' decided to join forces and start a bar/club. Yeah, kindof like that. Me? I don't really mind, I still have a lot of fun whenever I come here. If you get tired of the high and tight and milf situation you can go outside and chill by the fire pits.

If you don't want to come here for the dancing or the karaoke, at least come here for the food. It really is fantastic. Oh yeah, the mini key lime tart pie thingy is pretty much amazing.

The best Taco Tuesday in Carlsbad! I go almost every week. Tacos are $2-3 a piece (shrimp and carnitas are my favorites). Dos Equis drafts and house margaritas are $3 each. Sit at the bar for the best service.

Some of the servers are better (or worse) than others. For whatever reason, half the time they can't seem to get my friend's order (tacos sans veggies) correct. Even so, we still go back. The tacos (and prices) are that good.

I have eaten at Coyote twice for non-Taco Tuesday meals. Both times I've ordered the Charred Scallops off the appetizer menu for my entree. As a rule, I never order the same thing twice, but the scallops -- served with warm cornbread, two sauces and a mixed green salad -- are absolutely fantastic, and just the right portion that I can't imagine liking another dish better.

Karaoke (every Monday and Tuesday, 6-10pm) is jammin' on the patio. The seating is usually pretty full (especially during the summer season), so go early or prepare to wait for others to get up. The clientele are mainly in their 40s, 50s, 60s and up, hence Coyote's nickname, "Cougar Bar."

It was a stormy Sunday eve in March.  As our party of 4 arrived we were greeted by a stressed waitress, who asked if would we like to sit in or outside.  I responded with an arrogant "uh in the rain?"  I felt like a dunce immediately and my party gave me a frown.
The chicken strips were excellent and the lobster bisque was TDF (to die for).  Would return for sure.  #reallydudereally.

P.S. Why hasn't the "Cougar Bar" check box been added to the "Ambiance" section of review, YELP?

I've been here many times, but when I went here today it was the worst experience ever! My friend (Heidi I) and I came here on the Sunday of Labor day weekend  to grab a quick appetizer and beer before getting on the coaster and going to the races. The patio was a little busy because there was music outside, inside and bar were completely empty... maybe two people in there.

We sat outside and the people watching was great, but the service was horrible. The people watching and music definitely did not make up for the horrible service we received from Lea. We sat down and ordered 2 coors lights and an appetizer steak quesadilla to share. Twenty minutes later, we still didn't even have our beers. We asked why it was taking so long and were told it was because they had to get the beers "from the back". I'm not sure where the "back" is, but it took another 10 minutes before we even got the beers. Given how long it took for the first beers, we decided to order our next ones right away. Thinking to ourselves, I hope we get our food before the second beers! The second beers came about 10 minutes later and we were still waiting for the quesadilla.

We were hungry, so we asked for chips and salsa since everyone else seemed to have some on their tables except us. Chips and salsa came, but still no quesadilla. After about an hour, I flagged down a different waitress - not Lea, because she seemed to be missing in action most of the time we were there, and asked if she could help see what the deal was with our food.

After a few minutes, Lea came and said she didn't know why the food was taking so long and that she didn't even realize that we hadn't received it yet. Maybe if she had taken the time to actually check on us, she would have realized it! At this point, we were irritated, hungry, and in a hurry to meet up with a friend who was waiting for us to go to the races, so we just asked for our bill, 30 seconds later, she was back with a bill showing our 4 beers, no food on it. I know that it takes time to remove something from a bill, so it was pretty apparent that she never even put the order in to begin with. My friend asked about this and Lea got all defensive and was acting like she had just done us a FAVOR by removing the quesadilla from the bill (which was never on there in the first place).

To add to the horrible experience, the 4 bottles of coors light were $19.40 with tax. I could have bought a 24 pack for that and had way more fun!

We ended up going through a drive through mexican place in Oceanside on the way to the coaster station, and the food there was probably way better than Coyote's ever would have been.

My girlfriend and I came in on Sunday over labor day weekend (Sandi F.) and just wanted to get an appetizer and a few beers.  Lea W. was our server.  It took forever to be greeted.  I immediately ordered our beers.  She came back like 10 minutes later saying that they "had to get more out of the back".  Coors Light?  Really?  And the place was DEAD inside, there was definitely no reason for what ended up taking 15 minutes.  Yes, the patio was full, but seriously maybe 2 tables inside.  We ordered the Steak Quesadilla.  I bet it's good, wouldn't know because.......

I asked for chips and salsa...it's a mexican restaurant and pretty much everyone else had them on the table.  We got those...still no beers.  We finally did get the beers and ordered another round when we were half done so hopefully there would be no down time.

