Went there on a Friday night 6:30 we were the only ones in the place, even until we left at 7:45.
Had the beef and shrimp bar b que. Meat was tasty but shrimp needed more taste or at least more sauce. For two people  the side dishes didn't come close to previous pictures in reviews.
Spent 50.00 on meal, I had better, so most likely will not go back again.

This used to be my favorite restaurant for beef besides Chima, that is, until ownership and menu changed.  It's still good, but not special.  Neat place to try something different if you've not had Korean BBQ before.  The galbi (short ribs) is good, and my friends gave the mackerel very high marks.  I also enjoyed the grilled marinated chicken.  Also try Gabose restaurant for comparison.

I think they changed chefs. It was okay this time and the prices seem higher. Banchan not as great as before...

Went with friends, we're really big K-Drama fans, and became interested in Korean culture, and food. This was our first time eating Korean food, and it was reallllly good. The individuals who worked there were pleasant, and indulged us practing the little we knew through dramas andx asking how do you say this, and that. (we're convinced we will learn the language through dramas). The food was great, the service was great, we
will definitely be going back often, it's really affordable. Next on our list of K-Drama things to do...find a karooke bar...

We were actually trying to go to Minji's Cafe to to fulfill our Korean munchies cravings.  Unfortunately they were closed but I was really craving for some ddukbokki and Da Mee Rak was in the same plaza. We went in, the place is very nice and clean. And unfortunately again Da Mee Rak didn't sell ddukbokki (which I hope they will consider to add to their menu in the future!). So I ordered some kimbap and Jap Chae instead for take out. The waiter (or perhaps he was the owner himself) was extremely nice and courteous. I would definitely love to come back on another day to dine in for a special occasion (as it is quite pricey).

I sauntered into Da Mee Rak and quickly noticed I was the lone gunman aiming my sights at their menu. As I scanned it for targets a group of uncharacteristically boisterous Asians burst through the front door. There were so many I had a flashback of a gambling/feeding frenzy I'd witnessed at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino craps table. You thought that game was just for 40-tippin', bleezy smoking thugs from South Central..WRONG..Koreans run dem 7s and 11s. After a bunch of apologetic bowing the host pointed toward the NE corner of the plaza. More on that later, right now let's get to my experience.

Usually I don't eat alone like I'm Steven Glansberg...

    <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D_ZjH4wnzwk4&s=5b974b515d8449128ecf5cea440da279632591e116cbd97ddc1cbd2ecc3386ab" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>

...but my windows were getting tinted nearby and I had some time to kill. Here's how I did it --

Banchan - more like 'blandchan'. I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'd only eat these complimentary veggie apps if I needed more fiber in my diet AND there was a global shortage of Fiber-One bars.

Dubu Buchim - pan fried tofu was lacking the crispy outer layer I'm accustomed to but the accompanying seasoned soy sauce was bo$$.

Daegu Chigae - seafood stew in a deadly spicy broth. Daegu means cod and that fish was well represented. In fact I had to keep checking my mouth for fishhooks because my soup shared two characteristics with the 'chumsicle' that makes frequent appearances on shark week --

    1. previously frozen
    2. full of fish carcasses

There were so many racquetball-sized pieces of fish I could've sworn they were trying to get rid of it. Plus I felt like I was going through some aboriginal initiation ceremony because I was getting repeatedly stabbed around the face and mouth with fishbones. I don't expect to find that many in a soup, and I consider it laziness on the part of the kitchen staff. The broth, mussels and shrimp were all on point though.

Gyeran Jjim - I said put-an-egg-on-it and they listened --

    <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ifc.com%2Fportlandia%2Fvideos%2Fportlandia-put-a-bird-on-it&s=1e08938eb66828afb66f55befe4a93ca09e047f7e34b30c08580b0f8bf42fb65" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.ifc.com/portl…</a>

An egg is just a delicious unfertilized bird. Mix a yolk with beef's fibrous 'tendoncies' and they'll be best bros. So what do you do with all the left over whites that don't belong in Bibimbap (meaty fried rice) or Yukhoe (steak tartar)? It's whipped into an omelet with scallions in a hot pot filled with beef broth. Fluffy, savory, and best of all...compliments of the chef.

