Wow! Is all I can say. I have no idea who waited on me (friendly blonde woman) but it was the best service I've had in a long time! This place is small. I loved the atmosphere though. It was worth the crowd. The drinks are good and pretty strong. They have a nice drink menu and everything we ordered was yummy. I suggest the specialty drink (pina colada mixed with something?). I only wish we stayed there all night. I didn't pay real close attention the the beer list, but I noticed a nice selection there as well.
Review Source:Stumbled upon this little place while my husband and I were downtown St. Charles. Â What a find!!!! Â Stopped in for a drink after dinner and were instantly hooked. Â The owner Dawn stopped by our table to say hi. She is very personable and went out of her way to greet the patrons. Â Great liittle place. Â Didn't have a tropical drink but will do so next time!!!! Quant little place that is well worth a visit!!!!
Review Source:I was in town for a conference and stopped here for a drink after dinner. It was cold and snowing outside, but inside the bar the atmosphere was absolutely warm and cozy. Dawn's goal of providing a temporary escape via a beachy Floridian atmosphere is a success. The drinks are delicious and pretty cheap. Between my husband and I we sampled the Monkey, Lava Flow, Mudslide, and the Hurricane. The Monkey was our favorite, but with ice cream, chocolate, banana, and rum how could you go wrong?
The service is great. I'm making the assumption that we were served by Dawn herself. She takes the time to chat up the patrons and make sure everything is more than ok.
I don't often write out-of-town reviews, but as city dweller, I was completely impressed and left with wanting more!
I love that this place exists in STC! Â in the midst of all the frat-boy style bars and sports bars, you have this wonderful slice of tropical heaven.
My wife and I had a child-free night out and we had this on our radar for some time. Â It is small, very small but Dawn is the owner and namesake and she's the one slinging the drinks.
It's nice to go somewhere where the bartender talks to you and honestly is engaged in what you're saying versus either trying to hit on the next girl/guy who steps up or who is getting pulled into the service well to take care of waitstaff.
It's refreshing and we'll definitely be back with friends.
I was suprised that a place like Dawns exist in STC. Â I had driven by it so many time and finally decided to visit. Â My friends and I were in the mood to celebrate so our one friends said we had to go to Dawns.
We all got a frozen drink from the back of the menu. Â It was awesome! Â I loved mine. Â It tasted like a chocolate banana milk shake.
The only thing that keeps Dawns from getting 5 stars from me is the lack of food/not very good food on the menu. Â All we wanted was fries but they didn't have that and it was too late for a Portillos run. Â So we had to go without the fries.
Dawn's Beach Hut, the cubicle-sized watering hole hidden along 3rd street, is one of my favorite places to hang out with friends. The kitschy tropical decor brings me back to my 6th grade Florida vacation which is great because I'm a poor college student and can't afford a fancy trip any time soon. Dawn makes it her mission to make you comfortable for the short time you're at her bar, from the slightly elevated temperature (to go with the beach theme, of course) as well as being extremely generous when serving her delicious drinks (two words: free shots). This place probably only seats a maximum of 15 people which gives it the cozy, home-like feeling that I love and is also why I prefer it over the boisterous neighboring establishments. On a Friday night, you'll most likely find me sitting alongside the front window sipping on a random fruity drink Dawn whipped up. Check it out, I'm sure you'll thank me later (preferably in the form of liquor).
Review Source:Popped in recently for a beverage and was pleasantly surprised.
Extensive "island" drink menu but limited food choices. What food was on the menu seemed fine for bar fare.
The place doesn't start hopping until later in the night. On weeknights there is parking in the municipal lot 1/2 block away; finding a space is sometimes difficult on the weekends.
If you like strawberries- try the "Volcano" (drink)... very tasty indeed.
Question: Why doesn't Dawn wear a Hawaiian Shirt?
Okay we live in Chicago were we all need a break from the weather and this is the place to cure yourself with a remedy. Â Sometimes they have steel drums but alway playing island music inside and even when you first walk up. Â A verity of tropical drinks. Â Small place but it makes it feel as if your on vacation at a Beach Hut near a bar. Â Dawn the owner (obviously) is cool too. Â She runs the place, makes the drinks, cards people and will even make the appetizers too. Â Get a frozen Mojito there great during the summer but always good all year.