An hour later, still no quesadilla.  We had a friend waiting for us, we were going to the track and had to catch the Coaster, so my friend flagged down another waitress to ask her if she could tell ours to come over, we dinally saw her and I told her we needed the quesadilla To Go and our check.  Lea came back in like 30 seconds with our check, just 4 beers on it.

My issue here is that when you ask for a check, and have to have a manager take something off the bill first, it takes a few minutes.  It was very clear that Lea NEVER ORDERED the quesadilla.  I asked her if she even ordered it, because it wasn't on the bill (we were still expecting it to come out in a to go box at this point) and she told us that she wasn't going to charge us for it because we never got it and she "separated it off the bill and would take care of it for us" like we were getting special treatment or something.  Having worked in restaurants before, I also know this maneuver takes a few minutes too.  She also said that she never realized we hadn't gotten it...yeah, you didn't realize it Lea because you never came to check on us and we had to tackle you to get 4 beers, and hey maybe when you dropped off the beers you could see that we had no quesadilla.

PS the 4 bottles of Coors Lite were $19.40 including tax.  What a rip off.  Watching old drink people do karaoke on the patio is nowhere near entertaining enough to pay those prices and get such horrible service.

Man, the previous reviewers weren't joking when they said this place was cougar town. I came here with my husband and a friend, we just wanted to grab a beer and chill. The table next to us was filled with older people and the couples at that table would not stop making out. Their whole table seems to be drunk and obnoxious. The guys kept motorboating their dates (I'm being completely serious!) and at one point, one of the women gave her date a lap dance in front of everyone. Security FINALLY went over to talk to them, but the couples just disappeared for about 15 minutes and came back in. Hmm, I wonder what they were doing. Gross. Every single time I come here, someone seems to be getting kicked out and are very vocal about it!

Also, if you're thirsty, be prepared to stand at the bar and wait and wait and wait. So many people crowd at the bar, it's almost impossible to get the attention of the bartenders.

I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 because the outdoors environment is actually pretty cool. You don't have to go to the bar because the waitresses will come out and get your drinks for you. They have a nice set up with the fire pits and if you're looking for a place to chill and enjoy a beer, have a seat by the fire pit. Even though it was past 10pm and you needed to pay a cover charge to go inside, we did not have to pay anything to sit on their patio.

Came here to celebrate a bday. I had been here before, but hadn't stopped into Coyote for a while. Luckily, dress code is LAX since we had just came from Barfly in LJ and I needed to wear my flip flops.

My friends were already inside and we arrived around 1130p. We come to find out there's a $5 cover charge after 10p. I noticed that about a half hour later, they removed the cover signage and people were just coming and going. WHAT THE?!

It was pure ghetto-ness. I'm not sure which is worse - Coyote or Oceanhouse. The dance floor was small and it was just too hot with the amount of people in the small area. There were a lot of "observers", which I didn't care for. I felt like a piece of meat... DIRTY!!!

My bro mentioned that it was COUGAR-LAND before I got there, so he headed out before they all began howling at the moon. I don't blame him. It appears that no one respected personal space here. Some people were dancing WAAAY out of control! UGH...

I think I'd prefer lounging outside around the firepits and listening to the live band vs. coming here for the clubbin' aspect.

Parking may be difficult to find in this center, so you may have to result to street parking. LOTS of po-pos in the area, which could be a good or bad thing - depending on what side of the law you're on.

I'll stick to my Carlsbad beaches - thank you...

If you want to meet a cougar on the prowl, then come here.  My boyfriend and I felt kind of out of place due to the age difference in the crowd.

The dance floor is small.  The music is all right.  They play all sorts of music ranging from disco to top 40.

If you want to come here, I recommend coming here before 10 PM so you do not have to pay a five-dollar cover.  Also, if you show your stamp, beer costs three dollars.  They do not have Bud on tap, only in bottles.  Ladies, keep your high heels on the dance floor because the security guards will catch you.  Be aware of broken glasses and spilled drinks.  Parking might be a pain to find.

This is my 'Go To' sit-down Mexican Restaurant in Carlsbad.  I took the family here for dinner after a long road trip from Vegas.

I had the Grande Carnitas Flauta, the Better Half had the sampler with Chicken Fingers, Nachos, Onion Rings, Southwest Rolls, and Chicken Skewer....and my Son had the Grilled Sea Bass.  The portions are huge and we all enjoyed our entrees.  The Flauta was really big but flavorful.

My only complaint about Coyote is that they cater to the Gringos.....I wish they would make their dishes more Spicy.

    Will I return?  Most definitely!

I worked in Carlsbad for several years and came to Coyote Bar and Grill 3 or 4 times for lunch only and thought the food was fine for Americanized southwest semi-Mexican food.   Always well prepared as long as you know that is what they are serving. Good service, clean and nicely decorated.