Korean BBQ - They excel at this, but I feel like that's like saying you're really good at drawing circles with a math compass. Do-it-yourself BBQ restaurants have been around since Genghis Khan was shooting arrows from horseback; it's not that hard to do well.

After packing up my substantial leftovers, I draw my phone to use my $5 for $10 Yelp Deal. The server that's even more mild-mannered than Prince after a deep-tissue massage, a cup of chamomile tea, and a xanax let out a loud gasp. I watched him scurry around the restaurant asking everyone deal? or no deal?. After he called the owner I was told, no deal! Apparently in the time that I purchased my gift certificate and redeemed it, DMR had changed hands.

There are ten Korean restaurants in Broward, the majority are peppered around the area where Lauderhill, Plantation and Sunrise meet. It's closest we'll ever get to NY or SF's Korea-town but DMR is perfectly acceptable if you're getting anything that walks. I'd steer clear of anything that swims. Rony Mō and the gabby gamblers can agree on that and they didn't even risk a meal there. Your best bet is to hit-up Minji's in the NE corner of the same plaza.

Let me begin by saying that I am a Korean living in New York City and visit Ft. Lauderdale frequently.  For the past several years, I have been going to Da Mee Rak.  I have always enjoyed their food and felt that their prices are fair for the area, with better prices than Gabose (last time I checked).

Anyway, a couple weeks ago my friend and I went to check out Da Mee Rak.  It's been a while since the last time I ate there, and I immediately noticed the new paint job and change in decor.  Upon being seated, we learned that the menu has changed, and that the restaurant was now has a new chef and is under new ownership.  I was kind of disappointed to learn of these changes because I always thought there was nothing wrong before...  However, this change is definitely for the better!

We ordered the kalbi and bulgogi...  And to say the least, the quality of the food, including the banchan, has tremendously improved (and remember, their food was pretty good to begin with)!  I can honestly say that the quality of these dishes + banchan rivals the best Korean restaurants that you would find in New York and San Francisco.  You can definitely tell that the chef has put their "heart" into the food.  The effort and quality really shows as the flavors and textures were perfectly balanced, which is not easy to achieve in Korean cuisine.

I know there are a lot of people who will proclaim Gabose and the other place in Weston (sorry, can't remember its name) to be better places to eat.  However, I can honestly say that after my recent experience at Da Mee Rak, Gabose and the Weston place are mediocre at best.

If you have never been to Da Mee Rak, or haven't been in a while, you need to check it out.  Again, speaking for the kalbi, bulgogi & banchan, it is the best I've ever had in Florida and is on the same playing level of my favorite Korean restaurants in New York and San Francisco.  Notice that I'm talking about the quality of the banchan, too, which is something that most people will not mention because it's typically insignificant.  But at Da Mee Rak, it is significant and worth mentioning!

I went here on a whim- I was craving Korean BBQ- that might  sound odd, but I was. I wanted to cook some Korean specialty over a hot burning personal stove. When I saw a yelp deal- I jumped on it. However, Da Mee Rak was just not great, the "BBQ" was a tin foil, small stove that cooked extremely slowly and poorly. The side dishes ranged from eatable to bad. The servers were very nice but everything else there was subpar. I wouldn't return here.

This is actually a double update. We came back on 2/10/2012, a Friday night around 7 or so. There were maybe 3 other tables seated, none at the grills, and we opted for a regular table too. After being seated, it took the waitress 5 minutes just to bring us water and menus. We sat there for 15-20 minutes before we could finally flag the waiter down to place an order. He apologized and said he asked the waitress if she took our order and she said she did (then why were the menus still on our table?)

