My boyfriend and I read an article in the OC Register about the healthy food at Daphne's. We decided to try it New Years day and ordered the salmon, chicken kabob, and gyros. We took it home to watch football. My salmon was fried in oil and so over cooked it crunched when I bit into it. The fire roasted veggies where tasteless and soggy, the tabouli had a weird tangy taste, which leads me to believe it should have been thrown out days ago. My boyfriend made a burrito with his gyro meat and street tacos with his chicken kabob. The rice pilaf that came with his meal was the only decent tasting item ordered too bad they only gave him two teaspoons. I feel like we just threw away $22, oh but wait , we did.
Review Source:Awesome! Their flatbread pizzas are very good and I dont feel like I am putting 1000's of calories into my body as most of the pizzas are under 500 calories. Their Lemon Chicken Soup is very good as well. They are my new place to go eat at now. :)
Service is also very good. Sweet, friendly and hard workers. The manager is always on site and checking on people when I go in too!
So this places seems to get some negative buzz but I'm not sure why. I recently moved here and perhaps there have been some changes in management recently because the service has been friendly and manager is available every time I visit the store.
I love the street pitas, both the chicken and the gyros are delicious. The greek salad and the tabouli are also wonderful. The lemon chicken soup is okay, although it could use more chicken! Â Their iced tea is also great.
I like visiting this place because the food is fresh and light. Their online ordering system is also very useful.
We were a little concerned, because when we arrived at about 8 PM, the place was completely empty, and they were sweeping up. Â However, they were still open, and within about 15 minutes the place was packed again. Â Ebb and flow...
The person that took our order (I think he was the manager) was extremely helpful, and he took lots of time explaining the menu, the specials, and made some recommendations.
We had the lemon-chicken soup, and it was outstanding. Â I would also recommend the pita chips with hummous, and the tzatziki sauce. Â What wasn't so great were the tabouli and the falafel, which was a shame, because I was really craving a good falafel wrap. Â I don't know if it was the lateness of the evening, or what, but I think it had been cooked earlier and reheated for us.
Stick with the soup and some of the other appetizers, and you'll be fine.
Been there twice, ate only once. Â
First time, the counter person totally ignored us while he talked on the telephone, so we left without ordering after waiting several minutes. Â
Second time, a different but indifferent person took our orders with apparent boredom and the food, which was brought to our table by a friendlier person, was mediocre and fairly tasteless, with only a hint of Greekness.
I've got to update, I was a little harsh and unfair to Daphne's last time. It's pretty much what it claims to be. It's clean, and it's going to deliver what's on a typical Daphne's menu in a reasonable amount of time.
Big parking center and easy freeway access (like 3 lights east on Avenida Pico off the 5), make this place A-OK.
Hey - it's fast food, but it's good. Â I've noticed the quality has declined a bit in the years since they opened - like using an olive tampenade instead of whole kalamata olives now, but I know it's a chain.
This is my go to restaurant when I want a salad with some protein and I don't want to wait forever. Â My best friend and I probably go every other week.
Best kept secret: their soup - lemony without being overpowering
Second best kept secret: they'll put rice pilaf on your salad for free
Favorite: Any of their Greek salads but especially the shrimp and the steak
Kids favorite: their fresh pita bread and steak kabobs
Fast, pleasant service. Â Excellent catering (did a teacher luncheon).
Warning: there is a new kabob place in town next to Pier One - the food is more authentic and it's family owned - my loyalty may be tested, or I may just eat more Greek - we'll see if my opinion changes after a trip to Athens next month!
