One of the first few times I came here a patron smashed a pint glass off his own face. Â At that moment I knew I had found my new go-to bar to watch the Bruins after Murphy's in NQ closed.
Pros
-Prices
-Bartenders are awesome
-Lots of parking
-Plenty of TVs, no matter where you sit you can watch the game
Cons
-On more than one occasion when at a table it has been hard to find a waitress to pay or get a refill and end up having to go to the bar.
-Food is just OK, depends what you get. Â Pizzas are very greasy and burgers are always made medium-well in my experience. Â Most everything else on the menu is pretty good.
The key to a good bar is the bartender. Billy has been here for about 20 years, he knows what you drink, & is a great bartender. The foods good & consistent. This is a local friendly bar & they've got all the games on the TVs. Most people are pretty quiet & keep to themselves, one newer guy has been loud, obnoxious, & has been forward with the girls. Luckily, the bartender has seen it & told him to leave people alone. The guy's still there but we're hoping management will take swift action.
Review Source:What a welcomed surprise! Â Came here last night with my two daughters and Uncle Richard. All food was great. Beer was cheap, plentiful and cold. Thoroughly enjoyed their version of French onion soup. Outstanding Caesar salad pizza!! Â Will be back when I don't any to deal with the hassle and prices of Boston restaurants.
Review Source:Tried this place out for the first time on 12/1/12. Â Definitely felt like my type of bar. Low key, and quiet. Unfortunately the bartender was a complete bum. My wife and I walked in and sat at a table. We were ignored for about 5 minutes till we thought maybe there wasn't any table service. So, we sat at the bar for at least another 10 minutes and was ignored by this bum of a bartender. He was more concerned with flicking through the channels, looking for something on tv. The place wasn't remotely busy and he knew we walked in. Guy just had a "don't give a shit attitude". When we decided to get up and walk out, I commented his shitty service. He just shrugged his shoulders and continued playing with the tv. Your loss though. Â I'm a big drinker, and tipper.
Review Source:This place has been here for years. Its a local place with a lot of character. This little pub was responsible for the restaurant above it. It also was responsible for the place across the street.
The food is good, its filled with lots of locals. If you are new to the area a good place to connect. All ages are represented here.
Good food, cold beer. As good at it gets
A bad Irish pub in Iowa is forgivable, but in Quincy Massachusetts? Decent place, nice waitstaff (when they show up) and friendly patrons. The food? Almost insulting. This was some of the worst pub food I've had in the Boston area. Go here to drink, cry or sleep, but not to eat.
I'm not sure the cook has ever seen or tasted an actual Shepherd's Pie, but he probably once drove drive past a Duchess Meat Pie laying on the side of the road. The "Shepherd's Pie" here was a dish filled with (good) beef chunks, a few bits of potato and 4 kernels of corn, all slathered with a strange white toupee of bland potato mash.
As disappointing as that was, I felt downright deceived when the Fish and Chips arrived. The menu described it as "Harp battered scrod, Darcy's slaw and old bay tartar sauce". Our hearts sank when we learned that the latter is apparently just a euphemism for "2 packets of Heinz tartar sauce". The fish itself was thick, but dry and the appeared to be freshly shaken from a box of breaded industrial fish slabs. I'm quite sure it wouldn't know Harp if it was drowned in a vat of it.
The service was poor, too. After sitting around for 10 minutes without a hello (and only 2-3 occupied tables in the area) we waved our hands and after a few nods someone finally came by and deigned to take our order. She dropped off the food and that was the last we saw of anyone until we resumed the frantic waving to get some extra condiments. And later, a final round of waving to beg for a check. But I'm not docking points for that... Everyone has an off night or a busy side room, or whatever, and I'm sure regulars have a better time.
Here's the nice thing about Darcy's: I'm pretty sure nobody there will care if I write a bad review or don't come back. It was filled with lots of cheery townies knocking back Budweiser and watching the Bruins. They were happy to be there, and I'll leave them to it.