Finally got our order in, and in the meantime another table had been seated at a grill. Took another 5 minutes just to get my father his beer, by that time the grill table had food where we didn't even have our appetizer (raw beef, didn't even require cooking!). Finally after 1/2 a beer and 10 more minutes, we got up and informed the waiter to cancel our order, paid for the beer, and left.

Now for tonight's experience. We had promised a friend Korean BBQ and were still impressed with our first visit, so we gave them a 3rd chance. Before being seated, we told the waiter about the last time and he said he remembered and was extremely sorry and would make sure we were taken care of. He was about 75% on point, had to ask for a few things, but I swear the poor guy runs the place, he never stops moving for a second, so I give him  much credit.

As for the food, it was all delicious. They were unfortunately out of 3 of the things we were really looking forward to: beef tongue, beef intestine and lamb. He explained that the lamb was being removed from the menu, and the intestine may be as well due to the prep time, and the tongue was just our bad luck they had run out that day. We still ordered the kalbi short ribs (delicious and tender but still chewy), pork belly (nice and firm, not too fatty) and spicy pork (tender, crispy, delicious).

We did the seafood pancake appetizer which lacked a bit in substance but had a good enough flavor. Also had the raw beef appetizer that we missed out on last time - worth it! Nice light marinade on the beef and the accompanying sliced pears were a cool crunchy contrast.

The various banchan were almost all worth eating - didn't care for the salted cucumbers, omelet, or tofu cakes, but the tuna salad, bean sprouts, and pickled veggie wraps were delicious. So was the chopped lettuce salad.

Service was better, but it still took us a good 2 hours to get in and out and it definitely slowed down when 2 big tables seated in the other area. Still, it's consistently good food, and a fun experience with friends, so worth the time and money. Bill came out to just a hair over $100 which considering we had 3 meat dishes, 2 appetizers, and 2 beers on our order, not too bad and we were definitely full!

I wish I could give zero star but I can't..... this is NOT so real Seoul as they said. I ordered three meats combo and they bring me with cooked meats...(not so korean tradition) and there was only one server for entire place.....he does everything. We had to wait so long to get something........and most sadest thing was thr rice was burnt.....u can def smell & taste it.....if u can't cook rice right.....idk if this is consider asian restaruant.

I had a hankering for some Korean BBQ, so my husband and I decided we were going to try Da Mee Rak after reading all of the positive reviews.  We took our 3rd old and 1yr old, and drove 40 minutes...for NOTHING!
We waited half an hour just to be seated (mind you, the place was empty!), and then waited 20 more minutes to be ignored further.  Our order had never even been taken!  Even after my husband repeatedly asked for service, not one person came to our table.  (It seemed like there was only ONE server on staff.)  Our children began getting restless and hungry when we noticed that another couple sitting at the next table, who had sat before us, still had not received any service yet either.  We decided that enough is enough and we left.  I honestly don't know how that place is still in business?!  Don't waste your time like we did!

Went here for Korean BBQ recently and ordered Galbi and Bulgogi to grill.  Both were tender (NOT chewy ^_^) but the Galbi was the favored of the two due to it being more flavorful.  Galbi was cut Korean style rather than California style with the 3 short ribs.   Price seemed a bit high considering you only get two strips of beef ribs.  Quality compares favorably to many Korean BBQ joints, but not to D.C./NYC/L.A., etc.  If I didn't compare Da Mee Rak's BBQ to those cities, I'd give it a 4...Cheaper prices would've made it a 4.5.  Side dishes (ban-chan) were excellent as was the service.  Soon-dubu (soft tofu soup) was quite good.  Happy eating!

As an aside, Shikhe (rice punch) comes in a can and not fresh which is an egregious error for any Korean restaurant.  But hey, maybe the good folks in FL just don't care for it.

