worst experience ever. i cant believe we even had a server? never came around to see how we were, never came to fill up our waters... my pina colada had little alcohol in it and our drinks took FOREVER to come out, even though we were the ONLY table there at 5PM on a saturday. I have never had an experience like this.

After reading reviews of this restaurant which wereon polarends of the spectrum; I had to know where I stood. Cuernavaca was empty of patrons upon entering, though that wasn't extremely disconcernin,  as it was awfully cold. The place was clean and we were greeted by the hostess/server right away. The three offered salsas were all very good; the creamy one (finely chopped jalapeño, ranch and mayonnaise) was pretty amazing; it was the first time I' d ever experienced it. Truth be told the chips were a combination of not fresh and stale. The margaritas were a delicious mixture of salty sweetness and absolutely massive. The size matched the hype; I was told mine was as big as my head...and I have no peanut head. Unfortunately, I think it was a better suited beverage for an AA reunion because it was seemed to be a virgin beverage. After drinking the entire margarita I couldn't detect a lick of tequila. Very shortly after ordering entrees, a soup was brought to the table, which was pleasant surprise. It was a combination of a dark, but tasty stock, carrots, potoatoes...and burned elbow macaroni noodles. Well to be fair, some noodles were white, but most had a distinct black char; though odd they didn't have a crispy burned texture.I did enjoy and finish my soup. I chose the combination platter for my entree; which wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Alll contents on the plate were served a little warmer than room temperature. The meal reminded me of when I heat up leftover tacos the morning after a late night....not as savory or memorable as the night before, but gets the job done. I think I'd rather try another restaurant before returning. Overall , it good suggestion from the guy I met on Craigslist....the server was attentive and the food was decent.

Two stars only because the art work was nice and the waitress was nice. Do not eat there or drink the margarita. My friend and I split a pitcher of Margarita which filled 6 glasses. By the end neither of us could taste or feel any alcohol. It tasted like salty, sweet lime water! On top of that I got food poisoning from eating there. Do not go for food! Go for the art and maybe a beer. I'll probably never return due to the food poisoning.

Good lord I love this place. The salsas they bring with the complimentary chips are out of this world. Especially the creamy spicy one! That one is certifiable crack. I usually get their burrito dinner which is enough food to take some home for lunch. Also they don't screw around on drinks. A margarita here will get you druuuuuunk.

Sounds like I had a much better experience than others!  A group of 7 of us came in around 3pm on a Saturday - there was one other table and a few people at the bar, nobody said anything to us so we just sat down.  Our drink order was taken right away and chips brought to the table then as well.  We ordered margaritas and they came out in a HUGE glass, for about $6 or $7.  I had the frozen one, it was good but it was premixed and just had tequilla added to it....and it gave me a stomach ache later.  I can't blame the restaurant, it was just a GIANT margarita.  We ordered a handful of apps which came out pretty quickly and the food came out shortly after.  The service was quick and she was good enough, not super talkative but quick!  I got the chicken soup it was really good and enough for two meals.  A friend got a meat volcano (don't know the exact title, but it is essentially what it was), it was incredible and a lot of food!  Other friends got the tacos and enchallidas and said they were good as well.

Good food, quick service and at a reasonable price. I live just around the corner so I'll surly be coming back!