Came Saturday night to see a band play outside.  The place was hopping!  I got to meet a famous Yelper (Hi Alisa) and enjoy some friends company.  I liked the fire pits and the outdoor feel with the fresh  air (with the occasional whiff of something herbal floating on the wind).  The crowd was a nice mix of people of all ages with a few Ocean beach eccentric types mixed in to the keep the floor show interesting.

Around 10 pm the outdoor show ended and the crowd changed to a more club -like group.

I had noticed several police cars on the way in to the place and was a little surprised at the number of cars just in front of Coyote B&G.  We decided to leave at 10:30 and there were even more cars and as we walked down the street there were three policemen walking with their billy clubs in hand. I haven't seen anything like that since i was in Boston when they won the world series.

I had to wonder how much the city of Carlsbad pays to keep the patrons of C B&G under control.   Sketchy.

Like champagne, I have a love - hate relationship with the Coyote. You see, during the day I have had decent Bloody Marys, good salsa, and a very good seafood salad. But on a weekend night things seem to suck.

It used to be fun and lively until they added a DJ which ended up bringing more trouble than it was worth. No bar in Carlsbad should need a dress code or a cover charge. Once the Coyote turned this corner, it was no longer fun or cool....just stupid, ghetto, and filled with douchebags. I can deal with the Marines, I just can't deal with the dumb factor of this place.

What can say I about a place that is good on the weekdays and a disaster on weekends. A reluctant 2.5 is what I want to give, alas I can't give any halves here. I'll throw three stars.

So me and my buddy go here on a Thursday, well they have a $5 cover. I've always thought why would a place have a cover and that too $5, maybe to weed out the jerks. I am not quite sure that is working well. Anyway, we reach the door and my friend hands a $20 bill and says two. The cutie gives two wristbands and $25 back. Sweet I thought, what a way to welcome patrons. But being the good guys we are, we give her back the extra money.

Once inside, the drama begins, we saw a dude teaching a dude how to be 'the' dude. Also, met the most gullible female ever, oh yeah she is from the midwest. A guys bumps into me and says 'sorry homie', never been called that in North County. There are enough bouncers here to bounce the hardest arses.  I developed myopia with so much bad eye candy. Vons has better looking crowd than here.

To sum it up, this is a place to be forgotten on the weekends.

I am currently not allowed to drink so I might have rated it better had I been boozed up.

We came here during the Carlsbad Street Fair and found a place around the fire pit on the patio.  Our waitress was pretty attentive especially for how crowded it was.  I had to have Sharps non alcoholic beer and it pretty much pissed me off that it's the same price as the real beer.  Come on!!!!!!  Isn't there a discount for no alcohol?

This place is pretty pricey but the nachos we ordered were actually more than my husband and I could eat.  Plenty of cheese and salsa, a little skimpy on the guac but overall one of the better plate of nachos that I have ever had.

If I was able to drink I would have enjoyed the experience on the patio more.  Everyone else seemed to be having a great time especially the inebriated screaming Banshee sitting right behind me.  It's a good thing I only bought a rug at the fair because anything else I would have used as a weapon to beat the crap out of her with .  Hmmmm come to think of it I should have crammed that rug into her stupid belligerent screeching mouth.

If you are in Carlsbad, a sleepy little town known more for building blocks for 4 year olds  than nightlife, this is the "spark after dark", "the late night place to be".

Coyote is in a 2 story wood framed open air mall in the Village of Carlsbad, downtown just passed the railroad tracks on Carlsbad Village Drive.

It has southwestern food, which here loosely means a mix of Tex-Mex and burgers, or Chili's with a Coyote theme. They have a cocktail area, a couple of large screens with sports, and a large outdoor patio seating area with gas fire pits for warming against the coastal fog that rolls in at night.  The patio area is also the Karaoke area. with a spinmaster at controls and some pretty decent singers (probably regulars gearing up for American Idol number 37).

The customers are a mixture of shear-headed leathernecks looking for some fun other than in Oceanside, a few locals and tourists, and a  batch of underaged suburban girls looking for some excitement in Carlsbad with drunk and hunky "the few and the proud".

If you go early for food, snacks or a drink, seems inocuous enough to relax. Later at night or the weekends, judging by the other suburbanite haters stuck looking for excitement in  Carslbad, it is a scene you might want to avoid, since drunk Marines, underaged civilian girls, and surfer boyz mix into a potentially explosive cocktail, so they keep a tight lid on everyone.

Me, I just had a quick beer, some chips (the dip was supposed to be smokey Chipotle, but was bland with a lot of black specs). The service was fine, and the place was pretty calm, except when Chalmers of Kansas drained the game tying 3 pointer in the NCAA National Championship game with a couple of seconds left.