The restaurant is under new management and it wasn't good before so I was interested to try what new items they might have. Since my friend and I were hungry and she wanted Korean BBQ. We chose a place close by. The service was mediocre and the food was below average. The price for the amount of food was not worth a party of two. The quality of the food felt like it was sitting in the kitchen for a long time as well. We went on a Friday and the place was dead.

This used to be my favorite place, and when I read the poster at the Korean Oriental Mart that it's now under new management, I look forward to my next visit with excited anticipation.

Sadly, the menu is drastically cut down, and gone are several of my favorites.  Stephen is attentive as usual, but the food doesn't taste as good as before.  Even the BBQ and lettuce salad are blander.

This used to be a 4 star favorite of mine, now it's only a 3.  Food is not awful, just that with lots of Korean restaurants in the neighborhood, this one just doesn't stand out.

Like the Korean peninsula, I'm divided about this place. Been here a couple of times. With results more mixed than Daniel Henney...OMG, Daniel Henney I LOVE YOU and those adorable cheekbones of yours, and your shoulders and... sorry I got lost for a second there, just give me a moment to compose myself...

Stephan the server is amazing. Very attentive and made great recommendations for new things to try if you're looking to graduate beyond the Kimchee Chiggae, Dolsat Bimimbap and Dok Bokki learners permit stage. However when this place is slammed I've experienced service spread thinner than a RomCom Kdrama plot, even when I was sitting right next to the kitchen pick-up window.

The panchon here is possibly more plentiful than leggy beautiful Korean girls on stage at a Girls Generation concert. I know, hard to believe right? Ah Gee baby, ah gee gee gee...I wasn't thrilled with their fish cakes. I'm suspecting an angry ahjooma had a black pepper tantrum in the kitchen. Hopefully it was a one off time. Everything else is excellent and their Kimchee is the best in town IMO.

UPDATE: There's a new noodle Chef here as of last week. If you're secretly Chinese, can be delivered by motorcycle and black bean sauce is your little black dress with neon yellow radish as your "go-to" accessory,... you need to bring your a$$ here and have a show down in a Korean restaurant town, because there's a new Jajangmyeon in town and its kicking some serious butt. With a slight bounce in it's chew, the hand rolled noodles are more perfectly cooked than Goo Jun Pyo's famous F4 permanent.

I ordered a seafood vegetable noodle soup filled with the same tasty noodles. Unfortunately said bowl was infiltrated with evil spy agents from the North trying to ruin Kpop, KDramas, the Samsung chaebol and everything else quintessentially South Korean! Evil came in the form of seafood that had maybe not been removed from the ocean in 2011. I was more upset than when I found out Rain was joining the army...bad shrimp, octopus and questionable scallops. Then again perhaps a piece or two was bad and queefed their less than fresh selves all over the rest of my beautiful bowl. I'm not sure. Seemed to be a hit or miss with decent and totally non decent pieces. I know, I kept eating it! You're shocked, appalled and full of questions. The noodles, OMG the noodles...super epic, deliciousness that's all I can say!

Fortunately the bad is followed by the good, most of the food here is excellent. Haemul Panjeon is a must. Galbi and samgyupsal at the BBQ table are always excellent don't forget to request sangchu(lettuce) to make a toasty meat parcel. Especially desirable when you need to shove a bundle "one bite", Korean style, into your boyfriend's mouth when he starts getting too lippy. "Oh I'm sorry what was that Chageeah(sweatheart)? I couldn't hear you with all of that delicious pork belly in your mouth!! WIDE INNOCENT SMILE :D

On a last note. The bathrooom had less supplies than the Red Army in the winter, at the end of a very, very, long winter march. No paper towels, no hand dryer, no soap, VERY little toilet paper. All in all, bring a bottle of hand sand and get ready to eat some of the best handmade noodles you've maybe ever had. Te Hamingo!

My parents wanted to try some Korean  food after watching  the kimchi chronicles.
Stefan our server and the little Korean  girl that cooked was friendly, knowledgable, on all the side dishes. If you order 4 or more dishes you get a big discount which is a plus for big groups, I will return and this will be a popular spot. Very clean and reasonable and come hungry!! The BBQ is addicting.