Hoo boy. I just got home from dinner at Cuernavaca and raced to my computer. I had dinner there with 4 girlfriends; five of us total (this will be important later). We came in, we were greeted, and told to sit wherever we wanted. A server came immediately to take drink orders. Halfway through she ran off to do something else, inexplicably, then came back. No big deal. We asked for waters all around, but our drinks came, and no water. 10 minutes went by, no water. We asked again. Nothing. Finally one burrito came. Still none of the guacamole we ordered, but one out of five had a burrito. We asked for more water and more silverware since we only had enough for 3 and assumed our meals were all coming soon. We finally got a small pitcher of water and 5 plastic cups, but still no more food. Sad burrito. Finally our food arrived one by one, until four of us had food. Still no guac! 5 minutes went by. Though it goes against everything my mother ever taught me, I had to start eating. My food was getting cold, and cold enchiladas aren't great. I took a few bites, getting more and more anxious by my one friend with no food. It's now a full 10 minutes since the sad burrito arrived, 4 of us have food, no steak fajitas for my last friend! I went up to the kitchen window and said we were waiting on some steak fajitas. The woman behind the counter (not our waitress) said she *thought* it was coming up next. I said "but there are 5 of us and 4 have our food, shouldn't it have already been put in?" She goes "hm, ok. Soon". I went and sat back down. Kept eating my now room temperature enchiladas. My foodless friend went to the restroom, came back, no food. So she said something. She was told it was coming. Still no gauc btw, this was annoying because 2 of my friends had tacos and planned to put it on them so they were also not eating. Finally the steak fajitas come, with a very brief and forced apology. We mentioned our guacamole order again, and asked for more water. We finally got the guacamole, some water, and everyone had food, though my fajita friend had to eat essentially alone since it was 20 minutes after we got our food.

The food was okay, but nothing spectacular. We finished eating, chatted and asked for the check. First it came with our drinks rang up twice. As a group we had 2 margaritas and a mixed drink. There were 4 margaritas and 2 drinks on the bill. We pointed it out and asked her to adjust the bill. I kid you not this took 20 minutes. She took our check back, took some new orders, made a few drinks, served some people, chatted with another employee, and then maybe took a break. Our bill finally comes with the correct drink order. HOWEVER, she noted in the system we were a party of 6, and therefore gratuity was included. I have never not tipped. Crappy service is usually not intentional, apologies are made, and it's often at a restaurant that's so busy and so good, you don't really mind. We got no apologies, service was atrocious, and they charged us for my friends 20 minutes later fajitas! I was not interested in tipping, and certainly didn't appreciate her sneaky way to get a FORCED tip when we were a group of 5. We deducted the tip from the total, and explained to the server why we did it. She was unmoved.

I will definitely never be back. Seriously, it's Mexican food, there are a ton of great places! Definitely find one that seems to care about your business.

My mom and I found this place walking down 18th and since my mom is from Cuernavaca, Morelos we thought lets go check it out.... sadly and disappointing as this place was, my mom was upset because the food had no flavor what so ever, the chips were over salted and the horchata looked like chocolate milk and it didn't taste like it suppose to, it tasted like Cinnamon water... the only good thing was when we got our check was the sweet bunelo we got... sadly this was the worst Mexican food I've ever had...

Don't let the tired out looks of the exterior deter you from going to this place.  The inside looks great, the food is inexpensive, hearty and really tasty, and the people are really helpful and happy to see you.  This is real Mexican food, btw, not the chain restaurant crap.

Went here after the auto show because the BBQ place down the street was closed, and will be back.  I'll bet this place is great in the summertime.

I've lived in Pilsen my whole life a few blocks away from here, but it always looked closed. When I got married my hubby and I decided to venture in on a Saturday night. It was pretty empty, all you saw were some men sitting at the bar and judging how chummy they were with the waitress I think they were regulars. We ordered the ceviche and some other stuff that was seriously not memorable. The ceviche on the other hand was super yummy! There was only one waitress that night but judging by the crowd it was appropriate.

So we rant and rave about the place to my family and decide to take them there. That's where the 2 stars come in. We hardly saw the waitress. She took our order and that was it. A busser brought us our food and that was the last we saw of anyone. She spent the entire time talking to some people at the bar. We finally got her attention and asked for more chips (they never came). We tried to get her attention to pay the bill and even then she ignored us. We were in good company within our group that we didn't realize that we were there a half an hour waiting for the waitress until we decided to bail. We went to the register and paid for our meal. Needless to say the waitress did not receive a tip. I hope she got a big one from those people at the bar because they were the only ones getting service.

If you want tasty ceviche but do not mind being ignored, this is the place for you. If you're like me where service and taste has to go hand in hand, don't waste your time or money.