[Addendum: It wasn't until I logged into Yelp to write this that I remembered this is the Darcy's made famous in song. If I'd remembered that, I'd have skipped this as a dinner option.]
Dark, cramped and almost dingy interior with a friendly waitress - or at least that's the impression I got last night.
Stopped in with J and a couple friends to grab a quick bite to eat before heading out to celebrate another friend's birthday..and we weren't disappointed in the least! The boys had a couple different sandwiches, a plain pizza (which was yummy) and steak tips (which were also delish). I had the kids mac and cheese, which is a tiny portion, but it was great since I wasn't super hungry.
Total damage? Right around $60 for 5 meals and 2 rounds of drinks. Not bad!
Sure its not a true Irish bar and the food is average pub fare but Darcy's is a mighty fine place to drink away your night. Â Its dark, friendly, and the beers are cheap. Â I got an import in a tall 23 oz glass for $3.75. Â That is freaking awesome. Â I also got the Darcy Burger with sweet potato fries for $8. Â Burger was cooked well but not that flavorful. Â The sweet potato fries were great - crunchy and tasty. Â Not bad but you'd be better off going somewhere else to eat and making this your drinking hole. Â Good atmosphere whether you're there to chat or watch a game.
Review Source:The DropKick Murphy's anthem, "The Dirty Glass," doesn't lie -- "Darcy, Darcy darling dear" -- Yes, Darcy's you are... Â
There's no better place in Quincy where "everybody knows your name." Â Darcy's just installed a new bar, tables and HD TV's. Â There's no better place to have a beer, watch a game, or be a retired Gloucester fisherman.
Notable bartenders are Billy Damon and John McDonough -- two class acts who love wearing the green.
Darcy's is now leaving the definition of dive bar... unfortunately everything looks good until you go to the dreaded men's room.. it's still the pit and disgusting, some people actually go outside and relieve themselves... its amazing that the owner was able to do these huge renovations and not be required by code to update the bathroom... it's doubtful there were any permits filed for this work because they never had any posted. They spent tons of money on an outside patio with a stone wall, they put in a new bar and a whole new mahogany looking wall with paneling. They ripped out the booths(huge bummer), except for a corner one and brought in high top tables which are not meant to be sat at for long periods of time since the stools have no backs... last night the place stunk like wet paint so our group split and went to the Fours. It looks like they are trying to go upscale and be more of a sports bar.. but something is missing... and sometimes good things shouldn't be changed... time will tell with this place... I can only hope that at least clean up that bathroom with new fixtures and hose down the whole thing with Lysol...
Review Source:Darcy's is a neighborhood place. It's tiny and cramped inside, but i like it that way. The same old dudes are in there every night (and probably every morning) on the same stools. A couple tv's. Tall Budweiser pours. Decent cheeseburgers. You can get wrecked and fed and wrecked again in here for less than $50 i expect.
As a dive bar, Darcy's excels. If you are expecting any more than that you will likely be disappointed.
Darcy's isn't a gourmet place, but they certainly understand 21st century customer service. After my previous experience, a manager contacted me through Yelp and apologized, and sent me a gift certificate in the mail. I went back and had a much better meal - a solid burger and a beer - and that's really what you go there to eat. My friend had the backed scrod and liked it, too. And, the dingy irish pub feel and friendlt waitresses grow on you quickly.
Review Source:Fine pub food -- excellent meat loaf and mashed potatoes. The beer on tap is good, cold, relatively inexpensive and comes in three sizes up to 23 ounces. The place is incredibly dark, however, and the seats are a bit rickety. When we went, we went with a large party and somehow they forgot about my wife's order, but the waitress got it made fast.
Review Source:Tiny, Irish, Dank and Friendly! I love it! Chicken Tender Sandwich is by far the best think on the menu and Kentucky Meltaway Pie is the ultimate desert.
The restaurant is separate from the bar so it's great for families and sketchy old men! They also have take out which is awesome because there are about 14 tables in the whole restaurant.
A great irish hangout for small groups!