We went here for lunch yesterday. I got jampong, which is a spicy seafood noodle soup. The rest of us got the bento meals. The bentos had your choice of spicy pork, chicken, or beef. It came with your choice of spicy tofu soup, korean miso soup, or beef brisket soup before the bento was served. Then in your bento you had chap jae, salad, your choice of fried or sticky rice, potstickers, and some sliced cucumber in addition to whatever meat you chose. Very filling and tasty. My soup was good, they didn't skimp on the seafood, but it wasn't the most flavorful jampong I have had. The waiter was very nice and attentive. We also got a free soda with our meal and after our meal we got a free slushy type drink to cleanse our palate. I would love to go there for dinner as the lunch menu was a bit limited.

Very happy we found this place.  I was in the mood to try something new and decided Korean BBQ was the way to go- since both of us never had it.  It was so good and so fun.  We ordered the spare ribs (mild Galbee I think it was) and some beef dish.  It comes with a lot of salads to start, which are all yummy.

We also ordered dumplings as an appetizer because we didn't know food came with starter salads and they were awesome! You can tell they were fresh and hand made- and really delicious.

In terms of decor- it looked like a typical Asian restaurant.  You have the option of Korean BBQ or regular Korean food- which is a different part of the restaurant.  The korean bbq seating gives you some privacy which is nice.

Overall- GREAT food and fun experience.  The location isn't great, but worth the trip.

After having only been back from Korea for 2 weeks, and not finding any in my area, I was craving Korean food. Luckily I found this place on Yelp. My family and I went to Da Mee Rak on April 16, 2011. We were greeted by Stephan who was very professional, helpful, and friendly. It was not too busy as we arrived an hour before closing time.

We ended up getting Mandu for an app, an order of galbi, an order of bulgogi, and denjeonjigae. We were served quickly. It was the first time my family was having Korean food and loved it. I don't eat meat, so I was only able to enjoy the mandu and soup, but they were both delicious. The soup made me feel like I was back in Korea.

The prices were definitely not what I was used to paying for Korean food ---  it was MUCH cheaper back there and with bigger portions, but it was well worth it!

I am so so glad I found this place, I really love Korean BBQ and I use to have it when traveling to West Coast or NY, but havent found (until now) a really good place, well look no more this is it, the menu is vast and my review is based only on bbq since you can sit at a non bbq table and order traditional soups or other things.  We ordered the traditional bulgogi and galbi, and oh men, they were amazing, my only complain with this place is that they only have one waiter and although he was very good it was not enough for the place even though it was late and almost empty, the other detail was that I had to request for more ban-chan (side dishes) several times instead of having new coming.  At the end they offered us a free smoothie as dessert, nice!

I really, really recommend this place if you are into Korean BBQ.

Went back again yesterday, around 5:30p. We were the only ones in the restaurant, and the service was perfect and fast.

    Food was still good.

There still wasn't any cold sake, though they did say they would charge us $10 for a bottle opening fee if we brought our own sake.

Definitely like this place and seems a bit cheaper than Gabose.

It is an excellent place for local korean bbq restaurant. i was there recently for my birthday and i think this place is awesome!

We sat at the BBQ table and ordered 2 traditional korean dish. I had a Silken Tofu Seafood Kimchee Soup that was EXCELLENT, and we also got a rice dish with runny egg on top that is served with beef in a very hot "stone" bowl.

As for BBQ we got medium spicy "Galbee." It was SOOOOOOOO good. We also got beef tongue, and this beef (i forgot the name) and also octopus. The octopus wasnt a big hit because it was a bit chewy for some people.

Overall it was a great experience I loved it there!

P.S. Do not wear anything that is not machine washable since you will smell like bbq afterwards.