Two stars is generous. I had the caldo de res and it was horrible.  The salsa was even worse. The meat in the caldo de res was obviously not fresh and actually tasted rotten. The salsa was no where near fresh which also had a rotten taste. The women who serviced me was friendly and  The chips were not bad.  But I will never go back. Nor would I recommend this place. Im from pilsen so i know the good eats but his was my first time back here in years. Tottally suxed. Instead go a few blocks west to Nuevo Leon or even across the way to Perez.  At Nuevo Leon you can even BYOB.
I would give it a break if only one of the things i got were bad but both items......?!?! no way Jose. Thumbs Down!!!! Arriba Dude.

God, these reviewers are lame... blah blah blah- I don't care about your boring night and I don't need the blow-by-blow.. just tell me if this place was good or not and why.

this place is fantastic!  I ordered chicken mole and the chicken was so tender and totally worth the wait.  The mole sauce is one of the best in Chicago.  Service wasn't the best but then again, I wasn't expecting white table cloth service as some of these reviewers obviously do.  I appreciate family- run businesses especially those owned by hard working immigrants.  Been to both Perez (across the street) and Cuernavaca and this place wins.  Hope you eat there.  bye.

I took a short little vacation earlier in the year.  My good friend whom is from Chicago took me to a few good eats spots.  He is the best.  Anyhow I tried the Micholada and nachos there and it was definitely different than what I'm used to but it was delicious.  I'm will be back next time I'm in Chi town!!

    Hands down, this place rocks!

Went to visit one of close friends down in Pilsen and it was one of those "lets try a new Mexican place, because we are in Pilsen and you really can't go wrong!" days. My beau and I ordered the enchiladas, him rojo and me verde, they were both heavenly and the plate was a huge portion.

I definitely recommend this place. Next time I am getting a margarita, I heard they were large and in charge!!!

    Far from acceptable.

Came here with my boyfriend and we decided to try something new & be adventurous since we just moved into the area.

Only thing that was good here was the salsa for the chips and my horchata.

The food came, 20 minutes after finishing our chips, and was bland. My boyfriend Got the tortas, but he said he has had better. The rice...I've never had Mexican rice like that, not even in Mexico! I got the taco dinner and they were just bland. I went to put salt on them and found a bug on the salt shaker! By then I had enough and just wanted to get out of there...

Oh, and a 90 degree day, sitting in a restaurant without air is not fun.

Next time I'd rather go further to get some good Mexican food.

So, I had the [kind of] unique chance to visit both Cuernavaca and Perez Restaurant on the same day.  Overkill? Maybe.  Tasty? At least 50%.

Let me do a blow by blow for you.

First, I walked down the alley towards the restaurant.  I didn't need to drive although there is a convenient, albeit small parking lot in front of the restaurant.  There is also plenty of street parking.  And the #18 bus.

I got to the door and decided that since I had the chicken tacos at Perez, literally directly across the street, why not have them here?  I was gonna play chicken...harharharhar *wipes tears*

I gambled with the wrong tacos.

I thought everything was going to go okay when I ordered a margarita for $5.  Then I got the margarita; it was the size of my head, and, well, I have a big head.  Then, I thought, "Hmmm, there is not a lot of liquor in here.  I should ask for more."  So I did.  And the woman just poured it in and told me to say when...*reminisces about Cordoba, Spain* I said, "When."  It was too late.  It was too much cheap tequila, but I take all of the blame for that.  I did have a problem with the bill.  Apparently, the $5 margaritas are not the ones on the rocks.  I think they are the blended margs, but that was not apparent.

The server gave me some chips, but I think they were recycled.  They were stale and not tasty; the basket had pre-salsa in it....you know what I mean...

But I got my tacos and headed home.  I skipped the alley and headed for the street.  I got to my humble abode.  Since I was super-excited for my chicken fight, I dug in.

Hmmm...not impressed.  But then again, I was doing a taste comparison from hours before.  The chicken tacos were, eh.  The rice and beans were pretty good.  If I had my druthers, and as it turns out, I rarely do, I would get my chicken tacos from Perez, my beans and rice from Cuernavaca, and the size of the marg from Cuernavaca with the marg ingredients from Perez.

I stumbled upon this gem in Pilsen on one of our typical let's drive to 18th street and eat somewhere we never have before adventures. Upon entering this extremely spacious, clean, and somewhat modern feeling, yet homestyle Mexican restaurant known as Cuernavaca, we were kindly greeted with a big "Hola" and offered any table in the restaurant. Wood crafted chairs and tables are plentiful alongside a fully stocked bar and amble supply of TV's serving up plenty of Mexican and US soccer on tap.

The rich leather-bound menus speak of rustic times (see also walls adorned with wild game skulls) and are filled with delightful traditional, home-cooked authentic specialties. I suggest the Cuernavaca beef or any of the other house specialties involving beef or pork. The ranchera is as authentic as it comes, not overly spiced up, just simple tomato and vegetable based sauce over a well marinated juicy strip of steak the way it was made years ago - Simple yet succulent flavor that has worked for hundreds of years. The beans and rice are also worth smearing atop a warm corn tortilla, unlike many of the other local area dining venues.

Perhaps the biggest surprise comes at the beginning of the meal, with the chips and three delicious choices for dipping. A sweet creamy, tangy, thin white sauce with a cooling sensation was served alongside a very high quality tomatillo salsa verde and a mentionable smoky red salsa. I doused just about all of my meal in the verde and chomped my fill of the chips with all three. The white sauce was a great unique addition to the standard chips and salsa.

When in Cuernavaca: maybe bring a designated driver!  Why = The $5 margaritas are as big as your head and not just made of crushed ice. These salty sweet frozen treats are a crazy deal. Only downside is they are frozen only, no rocks.

I will definitely be back for more delicious authentic meals at Cuernavaca. Added benefit: You could easily bring a large to very large group here comfortably for any big sporting event. This may be a new go-to for Bear's games on Sunday.

My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner here and the Parilladas (Mexican family style platter) were a hit! Linda and her father do a great job running this Pilsen spot and they really rolled out the red carpet for us (in addition to serving margheritas by the pitcher, they also offered us AV help using their DVD player and big screen TV for our slide show!).

This is a great place for a couple to go split an entree- we recently split the burrito dinner (9 bucks for TWO burritos!).  The burritos are traditional size and flavors- not ridiculous sized "burritos as big as your head" - not that there's anything wrong with that but they usually taste bad and come with a side of drunken college kids.   I will say that if you have a standard american appetite, just get your own entree (still a great deal).  My wife and I just like to share and we eat up all our chips and sides as to avoid being wasteful.

In summary, I definitely recommend trying this family run place.. have them put on the sox game (or a mexican league soccer game!), order a 5 dollar jumbo margheritas or a $.3.50 modelo.. and just pick whatever looks good on the menu... they will treat you well and you wont get ripped off like so many other Chicago resteraunts are happy to do just b/c we live in Chicago.. screw that, I'll go support a family business like Cuernavaca, who charges fair prices and serves great food.

oh, the smokey red salsa is awesome...

$5 margaritas, and decent Mexican food. A good place for a happy hour with some friends or a meal.
I ordered steak tacos and they were excellent. I got three on a plate for $7 so not too bad. My friend ordered chicken enchiladas and they looked and smelled amazing, and she said they were good. So the food is decent.
The margarita was gigantic, almost a whole meal in itself, and while I prefer mine to be a little more frozen (it was a little melty around the edges) it was only $5. The margarita was also not a "home-made" style, definitely made from a mix, but I am ok with that occasionally.

Pros: margaritas are massive! food is pretty good and not expensive, 3 kinds of salsa (and you can order queso (melted of course)), large space so you can have a lot of people in your group

Cons: chips were a little too hard for me (not just crispy, hard), the margarita was so big, even with three tacos I was completely stuffed afterward.