I have tried different Korean restaurants in South Florida.  I will say Da Mee Rak is my favorite.  It's pretty far from where I live, but it's worth it.

My friends and I have been loyal customers for at least 4 years.  We might have gone less now since I used to eat there too much - so we might've overdone it.  My good friend and I have always ordered the same dishes because we are just in love with them.

I will try to spell it correctly -

Yuki - raw beef **definitely not a dish everyone can try.  If you can eat raw beef, I highly recommend it.

Kimchi Seafood pancake - it's just so good!!!

Fried dumplings w/ vegetable - they are tasty!  The vegetable is actually kimchi based.

Short Ribs & Pork ribs for grilling.  That's one thing I do want to stress - there's an actual grill for people to do indoor grilling.  If you have never tried Korean BBQ, you are definitely in for a treat.

The customer service is always fantastic.  I do miss the old group that used to work there because they were just awesome.  The pricing is fair for the amount of good food you get, so don't expect it to be 'cheap cheap'.

Thumbs up for Da Mee Rak!

I was happy to find a Korean restaurant in south FL.  The food is ok but over priced.  The spicy fish soup didnt have fresh fish in it.  it was a frozen fish steak that was tough and dry.  The Galbi was pretty good but the portions are small.  Maybe because i'm from NY, i have higher standards for korean food but since there arent many koreans in S. FL, this will have to do.

This is Southern Florida's best (or only) bet for Korean BBQ. Luckily for South Floridians, this place is safe. The menu is rather extensive, and they serve more than just BBQ.

For the sake of this review and because I couldn't eat everything on the menu, this is all about the BBQ. Beef kalbi and chicken kalbi is bursting with fresh flavor and it's not over poweringly sweet. Banchan (Korean side dishes) were fresh and delicious. The service was extremely exceptional. Our waiter didn't seem to stray far away from our table and made it so we did the least amount of work required in Korean BBQ dining. (Note to those unfamiliar with Korean BBQ: It's mostly DIY with a built in grill in your table.)

Be sure to go crazy in the karaoke room after dinner. If you have dinner and use the room, the alcohol is discounted!

I really, really wanted to like this place, especially given the extensive menu.  But I really think they sacrifice quality by trying to appease too many palates.  They would be better served by doing a few things and doing those things well (a la Myung Ga Tofu & BBQ in Doral).

We tried the soondubu which was pretty watery and although there was a lot of tofu, it was mostly broken up.  (A sign of good soondubu is larger intact chunks of tofu).  The taste was fine, but nothing spectacular.  The kalbi was cut way too thick and was much sweeter than it should be served.  The kal gooksu tasted generic and was really just mediocre.  The banchan, like the food, was mostly average.

We did not grill at the table (which they offer), so that might be their strong suit.  However, as much as I hate to say it, their food really is just average at best.  If you're in the Miami area and want soondubu or BBQ, check out Myung Ga, it's closer and much better overall.

I can see how the servers need a little help.  They barely understood enough to take my order.  Why 5 stars then?  Well, because the menu is the most extensive Korean I've seen in South Florida.  So many soups or broths, including the less common stuff like the boiled chicken for vitality.   BBQ (with fan) and casseroles for two.  Fried fish...lots of choices, good choices for noodles.  even some stuff I wasn't sure about.

tried the soondobu jigae (seafood) asked for very spicy--Korean spicy :)
and gul jun (oyster omelet), served already cut with plentiful oysters, tasty eggs and nice sauce.
the soondobu, lots of tofu, watery side, heavily spiced.
6 panchan -- nice eggplant and tiny fish with string beans
entree prices $15 and up (huge portions), soondubu $9
given the other review, maybe they don't do everything well.
good thing there was no bad karaoke when I was there.

also had the kalbi (cooked by the kitchen)
the flavor was excellent (i like it sweet) -- could have cut the meat better (across the bone), pieces were a little too thick
bean paste tofu soup (miso flavor)
    massive japchae