Overall a pretty decent place for a happy hour, but I wouldn't trek all the way down to Pilsen just for it. Of course.. if you live there this wouldn't be a bad place to check out!

Not good at all.  Do not be deceived by the authentic, rustic charm of this place.  The food is evidently premade.  I been there three times and each time I was disappointed.  On one ocassion, I order their sope dinner with an orange juice and what I got was dismal at best.  The sopes were freezer burnt and the oj was sunny delight.  The staff is nice and the bar is just like any other mexican bar, slinging margaritas and cheap cuervo drinks.  I don't recommend this to anyone.  If you want fresh mexican food, just walk down the street for more options.

We came here on Friday night and the place was pretty deserted.  The food wasn't amazing, but our waitress was super cute (and generally competent) and it was super cheap.

They start you out with a generous helping of chips and three types of salsa, all with lots of kick and flavor.  I love chips.

I got the combination plate with all chicken, and it was pretty good.  They were out of tamales, so they subbed a quesadilla which was not a great substitute.  Otherwise, my taco and tostada were pretty good.  My boyfriend got what can be described as the meat platter, per the suggestion of our waitress.  He said the chicken was amazing but the shrimp was a little over cooked.

The best part?  Margies were $5, meal was $8.50.  I didn't know these prices existed within city limits.  Cuernavaca, I salute you.

My friends and I were trying to seek out a restaurant that boasted "goats head tacos." They were closed but Cuernavaca was open.

I was amazed and shocked by the cheap drink prices within the city limits of Chicago -- $5 for a ginormous could've-been-boozier margarita? Si, por favor! Beers were also reasonably priced as well.  (~$3.50-$5)

I ended up getting the vegetarian combination platter which was okay -- not a good choice on my end for something flavorful, but the salsas helped. (red, green, and yellow -- the yellow was the best, no idea what was in it.)  Everyone else enjoyed their food for the most part.

Parking is a major bonus for those of you who don't live in Pilsen and don't like 40 minute bus rides.

So in sum, not a destination in itself, but if you're currently waking on 18th Street looking for Mexican food because the pork taco place and the goat's head taco place is closed -- you will have a decent meal here.

I stopped by this restaurant Saturday morning July 3, after the pilsen fire that happened that morning with 3 other individuals.

I was starving.  I tried the steak and eggs - and I have to say that, it was the most horrible thing I have ever tried.  I hated it, the only thing possible to eat was the rice, which was still bland.  After pointing out the problem to the waitress, meat was not fresh, and beans were not favorful.  All she said was " If I wanted it "To-Go" " hell no, I didn't wanted it to go.  And I told her to tell the chef/cook whoever.

    Never coming back here again.

We have been cruising by this spot for quite sometime and only yesterday evening had a chance to drop in and get some grub.  The space is wide open and the staff is very inviting, they have a few tables outside under a patio.  I really dig the parking lot in front.

The menu is pretty simple with limited options.  All of the traditional staples are there and they seemed to have a few interesting seafood options.  I thought their red salsa was awesome.  The verde was just average at best.

The portions are f*cking huge.  Let me say that again, the portions are f*cking huge.  We got a starter of some sort that was pretty tasty and we ended sharing a dinner.  We couldn't eat everything and didn't really even come close.

The Steak Cuernevaca was pretty tasty and came with rice, beans, quesadilla, enchilada, grilled veggies and crema and guacamole.  The steak was cooked perfectly and everything else was tasty as well.

I just peeked at their bar but it looked like they had at least 50+ tequilas on the menu.

Restaurant quality for taco stand prices.

I came here for lunch today with my guy. Pretty big in there.

Waitress was nice and attentive. We asked for the chips to be heated and they were good. The red salsa was spicy and the green salsa was more mild. I thought it had a hint of sweetness to it.

Soup reminded me of tomato soup/chicken noodle soup.

I ordered the steak taco platter which came with 3 tacos, rice and beans. It had big chunks of steak in them, but it lacked flavor. Rice was eh. I don't eat beans so I don't know.

My guy got the steak and egg, but I don't know how it was since I didn't try it. He finished it though.....so I guess that's something.

It wasn't bad, but I don't think I would come here again. There's just a lot more better options out there.

    Mission: take-out.

    2 chicken burritos (medium sized)
    Refried beans (messy and delicious)
Spanish rice (dry, but mixed with messy beans=nice)
    Diet Coke (of course)
    Chips (crispy, hot)
2 kinds of salsa (verde, red)
    Box it.
    Bag it.
    $15 (with 25 percent tip).

    Presto, I'm full...and not poor!

My first experience eating/drinking in Pilsen.  Margaritas were not outstanding but they were HUGE.  There is stuff you can order that's not on the menu (Tacos Al Pastor, good call, Stacie) and thank goodness, because the plastic-covered picture menu can be less than appealing.

The best thing about Cuernavaca? It has a bar, and as I am learning, liquor licenses seem to be a rare commodity in this part of town.

Not only does this place have a bar- it's a large bar and the bartender pours a pretty solid margarita. Two stars right there.

We were here on a recent Monday night and pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. Another plus is that the place is large so if you've got a big group, they can easily accommodate it.

The food was okay, nothing really notable other than the sheer hugeness of the burrito plate. We could have easily just split the one plate. The fajitas, while good, were not as tasty as some I had down the street at a different restaurant in the neighborhood. I like more accompaniments (guacamole, lettuce, cheese, etc) with my fajitas and you only get beans and rice to go along with the meat mixture here.

The service was good but that may have been because there were really no other customers in the place. Parking is pretty easy on this stretch of 18th but just in case, Cuernavaca has it's own parking lot (another bonus).

Lots of places to get Mexican food in this neighborhood. But if you are looking for a decent margarita to go with that food- Cuernavaca could be just that place.

Pretty bad. Margarita that tasted like gatorade. Mealy tomatoes and nasty tasteless guacamole. Third time here. First time was pretty good, sitting at the bar as the owner made the drinks. This time the mix was straight from the cleaning supplies. Breakfast looks ok on the menu but the pictures of the dinners made me lose my appetite. Will not return.

Ceviche was tasty, I'll admit... that's why its two stars.

i'm pretty sure i'm not ever going to eat at cuernavaca again unless 1) i wear a bullet-proof body suit 2) feeling invincible from a meth binge or 3) i've hit rock bottom, and i no longer value my life.

this past saturday, i was dining on the patio around 7:30pm, enjoying the nice weather, drinking a modelo and anticipating my two soft pork taco's arrival.  unfortunately, instead of getting my tacos, i got several bullets shot in my general direction and a group of people sprinting for cover in the restaurant's alley.  the only reason why i didn't get hit by these stray bullets was because there was a nice white car parked directly infront of me and blocked the bullets with its gas tank...that's right, gas tank!  the only reason why it didn't explode...well, i don't have an answer for that....i guess pure luck!

the humor to all of this, was our waitress and her kind voice asking, "could you please come in now?  they're shooting people."  i heard after life-threatening events, your food tastes better...this was not the case with my soft tacos...at least not good enough for me to want to stick around and eat my second taco.

10:30 pm on a tuesday night, a girl gets hungry.  at the front counter sit two men and one woman.  there is also a waitress and a one person cooking staff.  waitstaff to customers, one to one ratio.  their attention is on the soccer game on tv.

i ask about closing time.  the waitress looks at one of the men, he waves his hands 'no problem, sit down'.  there is one other table, at the end of their meal with doggie bags on the table, just chatting.

we can have any other table in the house.  we consider the table for two under the tree, but wonder if the big leaves will get in our way.  we choose a table near the window.

tomatillo salsa and red salsa and chips.  how i judge how good the food is: do i want to make it at home.  HELL yes i want to make both these salsas at home so i can eat it everyday!  my highest ranking salsa sits at LA PASADITA (the one on the southwest side of the trio).  yes these are different salsas from la pasadita's salsa negro, but they are just as good.   mmm.

i got the burrito plate ($9):
two burritos filled with cilantro, onions, avocado and beans (no cheese, no sour cream--they didn't forget)
refried beans and RICE.  (i love rice)
    spaghetti soup--t'was good

    beer 2.50

the waitress kept coming over to see if i wanted more drinks instead of trying to encourage us to leave!  i felt so peaceful, eating, drinking, and being merry.

This place never changes.  The food is good, the margaritas overly sweet but reasonably alcoholic, and there's something very cozy about sitting in the window next to the parking lot looking out on 18th Street.  The decor is cheerful and the whole place is a mood elevator.  Service is attentive enough and very friendly.

Before or afterwards check out the important, historic and extremely dramatic murals at Caza Aztlan a block or so down the street on Racine. (With luck, the lady with the half a dozen huge, gorgeous, well cared for cats hanging out on the front porch still lives a couple of doors down from it, too.)

I live across the street from this place (next to Perez) and have been here a few times. I recently went with my girlfriend and we actually sat down for dinner.

The waitress (the only one there) took way to much time getting our drinks and taking our order. She persisted in this un-timely behavior over the course of our meal.

The food, though. Awesome. We have enchiladas mole & roja. I had the horchata. It was excellent. Not at all gritty, like it can end up at some places. Except, perhaps, a little over-sweet....but I like it that way.

The chips tasted funny at first but then we couldn't stop eating them.

Two stars for the parking lot and the strange upside down chair on the ceiling. Otherwise, I'll take a pass. Go here and then go to Perez across the street. It's like night and day, people, night and day.

Cuernavaca rocks as far as I'm concerned.  The burrito dinner can serve two people.  The chips are the best I've had in Chicago.  The margaritas could use some work, but the beer selection is quality and horchata is tasty.

The same family that owns Cuernavaca also owns El Barco Mariscos and the food at El Barco is significantly better than what you'll find at Cuernavaca.  The price of the food is another story.

Sam S. is right to comment on the twilight zone feel you get upon entering this place, because no one is ever in here.  I've probably been eight times and more often than not my party has been either the only or the only other group of patrons.

Still the shit is good and if you don't live in Pilsen, going here is a nice excuse to go down there.

I really enjoy coming to this restaurant.  They have the BEST deep fried snapper with garlic and onion!  Get it with a Paloma (grapefruit soda and tequila drink) and make your own fish tacos - you will not be sorry.  The rest of the menu is good but we come here solely for the snapper. Service is excellent - mostly family members - and if you befriend the owner, he'll have you join him for a shot of his favorite tequila!

Excellent Mexican!  We had dinner there last Sunday night after returning from a trip downstate.  We only had the quesadillas and this huge nacho platter.  Both were excellent and very authentic.

We will be returning for more Cuernavaca pronto, but this time we will have a full meal.  I hesitate to award four stars because we only had appetizers.

ES COMO UN PARTIDO EN MI BOCA!

I thought about giving Cuernavaca 4 stars instead of five but only because of the lack of updated jukebox selection!

Our lunch here was spectacular!  Went for a co-worker's birthday.  Party of six.  Orders ranged from Steak & Eggs to the (2) Burrito plate, enchiladas en mole and steak tacos.  The salsa is super spicy goodness and the ranchero sauce was out of this world.  Each plato was served y grilled jalepeno also!!!

The place is pretty huge, I'm thinking of suggesting it for a yelp dinner.    When you walk in, there's a huge pushcart full of gorgeous tropical leafy potted plants giving you a bigger "en mexico" feeling - more than the rainbow colored garb that so many mexcian places have played out.

Our lunch for six including horchatas and iceteas and cokes was $50 on the nose. We left her $60 and headed back to the office.

Cant wait to hit this one again, and again, and again, and again!  (OH YEA - Parking lot is located right infront of the restaurant.  Maybe 6 or 8 spots total.)
